Lumia 820 - Problems and suggestions

Hi there, I hope someone in charge of OS modifications is checking this out.
I am really satisfied with 820's hardware, but software lacks a bit refinement.
So, let's start
1.
Croatian keyboard is messed up.
I attached a screenshot of how it looks on iOS and on 820.
Character next to "P" and two characters next to "L" don't need to be there. Characters "Č, Ć, Š, Đ, Ž" are specific for my language and they can be accessed when basic characters are pressed for longer time. Basically, there is no need for those characters to be there.
2.
Back, Windows and Search soft keys stay lit when I watch videos in the dark. I know the backlight is connected to the ambient sensor, but I think there should be a manual option inside one of the menus. Most people would agree that watching a video in the dark is a pain because those three keys glow all the time. It's also battery consuming.
3.
Bring back the torch! I switched to 820 from E72 where you long pressed the spacebar and the LED lights on the back turned on. I know there is an app for that, but I would like to see it built in. Maybe a gesture or a slide from lockscreen or just a small bulb on a lockscreen you can press to turn it on.
Speaking of gestures and slides while on lockscreen. Why not enable configuring different behaviors when slid in specific direction?
4.
Text copying works mostly within built in apps, but seems like 3rd party apps are not that lucky. I haven't tried many apps, but when I tried copying a text from a Facebook message within Facebook app (Microsoft's), it didn't work. Everything there behaves like an image. You can look at everything, but can't copy different parts.
This is probably related to the app developer (Microsoft) but it would be nice to see better integration in future.
5.
Where are Rugged shells (CC-3040) and why does their price differ so much? I looked for them on Amazon.com and there is only yellow one (33$) there. Amazon.de has yellow (19€), orange (30€) and green (17€) one. Where are black and white ones??
I know some of these are not directly Nokia related but as a Microsoft's partner in WP8, I think you can say something to make them improve the OS.

Improve the camera...
Touch focus does not work. Instead of just focusing, it shoots immediately. Light metering works only for the whole scene but not the part of the scene we want.
For example, I went to see Eddie Izzard the other day. Tried to take few pics of him on the stage. The stage was properly exposed, but his face was overexposed.
Make the touch focus only focus on the place we want, not take the picture. We have the shutter for that. This way we cannot influence the composition and I'm sure we would all like to.
Tried to use one of the voice recording apps, and ended up furios. They stop recording when the screen locks. Convenient...
Voice recording app should be integrated into the OS (I am not talking about audio notes in One Note) so we could make a tile and put it on the start screen.

Nokia Lumia 820 extras and info fails to update

Hi
Lumia 820 has updated to 8.1 and the extras and info app has tried to update but fails and says tap for info then try again. Ive cancelled the update but it just pops up again. I cant delete or uninstall it either. Must have tried dozens of times through wifi and data connection . Plugged into charge and by battery.
Getting really frustrating now
Any ideas?

Nokia lumia 820 camera and flash not working

Hi, i have my phone for five months,and a couple of days ago my camera stoped working..it is not broken,there isnt any physical problem with it.the buttons are frozen and grey and the screen is black. I had a hard reset a couple of times,doesnt help. I went to a phone service,they dont now whats wrong.. Please help me if you had a similar problem!!

Noted problems and suggestions related to Nokia 55...

Ok...after using Nokia 5530 with updated firmware 11 for 2 weeks or so, I've come across following problems:
1. Once the phone restarted suddenly and after restart it's showing a blank email bar at home screen and it's not going away no matter what settings or reinstallation of software I tried...it's really annoying empty bar in the middle of your home screen.
2. Whenever I use USB cable for data transfer, then afterwards at the time of receiving SMS there comes an error which prompts to use phone memory to store SMS.
3. I installed a free theme - Street Fever from Nokia OVI store and then uninstalled it...after that whenever I turn the phone to landscape or backwards, the screen fades rather slowly instead of quickly changing the view.
4. Internet browser abruptly closes down every now and then...I think due to memory bottlenecks.
5. Finally...the old problem with Nokia smart phones....it occasionally restarts itself for no apparent reasons.
I think first two problems really need to be fixed...perhaps by next firmware....oh yes I almost forgot...there was another problem from the beginning i.e. the youtube doesn't work...whenever I click on a video it keeps showing 'Loading 0%' forever...so I installed youtube player from google website...the quality is really poor...I want to see youtube videos of ipod touch quality on my Nokia 5530...so please please...whoever listening...fix 'em for otherwise an excellent mobile set...
A suggestion for OVI Suite...there should be a 'lossless' option above the 'best' while converting videos on drag and drop...I really hate the downgraded quality of videos even at the selection of 'best' option.

i have been using my nokia 5530 for 2 weeks now. these are the problem with my unit.
they claim to play mp4 files. but so far i havent played any mp4 files except the one that comes preinstalled in my phone. initially i thought that the player cannot run large mp4 files. since what i installed initially is a movie. so i tried installing smaller ones. still my 5530 player cant seem to play it. mp4 is suppose to be standard right?
another problem ive encountered with my unit. is that when your phone has been in a deadspot for quite some time. when you move back to a place where the signal is good. the nokia 5530 stays dead. (meaning still no signal from the provider). i have another phone a motorola unit with the same provider. my motorola automatically picks up the signal and immediately displays the signal bar.
about you tube. right. quality is real bad. so bad. that most of the display are digitized.
Also. battery life is so short for me. for someone who runs the wifi alot, plays music, text and call a lot. can i use the 5800 battery on my phone? could anybody answer this. if not, is there any available compatible battery with a longer life out there?
its not hard to love this phone. i just hope they could resolve many of the issues we user are experiencing.

Problems and suggestions for N5901 Mini Wireless Keyboard.

I really like the mini keyboard I use on my mini-PC as a set top box for Windows 7 Media Center applications on my TV but I have some problems with it and have a few suggestions if they are going to update or design a replacement for it.
1. PROBLEM: The Question Mark "?" which is labeled in orange on the "K" key but when you use Fn + K sometimes gives the forward slash "/" character.
2. PROBLEM: On the top row of regular keys below the media keys where the numbers are, the characters on the upper part of each of the keys is shown in orange, indicated they are accessed using the "Fn" button but they aren't they are accessed using the "Shift" key. SUGGESTIONS: Change the color to either white or a different color, possibly blue and also change the color for "Shift" to the same color.
3. PROBLEM: No real standard Fx (F1 to F12) keys. SUGGESTION: Since the problem listed in item 2 doesn't use the Fn key, label (in orange) and use the same row for Fn + 1 through Fn + 0 as F1 to F10, Fn + - (minus) as F11 and Fn + = (equal sign) as F12.
4: PROBLEM: No Home, End, Page Up and Page Down keys. SUGGESTION: Label (in orange) and use Fn + Left Arrow for Home, Fn + Right Arrow for End, Fn + Up Arrow for Page Up and Fn + Down Arrow for Page Down.

it is IntelliType pro, it is generic driver and it's work with N9501 keyboard. You choose any keyboard on the list and the media bouton work exept the volume...

Power wire connection problems and suggestions.

Greetings, I have noticed that the power wire that connects into an iPad plate is week, within couple month it reaps apart because of the way it is connected to the grabbing body of the plugin, I had to buy extra plug to connect my iPad, i guess that maybe this was reported from the other users of the product, I attaching the drawing of the plug.

Please help!! problem with rebooting lumia 820

I only got my Lumia 820 yesterday and it was fine then today the camera stopped working, i tried taking the battery out, and putting it back in then switching it back on - still no luck. Then i went on the nokia website and looked up the troubleshooting advice where it advised a reboot. I tried the reboot, seemed to be going fine but now it wont switch on properly!! when it gets to the switching back on part of the reboot it vibrates then the nokia logo comes up on the screen but stays like that and nothing else happens!! please help, really dont know what to do!
p.s i stay an hour away from the nearest phone shop otherwise i'd have popped in when it was just the camera not working!

If you tried the advice from guide return it back to point of purchase and get it exchanged.

Bit of touch screen not working Lumia 820

Hello!
A couple of months ago I bought a Nokia Lumia 820. And after a while I broke the digitizer. Got a new one and replaced it myself. The problem now is that the digitizer now does not work properly, a bit of it doesnt work, the second line on a keyboard when the phone is positioned upward. I have read somewhere that this could mean a faulty digitizer, but the thing is when I use the nokia search button on the lower rigth corner of the phone that activates the bing search the whole screen works fine and I can even input the pin code.
So my question is this can this be a software problem rather than hardware, because I really dont want to buy a new digitizer and then realize that the new one wont work either. Or could I have made an error when I was replacing the digitizer.

It's a hardware issue, either a faulty digitizer or you damaged something when fitting it.

Lumia 820 mono sound on headphones!

I got my new Lumia 820 today, and when I tried listening to music using headset the sound was mono, and only came out from the right headphone. The problem isn't in the headphones, since I tried both the Nokia ones that came with the phone and others. They all work just fine on my iPod. Has anybody had the same problem? Any suggestions? I couldn't find settings concerning wether the sound is mono or stereo.

If your using any apple product the sound was never right cause they simply do not work correctly,ensure the headphones are fully inserted.

Lumia 820 moving battery

Hello all. I got my Lumia 820 last wedesday. when I use the device I can feel the battery moving inside. This is really annoying. I went back to retailer who opened a new unit and to our surprise the same problem is there. Eventhough the device is working fine so far but I am really disappointed with this battery issue which does not affect the operation of the device but it is really a let down.
I went to the nokia care center when one of the employees suggested to put a sticker on the battery in order to hold it still. I was furious with his answer and told him that I did not buy a brand new phone to put a sticker to hold the battery from moving. Then he went inside and spoke to his supervisor and his reply was shocking "my supervisor told me that a moving battery inside the device is a NORMAL thing"
I really disapointed and unhappy with the phone and care center, and I regret buying it

Hi, my experience agrees with the original poster.
We unboxed a brand new Lumia 820 yesterday and the battery is definitely loose.You can actually hear it clunking around inside the chassis.
You do not need to shake it hard: imagine picking up a box of matches and wanting to know if there are any inside: give it a little shake back and forward. That's all you need to feel the clunking quite clearly. It feels badly engineered, or like someone has installed a cheapo replacement battery which doesn't quite fit.

I'd guess this is because they needed to leave some room for the optional wireless charging stuff, but I'm just guessing. If that's the reason, then it's not an excuse. If the recommended fix is for customers to insert some kind of sticker to stop the rattling on a brand new device, then I'm really qute disappointed. I would expect better build quality from Nokia.

Czech QWERTY keyboard for Lumia 820

Hi,
I am a new Lumia 820 user and I am using Czech language in the keyboard settings, but I need to have QWERTY keyborad instead of QWERTZ, which is preconfigured as a standard layout in this language option. Is there any possibility to switch Y/Z on the keyobard, while still having Czech language set? Thanks in adavance.
(BTW: In nomal Windows OS, you can choose keyboard layout between Czech or Czech-QWERTY)

I'm afraid this is the only option currently available. Windows Phone 8 is not Windows 8, so we shouldn't expect the same functionality. Maybe in a later update the option might become available, you can always suggest it to Microsoft HERE

Hp smart web printing does not work on firefox. HP says this is not their problem and to contact Mozilla. Is there a plug in available?

I just bought a new hp printer. the software has a feature called HP web smart printing. The feature works on explorer but not on Firefox. HP says this is not their problem and suggested I contact Mozilla. Is an add on available and if not will one be made available.
I am using v. 3.6.13. and the printer is HP Officejet 4500.

HP smart web printing is an application that only works with IE. In spite of what HP have told you, if they want their application to work with Firefox they will need to make a version for Firefox. It is not down to Mozilla to make a version of the HP software for Firefox.

NFC - Disconnecting problem on Lumia 820 and Lumia...

First, we have 2 Lumia 925 and 3 Lumia 820 all on Amber and latest updates. and having problems with connecting by tapping the phones with NFC tagged headsets which are:
Nokia Essence BH-610
Nokia Bh-221
Nokia Purity Pro Bh-940
and also JBL Powerup and JBL Playup.................
Every time when tapping the above headsets or whatever with the Lumia phones mention above I have to retapp the the phone so they reconnect and bluettoth start to be activated.
This has been going on for a while now and it is frustrating to use NFC which is far better implemented on my 808 Pureview which never fails this easy task..to connect and stay connected...without the hazzle...mentioned..
There are also other audio and sound problems which have stopped our progress for going further with Lumia phones here and actually reconsider ...
The gasply Tunein reconnecting and restarting playing after pausing and not hearing incoming sms and phone when connected to a bluetooth enabled NFC headset (if not the headset is on the head (purity pro) or in the ear (BH-610) at the time the incoming sms or email arrives of course)
There are more examples and I can clearly see in this forum that Microsoft and Nokia dont have it all figured out considering there are a lot threads about sound, volume and that kind of problem related things.
And this thing about not being able to have different audio levels for music, calls or whatever...come on...gosh.

Same problem on Lumia 620, connecting by tapping to NFC-enabled headset like Nokia Essence BH-610.....disconnects almost directly and then tap again, connecting and firmly connected after that.
Well, also worth mention not to be ok is that when disconnecting the headset by tapping the phone is that bluetooth doesnt switch of automatically. "On real" smart phones like Nokia 701, 700 and 808 Pureview bluetooth then disconnect.
Time consuming all this.....not to mention all the hazzle when on the run...
An example the other day after listening to Tunein radio, coming to a meeting and pushing pause and disconnectyed the3 headset.....a minute after that the Yunein-radio starting to play loud and clear through the phones loudspeaker....emabarrasing to say the least.
Not reliable at all....lives on it´s own terms, not mine....

Lumia 820 and sync with PC

Ok had major issues with Lumia 820 which I got yesterday, as I wanted to upload my contacts and ringtones and music to the phone, now reading the guide I thought this would be so straight forward, insert the USB cable and bingo should sync straight away, well the fun begins.
Inserted said cable and found phone but that was it came up in explorer but couldn't see anything, well after trolling all the web sites and saying you need Net framework, Zune, this software that software, and after doing all these things still no go, so tried a different laptop with W7 and installing some more software still had same problem, so now thinking it must be the phone.
Removed battery, done hard reset (thanks Nokia for loosing my photos) still nothing, then removed Sim card still no go, then removed the the SD card and BINGO the phone would sync.
So it would seem if you have a SD card inserted then the phone won't sync this as wasted hours of my time just to get this to work.
Put the SD card back into my old HTC and that would sync ok.
Perhaps Nokia would like to comment.

Sorry to hear of this. First off, this is a user to user support platform so if you want to address this with Nokia I suggest you contact your local Nokia Care.
Losing your photos honestly is not Nokias fault in any way. You have the option to have them synced to the SkyDrive attached to your MicroSoft Account and they might even be there.
Whether or not this is an issue with the phone or maybe the SD card (what make/type?) is another matter, but as this would seem to be an isolated incident I would not be to quick to blame Nokia for this.
And your Lumia 820 will not require Zune at all, You need to have Windows XP SP3 or later installed for MTP to be available which is what is used to make the phone available in Explorer. No additional software required.
