Lumia 820 Storage Issues

My 820 refuses to clear 1.6GB of temporary files and says that there's 2.7 GB of music and pictures on it, yet I have moved all my media to the 16GB card and when checking on the PC, it says that there are no files there. I'm running low on phone storage and I'm having to delete apps in order to download new apps.
I've been told that the only way to solve the issue is to factory reset, although of course I'd rather not start again unless I have to.
Any ideas?
Thanks

  • Lumia 820 connection issue with Windows 7

Hi there, I'm hoping someone can help me. Up until about 2 weeks ago I could connect my Lumia 820 directly to my PC (running Windows 7) without the windows phone app. Windows would detect the phone as an external drive and it would appear in Windows explorer. Since after the new year (I uploaded music to the phone for NYE successfully), there is a connection issue. Windows sees the phone in 'Devices and Printers' but not in Windows Explorer. I downloaded the windows phone app and this doesn't connect. Windows 7 is fully updated, including the new service pack.
I have attached a screen grab to illustrate my issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Several Lumia 820 Hardware Issues

    Hi,
I bought my Lumia 820 3 weeks ago. I've come across a number of hardware issues that i noticed in those three weeks. First, i found the batteries very difficult to remove. I damaged both the battery and the recessed part for the fingers just to insert the micro SIM And microSD. Next, I noticed that the camera bezel (black oval around the camera) was uneven on the side with the Carl Zeiss label. Finally, I noticed that the screen was raised slightly higher in the bottom right corner (near the search button) and that there are dust particles under the screen. Has anyone had any or all of these issues? If so, were you able to sort it out with Nokia Care? Your input would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi JesseDan,
I found that the nearest Nokia Care from my place is 11 hours away, so I couldn't find the time to drop by. But having watched a good number of video reviews for the 820, it might be a common issue. I opted to just let go of the issues since they don't really affect the overall performance of the camera or the phone. I think Nokia would replace them, maybe even under warranty since this could count as a defect.I've seen the the camera body part on sale online so you can estimate how much it will cost if you decide to replace yours (google: lumia 820 camera deco - around 18-20 USD)

  • Lumia 820 storage drain

i have 820 and free space on phone keeps disappearing, and it says that my settings app "weight" 1.5GB and increasing. My friend has exactly the same 820,and his setting app is only 98MB (adding screenshots). so i want to know what the hell is happening with this phone? and p.s. yesterday phone had 500mb free space, & i did update extras+info's app (+-40mb) and now i have 5 to 80mb free space, it even doesnt show the real space sometimes... the phone also wants more free space for software update (470) but how the hell should i get such numbers when the phone is almost empty but still shows that he's full... and the second one of the popular bug's im countering is music duplicates, almost all of the songs has duplicate and not only one, some of songs which has not duplicate are even not working at all... and after some time they just dissapears... oh yeah, not only music duplicates, photos too(not from camera roll)... i think those phones are not completed or should i say the OS is not completed as half of microsoft products....
questions: what are the fixes for:
    settings app free space drain
music duplicates REAL FIX (i tried few, helped for month)
    photos duplicate..

  • Lumia 820 Music Sync issue.

I installed 16GB micro SDHC card into my Lumia 820 and set as default for music and pictures. I try to sync music between my mac and phone. But the end of the sync, error message comes up which says all the music can't be copied. When I check the storage section on my phone. Music and video shows 0 and  seems like all the music is in "Other" section. Couldn't see anything under "Music". Tried Google and can't find any solution. Please anybody can help me. Thanks a lot.

I have also experienced the same issue and wasted about 4 hours of my life yesterday attempting to deal with it.
Music syncing to SD is horribly broken on the 820, on both 1232.2109.1242.1001 (original) and 1232.5951.1249.1003 (portico) firmwares.
I have ended up in a state where I have had to factory reset to fix the mess on 2 occasions now, on both original and portico firmware. This issue is definitely not fixed in portico.
For some obscure reason, particularly when using the desktop sync app, if it fails and tries again the music app gets very confused and displays an array of duplicates. If you perform an SD card format whilst in this state, the music app still 'thinks' that some of the music is still there and displays it as such. The only way to fix this erroneous display is to factory reset, which is far from ideal.
A workaround to the duplicate issue is to *not* use the desktop Windows Phone app, which seems to be horribly broken.
The Metro app often says that it 'Cannot copy the file to your phone' but it actually has without any issues, go figure.
I also noticed that some SD cards simply don't work properly in the 820.
I firstly tried a brand new Samsung 32GB which intermittently stopped working when syncing, dragging and dropping, and downloading on the phone causing the store to refuse to open necessitating a reboot.
I'm currently using a Transcend 8GB which does not exhibit that problem.
I tested the Samsung on my PC and it works fine, but I returned it to Amazon as faulty and exchanged it with a Sandisk 32GB, so I'll see what happens with that when it arrives I guess.
I don't know if this is a Nokia issue or a Microsoft issue. But someone needs to step up and fix this, because a 'switcher' from another platform will return the device immediately.
I've been a Windows Phone user for some time (Omnia 7, Lumia 800, then 820), but seriously, this issue was really making me consider my choice of platform.
Music syncing to SD *needs* to work and it needs to work reliably.

  • How to set storage location in Nokia lumia 820 for...

    Hi,
I would like to know if and how to define the storage location in my Nokia lumia 820.
I have recently purchased a micro SD card by Kingston and would like to download and install apps, like games who require more storage then my Nokia 820 supports(8GB).
I saw that the only available option set is to choose the the storage for music + videos and pictures from settings/phone storage but no option set could be found for the apps or others.
Please help me with some guidelines or with a proper workaround as I tried unsuccessfully to find the understanding for this in various resources.
Thank you for considering my request.

  • Nokia Lumia 820 issues after Lumia Black update...

Before updating to the Lumia Black update:
    1. Was able to connect the Nokia Lumia 820 to my home PC using Windows 8.1 and it was able to see the device and files on it as well as sync music from Windows Media Player to the device.
    2. Was able to connect to the Nokia Lumia 820 from one of my Office PCs using Windows 8.0 and was able to see the device and files on it.
As well as to manually install Windows Phone 8 applications or install the Windows Phone 8 applications via Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate from either PC.
After the Lumia Black update, Neither PC can see files on the Nokia Lumia 820 nor can any application send files to the Phone's Memory Card or Second Memory Card. (SD Class 10)
Very frustrated with the Lumia Black update. Lumia Amber worked just fine.
I haven't changed anything as far as I know on my Nokia Lumia 820 device to cause said issues nor have I abused the device in any way.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    Thank you,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Simply wanted to add 3 new audio tracks to the Music files via Windows Media Player but cannot even connect the device like it did less than 45 days ago when everything was working properly.
All my music files are on the SD Card because the file space needed is more than the 7.3 GB on the base memory for the unit. (Something like 8.1+ GB at the present time of 29.8 GB... which is the formatted size of the 32 GB SD Class 10 card.)
When the Nokia Lumia 820 is connected to my home Windows 8.1 computer, Windows knows about it but cannot finish the handshake to see the device and the 2 memory areas on the device.
Have to determine which programs that I have installed after the initialization that I want to restore.
The problem at the moment is that turning off the unit loses ALL Music Album Data but the songs are still there. This seems to have been caused by Lumia Black Update but not sure if that is true or not.
Have a lot of stuff to backup before resetting the device. Perhaps could upload everything to SkyDrive / OneDrive then restore the data after a full reset of the device.
I have all my cell phone contact data backed up but would like to backup all text messages too.
I have 2 custom applications that I have developed but are not yet setup using the Windows Phone 8 Development License as released products... that will be done soon.
Cannot backup the latest pictures on the phone... not many since the last backup but there are pictures that are not restorable that I would like to keep.
Would rather not have to do a complete reset but may have no choice.
    Thanks,

  • Serious Issues with Lumia 820

    Dear Sir/Mam ,
I am very sorry to inform you that i have been using Nokia Lumia 820 since past  3 months , and every day i am facing new problems . Few problems I already mailed you before ( Service request no : 1-6KQPRQV )
,which started persisting within the 7 days of purchase . It is a very bad experience for a genuine customer like me , as nokia is like a family to me . Every one including my mother , father , brother are using Nokia and never faced problems since we started using cell phones .
Apart from problems i mentioned before ,few serious problems I have been facing past few days are as below :
    * People i speak with are not able to listen me properly (my voice reaches them very low) , the problem is not permanent though but it rises anytime .
*My volume key button do not respond , as i cannot change volume of the songs for hours even though i can see the volume rising and falling in display .
**** and the most important problem which i faced today is very upsetting and i am in real pain because of it , my phone dropped from a height not more than 1/2 feet ( i mean it) and my lowermost screen is damaged . I was not believing my eyes when i saw it . How can be the the screen of a phone which costs me Rs 23,800 be so soft .Thank god display is working  but i am unable to use windows key button .
I am very upset because of it . Being love with Nokia i borrowed it on installments , half of which are still pending and I am in no position to spend money on my 3 months old phone .
Please suggest me what to do , hoping for your early response .
    Thanks & Regards ,

Before I start, please note that this is a user to user forum.
Sorry to hear about the problems you are experiencing. Does sound like there are issues with your handset because it is definitely not behaving normally. Your first port of call should be your local Nokia Care Point. They should be able to assess the issues with your phone and advice you on the options available to you.

  • Lumia 820 major Battery Drain issues

Having used my Lumia 820 since last December it has been great but in the last 2 months I've suddenly found my Battery draining really fast. I replaced the battery thinking as it is 7 months old and I am not the best at charging properly it might have an issue but the new battery is exactly the same immediately.
I've isolated it to two things - playing Music via Audiocloud or Nokia Music (triples battery usage such that 75-80 minutes of playing flattens my battery, and using Here Maps route navigation which give about 60 minutes before flattening a fully charged battery. On a recent road trip even with the phone being plugged into a charger the whole trip several times the phone switched off as all power drained.
    Any suggestions?

No they aren't. Any application / Game or other such thing that requires higher processing power will result in generating more heat thereby making the phone felt somewhat WARM and will also drain the battery relatively quickly. Only if the phone is getting HOT, you may get the device inspected by Nokia Care technician ..

  • Phone contacts issue (Lumia 820)

I recently got the Lumia 820 loving it but there is one thing I hate and can't figure out how to solve.
(I've searched the forums but couldn't find a clear answer)
I imported my contacts throught the Import contacts from sim option
But now all my hotmail contacts are in my phonebook and I don't want them there. If I disable hotmail they are all gone.
My hotmail account is from my xbox so I don't even have the phone number of the people added on there, so you can guess it's pretty anoying trying to find who you're searching to call
(Only have option to show hotmail contacts and facebook contacts, if i disable them both i don't have any contacts in my phonebook anymore. Not even those who are on my sim)
Short said, I only want my contacts who are on my sim to be in my contact list on my phone
    Solved!

Your Windows Phone sits under your Microsoft account just like your Xbox does. IF you do not want to see the Xbox contacts but still want to have access to the functionality you get from using the account as your primary account you will have to do some juggling to get this to work.
If you have not set up your L820 completely yet the easiest way would be to create a new account at outlook.com, then reset the phone and register it using the new account. Now when you  import your contacts they will sync to the new outlook.com account.
Now reset the phone again and switch back to the hotmail account as primary. Then add the outlook account as a second Microsoft account and allow syncing contacts (and calendars). You can now disable the contacts from the People hub for the hotmail account through PEOPLE > ... > settings > filter contacts and disable for hotmail.
This way your Xbox account will still sync with the games and achievements on the phone while your contacts are on the second account. When adding contacts select the second account for them to sync to..
If you have the phone set up you can go to outlook.com, create the new account then logout and log back in with your hotmail account and export the contacts to your PC. Open the CSV file in a texteditor and remove all the original hotmail contacts. Then log in to te new outlook.com account and import the CSV file into that to get the contacts there.
You can link the two accounts (hotmail and outlook.com account) to easy switch between them fro there.

I have tried resetting the headset and all the official updates have been installed in Lumia. Is there anything that can be done, or will this headset be incompatible with Lumia 820?

  • WP8 Nokia Maps Lumia 820 - Offline Maps Can't Dele...

    Hello,
I have a Nokia Lumia 820 with approximately 1GB of memory free.
I am trying to download an offline map (approximately 150 MB) but I am always getting an error stating: "Not Enough Room, you need at least 1,137 MB of free space on your phone to get this map".
I get the same message when I try to delete a previously downloaded map!
Anyone had this issue before? Any help wuld be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

One year later, this bug is still around: Nokia Lumia 1520 (1028.3562.1402.0001) with HERE Maps 3.5.486.8.
In our German section, there is a guess, this relates to ‘maximum memory use’ (quota) which we all know from our Symbian days until Nokia Maps 3.01. It looks like the quota is fixed at 50%. Or stated differently: If your map data is larger than the remaining free memory, you get this error. or stated correctly: If your remaining free memory gets smaller than your existing map data, you get this error.
    Therefore, my solutions are:
to remove a very large country like Russia or China,
(three dots, horizontal ellipsis) Options » Delete all maps, or
to use a memory card and Lumia storage check beta.
The beta version still works on my Lumia Black. Because the now included Storage Check does allow Maps on memory card, you still need that beta. And because you cannot search and find that app from the internal Windows Store, you have to enter the above link into the Internet Explorer within your Lumia – or you download and install the XAP file manually.
Consequently, to download the whole HERE world, one needs a 64 GB memory card.

  • Lumia 820 crashing (?) frequently

    Hi!
I own a Lumia 820 and I'm pretty happy with the phone but I have one issue.
Sometimes the phone just stops working. This happens when it's fully charged, when it almost has no charge, when it's been turned on for hours or days, I don't see any pattern, it just happens randomly and it's very annoying.
It never happened while I was using, only when the screen goes off after innactivity.
Basicaly the screen is black, and the phone doesn't respond at all to any input. I have to disconnect the battery, connect it again and turn it on again.
The phone is fully updated and has no other issues.
How can I solve this? It's pretty tricky to try and go to the Nokia store to activate the warranty since I can't really demonstrate the issue at my own will.
    Thank you

But now I dont have the Amber updates... I try to update the phone but it says it's already up to date...
Hello MMaia, i think you do have the Amber update, but what you dont have are the Nokia uodates such as "extras and info" "glance" "storage check" etc.and until you have these it wont show up in "extras & info" that you actually have the Amber update. If you have the "Smart Cam" app installed try and open it, if it works it means you have the Amber update installed, if you dont have "Smart Cam" installed try downloading it from the store, if it lets you download the app this also means that Amber update is installed. And finally you should get a notification soon that that there are updates available, these will be the Nokia updates you are missing.

  • Nokia Lumia 820

My Lumia 820 is a week old, issue i am facing is my phone does not power off. It says slide down to exit, goodbye but comes back on again.
    can someone pls help

    hi mate,
have you checked that you are fully up to date with all the latest Nokia system apps from the Store, and that you have Portico update for WP8 installed? if you are, then try performing a soft reset (taking the battery out), or if that doesnt work, then a hard reset (Settings > About > Reset your phone). please bear in mind that a hard reset wipes everytrhing, so make a backup of all personal data first to PC and/or online storage.
failing teh above, you will need to take your phone to Nokia Care for inspection: http://nokia.com/support
