Lumia 822 Completely Bug-ridden

I bought this device for myself and my wife just under a month ago and am astonished at the number of issues. I had so mnay issues in my first two weeks that I returned my phone thinking a had a bad device. I didn't - my second handset has all the same problems:
Bluetooth
Crashes phone if turned on shortly after phone has been shut off without music being selected. Have to remove the battery while phone is on.
Stops operating if the phone lock screen is opened.
When connected music doesn't play immediately, you sometimes have to hit the pause/play button multiple times.
Takes multiple attempts to connect.
WMA files that are ripped from WMP (vs. downloaded from Zune) don't play correctly and 'skip'
Many files downloaded through Zune, and playable via Zune (desktop and WP7 handset), will not play on phone, period.
The keyboard freezes while typing and misses letters or even entire words, mostly when texting, though also in emails.
Emails sometimes won't come in when connected to LTE or even wi-fi. Have to shut down the phone and sometimes remove the battery.
Messaging
Sometimes texts come in and the phone crashes during receipt, then when the phone turns back on the texts are gone (I've confirmed they were sent by looking at the other person's phone).
Pictures sent by text often can't be opened at the other end.
NFC doesn't work in many instances where the receiving phone is proximate.
xBox Music links to Store often don't work.
And these are just the ones I've been able to note while using the phone in the first month. So I take it in to Verizon in Billings and explain just the Bluetooth and Email issues. The tech takes my phone and comes back in ten minutes to say "there will be a software update in June that will fix all of these issues". Since I told him only two of the above, I think his statement was a reach at best. But his closing was the clincher: "since it is a software issue there is nothing we can do for you". So that 'reach' statement was just an excuse to brush me off.
That is total crap. I am serving notice that I intend to drop Verizon if nothin is done for me. I'll be calling tonight to that effect. I believe I am still within the period for doing so. Back to AT&T I guess...

First off, thank you for the response. Seems responses are hard to come by here.
However, re-ripping 80 GB of music from my library to cure a bug in this phone is an impractical resolution at best. As for the WP8 program - it is terrible, and it didn't even recognize my memory card for transfers. JI just used Windows Explorer - 10 times as fast, and works fine.
My backups have never been on, never had Skype installed. Still an issue.
XBox Music: if I am in an artist's section  of my music player, and I scroll down to Search Store, it doesn't work. Always tells me it can't reach the store, even when I can get there from other parts of the interface.
All my background apps have been blocked from day one (this was an issue with WP7 as well), still have the issues.
I tried to sync my Zune Pass music with Windows 8 and *none* of it worked. That was when I did a hard reset thinking there was an issue, and have now had the issue with both phones.
So again, I appreciate the response, but more than half my concerns are still outstanding, and Verizon doesn't appear to care. Neither does Nokia, because I posted on their support forum as well and nary a peep. When my contract is up, I'm definitely never buying another handset from Verizon.

  • Lumia 822 with Denim (Developer Preview) freezing

    Hello,
I have two Lumia 822's (Verizon) both on the Developer Preview updates.  One has received the Denim update and one has not.  The phone on the Denim update freezes constantly.  I have done a factory reset on the phone with no improvement.
Can anyone tell me how to either fix the freezes or move to a different version?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Denim update is not released for your handset, you are experiencing a bug in the extras+info app which shows Lumia Denim incorrectly. I would suggest that you try the Nokia Software Recovery Tool for a complete clean reinstall of the firmware. Please back up before you do it.

  • Nokia Lumia 822 latest update

My phone has a lot of the latest update features, but its also missing a lot of it too... Such as the notification drop down menu and Cortana.... My phone says it's completely up to date, but if so why do I not have certain features of the latest update to the Nokia Lumia Black?

    Welcome to Nokia Discussions, Zurrriiii.
According to the Lumia 822 support page, the most recent software release for Nokia Lumia 822 is Lumia Black. The features you have mentioned like the action center and cortana are both integrated to a much newer update called Lumia Cyan. Availability of this update may vary per region or network provider.

  • Lumia 822 crashed with windows 10 update

Hi, I have a windows Lumia 822 and downloaded the windows 10 fast version last night. Upon completion, my phone looked normal except the lock screen photo had changed. When I unlocked the phone, I was given a black screen. No apps/tiles could be seen. Only
the battery/service icons on top are visible. I can receive calls, but that's it. I've tried rebooting, turning it off and then back on. I've also plugged it in to charge thinking that might help. How can I restore my phone?
    Thanks for your help,
    Chels805

According to Microsoft, Yes it will.

  • Lumia 822-Denim update, good or bad?

I downloaded the long awaited windows 8.1 to my lumia 822 this morning but found that it has taken away my ability to take, view, and send pictures. I'm guessing that this is a bug but I'm not sure. Has anyone else had better luck?Lu

I had the same issue. Along with some other oddities that showed up. I know that it is not what most people want to hear, but I ended up having to reset the phone back to factory and rebuilding it from the ground up. I did not let it restore any of my previous settings. (It may have been fine, but I didn't want to take the risk)
This is work, but remember you are loading a new OS onto a device that was out before the OS was so there may be some work and tweaking that needs to be done to make it work.

  • Nokia Lumia 822 - Application Issues

First – I apologize in advance for the length of this post – I just wanted to provide as much detail as I could to help others that might run into problems like I did.
I just got my Nokia Lumia 822 for Verizon and had some issues that I believe were related to the phone being set up for English United Kingdom instead of English USA.
When the associate was done setting up my phone, I started using it and noticed immediately that the virtual keyboard was set for UK English (it displayed a co.uk button instead of a .com button).  I went into Settings > System > Keyboard and Settings > System > language+region and switched from English UK to English USA, and I thought everything would be fine.
Although phone functionality, texting, 4G, WiFi, and voice mail from the Verizon Wireless Phone application all worked, and I was able to download applications from the Windows App Store, I had the following issues:
My Verizon Mobile hangs at “Loading Resources…” screen
Voicemail application – got “SIM Error – Unable to read SIM Data” error message
Settings > System > Nokia account – got “Hardware Problem – Couldn’t Complete Operation” error message
Settings > System > Backup Assistant Plus – would not start and returned directly to Settings > System menu
Settings > System > extras+info – would not start and returned directly to Settings > System menu
I took the phone to my local Verizon Wireless store and they told me that it looked like a hardware problem and that I should return it for an exchange where I purchased the phone. I also called Verizon Tech Support, and the support assistant tried a couple of things before coming to the same conclusion – that the hardware was probably faulty and I should exchange my phone for a new one.
I decided to ensure that my SIM card was seated properly, so I popped off the back cover, removed the battery, then removed my SD Card and SIM Tray, then reinserted everything and put the back cover back on.  When the phone booted up, I noticed that the App Store had 6 updates for the apps that I was having trouble with.  I went into the App Store and downloaded the updates, and now encountered the following problems:
My Verizon Mobile now launched, but I got an error message that the app could not connect to the network.
Voicemail application – still got “SIM Error”
Settings > System > Nokia account – still got “Hardware Problem”
Settings > System > Backup Assistant Plus – application launched but I got an error message
Settings > System > extras+info – now worked, and displayed version information about my phone and OS version
Finally, I went into Settings > System > about and pressed the reset your phone button.  When it booted, I went through the initial setup screens and selected the default language (English USA).  I noticed that English UK was right above the default selection, and I believe the associate who did the setup in the store selected this instead of clicking on the default.  After selecting that I wanted to restore my data from the cloud, and waiting for about 5 minutes for this to complete, I was glad to see that all of the functionality now worked as expected.
So to make a long story short, before assuming you have a bad piece of hardware, try using Settings > System > about – reset your phone – just in case it was set up incorrectly at the store.

        netsirk,
Sorry to hear that your phone has become so unresponsive! Let's see if we can get that working again. Try removing the battery for 30 seconds and then replace battery and back and power on. Should that trouble still persist then the next step would be a factory reset. This will unfortunately erase the Lumia but at least will make it functional again. Here are the instructions if you need them: http://vz.to/1mq6kLO . Best of luck.

        Hi ARowald,
I understand your concerns regarding the SD card issues you have encountered. A review of my resources indicate that this issue has been escalated to our software team and the manufacturer will address these issues in a future software update (No ETA).

  • Lumia 822 Wont Boot up

I recently put on a digitizer for my Nokia lumia 822 and a new battery, but when i try to start my phone up it gets stuck on the NOKIA screen.. its been there for over a half hour how do i fix this?

try doing a soft reset first:
hold the pwr & vol- buttons until it vibrates upon rebooting, then release the pwr button, holding the vol- until you see a (!) on your screen. then release the vol- and wait about 10-15 seconds and see if it reboots.
if that doesn't work, then try doing a hard reset (this will completely wipe all data on the device):
hold the pwr & vol- buttons until it vibrates upon rebooting, then release the pwr button, holding the vol- until you see a (!) on your screen. then release the vol-
immediately then in sequence, vol+, then vol-, then pwr, then vol-
this should then start the gears, resetting the device.
let me know if that does it for you.

  • Lumia 822 random shutdown

I've got a Lumia 822, and I've had almost no problems with it. The one glaring exception is its tendency to randomly shut down. Its not a crash, I'm never using it when this happens. I take it out of my pocket or pick it up off the charger in the morning, and its just off. The power button does not turn the phone back on after one of these incidents either; I have to remove the battery & only then will I be able to power the phone back on.
    Please help!

Same issue here, no problems with the phone in actual use, but more than once a day the phone will not awaken from a black screen "sleep", except if I hold power+ vol. down for 5-6 seconds.
This is not acceptable, there is no reason why the phone should become entirely unresponsive during periods of inactivity, and take a soft reset to become useful again. The whole reset procedure takes at least 30 seconds to complete, Nokia/VZW/MS, get together and FIX THIS PROBLEM. How many models of WP8 or iterations of firmware/OS/ and hardware do you need to see this on before actually doing something about it? I want to like this phone and the software, and I actually do in many ways, but this needs a fix soon or I will have to return it and get an iPhone or Android phone, where no such daily freeze-ups for no reason occur.

  • Lumia 822 poor performance

    I've had my Lumia
822 for several months. After about the first month, it started
multiplying photos. After much adgravation, a hard reset solved the
problem, although I lost some photos. It's worked ok for several
months, and now all of a sudden it started eating the battery. I'm
not a heavy user and only make a couple calls a day and maybe  a text
or two. I've turned off all I can, and even gotten rid of most of my
tiles. Now the phone has started missing incoming and out going calls
and texts. This phone certainly isn't performing as stated in the
specs list. With very little use, I'm having to charge the phone
every 8 to 10 hours, and more often with use. My phone only required charging around every day
and a half before all this started. Now when I go in to the Verizon store,
they tell me "that's the way smart phones are" NOT!!  What do I need to
do to restore my phone so it'll work like I was told it would?

    John B
Thanks for your reply. I'm using all the Verizon rechargers and such. I'm basing my statements on what is normal for my phone with my usage. What was happening was not normal. After several visits with the store, they sent me a new phone last week. So far, it seems to be back normal with normal battery life. I'm not having to charge the phone but maybe once a day at most. I could probably get by at two days, but I haven't had it long enough to set it's profile, yet. The new phone is not missing calls or text msgs, and seems to be working normal, even with all my tiles open. Whatever happened to the other phone caused something to run in the background, I think. If this phone had someway to see what exactly is running, it would be much easier to troubleshoot, but with the 822, there's no way to see what's running in the background. By the way, this phone is working with my old battery. The supplied phone comes without battery.
Thanks for your reply, I hope all these bugs get worked out before folks get fed up with the 822. It's really an easy phone to use.

  • Turning the search button off in a Lumia 822

I have a Lumia 822 and while I really like it and most of the features I am getting tired of accidentally triggering Bing every time I use the phone. Is there a way to disable the button completely or make it necessary to hold it for a couple of seconds to activate it?
    Thanks for any advice.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thats part of the Microsoft legacy. It's there whether we like it or not. I dont use Bing and would prefer to search using google but the button is untouchable and unchangeable.

  • Nokia lumia 822 - out of luck I guess

I bought the Nokia Lumia 822 when I renewed my contract. Early on the phone was randomly turning itself off during the day and at night. I do not have a land line at home and this is also my business phone. Random shut downs are not safe at night nor good for getting business calls.
In order to get it to come back on I have to either remove the battery or hold the power and volume button down for 20 seconds.
I stuck it out after reading in Verizon's forums that this was a common issue and might be fixed in a software patch release by Nokia/Microsoft.
After several patches and a recent (this week) reset to factory settings the problem has persisted. Just this week it has happened over 15 times causing missed calls.
    No software updates have helped.
The Verizon / Nokia forums still have numerous posts complaining of this issue but Verizon / Nokia does not seem to be aware of it or want to acknowledge it...
I had to reactivate my old Droid X on my line to keep a reliable phone powered on.
I did have a phone and email conversation with technical support who promised a solution and never got back to me. Now she will not respond to my emails.
I don't think another Nokia product will be purchased again.
    Ryan

this is the OS, not phone.  it is happening to other Nokia windows phones as well.  i've had this phone for approx 2 mths and have been told by verizon tech support that microsoft was supposed to issue the patch to correct this issue by the end of june.  ha!  i've made repeated calls to tech support, now they say patch delayed till end of july.  HA! again!!  sad part is, verizon has known this was an issue and continued to sell the phones.  i tried to return my phone within the 2 week period, but was told that the 2 weeks start on the day you ordered the phone, not received and activated it.  now i'm stuck for 2 years with a piece of crap phone.  no more windows phones for me.  i missed the 2 week mark by 24 hours.

  • Camera on Lumia 822 Developer Preview Update 8.1 GDR1 not working, needs Cyan.

About 5 months ago when the 8.1 Developer Preview was released I went ahead and got it on my Lumia 822. Everything was going great. It worked flawlessly until Updated 8.1 to the 3rd small update that was released for it. Soon after my camera stopped working and soon after that my GPS started displaying very inaccurate results. When I use any app that uses the camera it instantly crashes and I know it is a firmware issue because neither camera works. Both cameras cause the app to crash if it tries to use the camera. I updated to 8.1 GDR1 thinking it would fix it and it didn't. This happened to me 4 months ago. The community says Cyan will fix it. I have had to deal with this for 4 months. 2 months waiting for Microsoft to give it to phone companies and now 2 months waiting for Verizon to push it out. Could someone at Verizon please give an ETA? I wasn't able to take pictures all summer. Not of my summer vacation or anything. I'm begging you Verizon to push the update. At least just for Lumia 822. I'm not the only one with this issue. If you go to the WPCentral forums or just Google it, many more people are having the same issue. I know I was risking it by using a "beta OS" but come on. Updates shouldn't take this long to get pushed.

No one told you to download or install the Microsoft Developer Preview.
That is not a Verizon wireless issue. It is a Microsoft issue.
maybe you can remove it and roll back until the real updated OS is shown to be stable and available.
And this is for both posters.
I can just imagine all the posts complaining how the updates caused this not to function or that no longer works when Verizon has nothing to do with those issues either.
After it is released by the cell carriers.

  • Lumia 822 wireless charging: really misleading, No...

    Quite annoyed by this:
If you look under Lumia 822 specifications, they say this:
    http://www.nokia.com/us-en/products/phone/lumia822/specifications/
    (Under Hardware):
    Wireless connectivity
    Bluetooth 3.0
    Near Field Communication
    Wi-Fi Channel bonding
    WLAN IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n
    Qi Wireless charging
However, as it turns out, 822 also requires a wireless charging shell? For the 820, at least you see that as a listed option under Accessories, but for the 822, it is not there?
I dunno - seems wrong to me; why not have a "*" is there is a footnote needed that wireless charging shell is needed? I guess I'll keep the dual wireless charger I bought for the future with the hope that shells will become available and will not cost too much?

@slaverenz-     read the user guide: http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/pdf_guides/devices/822/Nokia_Lumia_822_UG_en.pdf
    Page 16.
In order to charge wirelessly, NFC must be enabled.  I talked to Nokia support on the phone.  NFC is necessary to connect the phone to the secondary device, whether it be a charging plate or headset, etc.  When one goes to the settings and turns on NFC, only NFC sharing is enabled.  When the shell that has not been released becomes available, it contains an NFC contact point (square) that must touch with another device to activate (the center of the charging plate for example.  The phone does not charge via NFC, but connects wirelessly to the charging plate through it.

  • Lumia 822 updates returning error code 80072ee2

Purchased a Lumia 822 in January.  On the web, I see the current version of software for the 822 is 8.0.10211.204, hardware is 1532.5951.1250.1012  My phone is currently on 8.0.9905.12 and 1532.2108.1244.0003  It has not informed me I have any updates.  I have gone into settings and requested them manually.  I get a 80072ee2 message "We are currently unable to check for updates."  I made sure I had +40% battery and WiFi was turned on.  In May, I called Verizon, the tech didn't have a clue, got Nokia on the phone, they said it wasn't released for my area yet.  It's now over a month later, still getting the error message.  Does that mean the release (which has been out for AT&T customers since mid-December) still isn't available in my area yet?  Or do I have a problem with my phone?

Interesting--I always started the wireless BEFORE I tried downloading the updates.  This time, since you said turn off the wifi, I tried checking for the updates with the wifi off.  It prompted me to turn it on--AFTER it found the updates.  I did, it downloaded and updated to the current version just fine.  Things the directions DON'T tell you...  I still think it's odd that it never prompted me for the update even though I have checkmarked both "Tell me when updates are available for my phone" and "Automatically download updates if my data settings allow it", but at this point, I don't care.  <GRIN>
    Thank you!
