Lumia 900 / 800 identifying a incoming call contac...

Hi All
I have a problem with my new Lumia 900, basically my parents have a very similar number (0428****** & 0429******) with the * being the identical numbers. When a call comes in from 0429 it identifies it as the other contact (my dad in this case, I think this may be because his number is first in my contacts as Mum is further down the list alphabetically, havnt tested this yet). This is obviously very very annoying! Incoming text messages are identified correctly it is just the incoming call, now my brother has a Lumia 800 and his does exactly the same thing!
I have come from a HTC Titan and it did NOT have this problem so I know it is not a Windows Phone problem, doing a bit of digging in Nokia forums however it appears this problem has been seen before with Nokia Symbian devices (http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Eseries-and-Communicators/Similar-Numbers-from-Deferent-Operators-Ha....
Nokia please please fix this in your Lumia range

Hi All
I got the notification about an update a couple of days ago and have just updated to 12301 and this problem is still present. No Nokia activity in this thread for a while now...
I'm looking forward to the Lumia 920 but if it has this problem just like my 900 does then I'm afraid to say I will be switching away from a Nokia once again. I came back to Nokia after having had many HTC WM and then HTC WP7 phones, all of which had been great devices. I was very pleased to see Nokia supporting the Windows Phone ecosystem and jumped on the 900 as soon as it came out.
After having had my Lumia 900 for a while now, I've got to say I have been fairly dissappointed in its battery life & this rather annoying bug that I see daily.
Hope a Nokia rep can chase this up, thanks
Normad

  • Funny issue while making calls in my lumia 900

So a strange issue popped up after the 7.8 upgrade to my Lumia 900 (I waited till all issues seemed to be resolved before applying it). Anytime I try calling a number that is not in my contacts- I just get a call ended message. The call just doesnot go through. I can make calls to my saved contacts without any hassle though. Any ideas...would SIM be a culprit though not sure why the 7.8 firmware update would affect the calling aspect.

    Hi ananthj,
    Welcome to the forum!
To isolate the case, you can try a different SIM card on your device. This is to check if you will encounter the same behavior. If it's still the same you can reset the phone to the factory setting. Just don't forget to back up your files first. Check the link below for the step-by-step procedure:

    Hope this resolves your issue.

  • Lumia 920: Incoming calls are missing sound

For a couple of days all incoming calls have been missing sound. After some trial and error I found that this can be fixed by  placing the call briefly on hold and then taking it off hold. Outgoing calls have sound normally. This would indicate that some setting for incoming calls has not been properly reset. How can this issue be fixed? The phone has been restarted several times.
My phone is Lumia 920 with the latest Portico update installed (the problems actually started before the update and continued after it).

Have you tried a factory reset? OR even changing your sim card..

  • 3G+ Video Calls on a Lumia 900

    Hello!
I've posted this once in another thread, but I don't seem to have noticed, so I'm opening a new thread for it. .
With a recent price-drop (thanks to WP8), I bought a Lumia 900 for my girlfriend. She really wants video calling, and while, my phone is capable of it, it doesn't have the comfort of skype, so we have no choice but to use 3G+ video calling through the operator, which should be fine with my subscription, except, her Lumia doesn't seem to work with this variety of video calling. .
I can use my phone to video call other phones, but not a Windows Phone. Our operator's Customer Service agents aren't exactly familiar with Windows Phone, so they seem clueless. I can't resort to Skype-to-operator type of calling, because then I'd have to pay for Skype Credits AND her 3G. .
In a nutshell, I need help with video calling without using Skype or Tango. . Help?
    Model: Nokia Lumia 900
    OS Version: WP 7.5
Issue: 3G+ Video Calls (without using Skype/Tango/etc)
I can't imagine me being the only one who has an issue with this, so if there's any solution out there, please help. .
    SIlver

Video calling as per symbian phones is not possible with wp devices. Video calling on windowsphones is by using skype or other 3rd video calling apps. This is a Microsoft constraint. If you wish to request a feature, you should direct it to microsoft on the windowsphone.uservoice.com site. But i wouldnt get my hopes up. Microsoft are working at deeply integrating skype into the os.

  • Lumia 900 caller id

    Hi,
I'm using the lumia 900 in Taiwan and I have most of the numbers in my phone book stored with the +country code then phone number.  However, when i receive calls the caller id doesn't include the +country code, and so the phone doesn't recognize the number as a contact in my phone book.  so basically the names of the people calling me never shows up... any way to resolve this? I rather not have to delete the +country code from every one of my contacts.
    Thanks

This is operator dependent have a read HERE it might work,,good luck...

  • Lumia 900 Various Issues

I recently purchased a white Lumia 900 this past weekend, and just wanted to go over some concerns/issues I've had with it thus far.  I was thinking about doing a return/replace with At&t, but it seems that the issues may vary.  I'm hoping many of these can be resolved with a software update.  Just FYI, I already ran the update that was released on 4/16 and have also reset the phone a few times since then.
    Display:
    1.  The display has a purple hue (most noticeable on gray backgrounds) when set to low brightness.  This is mostly an annoynace since my wife has the same phone and hers does not exhibit this behavior.  I'm hoping this is not a hardware issue as it displays fine above the low brightness setting.  Below is at least one thread of people having the same issue.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599308
    2.  Screen response is slow.  It seems that that there is a delay between where my finger is and how the screen tracks my movements.  I'm hoping that can be adjusted to be similar to how the Lumia 800 responds as per this video.  The tracking starts at 3:45.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KBDZrqVW-8
    3.  Home screen scrolling is slower than other Windows Phones.  On my previous Dell Venue Pro, I could scroll through the home screen much faster.  From reading about the web, it seems that the Lumia 900 is set at a much slower pace, or that the inertia scrolling just isn't set.  I'm hoping that can either be changed or allow us to change the scroll speed.  The combination of the larger screen, the slower screen response, and the slower scrolling just makes the phone feel slower than it should be.
    http://forums.wpcentral.com/lumia-900-ace/190309.htm
    Sound/Notifications:
    1.  There is a large volume discrepancy between the speaker and the headphone jack.  I try to keep the volume at one setting (around 18) because that is most comfortable for me when listening with headphones, but switching back to the speaker, and it is just clearly too loud at that setting.  I'm hoping this can be changed with an update.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1615986
    2.  Changing the volume while the screen is off is very inconsistent.  I have to press the volume rocker buttons several times before it makes the incremental change.  It seems others were having issues with the volume rocker not working at all prior to the 4/16 update, so I'm hoping this can be fixed further.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1607937
    3.  Vibrate function seems to be making a rattling noise.  This one definitely seems to be a hardware issue, though what I have seems to be 'normal' for a Lumia 900.  It's not as bad as others I've seen on the web, where it would be extremely loud, but it is annoying nonetheless.  I'm just hoping a hardware fix can be put in place for the future.  It sounds similar to that of the Lumia 900 at the end of this video.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KBDZrqVW-8
    Camera:
    1.  The camera has issues with white balance and focus.  This is definitely a software issue, since 3rd party camera software are able to take great pictures just fine, such as SophieCam.  I'm hoping this can be addressed soon.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605444
Despite these issues, I really do like the phone.  I hope many of these issues can be addressed soon via software updates.  We broke contract with our previous carrier to obtain these phones, and would really like to keep them, but not at their current state with these various issues.  I'm hoping Nokia will see these issues and provide quick and helpful support for them.

OK, so I've calmed down a bit and now realize some detailed explanation of the issue could help to identify it more than ranting.  So, here are the usage conditions and symptoms I noticed when I got into this battry drain, laggy, warm phone situation.
    1st time:
Where:  At work which is outside of Phoenix in a spotty reception area.  I had maybe 1-2bars of 4G showing
What: Drove to work using bluetooth audio all the way. When I got to work I was trying to download an App, but the download failed.  I tried again, and the download started, then just froze at 15%.  I cancelled the download and tried again.  It started to download and froze again at 15%.  I attributed this to the weak coverage (but since then I've been able to complete a download from the same location with the same service)
Then the battery seemed to drain as fast as I could charge it...literally.  I had the phone plugged into a USB charger and the state of charge barely changed after hours of charging.  I never thought to re-start.  I got home and my battery was basically dead after bluetooth audio all the way home (almost 1 hr).  I finally restarted and had no more issues.  Didn't really think anything of it...just thought my new phone had a **bleep** battery life
    2nd time (following day):
Where: At home with strong LTE coverage in Tempe
What:  Woke up, paired up with my portable bluetooth stereo at home.  Let the music play while I hung out in the pool for a few hours.  I was simultaneously taking pictures throughout the afternoon.  Battery charge quickly fell to about 25%.  I started to notice that when I would zoom into the pictures I had just taken, it would take about 15sec for the resolution to re-sharpen after zooming in.  About 20min later my battery critically low warning came on.  So, I plugged into my wall charger.  Can't remember at what point I re-started.
That was Saturday.  I had no issues and great battery life on Sunday.  No bluetooth audio usage.  Used Nokia Drive, the phone, internet, and various apps, but no BTA.
    3rd time:
Where:  Driving from Tempe to work, passing in and out of coverage along the way
What: Streamed Bluetooth audio the entire drive with a few phone calls mixed in.  Got to work and the phone was warm, but I assumed this was normal after an hour of usage.  Got into work and noticed it being laggy in general.  Turned off data and BT  Gave it a few minutes to recover and for the phone to cool off with no usage.  Phone didn't cool off and remained laggy, so I figured something was up.  I re-started, all issues disappeared, and phone cooled off.  It has been fine since.

  • Lumia 900 already broken

Having waited for what seemed like eternity, I was so stoked to finally pre-order my Lumia 900 from AT&T last week.  I recieved it on Friday and could hardly contain myself.  I quickly activated it through AT&T on Saturday morning and set-up my new phone.  It worked great for about 8 hours; then the Data Connection completely went away.  Incoming and outgoing calls work, as does the WIFI; however, the Data Connection is dead.
I called AT&T tech support and they were useless (helpless?), as the only thing we tried was resetting my phone to no avail.  As an early adopter to Windows CE/Mobile and present iPhone user, I am embarassed and devastated.  I have waited so long for the return of Windows on a phone and I thought Nokia was the right handset.  My iPhone and Android friends are already poking fun at me for giving Windows and Nokia a second chance.
The AT&T store was closed today for Easter, so I plan on returning my phone tomorrow with my tail between my legs and my head held low...

@Bate119: I too experienced this problem today after turning my phone off for about 2 hours. I called att and they were no help. I removed the micro-SIM from the 900 and put it in my 800, used it[800] for a while; then took the micro-SIM back out of the 800 and put it back in the 900 and it worked.
I know this is a fix for most pior WP owners because their old phones does not take a micro-SIM.
    Anyways, this was my fix.

  • Lumia 900 - WEIRD - Hairline Crack appeared out of...

First let me start by telling:
    - I take amazing care of my phone and I DID NOT dropped the phone and neither did anyone else in my family
    - I always make sure that I don't even keep my car keys or wallet in the same pocket as the phone
    - I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY LUMIA (best phone I ever bought....it is gorgeous and it works ...all the time)
The only thing I think that could have caused this is direct sunlight. Yesterday while coming back from work I had the phone on passenger seat and once I reached home after 20 mins I realized it may have been under direct sunlight ( it was a beautiful day....)
Then all of a sudden after a few hours I noticed this hairline crack and have been extremely puzzled...
Called Nokia Support and they gave me a reference number and asked me to sent it for repair.....

What the hell is going on here folks?????

Sounds like the detector in the headphone jack is stuck. Use a cottonswab with a bit of alcohol to clean it out and see if it works.

  • Lumia 900 Screen Draw bug

Found an interesting bug on a few lumia 900's (i have tried it on 4 and all show it) that may affect certain games, especially Harbor Master for me since it involved drawing lines to the screen edge.
The problem is that if you draw one straight line from the left edge of the screen to the right edge (or the  other way around), the end of the right edge (about 1 cm wide)  doesnt acknowledge the line drawing unless the line is drawn very slowly.
To reproduce the bug, open the nokia diagnostic tools and run the 'Touch' test. To get the diagnostics tool if you dont, just dial ##634# using the touchpad.
Draw a line fro the left edge to the right edge quickly and you will see what i mean. Or from the right to left. The same thing happens if drawn from top to bottom.

    1. I notice it is when I go to unlick my phone there is a noticable lag. When I pres the first digit of the PIN it doesn't register until after I have tapped the second characetr of the PIN.
2a. When the phone is charging it is VERY laggy. This is especaiily noticable when scrolling the start screen. Instead of the buttery smooth scrolling it is very choppy.
2b. I have also noticed the slow response when plugging/unplugging the phone. Just today after I unplugged my phone it toook several minutes for it to acknowledge it had been unplugged. As long as that occurs I see the issua of 2a (choppy scrolling, etc.) as is if it were still plugged in.
    3. The entire device seems to momentarily freeze when the brightness automatically adjusts.
    4. At times the typing in any text box (email, text meassage, etc.) seems to fall behind. It is most noticable when first starting the message (maybe the brightness is changing?).
I have those EXACT Same issues too.  Will also not that the brightness (when on auto) is SLOW to adjust to the lightting enviroment.  The biggest pain is #1 - as i usually have to enter my PIN in twice..
I love my purple screen, 1/2 day battery, sketchy touch screen and $800 price tag - I call it my Lumia 900

The current Lumia 900 will not be launching in India, as previously stated it is for the US AT&T network only.
Rumours suggest the rest of the world may see a model based on the 900 launched later this year, probably nearer to May or June. No other details are known.
I hope these rumours pan out, in Australia the 4g network has already started to be rolled out several months ago, And in my area they are due to start the roll out in feb, video calls are things I do use, so at the very least it will be very interesting. Unfortunately at this stage we are still waiting for the 800 to be shipped here.
So by the time we get the 900 the 4g network will be well under way for all the main parts of the country.

  • Incoming calls are going directly to Voicemail, Iphone 5S

I switched phones from an Iphone 4 to this Iphone 5S and my incoming calls are going directly to voice-mail and not ringing the phone. The only app I downloaded that is different from my Iphone 4 is the GroupMe app, but I don't know if that is necessarily the cause. Anyone have a suggestion? thanks

Hi,   I don't know if this info will help many, but for a few it may.  I had this problem over the weekend.  Called Tech Support 2x, they tried everything, resetting,, *73,  *228, *900 , there were no "do not disturb" settings, etc.   They prepared a work ticket for the next level of help.
Meanwhile, I couldn't figure out what changed all of a sudden.  I knew I had no calls coming in after accessing my voicemail.  I looked at my recent calls and noticed i had dialed a *83 prior to the voicemail *86.  Fat thumbs.  I remember years ago, having the features of *83 for do not disturb and *84 to stop the feature.   Just for giggles, i dialed *84, tried from another phone calling my number and WHOOLA, it came thru.
If anyone has these issues, try the *73 first.  But just for the heck of it, do *84 as well.  Takes half a second.   If those dont' work, then call Tech Support.  I wanted to share to help at least some of you as I understand the frustration of not having incoming calls.  I even called Tech Support and shared the info.  As this was not an option given to me from Tech Support,  but then again, i don't believe *83 or *84 is offered anymore.  I just dated myself, but hope it helps others !

  • My iPhone 4 won't take incoming calls. Everytime someone phones me it goes straight to voice mail. What's gone wrong?

For some reason my iPhone 4 won't take incoming calls and everytime someone phones me it goes straight to voicemail what's gone wrong??

Look at the AT&T VVM User Guide for help setting up your visual voice mail.
If you still have problems, contact AT&T Customer Service at 1-800-331-0500 and ask them to check that your account is provisioned for an iPhone 4.

  • Bought a new phone and now we can not receive incoming calls

This week I bought a new Panasonic cordless handset with no answering machine to replace our AT&T desk phone. I set it all up and waited the 7 hours for it to charge. Checked for dial tone, ringer, and volume. Called the house # from my cell phone and the screen on the Panasonic never showed an incoming call - kicked into voice mail (provided by Verizon) after the preset 5 rings so I left a test message. Panasonic screen showed a "1 new voice mail message". I was able to dial the voice mail access phone # and listen to my test message. Disconnected the new handset and reconnected our old phone - worked just fine. Returned the Panasonic to the store where purchased and exchanged for another (same model). Sales assoc. said there may be a code needed from Verizon. Spent hours on the phone attempting to speak to a real person at the customer service # and decided none work there anymore - everything was automated! After "4 digit pin" frustrations I gave up!
So if you've read this far and can help I'd sure appreciate it! Line works fine, old phone works fine, checked ringer/volume on new phone. Only working phone jack in the house (used to have 2 but when we contracted with V last year they only changed over one - another frustration).   And how can I find out when our contract is up?!?

Your mostly talking to peers here.  Better off using the
    http://www22.verizon.com/support/residential/contact-us/index.htm
option which is on all the Verizon pages.  Should always lead you to phone numbers (1-800-verizon) and often an online chat.  Sometimes will show you and email option.
As far as peers helping we would need to know  what type phone service and general area of the country.  Obviously varies as I have had no trouble with panasonic, uniden and other phones at my two locations (NY and FL).
