I had a similar problem. the cell slipped from a ht of 2 feet and the glass is shattered. The display touch screen is still working. The local Nokia care center sent an quote for $ 200 siting that the glass along cannot be changed.
Its insane for a cell bought at $564.
The glass replacement has to be cheaper and there should facility to change it at reasonable cost, since glass is always fraglie.
Can anybody suggest.....

  • Lumia 920 broken flashlight?

    Hi there!
Noticed today when i was going to take a picture with my Lumia 920, that the flash doesent work anymore. The flash is on.
Tryed download a "flashlight" app and see if the light would work, but its stone-dead..
Have had my 920 since late November and am overall satisfyed with it. Have experienced that the phone "freezes" and restarts as many other here also complained abouth though. Atleast 1 time per day my phone restarts.. And it about 3-5 times per day the phone completle lose services with mobile network, and it takes about 2-5 minutes until it finds reception again, all times... Strange faults, anyone got a clue?
Anyhow, about the flashlight. That counts as a warranty-fault i hope?
    Best regards. FloRic

If it is due to a manufacturing defect and not misuse then it should be covered by the warranty. You could try rebooting your phone to see if that resets the flash before sending it for repair. You can reboot phone presseing and holding the vol down and power button until the phone vibrates.

  • Lumia 800 broken glass

I suggest anyone with a Lumia 800 should put a screen protector on.
This was my 1 week old Lumia 800 after it slipped out of my pocket while I was sitting at a restaurant. It fell only about 1m but it landed face down on to a tiled floor.
It looks like it must have hit on the corner and that shattered all the glass.

Seems this could be a problem as there are lots and lots of people reporting smashed screens after minor falls.
I had my nokia 800 for about 6 weeks, when I took it out of my pocket, it slipped out of my hand (from hip height) and smashed. I couldn't believe it.   For the first time ever, I had phone insurance so for a £50 excess, it was repaired.
I have only been using it again for about 3 weeks - yesterday something unbelievable happened.
My phone slid off the top of my handbag, very slowly and from a height of no more than 6 inches onto a hospital floor, and the screen smashed!  This time I can still see some things on the screen, but I can't use it.
I cannot believe it - surely a mobile phone is meant to be used and handled. I'm now wondering if there's a fault in the design of my casing (which DID have a protective cover on), because this is absolutely rubbish.
I have always had nokia phones and my N8 had some serious knocks and was always fine.
Come on Nokia, is the 800 to be admired or used?
For what it's worth, I love the 800 - it's the best phone APART from its incredible fragility.
    ANY suggestions?

  • Lumia 920 screen broken + other problems

    Hi,
There are many videos posted about breaking lumia 920s screen and how difficult it is.
Well, mine broke without any effort. I've had the phone for 3,5 weeks, I have NOT dropped it or hit it anywhere nor have I scratched it with anything. I woke up yesterday morning and after writing one message and closing the monitor i noticed a crack/scratch on the right side of the screen where the buttons are located on the side (volume - lockscreen). I know most of you think I've thrown the phone somewhere or dropped it, but I have not. This crack seems to be somewhat deep but very narrow, like hair.
Has anyone else expriences such things?
Today I went to the place where I bought the phone and the boy working there said that "nothing we can do, won't go to guarantee" and he based his claim on previous complaints about other smartphones. However this GorillaGlass should be sturdy, but it seems that at least in my phone it broke by itself. I have the red version of the phone bought from Finland, made in China.
On top of this, some people say when talking in the phone that my voice is coming poorly or almost not at all. This is random.
Phone also gets -very- warm if used near the camera on the back of the phone, I do not know what chip is located in there, but the heating happens when an online software is being used that requires an internet connection - either wireless or 3G.
And furthermore, the headphones didn't really work long, the right plug began working on/off and making some scratching sounds after maybe 3 hours of use and it seems to work depending on the position of the cord.
Anyway, I am wondering if someone else has had their screen broken without any harm done to it? In my opinion this should NOT happen in less than a month's use of the phone. If searched from the internet (google), there are quite a few posts about scratched and cracks in lumia 920 screen but I did not find any posts from here with a quick look.
..And, is there anything I can do about this? it's a pity that this kind of obvious error in this certain phone I have is making it uglier and annoying me so much...
    Cheers,
    J

The only possibility for glass breaking is the temperature change actually. I was thinking about it myself too. And this is so strange because, as you mentioned, there are videos and info about the glass' hardness around the internet to be found. However, as I live in Finland and it is (real) winter here the phone has undergone temperature changes earlier too, even more dramatic than on friday morning when I took it outside with me for 5 minutes (was only -10 outside, 22ish inside) and this is not as big a temperature change that a phone should not last really as people do live in hot and cold countries.
Other possibility, which is also unlikely, is that the buttons on the side have something wrong with them or they have somehow bent the glass as the crack is at that edge of the screen.
The thing is, the morning I woke up, glass was fine, nothing on it. About an hour later I reply to a message and after locking the screen I see the crack. All this time the phone was on the table facing up. Luckily there is nothing wrong with the functions or anything else with the phone related to the glass, it just makes the otherwise good looking surface a bit ugly.
Has anyone reading this tried to use those "scratch fix solutions" found from webshops? That you apply on the glass and the scratch/dent/crack goes away? -though I doubt that's a good option to do, but it'll be a quick one and at least the crack won't bother me longer.
It is really stupid that otherwise a very pretty and seemingly great phone which I've already grown to like more than I thought I would in such short time (after N8) has this kind of a thing in reserve for me. =(
The live chat and call options are probably open during weekdays, thus I did not use them yet even though they were on the possible options in the nokia care (I checked it first before posting here in the first place). Also the closest Nokia care place is a bit far away, but let's see.
    Again, thanks for replies.

  • Lumia 920 - Volume Up stuck after replacing broken...

I accidentally dropped my phone and shattered the upper third of my digitizer. I have a lot of experience replacing broken screens on iPhones, so I looked up the repair process on YouTube and ordered a replacement digitizer and replaced it.
Upon booting up the phone after the repair, the phone entered the firmware flashing mode with a lighning bolt and a cog on the screen. This screen is entered by holding the Volume Up button while the device is powering on. I didn't know what this screen was at first, so I kept attempting to force a reboot by holding Power + Volume Down. Eventually, the phone booted into the operating system, but when I went to adjust the volume, the volume went all the way to the max (30/30) and trying to press volume down results in volume level rapidly alternating between 29 and 30 and when I'm not pressing any buttons, the ribbon with the volume level at the top of the screen is always displayed.
This causes a lot of issues using the phone.
It is very difficult to get the phone to boot past the firmware flashing mode
Search bars and other controls at the top of the screen are hidden behind the volume ribbon.
This is even more invasive if I have played any music from the music app and the playback controls are also displayed
    Apps randomly crash.
The back button does not function properly because rather than backing out to the previous screen, it just attempts to back out of the volume ribbon which immediately reappears.
Wireless charging and "tap to send" functionality does not work
I searched eBay for purchasing a used phone and came across someone selling his Lumia 920 for parts. He described the same exact issue - The volume controls don't function correctly after a screen repair and now he can't boot past the firmware flashing mode.
This is the troubleshooting I have done.
The volume buttons on the flex cable are not damaged. Both up and down still have the physical "click" when pressing the buttons.
I replaced the volume/power/camera flex cable with a new one and still experienced the same issue
I attempted a factory reset on the phone.
The phone boots normally with no issues if (with the housing removed) I disconnect the power flex cable immediately after pressing the power button
When reconnecting the flex cable the volume up and down function sometimes function normally for a few seconds before the phone begins to recognizing a held volume up again
Sometimes the held volume up is recognized immediately after reconnecting that flex cable.
I can find no physical evidence to explain why the phone is recognizing that the Volume Up button is being held. The repair sites who have detailed instructions on performing screen repairs offer no support involving this issue. Has anyone else ever come across this issue after repairing a broken screen, and know what might have gove wrong? I have already purchased a used 920 to replace my broken phone and will probably be looking to sell this one for parts, but it would be nice to know what I did wrong for future reference.

Unfortunately upon this manufacturer's sponsored forum we are prohibited from discussing disassembly of devices, due primarily to invalidation of any warranty. Must say that I would always tend to re-install device software after such intervention. In the motor industry it is no longer just a question of replacing car electrical component as ECU has to be re-programmed to accept the new one, so don't to what extent latest phones are following this trend.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 cracked gorilla glass , poor desig...

Having owned a nokia lumia 920 for less than 3 months and now with a cracked screen id have to say im disapponted by the lack of design consideration for purpose .
I have owned many nokia phones over the years and have never faced this issue.
I contacted nokia today confident that they would take ownership and assist as this no doubt will be a problem faced by every owner of the Lumia 920 phone sooner or later . To my disappointment i was placed on hold for 45minutes then told the phone would have to be returned to the place of purchase and then sent to nokia for an unknown period of time for inspection . Realising Nokia was planning to take zero responsibility i offered to pay for the replacement screen and carry out the repair myself . At this point i was told Nokia does not supply or sell replacement parts .
So what now Nokia ? seriously, talk about wiping your hands of an issue and giving no consideration to those who have supported you ..................
I assume i will now have to buy an aftermarket glass replacement and i expect i will be buying many of these until i change brands or nokia responds by realizing glass is great for windscreens but not phone screens , although plasic is .

    Hi Guys!
Just a gentle reminder, please be respectful of what you are posting so that we can maintain the friendly environment of this forum.
    Peace to you all!

  • Vibration not working [under warranty] Lumia 920

    Hi,
I have a lumia 920 and my vibration doesn't work and also i have my glass broked (touch works perfectly), but vibration started not working a lot of time after that accident.
An employee of the Nokia service center told me that my problem of vibration is not covered under warranty because the glass is broken. On the internet it says that the vibration's problem is a manufacturing error.
I think is fair that the problem of vibration since it is proven to be a manufacturing defect will be fixed under warranty! Am I wrong?
[I've tried soft and hard reset and did not work]
    thx you for help

The problem is that the service centre has no way of knowing that the vibration issue occurred before you broke the glass. Most manufacturers will declare a warranty void when there are signs of physical damage.
All you can really so is discuss it further with the service centre or contact Nokia directly in your country and submit a complaint.

  • Opinion on the Lumia 920

    Hello all
about a month and a half ago, I sent my broken Lumia 800 in for repair (as it was still in warranty) after owning and using it for almost 2 years. A few days later, I received a message that told me my 800 could not be fixed, and asked me if I would accept a Lumia 920 instead. Of course I was extremely happy, and gratefully accepted the offer. I should note that I did not receive any warranty of some sort with the new phone.
We are now almost 2 months further, and I have to say I am very dissapointed.
The battery first of all was not good at all. The phone couldn't last 5 hours with minimal use, even though I keep wifi and location off at all times... the device gets incredibly hot too, basically after 2 minutes of browsing my emails.
After about 2 days of owning the device, I discovered 2 dead pixels on the screen, both on a very irritating location. I could not fix them in any way.
The phone also acts rather slowly; much slower than my previous 800.
The camera is also a problem: Sometimes the screen turns a darkish green, and I have to restart the phone to get it working properply.
These are just some of the many problems I have experienced. I just wanted to get these frustrations of my chest, because I feel like I got ripped off a little by the nokia repair team... The phone wasn't in its original packaging, but in a little plastic bag... Did anyone experience something similar?
    Thanks for reading

Clearly the 920 you received is not performing properly. In your place I would just take it back to the repair facility to have it checked out and repaired or replaced. If you wish to try some troubleshooting on your own you can start with resetting the phone from settings > about > reset my phone. This will wipe all data and settings from your phone, so please back up all you need before resetting. If the reset does not help, you can try a full complete firmware reinstall using the Software Recovery Tool on a PC. If you still have problems after that your remaining option is back to the repair centre. In any case, these methods will not fix the dead pixels. as they are a hardware fault.

  • Lumia 920 does not recognize transferred media fil...

I am able to transfer media files (mp3) to the phone with my Ubuntu 12.04 with no problem at all. However, the phone does not recognize files when I go to Nokia Music application. Software says that all the Music "folders" (Albums, Genres etc.) are empty. Am I missing something here? Seems like no one else has this problem.
I have tried putting the mp3 files in all possible folders ( music, documents etc)  on phone, but no luck. I have also tried several different mp3 files. Can anyone help me with this?

This was never a problem for me with my fisrt 920. I have just taken delivery of a replacement phone after I managed to smash the glass on thge first one last week. I have tried transferring albums and songs (in mpeg-4 format from my pc's file explorer, using the USB connector. File Explorer indicates that the files have copied correctly into the Lumia's Music folder but when I try to run Nokia Music it tells me that nothing has been transferred. So I check back on the pc with USB connector and, sure enough, File Explorer tells me that the folders and files ARE there.
What's happening on the Lumia 920? (By the way the X-Box Music App also tells me that nothing exists on my Lumia music folder).
Absolutely no problem transferring photos by this route.

  • Nokia Lumia 800 - broken screen, password protecte...

    Hi
My screen is shattered on my phone, phone does not respond.  I really don't want to lose all my contacts, photos and videos from my old phone, how can I back it up?

your contacts/calendar data is fine if you used Microsoft (Live) account on phone. You can check here https://people.live.com
unfortunatelly you can kiss goodbye multimedia content from phone.... you can try restart phone (soft reset: hold 10+ seconds power button) when connected to PC and Zune and try access to multimedia content but you need to be very lucky...
WP OS is very secure and people must learn to use backup and save private data and multimedia data almost daily... with WP8 is easier and faster.
or find broken Lumia 800 with good touch screen and replace on your device... hope you learn from this bad experience to next time (no mater which phone OS use in future) use cloud services or PC to save things from phone.

  • Lumia 920 wireless charging not working after phon...

    Long story short
Coulnd't hear anyone speaking on the phone if volume was turned up over 6 as internal earpiece distorts too badly (there is something loose inside the Lumia 920)
Got the phone back from Nokia care point in Cheltenham UK, earpiece fault not fixed.
Took it home, put it on the wireless charger - it now does not charge whereas it did perfectly before the trip to get 'fixed'
Nokia careport say 'Nothing to do with us, we'll have to send it back to Finland, which will take 3 weeks and you can't have a spare phone'
As a result, my confidence in Nokia is fading fast, won't be giving them any more chances to build a decent phone when this contract ends.

Sounds like the care point has broken it and are refusing to accept responsibility for their actions. Care points are independent and not directly run by Nokia.
I suggest you submit a complaint to Nokia UK on this link:

  • Lumia 920 - Proximity Sensor

I have a Nokia Lumia 920 in black from Everything Everywhere (Which I have paid to have an unlock code and use on o2 UK) for the last week or so it appears the proximity sensor has been playing up. As soon as I make a call, answer a call or use Skype the screen turns off and I can only end the call by promptly pressing the power button and then quickly hitting the end call button before the screen turns off again.
It appears to me that the proximity sensor is detecting that the phone is still by my face even when I hold it away.
Is there a way I can diagnose this or will I have to send it in for repair?
If it goes in for repair, will it remain carrier unlocked as I paid for this?
    Thanks,
    Jamie.

Hi - I had this problem with two, yes two successive 920 handsets.  Maby I was unlucky, but elsewhere online I can see that alot of customers have had this problem.  Amazingly, it does not seem to be a software problem, but a physial problem.  Dust gets actually under the glass.  You may be able to see it by the front facing lens.  The problem about ending calls happen becaue dust settles on he proximity sensor which is housed just above the N on the Nokia at the top right of the handset.  I know this sounds crazy for a top of the range smartphone, but it does seem to be the cause.  The shop I used allowed me to change to an HTC One without any quibbles. I was sad because I really lilked my 920s but not being able to finish a call is a showstopper.  I thought of persevering with blowing compressed air at the top of the handset, but eventually concluded that if the phone is that bad after three weeks then there is no way it will last the duration of a 24 month contract!

  • Does anyone have a scratch on their Lumia 920?

I thought that the lumia 920 is supposed to have scratch resistant gorilla glass? Some how after 3 days of carrying the phone in a pocket there are scratches visible on the screen : (  Do I have a defective unit??? I'm very disappointed what should I do?

I feel like I have a lot of scratchs on mine from absentmindedly setting it down screen down.  This has only happened twice and I can clearly see where the weight of the phone rests on the table/surface I set it on due to scratches in 2 bands about 1cm in from the long sides of the phone.  This hasn't happened to me with any other phone because the glass wasn't near the highest surface on the front of the phone nor was it curved.    I can really only see this small scratches with the screen off at an angle, or if I looks really hard since I am aware of them now.
I am ordering a screen protector so I hopefully wont have to baby my phone and always set it in a padded cradle to not get scratched.  My Samsung Focus would get thrown across the room to couches and tossed to desks for the past two years with only minor scratches since it had raised edges around the screen preventing the glass from getting scratched by tiny pieces of dirt.
LESSON: never ever set your Nokia 920 face down on something since it may get micro scratches that will make you self conscious of your phone screen!
