Lumia 920 cannot connect to London Underground Vir...

Hi there,
I have never been able to connect to Virgin WiFi in London Underground since I have had my Nokia Lumia 920 since December 2012 (it says "connecting..." for a while, then says that it could reach the network, altough the signal is strong). I used to be able to connect to that network without any problem on Windows Phone 7, using a Samsung Omnia 7 or a Nokia Lumia 800. This has been tested at different stations where Virgin WiFi is available.
OS version: 8.0.10211.204
Firmware revision number: 1232.5951.1249.1018
Note: I'm a an EE customer and I am register for free Virgin WiFi on London Underground. I do not think it's an operator related problem since I cannot even connect to the WiFi network.
Note 2: I have no problem connecting to my home or work wifi.

UPDATE: The mod's edited my post and unfortunately removed some of the explanation of why my connection to the tube wifi has been restored. I didn't mean to cause trouble, mods - sorry! Am I allowed to confirm that manually flashing the most recent 920 UK EE firmware has instantly restored my tube WiFi?
Hi,
Just thought I'd update, if anyone's interested.
Manually flashing the most recent 920 UK EE firmware has restored my tube WIFI connection - the phone connected instantly this morning when I selected Virgin Media. I do, however, seem to have lost the updated 'Storage Checker' option in the Settings menu that appeared with the original OTA update. Still, you win some, you lose some. I use the tube WIFI far more often so I'd rather have that.
It seems that, at least with my phone, every OTA firmware update renders me unable to connect to the tube WIFI. Manually flashing either the same firmware or a different version restores it, but comes with the tedious hassle of losing some settings.
I'll just have to see what happens with the PR2.0 update that's apparently coming in July...

    Hi,
Sorry for sending you a private message but i dont know who else to recur to.
I've a Lumia 920 that is not on warranty any more. (Bought on internet).
I'm from Portugal and the phone came directly from Switzerland.
I cannot connect to my PC. I've tried everything from usb cable, diferrent PC's, different Windows Softwares, even Android Tablet and nothing.
Then I went to my town Nokia Care Store and they tried it did not work also with them. They ended saying to me that they could not solve my problem.
Then I tried with a friend that have an Lumia 920 connecting my L920 to his computer and one more time it did not work.
Finally I talk to private mobile technician that had a new usb internal cable and changed it for me. Also did not work.
I really dont know if the problem is L920 motherboard or any software problem that just dont let me connect to the PC.
I always get the message "USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED".
My only issue is this one because all the rest works perfectly. Even USB charging.
    Please help.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
A Nokia phone which was intended for sale in any country of the European Union plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland or Turkey would be covered for two years by the European Limited Warranty which is valid in all of those countries. When you visited Nokia Care, did they check your IMEI against our systems to verify the warranty status of your phone?

  • Nokia Lumia 920 - Not connecting on MAC OSX 10.6.8

    Hello everybody,
I have this problem that alot of people are encounting but it seems having no solutions yet.
I bought my Nokia Lumia 920 a couple days ago, made all the updates alvaible but still I can't connect my phone to my MacBook Pro.
The funny part is that my dropbox application on my mac detect my phone and tries to import my pictures where neither iTunes or Finder are able to recognize my Nokia.
The all support we got is to download a app which is not working for the OSX 10.6.8 and they seem to force us to upgrade to the 10.7 OSX.
It is my right, as a consummer, to choose to OS I want for my laptop and it is to both Windows and Nokia to make their devices compatible to their customers computers.
So here is my call to all Nokia and Windows developpers: Do not ignore us, there is a problem and the first step in order to solve it is to recognize this problem.
The least you can do is to tell us that you are currently working on it because I feel all alone in the dark but I am pretty sure I am not alone and you might loose some clients that are delighted with your phone but really "**bleep**" off the way that they are treated in the process of solving this important problem.
Thank you for your time and comprehension,
I am looking forward some advices from any developpers.

I have to raise a different view point. Many users of macs are ordinary, non-techie people, who simply want a machine to do basic things. I know people with very old macs, and they are happily using them for simple purposes. I have 10.6.8, and any upgrade would cost me some money to upgrade parallels. Macs can run for years, and I believe that it is important for equipment to be able to be used for long periods of time, if the user wishes. Also, earlier OS are very commonly unsed in coutries where money and internet is not as available as to many of us.
I also use a mac with XP as I need a small install base for only one PC based software that I occasionally use.
As a developer, I would expect them to look at the actual installed back of OS, and realise that some simple functionality should be backward to existing users. The ability for a phone to connect to earlier OS is something which I did not even think about - I thought it would be automatic. Its also not that difficult to develop.
The forums are awash with frustrated new pruchasers of Lumia phones, suddenly realising that their expected functionality with PC Suite, etc has now gone. Many of those people are very frustrated, and they will pass on their frustrations to others, and sales will be affected.
I have been a Nokia user now for about six years, and I have watched the same frustrations of users, requesting Nolia to develop expected connection, integration, and sync software that other phone manufacturers seem to be able to do. Finally, a reasonable PC Suite version is now developed, but not compatible with Lumia?? Do we have to go through the whole waiting thing again? Why cannot Nokia look at this not as a software problem, but an expected functionality feature.

  • Lumia 920 Facebook connection very slow over WiFi ...

Since the Portico update the connection to Facebook both in the People and Me hub as well as in the Facebook app is very slow over WiFi, whilst still good over 4G/LTE (with WiFi off). The connection to the Nokia account also appears to have a similar problem. All other accounts and apps have good speed over both cellular and WiFi connections.
    Any ideas anybody?
PS: FYI, a bit more info about the history and context: When I noticed the problem the first time after the update, I tried to solve it by deleting and re-adding my Facebook account on the phone. Unfortunately, that made me lose my Me hub tile, so I decided to do a full reset. That again unfortunately got stuck on the togg wheels, so I restored the phone using Nokia Care Suite with the latest firmware, and restored my accounts, apps and settings from scratch. Everythings seems to work fine now, except the above mentioned Facebook and Nokia account connectivity problem.

Did you somehow solve this problem?
I have the same issue here with my Lumia 920.
However I have already found out that it only applies to my home Wifi. All other Wifi networks i was connecting to did work flawlesly.
I need to note that all other devices on my home network are using facebook without a glitch. Only Lumia has some problems with it.

  • Lumia 820 cannot connect to PC via Bluetooth

Hi there. I have recently bought a new Lumia 820, which is a great phone, except that I cannot connect the Lumia to my PC (win 7) via Bluetooth. I have been using phones with bluetooth for a long time, so this is not my first time. I can see my pc in the list, but when i click "connect", the phone is connected to the pc for like one second and then the connection breaks up. Transfering a single file by clicking "send" and then "bluetooth" is no problem, but the connecting directly between the pc and the phone via bluetooth instead of usb cable is no success. Can anybody help me out here please? Thank you!

  • Lumia 800 cannot connect to Zune

    Hello,
I am trying to connect my lumia 800 to my windows 7 computer but zune keeps saying: cannot connect to phone. Turn your phone off and try again. (something like that, the message is not in English).
I have tried everything I could find to solve this problem but nothing worked so far.
    I have tried:
    - The fix-it utility of Microsoft. It says there are no problems.
    - Reinstalling zune
    - Turning the phone off/on
    - Delete a certificate used by Zune
    - Checking if the drivers are correctly installed. Device manager does recognize a lumia 800, also there are no problems detected there!
    - Using a different USB cable
    - Using a different computer (have tried 3 computers so far, all gave the same error message)
    - Resetting the phone to factory defaults.
I need to install the update to solve the battery drain problem, but nothing works
Does anyone have some extra tips that may help connecting my phone to zune? Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I just fixed it. For anyone also looking for the solution this post from the windows phone forum helped me:
    (link to post: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp7-sync/cannot-connect-nokia-lumia-800-to-zune/e1...
So first of all: remove the certificate following these steps
1: Go to "Start" and in "Search" type: certmgr.msc
2: Open the folder "Personal" and then "Certificates"
3: Remove the zunetuner certificate (If there are more than one, remove them all)
4: Open the private keys folder by typing in "Start" and "Search": %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA
5: Rename the "S-1-5-21..." folder's name so it ends in .bak. (A new folder will automatically be created when Zune is launched and the phone connected.)
If this corrects the problem, restore the private keys folder:
    1. Open the folder at %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA that you renamed to end with .bak. Select and copy all the files.
    2. Go back to "Start" and in "Search" type: %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA and open the new folder that was created automatically.
    3. Paste all the files back into this folder. When prompted with "There is already a file with the same name in this location" choose to not move the file, leaving the file in the destination directory.
    4. The folder renamed to end with .bak can now be deleted.
And afterwards (this fixed it for me):
The devil is in the detail - simply deleting the certificate didn't work for me (it wasn't re-created afterwards).  After deleting all the certificates you need kill the Zune auto-launcher process before plugging the phone back in

  • Nokia Lumia 920 CANNOT be repaired?

    Hi,
I purchased a Nokia Lumia 920 not very long ago, and even though it hung on me within the first hour of me having the phone.. I was pretty happy with it. Sadly, I happened to spill some water on it and promptly took it to a Nokia Care Center here in India (at Irla). They told me they will have to send it to the Nokia 'Main Center' at New Delhi. I reconfirmed this with another Nokia Care Center (at Ghatkopar) - and allowed them to ship my phone to New Delhi. Now they have returned the phone saying that it CANNOT be repaired. I am at a complete loss of words... WORSE things happened to my Blackberry & my previous Nokia phone (my earlier Nokia was completely submerged in water and it still worked!!!) and they were repaired within virtually no time.
Please someone help me understand -
    1. Is Nokia Lumia 920, THAT fragile and I made a complete fool of myself buying the phone?
    2. Is there anyone else, anywhere in the world, who can help me repair my phone?
    Thanks,
    Anita Shyam.

It's pointless trying to repair a water damaged phone because mineral deposits from the water will eventually corode the internal electronics causing the phone to fail completely at some point in the future.
Yes, that can happen, and I can see that a repairer wouldn't want to give any warranty on such a repair, but it's not pointless for the owner if the only other option is to discard the phone and buy another.  Many drenched phones go on to work for years after careful, thorough drying out.
One of my kids' phones recovered after a trip through our washing machine.  In that case admittedly I had to open it up and wash it with clean water and a soft brush to get rid of soap residue and corrosion, but after a week or two in the airing cupboard it was as good as new.

PS  My top tip for anyone who does inadvertantly dunk their phone in water is get the battery out straight away.

  • Lumia 820 cannot connect hidden WIFI with special ...

    Dear all,
I found Lumia 820 could not connect hidden WIFI (non-broadcast SSID) with special configuration. Just as shahidzafar said in Microsoft community (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp8-wpnetwork/nokia-lumia-820-cant-connect-to-hidd...).  I face the same issue with his Lumia. Could anyone face the same issue? Do we need to update some patch for Windows system on Lumia? Thanks.
                                                                                                                                                                               Tianhao.

I have exactly the same problem. Would appreciate some advice.
Please don't suggest changing the settings in the corporate network - this is simply impossible. And unnecessary, as I can judge from the other Windows-phones of my colleagues (not Lumia 820) which CAN connect to the hidden network.
    Thanks!

  • Lumia 900 cannot connect to Zune

I just got a message on my phone saying there's an update available. The problem is, whenever I plug it in, Zune complains it cannot connect to the phone and tells me to restart the phone and try again. Restarting the phone does not help. What can I do, except just forget about this update and settle for the firmware the phone came with?

  • Please update Lumia 920 LTE connections issues.

just want to say that this is a wonderful device.
I am having issues with LTE intermittently connecting. I have to reset the phone to correct sometimes.
Will there be a update that addresses this?

To be honest. I have four identical 920's in my house. The other 3 people using them aren't heavy internet/data users. As soon as I used internet connection sharing (works perfectly by the way - also made sure WIFI stayed on with lock screen) my phone no longer connects to LTE as the preferred freq choice. The other phones have never done ICS and they are all constantly on LTE and never switch down. My set is constantly on 3G or 4G. If I travel, and the LTE connection is strong, then the phone does go there but typically not. I believe its a WP8 issue. Please fix because I'd like to appreciate the LTE speed that is offered here.

  • Lumia 800 cannot connect to my car's bluetooth

Got my Lumia 800 last week and i'm very happy with it - except for one thing. It refuses to connect to my car's bluetooth hands-free system.
The car is a Ford Mondeo XR5 (2009), with factory-fitted bluetooth.  I've used several other phones with the car system with no problems, including my old Nokia 6700 classic, Samsung Galaxy S2 and Nokia N9.  These all conenct and work fine.  Just not the Lumia 800.
I've used Zune to get the latest software for the phone, and have checked bluetooth is turned on (can connect to my laptop OK).
I've spoken to Ford and they say the car system is working fine, since it can connect to all the other phones OK.  Spoke to Nokia support & they refer me back to Ford .
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check for updates for your in-car bluetooth system, 2009 hardware is very very old by today's standards, especially since car bluetooth systems are lagging a few years behind other technology by default.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 wifi not working

    Hi
My brand new Nokia Lumia 920 cannot connect to my wifi.
It keeps saying that I type the wrong password, which i do not.
All other devices in my house connect just fine.
I have tried switching channel on my router and change from WPA PSK to WEP but nothing helps.
    Any suggestions?

I'll link to another discussion that had a resolution that worked for me. This is the only place I saw a resolution for the problem.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp8-wpnetwork/lumia-920-refuses-to-connect-to-wifi...
Basically, I changed my router settings from mixed 802.11 b/g to 802.11 g only. Now it connects, no problem.
    Good luck.

  • Lumia 920 restart

On my daily ½ hour commute to work, my Lumia 920 often restart. Sometime there are no problem, and sometime it restarts it self 3-4 times on the short trip.
On a normal week I would say that it restart at least once on three out of five days.
Yesterday it restarted once on the way to work, and three times on the way back.
The phone never restarts when I'm at work or at home. Only when I'm driving.
I have WIFI, 3G and Bluetooth enabled, though WIFI is not connected. 4G is disabled.
The Lumia 920 is connected to my Jabra Freeway via bluetooth.
    I'm running version 1232.5951.1249.1002.

wrong fix: reset your phone. That's the worst solution for me, you would lose basically most of your data
temporary fix: force edge (2G). It should not reboot any longer.
    real fix: update your software
I updated more than a month ago and all went fine, I am in 3G since and have not experienced a single reboot. I think you can force the update to your current version if you find 'force update wifi zune' on google, that works pretty well too.
    good luck
Good advice in general, except Zune does not work with WP8 handsets like the Lumia 920 where all updates are done only OTA, plus the OP already has the latest available firmware on their handset.

  • Cannot connect Lumia 920 to Windows 7

When I check Device Manager, I keep getting "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" and the device is a "RM-821|Nokia Lumia 920". I have restarted both Phone and laptop several times. I did connect succesfully to my HTC Radar.
I dont even get the "Charging" symbol on my Lumia.
Connecting My Lumia to another laptop running Windows 8 works just fine.
How can I install the correct driver, and from where to I get it? I expected to get it from Windows Update as it should "just works".
