Lumia 920 dies on its own

My Nokia Lumia 920 dies out of nowhere on its own. It just has a black screen and the power button doesn't do anything. To get it on I need to do a soft reset (Volume+Power buttons). What's weird is that I think its the stock charger... When I plug into my Lumia stock charger at night I wake up and the phone is dead, then I miss my alarm, and it shuts off throughout the day. But when I use the charger from my Galaxy Nexus, my phone doesn't die at all...

this was probably a universal mail sent to you.
Having said that some things need to be changed with such posts ive seen a few instances similar.
Well the best option is to even try another nokia charger first this will eliminate the problem.
I too use samsung charger at times and it works,my original charger is also fine.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.
Now using the Lumia 1520

  • Self rebooting Lumia 920

Recently i bought a Lumia 920. By a day after i updated it successfully. After that my Lumia reboots itself by its own. Sometimes twice a day, and some, day once. It’s around 10 days now. Please let me know what should i do.
Thanks in advance for helping me.

If your phone keeps on rebooting, you can try this: Press and hold both the Volume down and the Power keys for 15 seconds. This should get your phone to restart and respond properly again. If this does not help, please make sure that the phone runs its latest software.  Go to the Settings > Phone Updates > Check for updates.
If none of the above troubleshootings work, then we have to consider doing an OS reset.
Warning: Resetting your phone will return it to the same state it was in the first time you turned it on. All your personal content in the phone, including text messages and apps that you been purchased and downloaded (may be re-downloaded again) will be erased, and the phone will be restore to the factory settings.
Here are two options to follow, depending on whether you can access your phone's Settings screen or not.
To avoid deletion of your files, you have to do a backup.
    • For the applications, go to Settings > Backup > Applist + Settings > Backup On > Backup Now.
    • For messages, go to Settings > Backup > Text messages > Text Backup > On.
    • For your music and videos, Go to Settings > Backup > Photos / Videos > to maintain the quality of your media files, you can select Best Quality but you have to be connected to WiFi.
    Option 1: About menu
Use this option if you can access your phone's settings.
This option warns about data loss.
On the Start screen, swipe left, select Settings > About > Reset your phone.
    Option 2: Hardware key combination
Use this option if you forget or lose the password.
Use this option if the phone fails to fully switch on when pressing the power on key.
Note: No warning about data loss!
    Step 1
Make sure the charger is disconnected.
    1. Switch the power Off.
    2. Press and hold the Volume down and connect the charger, if succeed an exclamation mark (!) is shown on the screen.
    Step 2
Then input Keys in the following order:
    1. Volume up
    2. Volume down
    3. Power
    4. Volume down
    Step 3
The phone will reset and boot up automatically. Please note that this may take several minutes.

  • Lumia 920 - serious issue may have died on its own...

    Hi,
Thankyou for reading this and would really appreciate any help.
I have a Lumia 920 in black colour and it has just died on me.
    How it happened?
The phone was working just fine throughout the day. After coming back to home from work its battery was out of juice (about 5%) so I simply placed it on the wireless charging plate. Before going to bed that day I picked it from the charging plate, with battery charged to almost 98%, and placed it on my bedside table since I have set the morning alarm on my Lumia. In the morning there was no alarm and the phone was dead.
What is happening with the Phone?
    * It will not turn on with the power button.
    * Once plugged in via USB charger or connected to a PC/Laptop via USB cable the phone vibrates and displays nokia logo for 3-5 secs and then simply does blank. Then again the phone will vibrate and display nokia logo and then again goes blank. This loop would go on and on till the USB cable remains connected with the phone.
    * Lumia would not go beyond the nokia logo to display the initial WP8 OS blue screen.
    * When Lumia is placed on the wireless charging pad the battery appears to take the charge from the plate. It feels slightly warm after 20-30 appears of charge, as it normally would. However whilst on charging plate it will not show any Nokia logo or vibrate. It just remains blank and keeps charging itself.
What have I tried so far?
    * I have tried the soft reset by pressing vol- + Power button during various scenarios, including when the phone is off and when its displaying Nokia logo while connected to USB cable.
    * I have tried hard reset by pressing Vol-+Power+Cam Button, but nothing happens.
    * I have tried to connect it to my laptop so that I can reflash it with the latest firmware up once connected to laptop the connection drops repeatidly making it impossible to connect the phone with then Nokia firmware updater.
    * I left it on the charging plate for 30 mins but nothing happened. the Cell kept charging itself. I removed it from the plate with the fear of burning the internals.
    * I left it connected with the wall charger for 3 hours, nothing happened.
Although the phone is under warranty, but I want to recover the phone myself before sending it for warranty claim. So somehere kindly advise of a solution.
    Thanks
    Ali

Your 3 button hard reset is incorrect. Have a look at the link below for the proper reset keystrokes.

  • Opinion on the Lumia 920

    Hello all
about a month and a half ago, I sent my broken Lumia 800 in for repair (as it was still in warranty) after owning and using it for almost 2 years. A few days later, I received a message that told me my 800 could not be fixed, and asked me if I would accept a Lumia 920 instead. Of course I was extremely happy, and gratefully accepted the offer. I should note that I did not receive any warranty of some sort with the new phone.
We are now almost 2 months further, and I have to say I am very dissapointed.
The battery first of all was not good at all. The phone couldn't last 5 hours with minimal use, even though I keep wifi and location off at all times... the device gets incredibly hot too, basically after 2 minutes of browsing my emails.
After about 2 days of owning the device, I discovered 2 dead pixels on the screen, both on a very irritating location. I could not fix them in any way.
The phone also acts rather slowly; much slower than my previous 800.
The camera is also a problem: Sometimes the screen turns a darkish green, and I have to restart the phone to get it working properply.
These are just some of the many problems I have experienced. I just wanted to get these frustrations of my chest, because I feel like I got ripped off a little by the nokia repair team... The phone wasn't in its original packaging, but in a little plastic bag... Did anyone experience something similar?
    Thanks for reading

Clearly the 920 you received is not performing properly. In your place I would just take it back to the repair facility to have it checked out and repaired or replaced. If you wish to try some troubleshooting on your own you can start with resetting the phone from settings > about > reset my phone. This will wipe all data and settings from your phone, so please back up all you need before resetting. If the reset does not help, you can try a full complete firmware reinstall using the Software Recovery Tool on a PC. If you still have problems after that your remaining option is back to the repair centre. In any case, these methods will not fix the dead pixels. as they are a hardware fault.

  • How to create Playlists on Lumia 920

Its very annoy that i cannot create my own music playlist on lumia 920. can some one help me in creating my own playlists?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks Gary for your reply, But its all hell process. previously i have samsung galaxy phone its very easy to create playlists of songs that i like. Nokia or windows sucks..... i am getting all unwanted songs when i added songs to add now playing and worst thing is i cannot delete unwanted songs from the playlist. Its all mess. and the worst thing is the volume control it is same for music and ringtone, if we reduce the sound while listening to songs it reduces the volume of the phone ringtone which leads to missed calls.

  • Is a USA bought Unlocked Lumia 920 fully compatabl...

Hi I live in Ireland and was thinking of buying a new unopened and Unlocked Lumia 920 via an internet shop in the US the price is good and tempting but I was wondering if it would work fully in UK and Ireland. Also being an unlocked phone would it have the exact same Specifications as an Irish bought unlocked Lumia 920.
    Thank you
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I received an unlocked US Lumia 920 recently and whilst it fully worked on 2G and 3G I noticed the following issues:
    1. Very few language options for the system, it didn't have UK English, only US and a few other non-English languages. The keyboard could be set to UK English.
    2. Even when on 3G the signal showed as 4G.
    3. No European warranty or repair support so if it breaks or dies you are on your own unless the retailer provides a warranty.
    4. AT&T logo printed on the top of the screen and AT&T boot logo as all US models are AT&T models.
I passed the US model on to a friend and stuck with my UK model instead.

  • Unreliable call notifications on Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8

[Topic title updated by moderator to better reflect the discussion topic]
My wife and I both own the Lumia 920 with the latest Windows Phone 8 update (GDR2/Lumia Amber). We have installed Skype on each handset. We are signed into the app and into our Live accounts. I used her phone and Skyped my phone. Nothing happened. Though her Skype app showed my phone to be "ringing," my phone in fact never gave any indication that a call was trying to come in. There was also no notification on the lockscreen, though I enabled that feature on my phone's settings.
I went into the Skype app and looked under its settings, but all I find are toggles to turn on Skype and Messenger messages, both of which are on. I know that I'm missing something. I checked Background Tasks on the handset. Skype doesn't show up on the list of blocked apps. But neither does it show up as "allowed." When I go into Background Tasks > Advanced, there is a list of grayed-out items that I "may not be able to block," and Skype is on that list. But I can find no option to manually permit it.
How do I know when someone is Skyping me?
    Thanks!

It's been over a month since my first post and providing the Skype team with details for them to troubleshoot, still no word from them. I have almost all the issues that you would find online about Skype and nothing they said is fixed works for me. I have since tested on my iPad 2 (iOS 7) as well, same story and having multiple devices made it even worse. I don't get sound when text notifications arrive on my iPad, just on-screen alerts (yes, Skype notifications have been set to play sound). Calls only show up as missed calls after the fact, just like my WP8. Skype was unresponsive when I tried to pick up a text notification on the iPad and I had to switch over to my WP8, just to have my first failed reply using the iPad pop up the next day on my PC. What's even funnier was the other side received this "first" response 5 or 6 hours before I saw it on my side and his response to that didn't get to me until 7 hours later when the real conversation concluded the night before. The multiple device sync they said they fixed back in the Feb release isn't working either. I would be texting away on the iPad and my phone sitting right next to me would be pinging away with notifications. So much for only sending notifications to the active device. Maybe they're pinging my phone to compensate for the soundless iOS? Even something simple as emoticons is messed up. I've received them as code on my PC from someone texting me from another Skype account, they've turned into little squares or code if I view the conversation on a different device from the one I used to send them originally. Profile pics of contacts appear and disappear at random. Even what you think is the most stable and functional PC version is crapping out. Statuses of my contacts are rarely current and you need to log off and log back on to trigger it to refresh. And that doesn't work 100% of the time. Renaming contacts on the PC does nothing when you view it on other devices. So my contacts who have mutliple accounts show up with the exact same name multiple times on my WP8 and iPad. I have to go into the contact details in order to tell which one is personal and which one is work. I don't think you can make it this bad if you intentionally tried. They have essentially killed two great products with one merger and pissed off both loyal Messenger and Skype users. If I didn't have contacts on Lync, which only Skype can reach when you don't have Lync at home, I would have been so gone.

  • Lumia 920 ongoing issues, very disappointed

Hi there, I am an owner of a Lumia 920 on Vodafone UK, i recieved this handset in Feb this year when it was available as an upgrade on my network.
I am very upset and disppointed with my handset...
    I am experiencing the following issues;
Random reboots when phone is idle in my pocket or making/recieving calls
When making calls I get 'call dropped' and I get messages of friends saying they cant ring me so i have to turn the phone off and on again and then all good again.
I complained to Vodafone and they said send the phone off for repair, which I reluctantly did and they somehow deduced the screen was faulty and said that was replaced and had an 'internal service' and a full firmware reflash/update..
I revieved the phone back within 3 days which I was pretty chuffed about.
Since ive had it back, which is now just going on 7 days it has rebooted again once on its own and now I have a flickering screen... I have googled this and turned off the auto brightness and I still have a flickering screen.
As I am in a 24 month contract and its been over 14 days since I had the upgrade I am pretty much stuck with this phone now.. Am I within my right to ask Vodafone to replace the phone completely or do I have to put up with sending it for repair every week?? I am even considering making such a fuss they will let me even choose another phone completely as im sick of this Lumia!

I did go in to the local vodafone store where I sent the phone back and asked about a replacement sim card and all  I got was 'nah the sim card cant cause it to reboot, all it contains is the network info etc' or something along those lines... I did read somewhere that a sim card can cause issues and since you have mentioned this as well now I think they may have fobbed me off.. ill go in again today and say Nokia them selfes have asked me to try a new sim and see what they say...

  • AT&T Lumia 920 - 2 Freezes in a few days maybe rel...

    Hello,
I've been using my AT&T Lumia 920 for 8 days. Within the first week I have had 2 freezes. Both were while using Bluetooth, but that may be coincidental.
I am not happy about these glitches as I was previously using an AT&T Lumia 900 since April, and it never had problems like this. I expect the 920 to be an upgrade in every regard.
    I am seeking:
An explanation as to the cause of these issues.
A permanent solution that will prevent these issues from recurring
The specifics of the 2 incidences are:
    First incident:
I was driving & talking on my phone with my Plantronics Voyager Bluetooth headset. I parked at BestBuy & went inside continuing my phone call. In less than 60 seconds, I realized that it seemed like the person on the other end of the phone was being too quite. So I thought maybe the call dropped. I pulled the phone out of my belt holster & found that it showed that the call was still connected. But I could hear nothing. The screen was essentially non-responsive. Within about 1 minute, my screen went black & I couldn't get the phone to do anything. I kept trying to to a soft reset like I did with my Lumia 900 a few times (power button + volume up). This didn't work (I have later learned that the Lumia 920 uses a different button combinatino (power button + volume down). I gave up using my phone & asked the Geek Squad boys if I could use their phone to call my customer back to finish the discussion so that I could confirm I was purchasing the correct product for him. About 30-60 minutes later, I was still periodically trying to figure out how to get my phone to come back to life. I pressed & held two buttons (presumably power + volume down). The phone vibrated & rebooted. Thank goodness.
    Second incident:
I was traveling & dictating an email (which I'm glad that Windows Phone 8 now lets us dictate outside of TXT messages. :-). My first attempt returned no results. I then pressed the microphone button again & retry dictating. At this point, it did something unexpected (I really don't recall the exact specifics). From that point, further attempts to dictate did absolutely nothing. I then decided that I'd just type the email instead. I picked up the phone & pressed in the body of the email. The onscreen keyboard appeared. But none of the keys actually typed or did anything. At this point (of course a bit irritated), I tried to get out of the email, and realized that the phone would not really let me do anything. It displayed the empty email and gave me a flashing cursor, but no buttons or keys would do anything. It was like they were all being ignored by the phone. Then I had this though.... After my previous lock-up, I had read a little bit online that some Lumia 920 users had experienced lock ups when using bluetooth. So I thought, maybe if I power off my bluetooth headset, the phone will break the bluetooth connection & maybe will release control of the phone back to me. So I powered off my bluetooth headset. Sure enough, the phone immediately returned to normal (although it did first quickly make a couple of sounds & display regarding the dictation [like basically the last time I pressed the microphone button, dictation wasn't able to come up, so now it finally did come up & then went away again all within about 1 second]). After powering off the bluetooth headset, my phone has been fine. No need to reboot. A few days have passed with no more issues.
    So in summary:
Is there a problem with the phone's bluetooth support?
Is there a problem with my headset (I don't think so, it works on other phones just fine, and it works on this phone 98% of the time without problems)?
Who is going to fix the bluetooth problems & when (Nokia or Microsoft)?
Can they be fixed, or are they problems inherent with the phone's bluetooth chip which are irreparable?
Is there any sense in me going back to the AT&T store & swapping for another Lumia 920? (I don't think so. Seems like most everything else with the phone works well [I've had a few other isolated incidents with other things, but so far I've written them off as software glitches that Microsoft or Nokia will fix with time]).
Who should I be reporting this issue to (AT&T? Nokia? Microsoft?)? What is the correct support channel to get the issue resolved most quickly? (I am very willing to work with a competent tech support person to troubleshoot & track the issue over time if necessary in order to help facilitate identifying the root cause of the issue so that a proper permanent fix can be implemented by Nokia or Microsoft.
Have any other users experienced this same problem?
Thanks for your time in reviewing my issue. I have been very excited & enthusiastic about the Lumia 920 & Windows Phone 8. I have tried to promote it with my friends and family. However, when I hit an issue like this which didn't exist on my Lumia 900, I find myself feeling a bit embarassed & frustrated.
By the way, to my knowledge I didn't have any other programs running on my phone during either of these incidents (definitely nothing else running in the foreground).
    Sincerely,
    Doug Mortensen

Don't expect support here. Nokia does not bother to pay a tech or two to support the people who have bought the 920. Not really a point to these forums.
Anyways, i have huge bt issues as well. Cannot connect or see my jawbone. In truck with pioneer nav system (it is illegal here to use a phone without handsfree in vehicle) it links, but when i make a call or receive a call it shows the phone off the receiver icon so it knows call in progress, but i either get no sound from the caller... at all, or i get a robotic mess i cannot decipher. when i cannot hear anything, people can hear me, but when i hear robotic, people can hear me but with distortion. However, when it reads a text message, the phone voice is fine through the system. Because i have to turn bt off then to use phone, i have to return this handset and just go back to android.
Have also had this drop calls a few times now as reception is probably the worst i have seen in a decade... even drops in downtown core. Battery life poor because i assume its always struggling for a signal.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 India Launch ! - Some Observations...

    Hi,
Being a Nokia fan for years .. I decided to write this .. I hope people at the right level from Nokia see this.
We all know Nokia Lumia 920 has probably hit all the right spots with Users abroad and the best thing is they are loving it a lot. I probably would like to be one of them soon.
    However I have certain concerns,
When Nokia launced Lumia in India people had high hopes including myself however one thing that I have always found going wrong is the 'PRICING' .. yes such insanely high pricing at launch .. why ? Look at the pricing of Lumia 800 at launch (around 33k) . Look at the pricing of Lumia 900 still (31k) ? .. Lumia 800 now sells around at the price of 19k !! - almost a 40% drop in price.
The basic thinking in the minds of people including me is 'Don't buy a Nokia phone immediately on launch !!'. Why can't this be changed ? - Yes everybody wants to earn profits but in a situation wherein you are more in search for Mindshare .. This does not make sense. Obviously I am no one to teach anybody anything but this is what I feel & what I have felt for years.
If I buy a Nokia Lumia 920 at launch only to find that after 3 months the pricing has come down by 3-5k .. I will not be a Happy Consumer.
Nokia - Launch Lumia 920 at a very competitive price (so that the likes of SGS3 & HTC 8x will feel ashamed) .. Arrive at a price & keep it steady for real long so that the initial adopters are happy & others come to know that Nokia's pricing is real good and will stay that way for long.
Nokia's Lumia are pretty good phones .. they never lag when compared to Android etc however they have not been well received by people here in India. The most common answer that I get is 'Bluetooth not there - can't transfer files' , 'Can't use memory card ' & 'Apps not available'.
Nokia - you have to change this mindset of people because with Windows Phone 8 these things are no longer hindrances ! .. especially Bluetooth & Micro-sd support.
I am expecting your Ads to have this .. be it on Radio or TV or Internet.
Can we have right people on the Job ? - Recently I went to Hypercity Mall (in Mumbai) (Nokia booth). I took in my hand a Lumia 510. I asked how much RAM ? .. to my surprise he answered 512 Mb .. and I was like What ? I asked him to recheck - still the same answer. He said we have confirmed. The phone actually comes with 256 Mb of RAM.
Now imagine what happens to a consumer who brought this phone from him ?
Nokia - Please get the right people at task for Nokia Lumia 920 & 820 because there you have got some real innovations like PureView, OIS, Wireless Charging etc. Ensure that users get the right demo of all the innovations. First impression will be the Last impression.
At Malls (without Nokia booths), the 2 phones Lumia 800 & Lumia 710 lonely guard the booths .. with rarely anybody there to explain about them. Just on the side of it I find Samsung's booth with all the latest flagships standing there & probably someone to explain about it - however Android needs no explanation these days will all aware about it (& even if not aware they know a phone with it is Cool!).
Nokia - Please set your own booths for Lumia (both WP8 & WP7) & assign one of your Guys per Booth. I really don't know the dynamics of setting up booth at a mall & the financial impact of it. All you need to do is differentiate your Lumia's from others.
Alternatively you can have a Lumia Van (or Lumia Vans) running around the City with all the possible Lumia's on it for doing Demo's. All Lumia's - since a person can come up to check a Lumia 510 too & not having a specific Lumia means Dissatisfaction for the user.
Nokia Lumia 920,820 & 620 are gem of a phones .. Hope everything is done right with them in a price sensitive market like India & I hope that Nokia you are listening to a User's opinion here.
Here's someone who wishes real good things for Nokia. Good luck with the launch of Nokia Lumia 920, 820 & 620. Desperately waiting !!

    Hi slon!
    Welcome to Nokia Forum!
Let me answer your question in the same manner you have presented it.
    1. How can I configure networking option for individual application (it was standard option before, see N8)
    - Can you tell me which particular application/s you are referring to? The phone prioritizes WLAN connection over 3G to ensure quality customer experience.
Example: Nokia Maps - when downloading map data, it would require you to use WLAN as phone would require high amount of data.
    2. Where can I find the option like: Automatic, Always ask, WLAN only when using access to data connection
    - These options are not available on the device. However, you can find some settings that are similar to what you are looking for:
Settings>Wifi>Tap on Advanced> you will have the following options:
Notify me when new networks are found
    Automatically connect to Wi-Fi hotspots
Send information about Wi-Fi connections to help discover nearby Wi-Fi
Keep Wi-Fi on when the screen times out

  • ITunes Mac launches on its own - interferes with Magicjack and Airport

I have a headless Mac Mini 2010 which I occasionally hook up to my HD-TV that occasionally will launch on its own iTunes a short period after boot. Temporarily I've had to stop this action by compressing the application into an archive.   We are running Mac OS X 10.6.8.  As soon as iTunes launches, the airport connection from the Mac Mini disappears, and the Magicjack software goes in the background and my Magicjack connection then dies.  It happens at random, and I can't figure out why.
I upgraded to Airport firmware 7.6 on my Airport Extreme base station, and that didn't help.  But it seems it stays connected always when there is a keyboard connected, but once I remove it, that connection dies after a few calls.  Zapping the PRAM may have helped for now, and then immediately after removing the keyboard and mouse.   Lately it is working fine, so I don't want to mess with it, but anyone know why iTunes would launch on its own even when the helper is not listed in the Login Items?
When I've played around with it, the Airport won't accept my WPA2 password on the Mac  Mini even though I'm careful with the password case, and username, and other computers on the airport are working fine.  And yes, I disabled all the Bluetooth settings for looking for a keyboard when it is not connected, and the iTunes launching still happens.  I would like to leave iTunes unarchived on the machine so I can use the iTunes sharing to connect to my HDTV occasionally since my original AppleTV doesn't work reliably with it either.  I only want to connect a keyboard and mouse when I connect to my HDTV, but then otherwise leave those disconnected and it not interfere with my Magicjack.
If someone can help me find a way to leave iTunes unarchived, while keeping my Magicjack always up, and my Airport connection never dying that would be great!   Thank you.

Upeace, it's so long ago I can't remember now… But I do know that my newer MBP's volume can be affected by someone tinkering with the Apple TV remote. Is that a possibility? If so you can turn this off in System Preferences. It's not at all easy to find though—you have to go into 'Security Privacy > Firewall > Advanced' and then tick 'Disable remote control infrared receiver'.

  • Discovered cause of Battery Drain lumia 920/820

    Hi,
I just registered to tell you following:
I discovered the culprit that is responsible for the "semi random" battery drain.
@Home my Lumia 820 "shines" with a good battery life.
    @Work:
    - without any additional Installed app
    - no active background task (except standard entries: "extras+info" and Nokia Music)
    - every (backround)sync disabled (mail, also xbox, music.....)
    - display low
    - disabled location service
    - closing all apps with multiple clicks on back-button
    - uninstalled skype
    - disabled apps @ lockscreen
    - battery saver on
    - backup disabled
    - nfc disabled
    - microsoft account sync only 1x per day
    - disabled roaming (my provider is a roaming monster :-) roams into networks of other providers).
    - 2x fully discharged + fully charged + 12 hours on powersupply
    - and every other suggested energysave option/action i could find on internet and here in forum -> except hardreset
With all above mentioned methods the battery still gets/got literally eaten away at work in IDLE.
I had it next to me with monitor off. Only checked once per hour and it died in ~8-11 hours. No call no message no nothing.
I was curious why it only happens at work: The difference of the network coverage is, that at home it is far more inferior. I have to search for a spot in my house where i can use it for calling somebody.
So Internet is not even an option (also no HSPA+ coverage throughout the village). Normally you would have less battery life at places with less connectivity. But not in that case.
I investigated further: on the way to work I use it for surfing ~50min - 1hour -> there i loose 7-9% of my battery. (very good result for driving with car => many connection losses)
As soon as I reach the city where the Lumia reaches the HSPA+ network it begins to drain veery fast.
HSPA+ needs much more power than UMTS and I guess normal HSPA!
I compared the behaviour with the Samsung Galaxy S3 (colleague's phone) and noticed a small but profound difference:
After you "wake" the S3 from idle it will show on the screen, that it uses UMTS and not HSPA/HSPA+... as soon as you start surfing or start an app that connects to the internet the S3 switches immediately to HSPA+. After a little time the Samsung switches back to UMTS.
The lumia behaves differently: It detects HSPA+ and uses it. Also in idle!?
I followed this obvious lead and wanted to disable HSPA/HSPA+ -> unfortunately it only lets you disable 3g as a whole (UMTS/HSPA) so I switched to 2G only.
While I am writing this my L820 is unplugged 6hours now and
after much heavier use than normal (mailing, surfing with 3g while driving 45min home [which dropped the charging-level multiple times faster than gaming!], 1h gaming, 10 minutes calling)
the remaining battery life is at 70% with estimated time remaining: 1day 7hours left (after writing the whole story it went up to 2days 4hours with 69%... but i guess thats because its idleing).
This behaviour is also the explanation why some people are affected and some aren't.
Summary of change: from initially 8hours idle and not even touching the phone -> to finally using it now with 70% after 6hours with 1day 7hours time remaining.
Additional info: I live in Austria (Europe; no kangaroos ;-)) --> so I have a Lumia 820 with the german firmware without the update, which was released in USA and Canada:
    Revision: 1232.2109.1242.1001
So please implement a similar function like the Samsung S3 ... or just as a start: let us manually turn off UMTS, HSPA and HSPA+ separately! Surfing with 2g is no fun.
Sorry for the extensive and long story/facts ;-)
    Regards

I can confirm that my battery drain problem is related to LTE  on my US Lumia 920, at home where signal is weak I get fantastic battery life, less than 2% drain an hour, lasts for well over a day with moderate usage. My work however is located in an LTE zone and as soon as I enter this area battery life becomes catastrophically bad, several times the phone has died on me before my shift even ends. Something like 15% drain per hour, sometimes worse., I pick up my phone and even though it has been completely idle for hours it is a bit warm to the touch. I have no idea what it is doing when it is just sitting there.
Trust me, I have tried all the tips from all the other users, none have worked. This is not a problem with background applications or some feature being switched on, I have tested this phone running bare bones no apps or a fully day on "battery saver" mode which seems to make no difference, the problem persists. The only way I can make it through the workday is if I put my phone into Airplane Mode, the drain then completely stops, again at less than 2% an hour.
I am amazingly frustrated by all this, my Lumia 900 never had this problem with LTE, I almost never gave the battery a second thought with my 900, but with the 920 I am constantly worried about being stuck with a dead phone, I have almost no apps installed on the phone because I am afraid of any additional drain on the battery. I have to put my phone in Airplane Mode if I plan on spending more than an hour in the civilized world, I am so unhappy with my experience and I really miss my Lumia 900. I really wish Nokia would acknowledge that this a problem with some 920 handsets, and it is a problem, we are all not suffering from some sort of mass delusion. I have spent weeks troubleshooting and trying to find the cause. I really don't know what to do at this point.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 email : how to do search on all em...

    Hello all,
This is  a feature i miss from my previous iphone 4.
I have multiple email accounts linked together (hotmail, 2 google accounts) on my lumia 920 email client app. I have set all email accounts to sync emails from past one month. However when i do a search for a particular keyword (eg: barbecue) , which might be present on one or all of the email accounts, probably on or before the one month time window, the email client can search only on the hotmail server and not on the google servers.
This was a feature i enjoyed with the iphone, in that it can search on all servers (linked) for the keyword I' looking for. Am I missing some setting ? or is it a limitation of the windows phone 8 email client ? or is it a limitation for nokia lumia's implementation of the windows phone 8 email client ?
Hope someone can help me out.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Kiran Antony

  • Lumia 920, Black update, and Internet sharing not ...

I have a pair of Lumia 920s, both the developer edition given out at Microsoft Build 2012.  Both updated to Lumia Black/gddr3 yesterday without any issues, both running on AT&T.
however, on one of them, the Internet Sharing no longer works, while on the other, it still works fine.  I have swapped sim cards, and the problem stays with the one specific phone, and is not tied to the line.
I have reset and wiped the phone, and tried to reconfigure it (including reinstalling the spanish/mexico keyboard, which has solved this problem in the past).
I have checked access point configuration, and both match.  Both are running on LTE.  I'm at a loss how to get it working again, as I've been through everything that I know of to make it work.
    Any thoughts?

I have the same problem only on mobile. Keeps asking to upgrade. Its like the phone doesn't know I have this service. Or the tmo, servers do not know that my account has paid for this. Funny part is,the customer services people say they can see I,have this feature on my acct. Pls jeep me,posted if you get a fix for this

  • Nokia Lumia 920 Home button not working

I was using my phone as usual and suddenly the home button stopped working.  I was on Facebook, wanted to go to the start screen because I had just received a text message and I realized the home button was completely unresponsive.  I tried a soft and hard reset and it still doesn't work.  The button lights up as it's supposed to.  The phone hasn't been dropped or has received any major (or minor, in that case) damage.

Hello, marurokz. Are the other capacitive buttons (Search & Back) of your Lumia 920 working fine? Do you have any screen protector covering the Start button of your phone? If yes, try removing that portion for a while and see if it'll work. BTW, is your phone's SW updated? Check it by going to Settings > phone update. Keeping your Lumia 920's SW updated helps assure that all of its features are fully functional.
We'll wait for your response. BTW, welcome to the Microsoft Mobile Community!
