Lumia 920 NFC needed a reboot?

Hello,
I was trying to use tap to share to send pictures, contacts, etc. My wife & I both have an AT&T Lumia 920. We had the phones for a few days before I got around to trying this. No matter how I held the phones, I couldn't get it to work. I removed the covers we had purchased for our phones. It still wouldn't work. I turned NFC off & back on. Still the receiving phone did nothing when I attempted to share from the source phone (and this is the behavior I'm describing when I said "it didn't work" above).
Finally I powered off both phones & then powered them on, and then it worked perfectly. That was a relief to know that the phones' NFC chips do indeed work.
However, I would like to know why this even happened. I don't know whether it was a software glitch or indicative of faulty hardware. I have not yet tried to use NFC again for probably 5 days since then, so I cannot confirm whether it's been working okay since. However, it seems to me that it is rather important for NFC to work well given the tap to pay & tap to share & tap to pair functionality that is being marketed for these phones (not to mention the Galaxy S3 NFC advertizing that is really capitalizing on NFC [which most people I talk to really seem impressed with]). The phones' NFC implementation needs to be solid & not buggy.
So a few questions:
Is anyone else having this problem?
Should I start using NFC frequently to try to track whether the issue returns (this may drain my battery faster as I have NFC turned off to save battery since I'm not currently really using it, except incidentally).
Is this a hardware problem or a software problem?
Should I swap my phone out at AT&T? (I've only had it for 8 days so far)
Can Nokia confirm issues/bugs with the NFC implementation that would cause something like this, and if so, is a fix in the works, and if so, is there an ETA?
Thank you for taking the time to review my issue. I appreciate your feedback.
Sincerely,
Doug Mortensen

Hi there,
I just recieved my Lumia 920 in the mail today and I was having trouble getting the NFC to work with the little test card they send with the phone. After a few trial and errors, I realized that the screen has to be illuminated. You don't have to unlock the screen, per se, you just have to touch the lock button to activate the screen and then NFC works immediately.
Now, you may have already known this, but being that I couldn't find any literature perscribing this, I thought sharing my findinds may be helpful to you or another reader.
Cheers!

  • Lumia 920 sound crackling & random reboot

I bought my lumia 920 two days ago.
I like it.. it is very impressive.
I have some problems and I would like to understand if they are related to software or hardware.
Obviously there is the problem of the random reboot. I am pretty sure it is software related, hope Nokia will fix this soon.
The other issue is a sound crackling when a sound start, it happen after a notification, playing games and playing music... apparently it doesn't affect Nokia music app.
The problem is not the speaker because it happen also with streaming audio via a2dp.
Do you think the sound issue is a software bug and Nokia/Microsoft will fix it?
Did you have the same problem?

    it is very frustrating!
    summarizing:
    - notifications are crackling through the speaker
    - notification are not crackling through the headphone
    - in phone music is crackling through the speaker
    - in phone music is crackling through the headphone
    - streaming music is not crackling
    - metrotube videos are not crackling
    - taptitude game is not crackling (also tried other games)
    - xbox extras is crackling a lot
I don't know what to think about!
It seem a software related issue to my eyes!

  • What types of NFC tags does the Lumia 920 support?

I bought some Mifare Classic 1k tags online hoping I could write and read some custom tags with the few apps on the marketplace but it doesn't seem the Nokia interacts with them well.
    I found this on wikipedia.
"At the moment BlackBerry phones and the Nokia Lumia 610 can't read/write Tectile stickers ". (which are apparently based on Mifare Classic.)
I have found no other mention of what types of tags are supported, so that is my question. What types of tags are guaranteed to work with the 920?

I've run some NFC tests with the 920 because I run an NFC marketing platform.
I wrote a review about the Lumia 920 NFC implementation http://www.tagonic.com/latest/easyblog/entry/nokia-lumia-920
Although this doesn't cover specific NFC tags I can confirm that it works well with MiFare UL tags. The use case of receiving a contact directly, and directing to web destinations works well.
Interestingly we haven't managed to successfully initiate a pairing with other NFC accessories (BH505 headphones or the 360 Speaker) at all. We'd be interested to know if anyone else has this issue.
But from a tag perspective we are confident that the Lumia 920 works with the MiFare UL tags.
Feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you are looking for some tags that you want to program to go to a web destination. We'd supply them pre-programmed and you can virtually re-program them using the platform as opposed to having to physically re-write the tags.

  • Will lumia 920 work with any NFC Speakers?

will lumia 920 work with any NFC Speakers? If not how can I tell which nfc speakers work with my phone before I buy?

    Hello, Cwall.
Thank you for posting and welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions.
Yes. The Lumia 920 will work with an NFC speaker. Please see this to see compatible NFC speakers for your phone: http://www.nokia.com/global/products/accessories/?action=accessorysearch&product=1805904.

  • Lumia 920 reboots and my voice in phone calls are ...

    Hi,
I received my Lumia 920 yesterday and experienced these errors right away:
    1. When I'm in a call, the person I talk to can't hear me. Instead it is metallic or bubbling sounds when I talk. From time to time, it is possible to have a conversation for a couple of seconds, but then the weird sounds starts again.
    2. The phone reboots by itself every now and then.
    3. I can see that the coverage disapears sometimes in the top left corner.
If I call with VoIP (Lync 2013 app) there are no audio problems.
I have been in contact with my carrier (Telia, Sweden) and have got a new SIM-card, but the problems persists.
I have also tried to change Max Connection speed to 2G which seemed to help at first, but then the phone just started to reboot over and over when I tried to call.
I have also tried to reset the phone to factory defalt, but the problem persists.
The audio problems persists regardless if I'm using the headset shipped with the phone or a bluetooth headset from Jabra.

    Hi,
Since you mentioned that you already reset the phone to its factory default it would be better if you're going to visit any local Nokia Care point. I belive the problem that you have will fall under hardware issue. It has something to do with the Microphone.
Just to make sure, you can also try to perform a software update. If it will not work, visit a local Nokia Care point so technician can evaluate your phone.

  • Self rebooting Lumia 920

Recently i bought a Lumia 920. By a day after i updated it successfully. After that my Lumia reboots itself by its own. Sometimes twice a day, and some, day once. It’s around 10 days now. Please let me know what should i do.
Thanks in advance for helping me.

If your phone keeps on rebooting, you can try this: Press and hold both the Volume down and the Power keys for 15 seconds. This should get your phone to restart and respond properly again. If this does not help, please make sure that the phone runs its latest software.  Go to the Settings > Phone Updates > Check for updates.
If none of the above troubleshootings work, then we have to consider doing an OS reset.
Warning: Resetting your phone will return it to the same state it was in the first time you turned it on. All your personal content in the phone, including text messages and apps that you been purchased and downloaded (may be re-downloaded again) will be erased, and the phone will be restore to the factory settings.
Here are two options to follow, depending on whether you can access your phone's Settings screen or not.
To avoid deletion of your files, you have to do a backup.
    • For the applications, go to Settings > Backup > Applist + Settings > Backup On > Backup Now.
    • For messages, go to Settings > Backup > Text messages > Text Backup > On.
    • For your music and videos, Go to Settings > Backup > Photos / Videos > to maintain the quality of your media files, you can select Best Quality but you have to be connected to WiFi.
    Option 1: About menu
Use this option if you can access your phone's settings.
This option warns about data loss.
On the Start screen, swipe left, select Settings > About > Reset your phone.
    Option 2: Hardware key combination
Use this option if you forget or lose the password.
Use this option if the phone fails to fully switch on when pressing the power on key.
Note: No warning about data loss!
    Step 1
Make sure the charger is disconnected.
    1. Switch the power Off.
    2. Press and hold the Volume down and connect the charger, if succeed an exclamation mark (!) is shown on the screen.
    Step 2
Then input Keys in the following order:
    1. Volume up
    2. Volume down
    3. Power
    4. Volume down
    Step 3
The phone will reset and boot up automatically. Please note that this may take several minutes.

  • Lumia 920 Rebooting itself

    Hi,
I hope someone may help me here, i got a Yellow Lumia 920 beginning April. Everything was ok then suddenly it would reboot for no apparent reason, one evening alone SIX reboots in an hour!
I sent to Vodafone repair, apparently they couldnt find anything wrong. They stated they'd flashed the firmware and os to the latest edition.
Unfortunately it came back from repair with a crack in screen so got sent away again.  It's now back, new screen and casing, flashed to apparently up to date software.....last night it rebooted itself again...
What can be done about this???

Have you tried if the phone reboots without SIM? if not I'd suggest getting a new SIM especially if you cut your SIM down to mini format yourself.
Click on the blue Star Icon below if my advice has helped you or press the 'Accept As Solution' link if I solved your problem..

  • Lumia 920 Randomly Reboots / Cannot Be Turned Off

    Hello,
I have just bought a Lumia 920 today, and now have the problems described in the thread subject... Every few minutes while idle, the phone will power down and immediately power up again. This does render the phone useless to me...
When trying to shut it down to remove the SIM card I noticed I cannot even shut it off. It would instantly turn itself back on again.
Did anyone else notice this kind of behaviour from their Lumia 920 (or maybe other phones as well)? I was really looking forward to this device and this really ruins it for me
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Same thing on my Lumia 920 unit from ATT, received just today via online purchase. Began resetting within 30 minutes, and continues to do so, especially in places like voicemail and phone functions. Also fails to register initial settings like search engine (on every reset, goes back to Bing instead of Google) and other things I've had to re-configure 3 or 4 times. It took about four tries to get a Texas map database to download, despite using a home wi-fi right next to the wireless router.
I don't think this is a SIM problem at all, because the rests don't always take place in the phone section. And I've even turned the cell phone data feature off, and still the reboots. It MAY be the micro-USB connector, because since I've been charging the phone while initializing it, the resets happen with it inserted. But this is also the data cable, so if the unit resets all the time while moving huge chunks of desktop data, then it is useless. If the micro-USB connector is that rickety, more trouble is down the road.
This is a real shame, becuase I like the phone and was ready to switch from iPhone. Now I'm stuck with something I have to send back and try to get my old iPhone to work again, so at least I'll have some cell phone calls.
About eight hours of my time loading music, getting familiar, and configuring for my home desktop windows 8. If my Windows 8 desktop rebooted my machine eight times in only a few hours of initial usage, I'd be going back to old desktop as well.
Again, very sad, because this seemed to be a great phone with great features at a low-low price. I guess when it seems too good to be true, it is. iPhone may be falling behind in some ways, but at least it's been a reliable phone for three years.
Lucky I have 14 days money back, return to old phone, no questions asked. But it took less than half a day to figure out the phone didn't work.
About the only possible fix would be some firmware upgrade promised to fix it permanently, but they had better make a big deal about publicizing, or have a million returns on their hands.

  • Lumia 920 random reboots and dropped mobile data a...

Hi! Wondering if anyone can shed some light on an issue I'm seeing with TWO Lumia 920 handsets?
Both were recently wiped for new users - full "reset your phone" option. After installing the Black update, the phones now randomly reset and reboot. In addition, they cannot seem to hold onto a data connection (either GPRS, 3G or H) - the mobile data connection works when the phone is first boot up, but loses connectivity some time later. Mobile data isn't restored unless the phone is turned off and on again. Totally scratching my head on this - and as it affects two phones, I'm pretty sure it isn't a faulty handset. Steps I've tried:
Swapping SIM cards around (including SIMS not associated with those two handsets)
Manually setting APN details (we're on Orange - also EE)
Installing Access Point app (which isn't installed as standard) for auto-configuration of APN
Toggling between 4G and 3G maximum connection speed settings
Manually selecting mobile network (i.e. disabling automatic network selection)
Wiping and resetting both phones (multiple times)
Installing fresh firmware image via the Nokia Software Recovery Tool
All these don't help! Frustratingly, everything works fine over WiFi - and I have observed that the random reboots only occur when data is being transmitted over mobile network. Both handsets belong to Orange UK (EE), and are updated with EE's approved Black firmware...
Anyone seen anything similar? Anyone come across a fix?!?

    b) Playlist functionality... the N8 was just updated with a beautiful music app can u please have something like that for nokia music app.
    c) Music player doesn;t support equaliser my e71,5800,n8 can do i why cant lumia do it ?
    d) please provide nokia internet radio for Lumia ... no good internet radio app available...
    e) what about the screen saver with clock date info.. that should be a easy fix for Nokia can u please lets have it
    f) Bluetooth on phone is not detected by my portable music player it can detect N8 though why ? is it a bug?
    g) can u please add the photo and video editors to Lumia store under Nokia App.
    h) Can u please introduce Nokia bubbles...
    i) Also the Nokia Sleeping screen...
    j) How to enable nokia offfline maps ?
    k) I am in US not able to get free unlimited songs are promoted on website.
    l) Also add a good video tutorial in the phone like u had for 5800 XM or at least good help like in N8...
    m) can we have the drag down menu from all screens like new N8 fix which provides control for bluetooth,WIFI, mobile data, silent mode...and also NFC...
NFC is cool the data transfer of foto happened in seconds... please market this .
    n) SWYPE is missing.. can u add that.
    o) also on my 5800 and N8 there were a few songs and Videos that came with phone why noting in Lumia...
    p) Does  it support USB on the go ?
    q) why no SD card external slot..
These are a few things which will make Nokia standout from the rest of the sheeps in the market.
I love nokia. In our company they were talking about using Windows phone it could be NOKIA as integration is easier with Desktop.
by giving users a difffernt BETTER experience like SYMBIAN   Nokia can make a good comeback.

called customer service got transferred to Manila>Philliphines they didnt know the answers...

    a) Profile- Normal/silent/Meeting/Custom were missing. is there a plan to enable it ?
AGREE WITH YOU HERE.  THERE IS JUST RING AND VIBRATE/RING/VIBRATE/SILENT   CURRENTLY ALL THE OPTIONS WE HAD WITH SYMBIAN ARE NOT AVAILABLE ON THE WINDOWSPHONE 8, WHICH IS NOT NECESSARILY A NOKIA CHALLENGE, BUT A WP8 CHALLENGE
i understand that, this is where nokia could provide a app like nokia Situations and a Nokia profile which would make it stand out in the crowd
    b) Playlist functionality... the N8 was just updated with a beautiful music app can u please have something like that for nokia music app.
NOT SURE ABOUT THE LATEST NOKIA MUSIC APPLICATION ON SYMBIAN FOR THE N8, BUT THE NOKIA MUSIC ON THE LUMIA IS GREAT.  AND IF YOU ARE IN THE USA, IT IS FREE.
I am waiting for the Customer service call back i have scheduled a call will check what they say. i dont want to reset phone. it messes up . doesnt work like new then. i have had issues in past
    c) Music player doesn;t support equaliser my e71,5800,n8 can do i why cant lumia do it ?
THERE IS AN EQUALIZER ON THE 920, BUT IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE ACTIVATED, YOU HAVE TO USE A WIRED HEADSET CURRENTLY. EVEN ON BLUETOOTH, IT IS NOT ACTIVATED.  I HOPE THAT THERE IS A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO FIX THIS AS WELL.
Lets see what does Nokia do with it... if they fix it like they fixed the signal problem last April
    d) please provide nokia internet radio for Lumia ... no good internet radio app available...
    e) what about the screen saver with clock date info.. that should be a easy fix for Nokia can u please lets have it
CURRENTLY A LIMITION, ONCE AGAIN OF THE WP8 OS.  I TOO, HOPE THAT NOKIA CAN MAKE THAT A "UNIQUE" OPTION TO FURTHER DIFFERENTIATE ITSELF FROM ITS "COMPETITORS" ALSO SELLING WP8 DEVICES.  I HAVE TO SAY, THIS I REALLY, REALLY MISS FROM MY N9.
    f) Bluetooth on phone is not detected by my portable music player it can detect N8 though why ? is it a bug?
BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE BT TURNED ON.  OTHER THAN THAT, IT WOULD PROBABLY DEPEND ON THE MUSIC PLAYER. WHICH I AM GUESSING THAT IS SOME TYPE OF SPEAKER BOX?
if it works with N8 that would mean the music players supports bluetooth. not sure What 920 is missing i read with WP8 there were file transfer issues. The music player is a portable bose music stand...
    g) can u please add the photo and video editors to Lumia store under Nokia App.
    h) Can u please introduce Nokia bubbles...
    O o O o oo OO...
    i) Also the Nokia Sleeping screen...
NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN BY THE NOKIA SLEEPING SCREEN, BUT IF YOU MEAN THE LOW POWER SCREEN, AGREED, BUT NOT THERE.
No Sleeping screen is where you have beautiful screen image simulation check link below
    http://store.ovi.com/content/212990
    j) How to enable nokia offfline maps ?
FIRST YOU WILL WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE MAPS FOR THE AREAS THAT YOU ARE GOING TO WANT TO VISIT.
I installed the maps i still get message u are not online , went online the system understood i had map then it says it can work offline.. didnt have this issue with N8. the GPS in Lumia and map app seem faster though..
OPEN NOKIA DRIVE/MENU/CONNECTION/TURN TO OFF FOR OFFLINE USAGE
    k) I am in US not able to get free unlimited songs are promoted on website.
I AM IN THE USA AS WELL.   SEEMS TO WORK SWELL HERE.  OPEN THE NOKIA MUSIC AND SEARCH, JUST LIKE PANDORA.  MAYBE CHECK YOUR LANGUAGE SETTINGS TO BE SURE THAT ALL OF THEM ARE SET TO UNITED STATES.  I HAD THIS ISSUE IN THE BEGINING.  THEN REBOOT.
I checked i dont see option in nokia music app. see N8 it has tabbed playlist/artist view. that looked cool to me
    l) Also add a good video tutorial in the phone like u had for 5800 XM or at least good help like in N8...
...I THINK THAT FOR THE WORK THAT GOES INTO IT...AND MOST PEOPLE JUST DELETE IT OR NEVER VIEW IT....NOT NECESSARY.  KIND OF LIKE INCLUDING A MANUAL THESE DAYS.
Yes but thats what made Nokia stand out from Appy and Sammy lets not loose the good work already put it.
    m) can we have the drag down menu from all screens like new N8 fix which provides control for bluetooth,WIFI, mobile data, silent mode...and also NFC...
NO DRAG DOWN, BUT I UNDERSTAND YOUR FRUSTRATION.   THERE IS A CONNECTIONSAPPLICATION IN THE STORE THAT WORKS WELL THAT YOU CAN PIN INDIVIDUAL NEEDS TO YOUR SCREEN.
The nokia shortcut were much better i could just click to switch on switch off. the more i think about it the more i like N8 and think why did i go for something else...
NFC is cool the data transfer of foto happened in seconds... please market this .
YES!!!  BUT I THINK THE INDUSTRY IS NOT GOING TO ADOPT THE NOKIA "NFC" TAG AND INSTEAD ARE GOING TO USE THE TAP TO SEND TYPE OF VERGIAGE AS THE SAMSUNG DEVICES USE THE SAME LANGUAGE THERE.
Industry is crazy they didnt heed even to SIM sugggestions by Nokia but if u have money u have power.. Knowledge and exp dont count these days. Nokia productts are safer robust i always stand by them Hope it becomes leader again and we get Phones like N8 symbian again with looooottttts of good functioanlity.
    n) SWYPE is missing.. can u add that.
AND THE CONGREGATION SAID IN SYNC....AAAAAAAAWWWWMMMMMEEEEEEEEEN!
THERE IS A SWYPE APPLICATION IN THE STORE BUT THE IMPLEMENTATION IS REALLY QUITE POOR. I REALLY MISS THIS FROM MY ANDROID, SYMBIAN AND MEEGO DEVICES.  I HOPE THERE WILL BE ENOUGH PRESSURE THAT MICROSOFT INCORPORATES IT.
AS FOR THE APPLE USERS, MOST DONT EVEN KNOW IT IS AVAILABLE TO USE, AND UNTIL APPLE INVENTS IT, THERE IS NO OTHER COMPETITOR TO FORCE IT.  I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO SEND A MESSAGE TO WP8 TEAM FROM MICROSOFT.
    o) also on my 5800 and N8 there were a few songs and Videos that came with phone why noting in Lumia...
    p) Does  it support USB on the go ?
NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN BY USB ON THE GO, BUT YOU CAN CONNECT TO A PC ON WP8 AND STILL HAVE ACCESS TO THE OPEN PARTITIION ON THE DEIVCE THAT YOU CAN TRANSFER SONGS, VIDEOS, PICTURES, AND RINGTONES TO.
    check the link below
    http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/30/nokia-n8s-usb-on-the-go-support-demoed-lesser-phones-turned-in/
    q) why no SD card external slot..
...CLOUD!  VERY FEW DEVICES COMING OUT NOW ARE INCLUDING THIS OPTION AND IT IS MISSED.  BUT THE CLOUD IS YOUR FRIEND, ESPECIALLY AS THE SPEEDS GET FASTER AND FASTER TO CONNECT TO IT.
but thats where i need a bigger data plan and pay more dollars later, SD card is better i think Sammy and HTC have it
called customer service got transferred to Manila>Philliphines they didnt know the answers...
THAT IS SEEMINGLY ALWAYS THE CASE.  YOU GET BETTER AND FASTER CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM THE CUSTOMERS....HERE ON THE BOARD.
    HOPE ALL THIS HELPED YOU.
BTW...YOUR MESSAGE WILL MOST LIKELY BE MODERATED FOR INCLUDING YOUR EMAIL.

  • AT&T Lumia 920 - 2 Freezes in a few days maybe rel...

    Hello,
I've been using my AT&T Lumia 920 for 8 days. Within the first week I have had 2 freezes. Both were while using Bluetooth, but that may be coincidental.
I am not happy about these glitches as I was previously using an AT&T Lumia 900 since April, and it never had problems like this. I expect the 920 to be an upgrade in every regard.
    I am seeking:
An explanation as to the cause of these issues.
A permanent solution that will prevent these issues from recurring
The specifics of the 2 incidences are:
    First incident:
I was driving & talking on my phone with my Plantronics Voyager Bluetooth headset. I parked at BestBuy & went inside continuing my phone call. In less than 60 seconds, I realized that it seemed like the person on the other end of the phone was being too quite. So I thought maybe the call dropped. I pulled the phone out of my belt holster & found that it showed that the call was still connected. But I could hear nothing. The screen was essentially non-responsive. Within about 1 minute, my screen went black & I couldn't get the phone to do anything. I kept trying to to a soft reset like I did with my Lumia 900 a few times (power button + volume up). This didn't work (I have later learned that the Lumia 920 uses a different button combinatino (power button + volume down). I gave up using my phone & asked the Geek Squad boys if I could use their phone to call my customer back to finish the discussion so that I could confirm I was purchasing the correct product for him. About 30-60 minutes later, I was still periodically trying to figure out how to get my phone to come back to life. I pressed & held two buttons (presumably power + volume down). The phone vibrated & rebooted. Thank goodness.
    Second incident:
I was traveling & dictating an email (which I'm glad that Windows Phone 8 now lets us dictate outside of TXT messages. :-). My first attempt returned no results. I then pressed the microphone button again & retry dictating. At this point, it did something unexpected (I really don't recall the exact specifics). From that point, further attempts to dictate did absolutely nothing. I then decided that I'd just type the email instead. I picked up the phone & pressed in the body of the email. The onscreen keyboard appeared. But none of the keys actually typed or did anything. At this point (of course a bit irritated), I tried to get out of the email, and realized that the phone would not really let me do anything. It displayed the empty email and gave me a flashing cursor, but no buttons or keys would do anything. It was like they were all being ignored by the phone. Then I had this though.... After my previous lock-up, I had read a little bit online that some Lumia 920 users had experienced lock ups when using bluetooth. So I thought, maybe if I power off my bluetooth headset, the phone will break the bluetooth connection & maybe will release control of the phone back to me. So I powered off my bluetooth headset. Sure enough, the phone immediately returned to normal (although it did first quickly make a couple of sounds & display regarding the dictation [like basically the last time I pressed the microphone button, dictation wasn't able to come up, so now it finally did come up & then went away again all within about 1 second]). After powering off the bluetooth headset, my phone has been fine. No need to reboot. A few days have passed with no more issues.
    So in summary:
Is there a problem with the phone's bluetooth support?
Is there a problem with my headset (I don't think so, it works on other phones just fine, and it works on this phone 98% of the time without problems)?
Who is going to fix the bluetooth problems & when (Nokia or Microsoft)?
Can they be fixed, or are they problems inherent with the phone's bluetooth chip which are irreparable?
Is there any sense in me going back to the AT&T store & swapping for another Lumia 920? (I don't think so. Seems like most everything else with the phone works well [I've had a few other isolated incidents with other things, but so far I've written them off as software glitches that Microsoft or Nokia will fix with time]).
Who should I be reporting this issue to (AT&T? Nokia? Microsoft?)? What is the correct support channel to get the issue resolved most quickly? (I am very willing to work with a competent tech support person to troubleshoot & track the issue over time if necessary in order to help facilitate identifying the root cause of the issue so that a proper permanent fix can be implemented by Nokia or Microsoft.
Have any other users experienced this same problem?
Thanks for your time in reviewing my issue. I have been very excited & enthusiastic about the Lumia 920 & Windows Phone 8. I have tried to promote it with my friends and family. However, when I hit an issue like this which didn't exist on my Lumia 900, I find myself feeling a bit embarassed & frustrated.
By the way, to my knowledge I didn't have any other programs running on my phone during either of these incidents (definitely nothing else running in the foreground).
    Sincerely,
    Doug Mortensen

Don't expect support here. Nokia does not bother to pay a tech or two to support the people who have bought the 920. Not really a point to these forums.
Anyways, i have huge bt issues as well. Cannot connect or see my jawbone. In truck with pioneer nav system (it is illegal here to use a phone without handsfree in vehicle) it links, but when i make a call or receive a call it shows the phone off the receiver icon so it knows call in progress, but i either get no sound from the caller... at all, or i get a robotic mess i cannot decipher. when i cannot hear anything, people can hear me, but when i hear robotic, people can hear me but with distortion. However, when it reads a text message, the phone voice is fine through the system. Because i have to turn bt off then to use phone, i have to return this handset and just go back to android.
Have also had this drop calls a few times now as reception is probably the worst i have seen in a decade... even drops in downtown core. Battery life poor because i assume its always struggling for a signal.

  • Discovered cause of Battery Drain lumia 920/820

    Hi,
I just registered to tell you following:
I discovered the culprit that is responsible for the "semi random" battery drain.
@Home my Lumia 820 "shines" with a good battery life.
    @Work:
    - without any additional Installed app
    - no active background task (except standard entries: "extras+info" and Nokia Music)
    - every (backround)sync disabled (mail, also xbox, music.....)
    - display low
    - disabled location service
    - closing all apps with multiple clicks on back-button
    - uninstalled skype
    - disabled apps @ lockscreen
    - battery saver on
    - backup disabled
    - nfc disabled
    - microsoft account sync only 1x per day
    - disabled roaming (my provider is a roaming monster :-) roams into networks of other providers).
    - 2x fully discharged + fully charged + 12 hours on powersupply
    - and every other suggested energysave option/action i could find on internet and here in forum -> except hardreset
With all above mentioned methods the battery still gets/got literally eaten away at work in IDLE.
I had it next to me with monitor off. Only checked once per hour and it died in ~8-11 hours. No call no message no nothing.
I was curious why it only happens at work: The difference of the network coverage is, that at home it is far more inferior. I have to search for a spot in my house where i can use it for calling somebody.
So Internet is not even an option (also no HSPA+ coverage throughout the village). Normally you would have less battery life at places with less connectivity. But not in that case.
I investigated further: on the way to work I use it for surfing ~50min - 1hour -> there i loose 7-9% of my battery. (very good result for driving with car => many connection losses)
As soon as I reach the city where the Lumia reaches the HSPA+ network it begins to drain veery fast.
HSPA+ needs much more power than UMTS and I guess normal HSPA!
I compared the behaviour with the Samsung Galaxy S3 (colleague's phone) and noticed a small but profound difference:
After you "wake" the S3 from idle it will show on the screen, that it uses UMTS and not HSPA/HSPA+... as soon as you start surfing or start an app that connects to the internet the S3 switches immediately to HSPA+. After a little time the Samsung switches back to UMTS.
The lumia behaves differently: It detects HSPA+ and uses it. Also in idle!?
I followed this obvious lead and wanted to disable HSPA/HSPA+ -> unfortunately it only lets you disable 3g as a whole (UMTS/HSPA) so I switched to 2G only.
While I am writing this my L820 is unplugged 6hours now and
after much heavier use than normal (mailing, surfing with 3g while driving 45min home [which dropped the charging-level multiple times faster than gaming!], 1h gaming, 10 minutes calling)
the remaining battery life is at 70% with estimated time remaining: 1day 7hours left (after writing the whole story it went up to 2days 4hours with 69%... but i guess thats because its idleing).
This behaviour is also the explanation why some people are affected and some aren't.
Summary of change: from initially 8hours idle and not even touching the phone -> to finally using it now with 70% after 6hours with 1day 7hours time remaining.
Additional info: I live in Austria (Europe; no kangaroos ;-)) --> so I have a Lumia 820 with the german firmware without the update, which was released in USA and Canada:
    Revision: 1232.2109.1242.1001
So please implement a similar function like the Samsung S3 ... or just as a start: let us manually turn off UMTS, HSPA and HSPA+ separately! Surfing with 2g is no fun.
Sorry for the extensive and long story/facts ;-)
    Regards
    V4mp

I can confirm that my battery drain problem is related to LTE  on my US Lumia 920, at home where signal is weak I get fantastic battery life, less than 2% drain an hour, lasts for well over a day with moderate usage. My work however is located in an LTE zone and as soon as I enter this area battery life becomes catastrophically bad, several times the phone has died on me before my shift even ends. Something like 15% drain per hour, sometimes worse., I pick up my phone and even though it has been completely idle for hours it is a bit warm to the touch. I have no idea what it is doing when it is just sitting there.
Trust me, I have tried all the tips from all the other users, none have worked. This is not a problem with background applications or some feature being switched on, I have tested this phone running bare bones no apps or a fully day on "battery saver" mode which seems to make no difference, the problem persists. The only way I can make it through the workday is if I put my phone into Airplane Mode, the drain then completely stops, again at less than 2% an hour.
I am amazingly frustrated by all this, my Lumia 900 never had this problem with LTE, I almost never gave the battery a second thought with my 900, but with the 920 I am constantly worried about being stuck with a dead phone, I have almost no apps installed on the phone because I am afraid of any additional drain on the battery. I have to put my phone in Airplane Mode if I plan on spending more than an hour in the civilized world, I am so unhappy with my experience and I really miss my Lumia 900. I really wish Nokia would acknowledge that this a problem with some 920 handsets, and it is a problem, we are all not suffering from some sort of mass delusion. I have spent weeks troubleshooting and trying to find the cause. I really don't know what to do at this point.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 loads of issues after Denim update...

Everything functions well, but after updating it to Lumia Denim + Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 I first got some weird installing issues, then it started randomly crashing, then it worked fine again, of-course it won't back-up as usual (so no hard-resseting for me), and the live folders seem buggy for no reason at all, but for some reason whenever I attempt to create a live folder it takes me 5 minutes and it won't ''accept it''.
Also for some reason there is no ''Hey Cortana'' or maybe this simply isn't for the Nokia Lumia 920.

Hi, TulaTheQuang. You may try checking if there is any update on the phone system apps by going to Store >... > settings > check for updates and see if these will fix the problem. If not, try rebooting your phone by holding the volume down and power keys at the same time for 10-15 seconds, release and the phone will restart. After this operation, you may need to set the date and time on the phone. Let us know what will be the outcome. For the availability of Hey Cortana, you may refer to this link: Will I get “Hey Cortana” voice activation after Lumia Denim update?. Link is applicable regardless of your region.
Regarding your concern about the calendar, gilesrm74. The feature is currently unsupported on the device, but you may post your concern on this link: windowsphone.uservoice.com as a feature suggestion. And for the availability of Cortana, you may check this link: Full of features: Lumia Denim Update.

  • Lumia 920 suddenly switching apps

2 weeks ago I had my 3 month old lumia 920 replaced because it locked on the widows boot manager screen.  As soon as I got the new phone it was already having problems.  It will suddenly vibrate and jump from screen to screen.  Almost as if the back button was being pressed repeatedly.  It happens more freqently when using an internet based app like marketplace or GPS, but happens other times as well.  Any ideas on how to fix this or do I just need to take it back? Again.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You may try a few things before taking the phone back..
First check if the phone has the latest System applications..especially the display+touch . You can find the QR Codes HERE
Once you update the application go to settings-->display+touch-->touch and select Normal ...
If problem remians try a Soft Reset : Press Power + Volume(down) keys until the phone vibrates (about 8-10 seconds). The phone will reboot. Then check again.
If no change then sorry ...
