Lumia 920 overheating when running Here Drive+

Any suggestions as to why my Lumia 920 overheats to the point of shutting down when trying to navigate with Here Drive+
Doesn't matter if I have it running on battery power or via a Nokia DC car charger, same effect, it gets hot and then shuts down

Similar issue with Lumia 920 (WP8) heating up when using Here Drive. I've resorted to using it only for short amounts of time to avoid excessive heat buildup. When I use Here Drive, battery life is significantly shortened also which is another reason why I don't leave it running during long drives. If the phone does overheat, it tends to exit out of the Drive app and I sometimes I don't realize that Navigation has stopped working until I look at the phone!
And no, I do not use live traffic data as I do not have a data plan on my phone.

Lumia 920 on Black Amber - HERE Maps stops working

Hi,
After being trilled about updating and closing my applications using the X button on multi-tasking (finally!), I went into my Here Maps, or rather, I tried to open Here Maps, and it closed (probably an exception occurs and closes the app, just like when you develop WP apps).
So i've been searching the web.
Solutions that i've seen
1- Reset Phone (Done)
2- Soft Reset (Done)
3- Uninstall, Reinstall (Done)
4- Open while in Airplane/Removing SIM => still closes and crash
5- Uninstall Maps in Settings > Applications > Maps, I don't have Maps option (Even when I install/uninstall HERE Maps and/or HERE Drive+ and/or HERE Transit)
6- No updates available
7- Updated to latest version (I'm on black amber).
So after all that, i've been for 2 hours not able to solve my issue, which is (to recap):
Can't open HERE Maps on Lumia 920 (Black Amber), instantly crashes. I can still use Transit for getting my subway + bus infos, but can't use HERE Drive+ and Maps.
If there's anything more you need, please ask.

Dear Nokia support
All of my application which were integrated with maps are not working properly.
Unfortunatelly, there are no updates from Nokia on this issue.

Nokia Lumia 920: problems when playing videos on p...

Dear All,
thanks to this great support community website, I will b hopefully able to solve my prob.
Description:
my nokia lumia 920 has got the latest Win8 firmware and Lumia Amber update ( with 3 UK) but when trying to play videos on my win 7 pc's,
the actual video is corrupt or does not work properly,ie sound and slow immage processing.
I have the latest win 7 codec pack on pc and tried apps like VLC,ITunes,Windows Media Player,Nokia Media Player,Nokia Video Converter and others without success......not sure what's wrong but video were ok with my old Nokia N8......perhaps the format is not recognised??????
The fact that the pc plays the video means that format is not an issue but the quality is just terrible,video and sound.
I used both the WP desktop app to sync and dragging and/or dropping file with no difference at all.
DESPERATE,PLS HELP!!!!!!!!

Camera resolution is low and can’t change resolution (Nokia N8 has better)
Lumia 920 is 8Mpix, N8 is 12 Mpx, that said please elaborate. I am pretty sure that you will not be able to tell which phone took a shot if I show you one and don't tell you which I used.
Navigation (Here drive + beta) not comes with traffic updates and not giving alternate routes. Yeah traffic update is in the maps but there’s no point in there (Nokia N8 has better).
HERE suite of apps is relatively new and constantly being updated. I'll come
NBA live streaming No App. And flash player not support. (IOS and Android has it) not on N8 also.
Flash is dead, not available anymore for any up to date OS. Talk to the developer of an app on bringing it to WP8
Alarm won’t work when the phone off (N8 will turn on and works)
Your N8 is never really off
Keyboard not comes with arrow (<>) keys. Can’t type a missing letter between a word, have to delete the word and type the whole thing again.
tap and hold in textbox, cursor appears, move finger (while holding) to where it needs to go
Music player app can’t close. Just pause the song.
There's an app if you feel you must remove the player. Last I checked when paused playback is stopped.

Lumia 920 overheating/battery life

I sent my phone in for repair a week ago because of a loose battery and have since got the phone back and it is all fine and it doesn't clunk around now, however I noticed on my commute to work this morning and on my way home that when I was playing games on the device (temple run, asphalt 7 and VBA8), it would cause the phone to run really hot as If I was touching a radiator. Battery life also dipped from 99% to 13% within roughly and hour and a half of use, so I have attached a screenshot of the battery level app to display this. Is this a known issue or another repair job?

Same problem here. I got a new black lumia 920, 2 weeks ago at SLot limited, Ikeja. and it heats up ,
1. whenever I browse on 3G, (FB, twitter or skype)
2.when I take some pictures (like 7 at a go)...forget games, I won't even go there
I've turned most of the perks (NFC, location et al off)... I thought this was a smartphone, why do we have to make it a 3310 for it to work...I also saw the video,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU6soZi61GQ, If the problem is the procesor, why doesnt Nokia do the dignified thing and call back the faulty phones or equip the care centres with the technical know-how to insulate these phones. especially for their flagship phone... This is absolutely sad.
I was actually thinking of going to the care centre before but from the reviews above, It just a waste of time. We should all have been advised at the point of purchase that we were buying a radiator....hiss

Lumia 920 Overheating!

Hi.I was an HTC 8X owner and it was overheating like crazy.I thought the device had a problem and so until the retail is going to give me a new one i bought the Lumia 920.
The phone and it's specs are simply awsome with an amazing OS that has a huge potential.
Problem is that from the firt second i switched on the phone it begun overheating,especialy when i go to play games or take photos.What can i do?I don't think it's a device problem because the same thing was happening with my HTC.
I dont think a brand new NOKIA can be so faulty.Is there coming any update/fix OS or firmware?

Is it possible you just expect your phone to stay cooler than it does? (I only ask because you have experienced "overheating" with two different phones from two different makers.)
Is it possible the ambient temperature where you use or store the device is quite high?
Nokia states that with the 920 "Always keep the battery between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F) for optimal performance. Extreme temperatures reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery."
As many have pointed out before me, you can expect any smart phone to get warmer with use. (Unless I experienced some kind of malfunction that occured at a specific temperature, I couldn't even begin to guess what the "normal" operating temperature of my phone would be.)

Lumia 920 crash when listening to music

Hi,
My Nokia Lumia 920, windows 8 mobile keeps crashing when I listen to music from "Nokia Music". I usually use nokia-provided headsets when listening to music. In recent times the crash has become more frequent. When listening to music, the handset just reboots without any notification.
Is there a place I could look at the crash dump and submit it as an issue ?

have you tried a soft reset? i'm not talking about what you think might or might not work, i'm talking about trying it. it doesn't wipe any data. if it still doesn't work, then you may need to perform a hard reset (Settings > About > Reset your phone), which will wipe everything, so please make a backup to PC and/or online storage of your data first.
failing that, you will need to take your phone to your Nokia Care for inspection: http://nokia.com/support

Lumia 920 freezing when connecting to bluetooth he...

First at all, I'm pretty sure it's bluetooth connection problem because I tried to plug in a wired earphone, it works 100% properly.It's an annoying issue for me everyday as I use to listen music, video without WIRE.
Back to topic, when I connect my Lumia 920 (no portico yet) to my bluetooth (Nokia BH-221) headset, I cannot properly forward or backword my songs either through my phone and my bluetooh (freezing status). Besides , my songs will stop automatically once a song finished. I have to manually pause-and-start to re-activate the music player. When that song finished, I have to do "pause-and-start" again. Does anyone come across the same issue? Any solution?
I think there is no such compatbility problem because the bluetooth is produced by Nokia. my Nokia headset works perfectly either because it works flawlessly with non-WP powered devices.

Hi mate, thanks for your reply. I did pretty much soft reset enough as sometimes my phone was just freezing (recently it's mainly exactly caused by the obnoxious bluetooth connection issue). But I haven't tried a hard reset yet. I will give it a shot tonight or tomorrow. By the way, I heard a hard reset will take a couple of hours for processing, is that true? (Someone reported his phone is processing the hard reset by 5hrs).
I had reported my case to local Nokia Care team. They initially called me back after two days, asked me a few questions and then they claimed they have to do some tests. Thus, I still do not have a solution.
Another odd but minor issue, when I play my song with Nokia Music (if Wifi is on), song art (provided by nokia music)will come out in the background. But if I am under a connection of 3G, H+, Lte, the song art is gone. I read all possible settings but still no luck. I don't see a relevant setting to make song art able even under 3G, H+, Lte.

MBP overheating when running any app using webcam - Skype - Photobooth

My MacBook Pro (2007) overheats each time when using skype. checked and the same applies to photobooth.
My MBP's screen was freezing up as the unit heated up using Skype. I initially thought it was the purchase of a 2560X1440 monitor forcing my graphics card to work harder but the problems are replicated even without my external monitor.
Apple replaced my motherboard/graphics card for the second time yesterday as it was apparently among the defective nVidia units. I took the opportunity to upgrade my hard-drive to 500GB (from 320). My fans and heat sinks were also cleared of all dust.
I restored my system from time machine.
When running skype or photobooth, the unit immediately begins to heat-up again.
I have checked the forums and have installed fan-control to no avail. I have also checked activity monitor with the following results:
Initially mdcontrol and mds were running 90%+ cpu causing temperatures to spike up over 90 celsius (190+ fahrenheit). they have dropped off now, seems spotlight index needed to be finished after restoring my system.
With a test of photo booth now, it uses 76% of CPU. Temperature rapidly ramped up to over 74 Celsius (161) with fans at over 5400 RPM. I also have a massive 22cm laptop cooling fan to help out. The system stays at these high temperatures as long as the webcam is running using photobooth or skype. The system drops to "normal" temperatures immediately after dropping webcam useage.
I have also added an external webcam to see if the problem repeats (Logitech C510). The problem seems worse with temperatures immediately spiking to over 95 degrees Celsius (203 fahrenheit). It is an HD camera so i guess it needs more processing bandwidth.
I would add that the temperature spike is occurring on CPU A (according to iStat Nano). The GPU Diode rises to but did not jump over 70 Celsius.
The problem thus appears to be software linked.
I use skype continuously for work so this is a major issue. There has been a recent update to Skype but my machine was running hot and crashing before then as well.
At least now with the new board it is not immediately crashing my machine but it is only a matter of time until it begins to fail as well.
Is anybody else having these problems? Any fixes? This is not normal, it did not occur in the past (at least I don't recall this).

Thanks will look at disabling spotlight. I don't use safari so there should not be a problem there.
Main issue is still Skype (can replicate effect with photobooth). Seems that webcam use and skype (iSight or external webcam) will rapidly spike temperatures and cpu use.
One of the threads mentioned the OnyX utility helping solve the issues. I ran this to clear a lot of things from my machine.
It seems to have solved many of the issues (though I don't know which was the culprit). Whatever it was came from my original user files/settings as these were the only elements I transferred following my full reformat and reinstall.
My machine - with fan control and external laptop cooling fan - now stays below 70 degrees though the internal fans are then running at 5700rpm (aggressive settings used). CPU use for Skype at around 76%. Just had a 20 min skype call to test that.
So OnyX may have solved the problem. My thanks to the developers. May have been able to save replacing the mother board and a full reinstall as a result.

Nokia Lumia 920 overheating frozen

Have tried soft reset but this is not working. My phone has been overheating and freezing for ages, very frustrating as i dont do anything very much on it. The odd game - talking tom or facebook is about it. Have tried doing soft resets each time and has worked up to now. Have also uninstalled whatsapp as people have said that might be an issue. Have uninstalled fb app and only access it online. Seriously dont do anything else on my phone. If I do hard reset how can i back my stuff up beforehand if i cant even use the phone!!!!

It is normal for the phone to get warm when in intensive use. However, if you think that it's already too hot, you'll need to check it with the Nokia Repair Facility for further tests.
With regard to the 4G concern, Is your phone unlocked or unbranded? 4G will be supported if the operator or SIM that you are using supports 4G connection as well. It is best to contact your operator for more information about their network coverage.

Lumia 820 AT&T(USA) Here Drive+ no voice direction...

I just factory reset my Lumia 820, which has a 64gb SanDisk SD card. Have everything stored on card which will go there, including maps. I downloaded (female, UK) voice, but it doesn't speak in use. Need help to get working. Has worked before! Thank you.

As a process of elimination have you tried removing memory card and downloading just your state and voice file to phone memory in case a certain file lost in "reset" process?

Lumia 635 - No voice on Here Drive+ with Bluetooth

My phone 635 connects automatically via Bluetooth to the audio system in my car, and the voice navigation doesn't work, when I disable Bluetooth, the voice works, does anyone know how to get both to work at the same time?

Syncing contacts on Lumia 920 with outlook running...

I just purchased the phone and signed in with both my live and outlook accounts and within 5 minutes all my emails, contacts and calendar had been downloaded to phone.
However since then the emails are flowing o/k and if I enter a calendar item in outlook it does sync to phone. However new contacts being entered in outlook are not syncing with the phone and calendar entries made on the phone are not syncing with Outlook.
Suggestions please

Go to contacts on your phone/ipad, click groups, make sure that the only checked contacts are icloud. That shoud do.

New Lumia 920 with Here Drive+Beta - no connection...

Hi!
I have two Lumias - 800 for my private use and brand new 920 for my business use. 800 has WP7.8 installed and Nokia Drive works flawlessly and I can download any maps I want.
But not so with 920 with WP8 and Here Drive+ Beta: phone informs all the time that there is no connection with map server - check your WiFi connection. But WiFi is working Ok with full speed - I have web pages like this opened without problems (data connection disabled for to be sure WiFi is functional).
Same message appears when I'm trying to download maps through Here Maps. My country, Finland, is of course in the list and as I said before, Nokia Drive works with Lumia 800 and maps can be downloaded.
What could be the problem? Location, GPS works, WiFi works. Nokia account active, WindowsLiveId active. Are map servers for Here Drive+Beta really out of operation right now?

OK, everything is working now. Just waited 8 hrs and servers are up again. Problem solved. Odd although that my Lumia 800 was working at the same time.
