Lumia 920 screen issue

The screen on my lumia 920 has gone mostly white with a few coloured vertical lines that show just enough to see that everything is running but i cant make use of it, reafing a txt is impossible but i might see enough to work out whos sent it.
i have uploaded a picture and i would like to know if this would be covered by warranty or if not a likely repair cost. i dicnt drop it or anything like that, suddenlh just happened. feeling a bit vexed

If this isn't caused by you misusing your device I can't see why this shouldn't be covered by the warranty. It's clearly something wrong with it.
I would bring it to a care point straight away!

  • Lumia 920 screen broken + other problems

    Hi,
There are many videos posted about breaking lumia 920s screen and how difficult it is.
Well, mine broke without any effort. I've had the phone for 3,5 weeks, I have NOT dropped it or hit it anywhere nor have I scratched it with anything. I woke up yesterday morning and after writing one message and closing the monitor i noticed a crack/scratch on the right side of the screen where the buttons are located on the side (volume - lockscreen). I know most of you think I've thrown the phone somewhere or dropped it, but I have not. This crack seems to be somewhat deep but very narrow, like hair.
Has anyone else expriences such things?
Today I went to the place where I bought the phone and the boy working there said that "nothing we can do, won't go to guarantee" and he based his claim on previous complaints about other smartphones. However this GorillaGlass should be sturdy, but it seems that at least in my phone it broke by itself. I have the red version of the phone bought from Finland, made in China.
On top of this, some people say when talking in the phone that my voice is coming poorly or almost not at all. This is random.
Phone also gets -very- warm if used near the camera on the back of the phone, I do not know what chip is located in there, but the heating happens when an online software is being used that requires an internet connection - either wireless or 3G.
And furthermore, the headphones didn't really work long, the right plug began working on/off and making some scratching sounds after maybe 3 hours of use and it seems to work depending on the position of the cord.
Anyway, I am wondering if someone else has had their screen broken without any harm done to it? In my opinion this should NOT happen in less than a month's use of the phone. If searched from the internet (google), there are quite a few posts about scratched and cracks in lumia 920 screen but I did not find any posts from here with a quick look.
..And, is there anything I can do about this? it's a pity that this kind of obvious error in this certain phone I have is making it uglier and annoying me so much...
    Cheers,
    J

The only possibility for glass breaking is the temperature change actually. I was thinking about it myself too. And this is so strange because, as you mentioned, there are videos and info about the glass' hardness around the internet to be found. However, as I live in Finland and it is (real) winter here the phone has undergone temperature changes earlier too, even more dramatic than on friday morning when I took it outside with me for 5 minutes (was only -10 outside, 22ish inside) and this is not as big a temperature change that a phone should not last really as people do live in hot and cold countries.
Other possibility, which is also unlikely, is that the buttons on the side have something wrong with them or they have somehow bent the glass as the crack is at that edge of the screen.
The thing is, the morning I woke up, glass was fine, nothing on it. About an hour later I reply to a message and after locking the screen I see the crack. All this time the phone was on the table facing up. Luckily there is nothing wrong with the functions or anything else with the phone related to the glass, it just makes the otherwise good looking surface a bit ugly.
Has anyone reading this tried to use those "scratch fix solutions" found from webshops? That you apply on the glass and the scratch/dent/crack goes away? -though I doubt that's a good option to do, but it'll be a quick one and at least the crack won't bother me longer.
It is really stupid that otherwise a very pretty and seemingly great phone which I've already grown to like more than I thought I would in such short time (after N8) has this kind of a thing in reserve for me. =(
The live chat and call options are probably open during weekdays, thus I did not use them yet even though they were on the possible options in the nokia care (I checked it first before posting here in the first place). Also the closest Nokia care place is a bit far away, but let's see.
    Again, thanks for replies.

  • Lumia 920, screen rotation not working, loosen obj...

I have pre-ordered the lovely yellow 920 from Telstra Australia, in November, arrived around start of December. It is a fantastic phone to use, however there are several hardware and software issues influencing this experience in a bad way. Anyone have the same experiences with the folloing issues?
Firstly, I have noticed only in just a few days of using it, the screen can get obvious scratches very easily from normal use without screen protector film. Now, there is a  pattern of many scratches from swipe up to unlock gesture. I though it would be as least do better than iphones
Secondly, I have noticed what feels like a chunk of loose object inside the phone, as I shake it quickly left and right, which could even be heard, as two hard object in contact with each other. I have no Idea what could that be.
Thirdly, the screen rotation simply stopped working one day without notice. Tried soft reset a dozen times and even hard reset to factory status did not fix the issue. This get me thinking, it might have been a serious hardware issue, or perhaps the accelorometer/gyroscope was damaged by that loose object inside the phone. However, today, all of a sudden it starts to work again.........Brilliant!.......not...
Another issue is that it could get Literally Burning Hot on the top right corner(front) of the phone in some circumstances. I understand electronic devices can get warm while operating, my Nokia N8 gets warm during intense operation such as multi-tasking Map, Drive etc, But it never gets to a point when you have to consider whether it is still safe to use or not, sadly, I have to do that with my 920 while video chatting,
There are even more issue with the software. A few random mornings in the past month, I wake up to a dead 920 on a wireless charging pad, only to be able to recover through soft reset procedure (Volum down + power).  No idea why....
and sometimes as I accept an incoming call, the phone freezes on that screen. The call still goes through, three buttons are still alight and vibrates, but not functional. Again, only recoveralbe by soft reset.
Does anyone have the same experiences with these issues?
No matter what might caused these issues, to have all these occuring within a flagship smartphone, Me as a loyal Nokia fan (3210,6600,6220,3220,6300,N95,N8) is very disappointed.

I also bought Lumia 920 and had same issue with accelorometer.  I have submitted phone in Nokia care and after 15 days they repired and given back. This happened in june 2013, now i started facing same issues again and my phone also get very hot while charging...... Can anyone advice how to get my device preplaced ???
    thanks.

  • Lumia 920 ongoing issues, very disappointed

Hi there, I am an owner of a Lumia 920 on Vodafone UK, i recieved this handset in Feb this year when it was available as an upgrade on my network.
I am very upset and disppointed with my handset...
    I am experiencing the following issues;
Random reboots when phone is idle in my pocket or making/recieving calls
When making calls I get 'call dropped' and I get messages of friends saying they cant ring me so i have to turn the phone off and on again and then all good again.
I complained to Vodafone and they said send the phone off for repair, which I reluctantly did and they somehow deduced the screen was faulty and said that was replaced and had an 'internal service' and a full firmware reflash/update..
I revieved the phone back within 3 days which I was pretty chuffed about.
Since ive had it back, which is now just going on 7 days it has rebooted again once on its own and now I have a flickering screen... I have googled this and turned off the auto brightness and I still have a flickering screen.
As I am in a 24 month contract and its been over 14 days since I had the upgrade I am pretty much stuck with this phone now.. Am I within my right to ask Vodafone to replace the phone completely or do I have to put up with sending it for repair every week?? I am even considering making such a fuss they will let me even choose another phone completely as im sick of this Lumia!

I did go in to the local vodafone store where I sent the phone back and asked about a replacement sim card and all  I got was 'nah the sim card cant cause it to reboot, all it contains is the network info etc' or something along those lines... I did read somewhere that a sim card can cause issues and since you have mentioned this as well now I think they may have fobbed me off.. ill go in again today and say Nokia them selfes have asked me to try a new sim and see what they say...

  • Lumia 920 screen uniformity problem - anyone else?

    Hello everyone,
Recently I have purchased Lumia 920.
It was purchased from one of parallel import shops (so there's that), but it was advertised as brand new.
Phone works fine, except that bottom of the screen is darker than top. It is not major but it is easy visible (checked with couple of mates and everyone saw it, so it's not just me being paranoid). Light fade-out starts between 10 and 15mm from bottom of the screen, is very gradual and that darker patch seem to have a bit of purple-ish tint. It is visible only on white background (Internet Explorer, for example).
I took phone back to the shop and they opened two remaining phones for me, plugged them and turned them on - both had approximately same uniformity problem. Shop people were really helpful, took my details and promissed to call me when new batch arives, but their opinion was that it's just the way screens are.
My opinion is that - maybe even unknowingly - they got batch of, how to put it? B-grade phones; devices that are not really faulty but have something a bit sub-standard, a minor defect not worth returning to factory for repair. My phone, for example, was defaulted to Italian, so I presume it was originally intended for Italian market, found a bit unsatisfying and re-sold (for lower price) to this supplier, something I think most manufacturers would do if product is not really faulty but does have minor issue.
Any thoughts on this? Has anyone noticed screen uniformity problem on their Lumia 920? Easiest way to spot it is in IE, blank white page, landscape orientation (so that search bar does not cover lower edge part which is most affected).
I like phone a lot and am planning to keep this one if new batch has same problem, but at least I want to argue their "Oh, they are probably all like that". I can accept this downside for buying phone below regular street price, but I think this should be something they admit, rather than trying to blame Nokia. Their web site should say something like "brand new with slight defect", not only "brand new". People should know what they trade for lower price.

Yeah, that's the problem with parallel import deals - you usually don't get local support as device was intended for different part of the world.
But. Completely coincidentally, I have received a call from shop this morning, telling me that new batch has arrived... so I went there, checked new phone with them (no problem with screen on that one) and got my phone replaced on the spot.
So I'm happy camper right now.

  • Lumia 920 Screen will no longer rotate.

I've had my Lumia 920 for about a month now - it is a German Vodafone model. As of today while I was out at work I went to use it to send a text and they keyboard would no longer change orientation when I flipped the phone sideways. Nothing would rotate anymore, photos, web pages; its as if the rotation setting is not working. I looked to find one but I can't. I've heard a few issues on various forums like WPcentral about this and that it might be a software bug, and a search of this forum has another user whose rotation doesn't work, but I don't know why this would have just started, and I've tried hard resets and soft resets and nothing seems to fix it.
I would really like some information about this or a possible fix, as this is really killing the useability of the phone - that along with the random restarts which happen several times a day on average.

Wondering the same. I have seen this issue posted here and on Windows Phone Centrals website. It appear to be a recent issue. On December 24th  Windows 8 installed the latest update "Portico" on my Lumia. On December 26th my phone used wireless charging for the first time via the JBL PowerUp. Those are the only relevant changes I can think of that may have caused my screen orientation to stop working on December 28th. I did notice my Lumia was hotter than normal when using the wireless charging. This is probably expected due to the copper coil needed for the wireless charging. That said, I don't believe the phone should have gotten as hot as it did. I am wondering if somehow the gyroscope got fused. Orientation no longer works at all and has been confirmed on IE browser, Email, Text, Picture taking, Picture viewing, Google app and Facebook app. In an attempt to fix this I reset the phone which Nokia told me to do. After I clicked reset the phone rebooted showing gears turning. After 2 hours the gear where still turning. A volume down power button reboot of the device was performed 6 times before the phone came back up. Once the phone came back up I chose not to restore the phone with the backed up settings. The phone was completely wiped and no old data was used. The problem still exists. At this point I am really hoping this is not  a hardware problem. If anyone knows how to fix this problem please advise as this is a big issue for me and I would assume a lot of other users as well if it happens to them. I really like this phone and believe it is the best phone on the market. If this issue is in fact a hardware issue this could cause big problems for Nokia. I hope to resolve this soon otherwise I will have to return the phone and JBL PowerUp which is a very impressive audio piece.
FYI - I have had the phone since it was available in November without any issues up until December 28th..
    Thanks,
    N.

  • Nokia lumia 920 sound issues

I have a problem with the sound of my Nokia Lumia 920. I bought the phone back in June, this issue have only just start. The sound works when i get a text message, email and other notifications, it doesn't work when i play music or games, even when i type on the keyboard it just doesn't make any sound. I hope someone can help me with this problem. Thank you

    hi mate,
have you got the Portico update installed (check via Settings > Phone Update). also check that you are fully up to date with all the latest Nokia system apps in the Store. failing that, you can try soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates).

  • Lumia 920 - serious issue may have died on its own...

    Hi,
Thankyou for reading this and would really appreciate any help.
I have a Lumia 920 in black colour and it has just died on me.
    How it happened?
The phone was working just fine throughout the day. After coming back to home from work its battery was out of juice (about 5%) so I simply placed it on the wireless charging plate. Before going to bed that day I picked it from the charging plate, with battery charged to almost 98%, and placed it on my bedside table since I have set the morning alarm on my Lumia. In the morning there was no alarm and the phone was dead.
What is happening with the Phone?
    * It will not turn on with the power button.
    * Once plugged in via USB charger or connected to a PC/Laptop via USB cable the phone vibrates and displays nokia logo for 3-5 secs and then simply does blank. Then again the phone will vibrate and display nokia logo and then again goes blank. This loop would go on and on till the USB cable remains connected with the phone.
    * Lumia would not go beyond the nokia logo to display the initial WP8 OS blue screen.
    * When Lumia is placed on the wireless charging pad the battery appears to take the charge from the plate. It feels slightly warm after 20-30 appears of charge, as it normally would. However whilst on charging plate it will not show any Nokia logo or vibrate. It just remains blank and keeps charging itself.
What have I tried so far?
    * I have tried the soft reset by pressing vol- + Power button during various scenarios, including when the phone is off and when its displaying Nokia logo while connected to USB cable.
    * I have tried hard reset by pressing Vol-+Power+Cam Button, but nothing happens.
    * I have tried to connect it to my laptop so that I can reflash it with the latest firmware up once connected to laptop the connection drops repeatidly making it impossible to connect the phone with then Nokia firmware updater.
    * I left it on the charging plate for 30 mins but nothing happened. the Cell kept charging itself. I removed it from the plate with the fear of burning the internals.
    * I left it connected with the wall charger for 3 hours, nothing happened.
Although the phone is under warranty, but I want to recover the phone myself before sending it for warranty claim. So somehere kindly advise of a solution.
    Thanks
    Ali

Your 3 button hard reset is incorrect. Have a look at the link below for the proper reset keystrokes.

  • Lumia 920 screen is not rotating even though it h...

My Nokia lumia 920 had been submitted to nokia care several times for the phone used to get hanged.I was told it will be allright.my phone had been kept in their servicing centre for more than a month but then the same problem persists. And then I submitted again but still the same problem again. This has been continuing for many months.
Finally the screen will not roatate when the phone is kept at horizontal or horizantal position.
How many times do I have to go to Nokia care?I feel it is one of the worst service wanting to trouble their consumers.

As this platform is a user to user board we can't do much for you here. I suggest you file a complaint with Nokia Care on this.

  • Lumia 920 - temperature issue

Sometimes the temperature of my Lumia 920 will get so hot that the SIM card will stop registering. This results in the phone throwing up a SIM error.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do?

what usage patterns of your phone? if it is heating up unnecessarily in daily use, with apps such as HERE Drive+, Here Maps, and Games shut down, then sounds like something is wrong hardware-wise. to be on the safe side, i would check that battey draining processes such as Location in the Settings, and Tap + Send are turned off, and that you have the Portico update for WP8 downloaded and installed, by chjecking Settings > Phone Update. also ensure that you are fully up to date with all the latest Nokia system app updates in the STore.
failing that, you can try performing a soft reset (pressing the voluime down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates), or if that doesn't work, then a hard reset (Settings > About > Reset your phone). please bear in mind that this wipes everything, so you will need to make a backup of personal data to PC and/or online storage first.
failing that, need to take your phoen to Nokia Care for inspeciton: http://nokia.com/support

  • Lumia 800: Screen Issues

    Hello,
I seem to have a faulty device, and wish to confirm it. Two times now, I have noticed an artifact, where part of the screen on the left gets chipped off and appears on the right instead. This happens only for a moment or so, but obviously points to a hardware or software issue. I wonder if anybody else has this issue, and whether I should invoke my warranty in this case.
    Thanks

The same for me and my friend, both with nokia Lumia 800.
The part of image appear at the right side.... and later come back to normal.

  • Lumia 1020 Screen issue

Not totally sure how to explain this...
When the phone is at the lock screen, showing the clock on a BLACK background where the background is back lit.  If I am in the Dark so theres no light source to glare off the screen, I can see what look like delamination under the screen, when I first got the phone 2 weeks ago there where 2 of these areas on the top right of the screen, there are now 4 areas.
I am not sure if its something to worry about or ignore, I could imagine if I was watching a video on a night flight or in the dark it would be annoying but it only seems to be visible when the screen displays black, you cant see it when the screen is off or in any other colour, to me it seems like a manufactuering defect on the screen but I have seen anyone else complain of this issue.
Any one else seen or heard of this issue?

  • Lumia 720 screen issue

Does nokia care change my Lumia 720 screen

Hi, you're at MS/Nokias user to user forums and you're giving little on what's your problem other than you ask if Nokia care will replace your screen.
If it's within the warranty period and it's a warranty case they will replace the screen free if needed.
If its out of warranty and/or you have caused the screen to malfunction or break by dropping it etc, you will have to pay for the replacement screen/repairs.
A Nokia care point will however be able to answer you on this question.
    Good luck!

    Been having the same issue.
Received updates (AUS Optus phone) over the last few weeks and WIFI hotspotting has beein impossible since.
I used to be able to hotspot for my iPhone 4 but now it connects and "secures" connection, but no data transfer occurs. I tired to hotspot to my PS3 (like I used to on the iP4) and it sees the phone but can't connect.

  • Lumia 920; Screen rotation problem, seems to be a ...

    Hi,
Since a week I have a problem where my screen will not rotate anymore. When I soft reset the phone it magically works again, but after some usage with the phone it comes back and I cannot rotate it anymore until the nextt soft reset.
I hoped a hard reset / restore to fabric settings might help, but it didn't. Did not install alot new apps (only whatsapp actually). There are no updates available on the system to get it more up-to-date than it is.
Since the problem is gone when doing a reset (for a short time that is) I doubt it is a mechanical problem and I fear Nokia will not see it as a malfunction in their phone. Anyone has seen this problem?

I will do that, weird thing; When making a photo, It saved sideways in my album.
Hope the service point have a good solution. But was hoping someone new a quick fix.
