Lumia 920 - serious issue may have died on its own...

Hi,
Thankyou for reading this and would really appreciate any help.
I have a Lumia 920 in black colour and it has just died on me.
How it happened?
The phone was working just fine throughout the day. After coming back to home from work its battery was out of juice (about 5%) so I simply placed it on the wireless charging plate. Before going to bed that day I picked it from the charging plate, with battery charged to almost 98%, and placed it on my bedside table since I have set the morning alarm on my Lumia. In the morning there was no alarm and the phone was dead.
What is happening with the Phone?
* It will not turn on with the power button.
* Once plugged in via USB charger or connected to a PC/Laptop via USB cable the phone vibrates and displays nokia logo for 3-5 secs and then simply does blank. Then again the phone will vibrate and display nokia logo and then again goes blank. This loop would go on and on till the USB cable remains connected with the phone.
* Lumia would not go beyond the nokia logo to display the initial WP8 OS blue screen.
* When Lumia is placed on the wireless charging pad the battery appears to take the charge from the plate. It feels slightly warm after 20-30 appears of charge, as it normally would. However whilst on charging plate it will not show any Nokia logo or vibrate. It just remains blank and keeps charging itself.
What have I tried so far?
* I have tried the soft reset by pressing vol- + Power button during various scenarios, including when the phone is off and when its displaying Nokia logo while connected to USB cable.
* I have tried hard reset by pressing Vol-+Power+Cam Button, but nothing happens.
* I have tried to connect it to my laptop so that I can reflash it with the latest firmware up once connected to laptop the connection drops repeatidly making it impossible to connect the phone with then Nokia firmware updater.
* I left it on the charging plate for 30 mins but nothing happened. the Cell kept charging itself. I removed it from the plate with the fear of burning the internals.
* I left it connected with the wall charger for 3 hours, nothing happened.
Although the phone is under warranty, but I want to recover the phone myself before sending it for warranty claim. So somehere kindly advise of a solution.
Thanks
Ali

Your 3 button hard reset is incorrect. Have a look at the link below for the proper reset keystrokes.

  • Lumia 920 ongoing issues, very disappointed

Hi there, I am an owner of a Lumia 920 on Vodafone UK, i recieved this handset in Feb this year when it was available as an upgrade on my network.
I am very upset and disppointed with my handset...
    I am experiencing the following issues;
Random reboots when phone is idle in my pocket or making/recieving calls
When making calls I get 'call dropped' and I get messages of friends saying they cant ring me so i have to turn the phone off and on again and then all good again.
I complained to Vodafone and they said send the phone off for repair, which I reluctantly did and they somehow deduced the screen was faulty and said that was replaced and had an 'internal service' and a full firmware reflash/update..
I revieved the phone back within 3 days which I was pretty chuffed about.
Since ive had it back, which is now just going on 7 days it has rebooted again once on its own and now I have a flickering screen... I have googled this and turned off the auto brightness and I still have a flickering screen.
As I am in a 24 month contract and its been over 14 days since I had the upgrade I am pretty much stuck with this phone now.. Am I within my right to ask Vodafone to replace the phone completely or do I have to put up with sending it for repair every week?? I am even considering making such a fuss they will let me even choose another phone completely as im sick of this Lumia!

I did go in to the local vodafone store where I sent the phone back and asked about a replacement sim card and all  I got was 'nah the sim card cant cause it to reboot, all it contains is the network info etc' or something along those lines... I did read somewhere that a sim card can cause issues and since you have mentioned this as well now I think they may have fobbed me off.. ill go in again today and say Nokia them selfes have asked me to try a new sim and see what they say...

  • Nokia lumia 920 sound issues

I have a problem with the sound of my Nokia Lumia 920. I bought the phone back in June, this issue have only just start. The sound works when i get a text message, email and other notifications, it doesn't work when i play music or games, even when i type on the keyboard it just doesn't make any sound. I hope someone can help me with this problem. Thank you

    hi mate,
have you got the Portico update installed (check via Settings > Phone Update). also check that you are fully up to date with all the latest Nokia system apps in the Store. failing that, you can try soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates).

  • Lumia 920 - temperature issue

Sometimes the temperature of my Lumia 920 will get so hot that the SIM card will stop registering. This results in the phone throwing up a SIM error.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do?

what usage patterns of your phone? if it is heating up unnecessarily in daily use, with apps such as HERE Drive+, Here Maps, and Games shut down, then sounds like something is wrong hardware-wise. to be on the safe side, i would check that battey draining processes such as Location in the Settings, and Tap + Send are turned off, and that you have the Portico update for WP8 downloaded and installed, by chjecking Settings > Phone Update. also ensure that you are fully up to date with all the latest Nokia system app updates in the STore.
failing that, you can try performing a soft reset (pressing the voluime down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates), or if that doesn't work, then a hard reset (Settings > About > Reset your phone). please bear in mind that this wipes everything, so you will need to make a backup of personal data to PC and/or online storage first.
failing that, need to take your phoen to Nokia Care for inspeciton: http://nokia.com/support

  • Lumia 920 screen issue

The screen on my lumia 920 has gone mostly white with a few coloured vertical lines that show just enough to see that everything is running but i cant make use of it, reafing a txt is impossible but i might see enough to work out whos sent it.
i have uploaded a picture and i would like to know if this would be covered by warranty or if not a likely repair cost. i dicnt drop it or anything like that, suddenlh just happened. feeling a bit vexed

If this isn't caused by you misusing your device I can't see why this shouldn't be covered by the warranty. It's clearly something wrong with it.
I would bring it to a care point straight away!

  • Pro/cons to have indexes on its own tablspace

    hi ,
i have a new db running on oracle 10G R2 , various table spaces have been created that can be extended from 8M , 2M , 128K
my dba recommends that large insertion/updates tables goes to the 8M tablespace , but i notice that the indexes of those tables are in the same tablespace
    ques :
    1. can index exists on its own tablespace
2 . are there pro/cons of having indexes in its own tablspace ?
    tks & rgds

Not really the proper forum for this question. You should have rather posted the question to the [url http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=61]Database Forum
    > 1. can index exists on its own tablespace
    Yes.
    > 2 . are there pro/cons of having indexes in its own tablspace ?
Maybe.. it depends entirely on what your requirements are, and the nature of the data and hardware.
One reason to place indexes in a separate tablespace is simply for space management. E.g. this prevents some idiot developer of eating up all the space for tables, by indexing each and every column in a table and swamping the tablespaces with indexes.
Another reason is block sizes. Tablespaces can each have a different block sizes. You may want to use large 128KB blocks for data and smaller 32KB blocks for indexes.
That all said - personally I tend these days to prefer a single tablespace per logical database/application. In the past (especially back in Oracle 7) I always separated indexes and tables. But Oracle space management has improved so much, and we're dealing with such large data volumes these days, I do not think it is warranted without some sound technical reason to split data and indexes.

  • Lumia 920 Hotspot issue

I have another issue with the personal hotspot feature.
MY LG W7 Phone works perfectly when I use its hotspot with my iPad.
MY Nokia Lumina 920 W8 Phone is very patchy no when I use its hotspot with my iPad.
The other devices say they connect but get no data.
I have to turn the hotspot on and off a few times to get that working
Moderator's note: We have provided a subject-related title to help other forum users easily view and respond to this post.

    Been having the same issue.
Received updates (AUS Optus phone) over the last few weeks and WIFI hotspotting has beein impossible since.
I used to be able to hotspot for my iPhone 4 but now it connects and "secures" connection, but no data transfer occurs. I tired to hotspot to my PS3 (like I used to on the iP4) and it sees the phone but can't connect.
    Must be fixed asap!!!!
    Otherwise, any suggestions?

  • Lumia 920 hearing issue

Whenever I am in a call, the person on the other end always has trouble hearing me. They say that my voice appears shrill or breaks often, This kind of qualitu is rendering the phone useless for me. Is anyone else having similar issues? Any soultion for this issue or do I need ti replace it?

Can you try to check the following:
    1. Do you have a good and stable signal?
    2. Have you tried changing your SIM (as it might be a network issue)?
    3. Does this happen to all the person who's calling you?
    4. Remove any covers or shells from the handset temporary to check if covers affect the phones's signal strength.
Check if you have the latest software version. See this link http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/wp8-software-update/ to know more about updating your phone's software.

  • Cannot install Sharepoint 32bit due to product key issue - may have been used on Trial Office 2013

    Hi,
I have a 32 bit version of Office 2010 Professional installed. I have attempted to install SharePoint 2013 but it fails saying the product key has been used before possibly in an Office 2013 trial version.
Any idea how I circumvent this? Is it possible to get an alternative product key - although the install process does not allow a product key to be entered.
    Thanks,
    Alan Johnson

What are you trying to install? It isn't 'SharePoint' as that doesn't have a 32 bit version. On it's own 'SharePoint' refers to SharePoint Server or Foundation, which are server products that you connect to from your computer but do not install locally.
It is also not common to install Office on a SharePoint server (but not unheard of either).
SharePoint Designer, which is very different from 'SharePoint' does come in 32 bit as does 'SharePoint Workspace'.

  • The app may shut down on its own or the button will not change it

I'm having a problem with an a search unexpectedly closing; then at times I'm unable to get the application to close and have to press the button a number of times to get anything to happen.  I only have one application open while this is happening.  Also, when this is happening, the pad seems extremely slow.  Could someone help diagnose what is going on with my IPad?

    Try here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

  • My iPad died on its own and won't respond.

My iPad is not responding at all. It's dead literally, won't budge.

Perhaps the battery is completely drained? Plug the iPad into the charger that came with it and plug that into a known good wall outlet. Leave it alone for at least an hour. Then reset your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
If the iPad starts up leave it plugged on until the battery reaches 100%.
If it still won't start up Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 potential battery drain issue?

Can you Nokia confirm this? http://reach.jdbpocketware.com/topic/128305-to-nokia-ref-lumia-920/
    The issue illustrated in detail:
    Nature of Windows Phone buttons
Pressing either the power button or the camera button will cause the device screen to turn on, even when the proximity sensor detects proximity.
    The lockscreen behavior
Upon power on, screen lights up and shows the lockscreen (or camera), which runs a timeout to auto power off the device if screen is not touched in X seconds.
But if screen is touched, the timeout counter is restarted, so continuous touching could lead into a loop, the "death loop" which won't let the device to power off (standby) and will consume battery life.
    New touchscreen technology
The Nokia Lumia 920 comes with a touchscreen that reacts to touch from pretty much any material such as metal or clothes. This can be dangerous.
    So here is a theory
When the phone is inside a pocket or bag it can be touched by other objects. These objects can press buttons and can touch/rub the screen. This will initiate the "death loop" for who knows how much time, could be minutes or hours, depends on how active the user is since body movement will produce friction between objects/clothes and touchscreen:
The "death loop" will drain battery and battery is precious.
    Solution?
Should be simple: screen must not power on if the proximity sensor detects proximity. Current version of Windows Phone does not take care of this. The big question is: will Windows Phone 8 take care of this? Is the Lumia 920 a potential battery drainer?

I don't understand why we have to spend our valuable time in the forums for days and nights to FIND HOW TO FIX THAT CRAB!! NOKIA company did not handout these devices FOR CHARITY.All of us had paid around a thousand dollars to buy this Phone. They have got to work overtime to fix it and publish a solution otherwise recall the devices back.

  • Weird battery measurement issue. [Lumia 920]

    Hello,
So a few hours ago I noticed that the battery was 9% (seemed pretty normal, since I recharged it only 2 days ago)
I decided to play a game or two to push the battery to it's limit to fully recharge it again.
Okay, afer an hour or so the screen went off and said "Goodbye". Seemed pretty straight forward, but I wanted to boot him up again just to check if everything of the battery was gone. I started it, and what do I see? 48% battery left. I thought it was some mistake to I played a game again for 30 minutes and noticed that it went down to 46%.
It looks like my phone thought the battery was dead while it still had half of it's power over?
First time I try to reboot after it shuting itself down cause of battery, so I can't say that this happend before (yet).
    Any idea what happened?
