Lumia 920 sound crackling & random reboot

I bought my lumia 920 two days ago.
I like it.. it is very impressive.
I have some problems and I would like to understand if they are related to software or hardware.
Obviously there is the problem of the random reboot. I am pretty sure it is software related, hope Nokia will fix this soon.
The other issue is a sound crackling when a sound start, it happen after a notification, playing games and playing music... apparently it doesn't affect Nokia music app.
The problem is not the speaker because it happen also with streaming audio via a2dp.
Do you think the sound issue is a software bug and Nokia/Microsoft will fix it?
Did you have the same problem?

it is very frustrating!
summarizing:
- notifications are crackling through the speaker
- notification are not crackling through the headphone
- in phone music is crackling through the speaker
- in phone music is crackling through the headphone
- streaming music is not crackling
- metrotube videos are not crackling
- taptitude game is not crackling (also tried other games)
- xbox extras is crackling a lot
I don't know what to think about!
It seem a software related issue to my eyes!

  • Nokia lumia 920 sound issues

I have a problem with the sound of my Nokia Lumia 920. I bought the phone back in June, this issue have only just start. The sound works when i get a text message, email and other notifications, it doesn't work when i play music or games, even when i type on the keyboard it just doesn't make any sound. I hope someone can help me with this problem. Thank you

    hi mate,
have you got the Portico update installed (check via Settings > Phone Update). also check that you are fully up to date with all the latest Nokia system apps in the Store. failing that, you can try soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates).

  • Lumia 920 NFC needed a reboot?

    Hello,
I was trying to use tap to share to send pictures, contacts, etc. My wife & I both have an AT&T Lumia 920. We had the phones for a few days before I got around to trying this. No matter how I held the phones, I couldn't get it to work. I removed the covers we had purchased for our phones. It still wouldn't work. I turned NFC off & back on. Still the receiving phone did nothing when I attempted to share from the source phone (and this is the behavior I'm describing when I said "it didn't work" above).
Finally I powered off both phones & then powered them on, and then it worked perfectly. That was a relief to know that the phones' NFC chips do indeed work.
However, I would like to know why this even happened. I don't know whether it was a software glitch or indicative of faulty hardware. I have not yet tried to use NFC again for probably 5 days since then, so I cannot confirm whether it's been working okay since. However, it seems to me that it is rather important for NFC to work well given the tap to pay & tap to share & tap to pair functionality that is being marketed for these phones (not to mention the Galaxy S3 NFC advertizing that is really capitalizing on NFC [which most people I talk to really seem impressed with]). The phones' NFC implementation needs to be solid & not buggy.
    So a few questions:
Is anyone else having this problem?
Should I start using NFC frequently to try to track whether the issue returns (this may drain my battery faster as I have NFC turned off to save battery since I'm not currently really using it, except incidentally).
Is this a hardware problem or a software problem?
Should I swap my phone out at AT&T? (I've only had it for 8 days so far)
Can Nokia confirm issues/bugs with the NFC implementation that would cause something like this, and if so, is a fix in the works, and if so, is there an ETA?
Thank you for taking the time to review my issue. I appreciate your feedback.
    Sincerely,

    Hi there,
I just recieved my Lumia 920 in the mail today and I was having trouble getting the NFC to work with the little test card they send with the phone. After a few trial and errors, I realized that the screen has to be illuminated. You don't have to unlock the screen, per se, you just have to touch the lock button to activate the screen and then NFC works immediately.
Now, you may have already known this, but being that I couldn't find any literature perscribing this, I thought sharing my findinds may be helpful to you or another reader.
    Cheers!

  • NOKIA LUMIA 920 reciever cannot hear me...

    Dear Michaels,
I contacted Lumia support in India for a sound issue i.e the reciever cannot hear me at all. This is for all networks contacting me. I am on Vodafone and using a blackberry at the same location the reciever can hear me well. I spoke to the tech support guys who advised me to take it to the repair centre. On saturday i decided to do a factory reset. Then the gears went on turning till sunday and my phone would not start or charge. I took it to the repair centre and told them about my issue. They opened my phone and said the phone has water damage and it is out of scope of warranty. I asked them how is it that the gears are still running when the phone is started and they could not answer and they returned my phone saying I have to pay them. I think this is ridiculous. I spend 38K on a phone and customer support says water damage which is impossible since the gears were still turning as you connected the phone to the charger. But the phone would not charge. I took the phone back home and restarted it and Voila it started working. However now my voice cannot be heard at all by the caller. So I basically have a big shiny brick in my hand. All calls are returned using a Blackberry Curve which is working suprisingly fine. Please advise I have mailed Nokia care in India they said simebody would get back to me no one has. It has been over 5 days since the email and 10 days since I have not been able to return a call.
Pretty frustrating. You can try calling me on 0091-xxxxxxxxx16 and see how bad the Nokia Lumia 920 sounds and then try me on my Curve at 0091-xxxxxxxxx96 and see the difference in clarity for your own self. Both are Vodafone sim cards.
    please help.

I sent my Nokia Lumina 822 to Nokia due to the fact I could not hear every now and then the person I called or called me.  I was told my Verizon to take battery out for a few seconds and then reinsert.  This worked for a while.  It eventually got worse.  I dealt with Nokia via chat on line and phone for a few weeks trying to resolve problem.  I realized my warrantee was up in ten days and discussed with them having the phone looked at.  Being on an extremely limited income, I could not afford the insurance.  The phone was sent back to me with a letter stating it had water damage and could not be fixed under warrantee.  Everything on my phone worked except what I have listed above when I sent the phone in.  Now I cannot even turn the phone on.  I should have received the phone back in the same condition it was when I sent to them.  Now they are giving me a run around that is beyond my comprehension.  They are rude and demand this is my fault.  I must have submerged in water, which I had not.  Now I have a phone that will not turn on.  This phone was synced with my computer and used on a daily basis when away from the house.  I cannot afford a new phone as I saved just to purchase this particular phone.  They say I have no recourse in this situation.  I am extremely tired of being taken advantage by Nokia and treated as a stupid old lady.  All I want is the phone back in previous condition.  Not much to ask for, right?

  • Lumia 920 random reboots and dropped mobile data a...

Hi! Wondering if anyone can shed some light on an issue I'm seeing with TWO Lumia 920 handsets?
Both were recently wiped for new users - full "reset your phone" option. After installing the Black update, the phones now randomly reset and reboot. In addition, they cannot seem to hold onto a data connection (either GPRS, 3G or H) - the mobile data connection works when the phone is first boot up, but loses connectivity some time later. Mobile data isn't restored unless the phone is turned off and on again. Totally scratching my head on this - and as it affects two phones, I'm pretty sure it isn't a faulty handset. Steps I've tried:
Swapping SIM cards around (including SIMS not associated with those two handsets)
Manually setting APN details (we're on Orange - also EE)
Installing Access Point app (which isn't installed as standard) for auto-configuration of APN
Toggling between 4G and 3G maximum connection speed settings
Manually selecting mobile network (i.e. disabling automatic network selection)
Wiping and resetting both phones (multiple times)
Installing fresh firmware image via the Nokia Software Recovery Tool
All these don't help! Frustratingly, everything works fine over WiFi - and I have observed that the random reboots only occur when data is being transmitted over mobile network. Both handsets belong to Orange UK (EE), and are updated with EE's approved Black firmware...
Anyone seen anything similar? Anyone come across a fix?!?

  • Lumia 920 Randomly Reboots / Cannot Be Turned Off

    Hello,
I have just bought a Lumia 920 today, and now have the problems described in the thread subject... Every few minutes while idle, the phone will power down and immediately power up again. This does render the phone useless to me...
When trying to shut it down to remove the SIM card I noticed I cannot even shut it off. It would instantly turn itself back on again.
Did anyone else notice this kind of behaviour from their Lumia 920 (or maybe other phones as well)? I was really looking forward to this device and this really ruins it for me
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Same thing on my Lumia 920 unit from ATT, received just today via online purchase. Began resetting within 30 minutes, and continues to do so, especially in places like voicemail and phone functions. Also fails to register initial settings like search engine (on every reset, goes back to Bing instead of Google) and other things I've had to re-configure 3 or 4 times. It took about four tries to get a Texas map database to download, despite using a home wi-fi right next to the wireless router.
I don't think this is a SIM problem at all, because the rests don't always take place in the phone section. And I've even turned the cell phone data feature off, and still the reboots. It MAY be the micro-USB connector, because since I've been charging the phone while initializing it, the resets happen with it inserted. But this is also the data cable, so if the unit resets all the time while moving huge chunks of desktop data, then it is useless. If the micro-USB connector is that rickety, more trouble is down the road.
This is a real shame, becuase I like the phone and was ready to switch from iPhone. Now I'm stuck with something I have to send back and try to get my old iPhone to work again, so at least I'll have some cell phone calls.
About eight hours of my time loading music, getting familiar, and configuring for my home desktop windows 8. If my Windows 8 desktop rebooted my machine eight times in only a few hours of initial usage, I'd be going back to old desktop as well.
Again, very sad, because this seemed to be a great phone with great features at a low-low price. I guess when it seems too good to be true, it is. iPhone may be falling behind in some ways, but at least it's been a reliable phone for three years.
Lucky I have 14 days money back, return to old phone, no questions asked. But it took less than half a day to figure out the phone didn't work.
About the only possible fix would be some firmware upgrade promised to fix it permanently, but they had better make a big deal about publicizing, or have a million returns on their hands.

  • Lumia 920 reboots and my voice in phone calls are ...

    Hi,
I received my Lumia 920 yesterday and experienced these errors right away:
    1. When I'm in a call, the person I talk to can't hear me. Instead it is metallic or bubbling sounds when I talk. From time to time, it is possible to have a conversation for a couple of seconds, but then the weird sounds starts again.
    2. The phone reboots by itself every now and then.
    3. I can see that the coverage disapears sometimes in the top left corner.
If I call with VoIP (Lync 2013 app) there are no audio problems.
I have been in contact with my carrier (Telia, Sweden) and have got a new SIM-card, but the problems persists.
I have also tried to change Max Connection speed to 2G which seemed to help at first, but then the phone just started to reboot over and over when I tried to call.
I have also tried to reset the phone to factory defalt, but the problem persists.
The audio problems persists regardless if I'm using the headset shipped with the phone or a bluetooth headset from Jabra.

    Hi,
Since you mentioned that you already reset the phone to its factory default it would be better if you're going to visit any local Nokia Care point. I belive the problem that you have will fall under hardware issue. It has something to do with the Microphone.
Just to make sure, you can also try to perform a software update. If it will not work, visit a local Nokia Care point so technician can evaluate your phone.

  • Lumia 720 - Defective Audio Jack and Random Reboot...

I purchased a Lumia 720 from Amazon.com in the US. After about a month, sound was only coming from one headphone. I thought it just might have been my headphones, but then I tried them in a friends phone and they worked fine. Other headphones didn't work either unless it was over Bluetooth. I have also been experiencing freezing and random reboots. A friends factory reset it for me several times and the issues still persist.
I need to send it in for repair; I did verify that it is in-warranty.

this is mainly a user to user forum only for Nokia products and services, so we are of limited assistance to you here unfortunately. in this case, all we can do is direct you to your nearest Nokia Care location for inspection, if there is none nearby, then try contacting Nokia head office in your country of residence.

  • List of issues: random reboots, sound issue, battery reading

    Hey all,
I am having the following issues with my Macbook (late 2007, running on Snow Leopard).
    1) The battery power indicator isn't giving a correct read. It remains stuck at 95% or 99% most of the time while the led on the battery cord is burning bright green for hours...
When I asked my local reseller if this could be related to my new bought battery, he checked the battery (which is under warranty) and informed that the battery was ok so he feared it would a more expensive issue inside my Macbook.
2)When I turn on my Macbook, the sound isn't working althought the soundbar is more then halfway open. When I increase or decrease the sound with one tap, it suddenly kicks in and works fine untill I turn the device off and o. Then it's the same old story all over again.
    3) My Macbook randomly reboots. Without any warning (atleast not visible to me) you suddenly the distinct hardware sound of a reboot, the grey load screen with the Apple logo appears and only a few seconds latter (it's much faster then a normal reboot/restart) I am at the inlog screen and have to log in again.
I am not sure but, it's possible that issue 2 & 3 showed up after I installed Snow Leopard. Don't know if it's relevant or not.
I am praying for this to be a software related issue, but I have a nasty gutt feeling that is going to be a nasty hardware issues
Any thoughts, idea's or wonder solutions?

I'll reply using the numbers aswell:
    1) But is it also normal for the Macbook to keep saying that the (3months old battery) is at 99% even when it has been fully loaded in advance and has been connected for 12 hours to the powergrid?
    2) I'll try to clearify:
You turn on the Macbook, according to the settings the sound is on yet programs like Adium and Mail don't produce sounds when it should be making a sound warning.
When you use the sound keys (either to increase or decrease the sound), the sound kicks in again.
Each time the device is turned back on this issue presents itself.
The device also doesn't seem to save the sound setting on which it is turned off, it simply resets to a setting at about 75 % of the volumebar.
3)I have been thinking that myself and have been expermenting with using the visitors account from time to time. However the reboots have been rare up till know (only 3 , max 4 times as far as I am aware) and only once (last night) when I was actually activly using the device.
This makes it rather annoying to downgrade or to switch main accounts permenantly for diagnostic purposes only. (I am not that familar with mac os to start doing this like downgrades at all to be honest)
Of the reboots I am 99.9% sure that they started after my upgrade to Snow Leopard.

  • Lumia 920: Incoming calls are missing sound

For a couple of days all incoming calls have been missing sound. After some trial and error I found that this can be fixed by  placing the call briefly on hold and then taking it off hold. Outgoing calls have sound normally. This would indicate that some setting for incoming calls has not been properly reset. How can this issue be fixed? The phone has been restarted several times.
My phone is Lumia 920 with the latest Portico update installed (the problems actually started before the update and continued after it).

Have you tried a factory reset? OR even changing your sim card..
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

Recently i bought a Lumia 920. By a day after i updated it successfully. After that my Lumia reboots itself by its own. Sometimes twice a day, and some, day once. It’s around 10 days now. Please let me know what should i do.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If your phone keeps on rebooting, you can try this: Press and hold both the Volume down and the Power keys for 15 seconds. This should get your phone to restart and respond properly again. If this does not help, please make sure that the phone runs its latest software.  Go to the Settings > Phone Updates > Check for updates.
If none of the above troubleshootings work, then we have to consider doing an OS reset.
Warning: Resetting your phone will return it to the same state it was in the first time you turned it on. All your personal content in the phone, including text messages and apps that you been purchased and downloaded (may be re-downloaded again) will be erased, and the phone will be restore to the factory settings.
Here are two options to follow, depending on whether you can access your phone's Settings screen or not.
To avoid deletion of your files, you have to do a backup.
    • For the applications, go to Settings > Backup > Applist + Settings > Backup On > Backup Now.
    • For messages, go to Settings > Backup > Text messages > Text Backup > On.
    • For your music and videos, Go to Settings > Backup > Photos / Videos > to maintain the quality of your media files, you can select Best Quality but you have to be connected to WiFi.
    Option 1: About menu
Use this option if you can access your phone's settings.
This option warns about data loss.
On the Start screen, swipe left, select Settings > About > Reset your phone.
    Option 2: Hardware key combination
Use this option if you forget or lose the password.
Use this option if the phone fails to fully switch on when pressing the power on key.
Note: No warning about data loss!
    Step 1
Make sure the charger is disconnected.
    1. Switch the power Off.
    2. Press and hold the Volume down and connect the charger, if succeed an exclamation mark (!) is shown on the screen.
    Step 2
Then input Keys in the following order:
    1. Volume up
    2. Volume down
    3. Power
    4. Volume down
    Step 3
The phone will reset and boot up automatically. Please note that this may take several minutes.

  • Lumia 920 Rebooting itself

    Hi,
I hope someone may help me here, i got a Yellow Lumia 920 beginning April. Everything was ok then suddenly it would reboot for no apparent reason, one evening alone SIX reboots in an hour!
I sent to Vodafone repair, apparently they couldnt find anything wrong. They stated they'd flashed the firmware and os to the latest edition.
Unfortunately it came back from repair with a crack in screen so got sent away again.  It's now back, new screen and casing, flashed to apparently up to date software.....last night it rebooted itself again...
What can be done about this???

Have you tried if the phone reboots without SIM? if not I'd suggest getting a new SIM especially if you cut your SIM down to mini format yourself.
