Lumia 920 support for LTE in Korea

So I purchased an unlocked version of the lumia 920 from an online retailer and just received it today. I popped in my 3G sim that I was using with another phone and it connected fine and well. 3G speeds were fairly fast. 4g speeds are very fast in Korea for phones that are sold here and want to experience those speeds on my new phone. I would like to upgrade to a 4G sim with accompaning plan with my current carrier in Korea, but my question is if it is even possible to do this...
After doing some research, I found some websites with some interesting information...
seekingalpha.com/article/1071481-nokia-lumia-920-there-is-a-non-lte-version-nokia-forgot-to-tell-inv...
www.expansys.com/blog/?p=2096
According to the above sites, 4g is disabled in the firmware for factory unlocked phones. Is this true?
It also showed a set of pictues of the packaging's device labels - one showing the 4g lte bands and one without.
Checking my phone's box and it is without the 4g lte frequency information.
Both of these sites mention something about Nokia "working with the carrier" to provide an update that'll make the phone compatible with that carrier's 4g network. Is this accurate information? In the best case, i could just buy a 4g sim, change to an accompaning 4g plan, replace sims in the phone and have 4g connectivity.
But if 4g is disabled for persons who purchase global unlocked  versions and want to use it where nokia has near to no presence in (Korea for me) and like the above site says - have to wait for nokia and the carrier to provide an update, what steps have to be taken for 4g to be enabled? Do I have to make a formal request somewhere? Is there an automation process where this update is automatically generated? Or would I have to just wait and pray for something to happen...
Being a Nokia fan in Korea has its rare downs.

Hi mate,
Yes if you have purchased a version of the 920 from overseas that has LTE disabled for the moment (due to the fact that the 920 variant that you have purchased is made for a market where 4G is not yet available e.g. the case with the 920 I have that is for Great Britain), then the LTE functionality will be enabled in a future update that is for sure, when LTE service is available in that variant's country.
Have you checked if you already have 4G on your 920? Goto Settings > Mobile Network, and check under "Highest connection speed" if there is a 4G under the 3G and 2G already there. If it is really bothering you though and there is no update on the situation after a couple of months or you wish to do it now, please contact your local Nokia by clicking the Nokia Support link at the bottom of this page.
Hope this information helps you.

Guess what, all these apps are created for iPhone, a device which does not support flash. So it should be obvious to anyone that supporting flash is not a prerequisite to developing these apps. There are apps in Microsoft store which allow you to view iPlayer, TV catchup and most online TV channels just fine on a Windows Phone 7.5 device.
While the app in question (Plex) would require a home-run server it does prove the point that it would be trivial to support Windows Phone for any of these channels.
Again, it's the BBC and others who simply choose not to support Windows Phone and not any technical reason which would make it impossible.
I know there are apps for ios, which makes sense seeing how it is popular, but leaving it out of wp8 makes no sense with less than 2% of all sales, of course no one is going to make the effort to make an app for it.
I say again, there is no technical reason to leave out the latest version of flash, seeing how it works on my n8. I shouldn't have to download apps to do the most basic of things. I am one of a big number of people who do not want / like to download apps, so why shouldn't we have access to content, that works on older devices.

  • What types of NFC tags does the Lumia 920 support?

I bought some Mifare Classic 1k tags online hoping I could write and read some custom tags with the few apps on the marketplace but it doesn't seem the Nokia interacts with them well.
    I found this on wikipedia.
"At the moment BlackBerry phones and the Nokia Lumia 610 can't read/write Tectile stickers ". (which are apparently based on Mifare Classic.)
I have found no other mention of what types of tags are supported, so that is my question. What types of tags are guaranteed to work with the 920?

I've run some NFC tests with the 920 because I run an NFC marketing platform.
I wrote a review about the Lumia 920 NFC implementation http://www.tagonic.com/latest/easyblog/entry/nokia-lumia-920
Although this doesn't cover specific NFC tags I can confirm that it works well with MiFare UL tags. The use case of receiving a contact directly, and directing to web destinations works well.
Interestingly we haven't managed to successfully initiate a pairing with other NFC accessories (BH505 headphones or the 360 Speaker) at all. We'd be interested to know if anyone else has this issue.
But from a tag perspective we are confident that the Lumia 920 works with the MiFare UL tags.
Feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you are looking for some tags that you want to program to go to a web destination. We'd supply them pre-programmed and you can virtually re-program them using the platform as opposed to having to physically re-write the tags.

  • Lumia 920 Updates for Middle East

I have Lumia 920 and I live in Oman. Windows Phone 8 website says the latest released updates ver is 8.0.10211.204. While my phone showing 8.0.9903.10. When latest updates will be available for this region ? Anyone ? Also when all the paid Apps will be available for this region too ?

    hi mate,
i think i answered your question a few minutes ago regarding paid apps. Again, this has nothing to do with Nokia but everything to do with Microsoft so you will need to contact them.
As for the Portico update, Nokia has stated officially that the roll-out has begun, and is anticipated to be completed by mid-March. Sit tight and the update will arrive, your phone will automatically notify you when it is available.

  • Does the Nokia Lumia 920 support APTX?

I am wondering as I am looking into purchasing the HS3000 to use my S4 headphones but if the phone doesnt support aptx i will probably pick up the mw600 with fm built in.

Apparently not from reports ive read..Currently they are , v3.1 with A2DP, EDR APTX needs 4.0
The 820/920 have got 4.0 certification so hopefully later on they will have it out of box.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Lumia 800 - support for Fast Dormancy (for longer ...

    Hi,
does the Lumia 800 use Network Controlled Fast Dormancy?
My Provider doesn´t support it and the battery of my Android Phone goes down really fast - because "Fast Dormancy" only extends battery-lIfe if phone AND provider support it.
Otherwise it will cause exaclty the opposite - like in my case...

The Big M.. does that mean the answer is 'No'?

  • Any news on Lenovo support for LTE 4G from ATT and/or Verizon?

I'm getting close to ordering several T410 notebooks, but I came up with another reason to wait:
As far as I can tell, Lenovo is currently installing WiMax 4G modems in the T410, but not the Qualcomm Gobi MDM9600 LTE 4G modem that supports both future LTE 4G service from ATT and Verizon and current 3G service from both carriers.  I would prefer to have a 4G LTE modem, not WiMax.
Anyone know if Lenovo has any plans to start installing 4G LTE modems?
The other option would be to get the current Gobi 2000 modem and just upgrade it later myself- is that sort of upgrade an easy card swap, or something harder (I'm thinking built-in 3G antennas may cause problems if I try to upgrade to LTE later).
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
    Rob

I'm interested as well. We are planning some X201 and T400 purchases.

  • Movies on Lumia (920)

    Hi all,
I am wondering if it's possible to put movies (for example avi format) on the Lumia (920) and more important how? I can't find my phone in "my computer" on my laptop and that way i cant't copy and paste files/ movies etc from my computer to my phone.
Hopefully somebody can help me out. I love to watch movies and series on my phone when travelling, but can't get it working.
    Thanks in advance!

The Lumia 920 supports the following video formats for playback
    3GPP formats (H.263), ASF, H.264/AVC, M4V, MPEG-4, VC-1, WMV 9
To connect your Lumia 920 to a PC you need Win 7 or Win 8 and you can then download and install the Windows Phone app for desktop to allow the synching of files between your phone and a PC/laptop.
    http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/how-to/wp8/windows-phone-app-for-desktop
Your phone should also show up in Win explorer so you can drag and drop files to their respective folders on the phone.

  • Lumia 920 camera suddenly not working after app up...

I have had yellow Lumia 920 now for about 3 weeks and everything worked just fine. Yesterday evening (european time) I saw update reminders on the "shop" tile and there were 3 or 4 of them (Nokia drive+ and some others that I don't remember). I was doing something and didn't give a thought but just let the updates to be downloaded and installed and they went fine as far as I know. Today when I tried to take photos the camera suddenly dosen't work anymore. No matter if I click the hardware button or the camera app tile, it just flip back to live tiles. Camera doesn't work on Bing search either and not on any apps that utilized the camera.
I wonder if anyone else have this problem or what I should do next... I have restart the phone a few times but it didn't help... I haven't hard reset it because I have so many stuff in the phone, if there is a easy way to do it I rather not hard reset it...
    Any suggestions are greatly welcome!

I have the same problem. I am not sure if an app update is what caused this, but my camera on my new Cyan Nokia Lumia 920 has stopped working. I took two photos yesterday, but when I tried to take some today my camera was a completely black screen with the bottom buttons grayed out and the top bottom to view recent pictures highlighted and still working. I don't know what to do because I purchased this phone off of Ebay and everything worked fine after I purchased it. I'm hoping I didn't get a faulty phone.
I have tried everything.... soft reset, deleting all the camera apps, and tried to reset the camera. I want to avoid doing a hard reset because it bricked my last Nokia and I don't want that to happen.
The only way I can use my camera is through an app, Nokia Glam Me. But it only uses FFC (front facing camera)
I don't know what else I should do.
    Help. Please...

  • Cannot connect Lumia 920 to Windows 7

When I check Device Manager, I keep getting "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" and the device is a "RM-821|Nokia Lumia 920". I have restarted both Phone and laptop several times. I did connect succesfully to my HTC Radar.
I dont even get the "Charging" symbol on my Lumia.
Connecting My Lumia to another laptop running Windows 8 works just fine.
How can I install the correct driver, and from where to I get it? I expected to get it from Windows Update as it should "just works".
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Lumia 920 recording error.

We are big Lumia 920 fans in New York! . And I finally convinced my wife to upgrade from the HTC Titan and of course now I am having  a problem with my wife's Lumia 920.
For no apparent reason, though you are in the video recording mode  (time indicator running), the phone will not be recording. The video file is just not there. I have done a soft re-set a few times and has all current updates.  But it continues to happen on an inconsistent basis and she uses her phone for recording video at work and so it'a big problem. Some times the phone will freeze, and other times it just continues and you think you are recording but nothing.
Anybody experienced this? Is my next step a hard reset?
    Thank you for any input!
    Tim

Thank you for the response. It is very appreciated.
I will give the hard reset a go!
    Thank you
    Tim

  • Lumia 920 unsharp photo's

I'm glad with my new phone. And it works quite properly except the camera. Although, i presume that it doesn't wortk properly. Every picture that i take does have unsharp edges. My previous phone, the one-x was way better. Is this just how good the camera is, or is there a way to make the photo's sharper?

    Hi Billy_Turf,
Thank you for posting and welcome to the forum.
Glad to hear that you are loving your Nokia Lumia 920.
For better photo quality, we recommed you to play around with the camera settings of the phone until you get your desired quality. The Nokia Lumia 920 captures more light than any other smartphone because of the camera design making it possible to keep the camera shutter open longer. This means lesser light is needed. Try turning off the flash or set it to automatic then compare the results if it improved.
You may also check the camera itself, make sure that nothing is blocking the lens like dust, casing or protective cover. Any obstruction will greatly affect the image quality.
It is also recommended to keep the device sotware up-to-date. You can check the availability of software updates by going to Settings > Phone Update > Check for updates.
    Hope it'll help.

  • MHL/DLNA support for Lumia 920 in the future?

Anyone know if there are any plans to support MHL and/or DLNA on the Lumia 920 in the future either as a HW specific feature from Nokia or as a platform feature from MS?
    Thanks.

On page 3 of the 920 service schematics are two lines labeled VDD_HDMI. I would (naively) guess this has something to do with HDMI video output (and thus MHL). Do you know what it's for?

  • Lte support for lumia 1520 model in india

    hi,
am planning to buy the lumia 1520 here in india.
What is the model number [ rm 937 or rm 938 or rm 939 or rm 940 ] of the model sold officially in india ?
does this model have support for 4g/lte networks, irrespective of the fact that carriers in india currently do not offer 4g/lte networks ?
is it true that even if the model has 4g/lte support, it is disabled for sale in india ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi hardisk88,
Welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions!
The RM model compatible with India is RM-937. The phone supports LTE frequency bands, however your network provider should also support this service to enjoy LTE connections using your Lumia 1520 in India. Here's the supported LTE frequency bands: LTE bands: 2100, 1800, 2600, 900, 200.
    Hope this helps.
