The tools you have used are for use by authorised service personnel only and you should not be playing with them as you can do more damage than good.
You can try a full reinstall of your handset firmware with the officially endorsed for consumer use Nokia Software Recovery Tool
If that does not help take your handset to your nearest Nokia Care facility to have it checked and repaired.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 Home button not working

I was using my phone as usual and suddenly the home button stopped working.  I was on Facebook, wanted to go to the start screen because I had just received a text message and I realized the home button was completely unresponsive.  I tried a soft and hard reset and it still doesn't work.  The button lights up as it's supposed to.  The phone hasn't been dropped or has received any major (or minor, in that case) damage.

Hello, marurokz. Are the other capacitive buttons (Search & Back) of your Lumia 920 working fine? Do you have any screen protector covering the Start button of your phone? If yes, try removing that portion for a while and see if it'll work. BTW, is your phone's SW updated? Check it by going to Settings > phone update. Keeping your Lumia 920's SW updated helps assure that all of its features are fully functional.
We'll wait for your response. BTW, welcome to the Microsoft Mobile Community!

  • Lumia 920 soft buttons not working after wireless ...

I am having this new problem after I did amber update. Since then, whenever I place the phone on charge plate and take it from it, the soft buttons wont work unless I restart the phone. Its working fine before the update. Its an US AT&T phone.
Does anyone have the same issue with their's after the update? or is there any resolution for this?
    thanks

I have the same problem. I am not sure if an app update is what caused this, but my camera on my new Cyan Nokia Lumia 920 has stopped working. I took two photos yesterday, but when I tried to take some today my camera was a completely black screen with the bottom buttons grayed out and the top bottom to view recent pictures highlighted and still working. I don't know what to do because I purchased this phone off of Ebay and everything worked fine after I purchased it. I'm hoping I didn't get a faulty phone.
I have tried everything.... soft reset, deleting all the camera apps, and tried to reset the camera. I want to avoid doing a hard reset because it bricked my last Nokia and I don't want that to happen.
The only way I can use my camera is through an app, Nokia Glam Me. But it only uses FFC (front facing camera)
I don't know what else I should do.
    Help. Please...

  • Lumia 920 Power Button and Flash Stopped Working

The power button and camera flash randomly stopped working on my Lumia 920. The phone itself still works (I can tap to wake it and use it normally) but the power button does nothing when pressed. I tried letting the battery drain completely then let it re-charge overnight to no avail. I also attempted to perform a factory reset but the issue persists. I contacted both AT&T and Nokia Support but they are no help at all.

    hi mate,
sorry to hear that you are still having issues. in this case, there may be some hardware/software damage to your handset, and in this case it is best to contact Nokia Care directly. you can do this by clicking the Nokia Support link at the bottom of this page, or on Twitter via @NokiaHelps.

  • Lumia 920 NFC needed a reboot?

    Hello,
I was trying to use tap to share to send pictures, contacts, etc. My wife & I both have an AT&T Lumia 920. We had the phones for a few days before I got around to trying this. No matter how I held the phones, I couldn't get it to work. I removed the covers we had purchased for our phones. It still wouldn't work. I turned NFC off & back on. Still the receiving phone did nothing when I attempted to share from the source phone (and this is the behavior I'm describing when I said "it didn't work" above).
Finally I powered off both phones & then powered them on, and then it worked perfectly. That was a relief to know that the phones' NFC chips do indeed work.
However, I would like to know why this even happened. I don't know whether it was a software glitch or indicative of faulty hardware. I have not yet tried to use NFC again for probably 5 days since then, so I cannot confirm whether it's been working okay since. However, it seems to me that it is rather important for NFC to work well given the tap to pay & tap to share & tap to pair functionality that is being marketed for these phones (not to mention the Galaxy S3 NFC advertizing that is really capitalizing on NFC [which most people I talk to really seem impressed with]). The phones' NFC implementation needs to be solid & not buggy.
    So a few questions:
Is anyone else having this problem?
Should I start using NFC frequently to try to track whether the issue returns (this may drain my battery faster as I have NFC turned off to save battery since I'm not currently really using it, except incidentally).
Is this a hardware problem or a software problem?
Should I swap my phone out at AT&T? (I've only had it for 8 days so far)
Can Nokia confirm issues/bugs with the NFC implementation that would cause something like this, and if so, is a fix in the works, and if so, is there an ETA?
Thank you for taking the time to review my issue. I appreciate your feedback.
    Sincerely,

    Hi there,
I just recieved my Lumia 920 in the mail today and I was having trouble getting the NFC to work with the little test card they send with the phone. After a few trial and errors, I realized that the screen has to be illuminated. You don't have to unlock the screen, per se, you just have to touch the lock button to activate the screen and then NFC works immediately.
Now, you may have already known this, but being that I couldn't find any literature perscribing this, I thought sharing my findinds may be helpful to you or another reader.
    Cheers!

  • AT&T Lumia 920 - 2 Freezes in a few days maybe rel...

    Hello,
I've been using my AT&T Lumia 920 for 8 days. Within the first week I have had 2 freezes. Both were while using Bluetooth, but that may be coincidental.
I am not happy about these glitches as I was previously using an AT&T Lumia 900 since April, and it never had problems like this. I expect the 920 to be an upgrade in every regard.
    I am seeking:
An explanation as to the cause of these issues.
A permanent solution that will prevent these issues from recurring
The specifics of the 2 incidences are:
    First incident:
I was driving & talking on my phone with my Plantronics Voyager Bluetooth headset. I parked at BestBuy & went inside continuing my phone call. In less than 60 seconds, I realized that it seemed like the person on the other end of the phone was being too quite. So I thought maybe the call dropped. I pulled the phone out of my belt holster & found that it showed that the call was still connected. But I could hear nothing. The screen was essentially non-responsive. Within about 1 minute, my screen went black & I couldn't get the phone to do anything. I kept trying to to a soft reset like I did with my Lumia 900 a few times (power button + volume up). This didn't work (I have later learned that the Lumia 920 uses a different button combinatino (power button + volume down). I gave up using my phone & asked the Geek Squad boys if I could use their phone to call my customer back to finish the discussion so that I could confirm I was purchasing the correct product for him. About 30-60 minutes later, I was still periodically trying to figure out how to get my phone to come back to life. I pressed & held two buttons (presumably power + volume down). The phone vibrated & rebooted. Thank goodness.
    Second incident:
I was traveling & dictating an email (which I'm glad that Windows Phone 8 now lets us dictate outside of TXT messages. :-). My first attempt returned no results. I then pressed the microphone button again & retry dictating. At this point, it did something unexpected (I really don't recall the exact specifics). From that point, further attempts to dictate did absolutely nothing. I then decided that I'd just type the email instead. I picked up the phone & pressed in the body of the email. The onscreen keyboard appeared. But none of the keys actually typed or did anything. At this point (of course a bit irritated), I tried to get out of the email, and realized that the phone would not really let me do anything. It displayed the empty email and gave me a flashing cursor, but no buttons or keys would do anything. It was like they were all being ignored by the phone. Then I had this though.... After my previous lock-up, I had read a little bit online that some Lumia 920 users had experienced lock ups when using bluetooth. So I thought, maybe if I power off my bluetooth headset, the phone will break the bluetooth connection & maybe will release control of the phone back to me. So I powered off my bluetooth headset. Sure enough, the phone immediately returned to normal (although it did first quickly make a couple of sounds & display regarding the dictation [like basically the last time I pressed the microphone button, dictation wasn't able to come up, so now it finally did come up & then went away again all within about 1 second]). After powering off the bluetooth headset, my phone has been fine. No need to reboot. A few days have passed with no more issues.
    So in summary:
Is there a problem with the phone's bluetooth support?
Is there a problem with my headset (I don't think so, it works on other phones just fine, and it works on this phone 98% of the time without problems)?
Who is going to fix the bluetooth problems & when (Nokia or Microsoft)?
Can they be fixed, or are they problems inherent with the phone's bluetooth chip which are irreparable?
Is there any sense in me going back to the AT&T store & swapping for another Lumia 920? (I don't think so. Seems like most everything else with the phone works well [I've had a few other isolated incidents with other things, but so far I've written them off as software glitches that Microsoft or Nokia will fix with time]).
Who should I be reporting this issue to (AT&T? Nokia? Microsoft?)? What is the correct support channel to get the issue resolved most quickly? (I am very willing to work with a competent tech support person to troubleshoot & track the issue over time if necessary in order to help facilitate identifying the root cause of the issue so that a proper permanent fix can be implemented by Nokia or Microsoft.
Have any other users experienced this same problem?
Thanks for your time in reviewing my issue. I have been very excited & enthusiastic about the Lumia 920 & Windows Phone 8. I have tried to promote it with my friends and family. However, when I hit an issue like this which didn't exist on my Lumia 900, I find myself feeling a bit embarassed & frustrated.
By the way, to my knowledge I didn't have any other programs running on my phone during either of these incidents (definitely nothing else running in the foreground).
    Sincerely,
    Doug Mortensen

Don't expect support here. Nokia does not bother to pay a tech or two to support the people who have bought the 920. Not really a point to these forums.
Anyways, i have huge bt issues as well. Cannot connect or see my jawbone. In truck with pioneer nav system (it is illegal here to use a phone without handsfree in vehicle) it links, but when i make a call or receive a call it shows the phone off the receiver icon so it knows call in progress, but i either get no sound from the caller... at all, or i get a robotic mess i cannot decipher. when i cannot hear anything, people can hear me, but when i hear robotic, people can hear me but with distortion. However, when it reads a text message, the phone voice is fine through the system. Because i have to turn bt off then to use phone, i have to return this handset and just go back to android.
Have also had this drop calls a few times now as reception is probably the worst i have seen in a decade... even drops in downtown core. Battery life poor because i assume its always struggling for a signal.

  • Lumia 920 system failed

I just got lumia 920 5days ago and now I can't access to my phone settings.
Can't even go into settings to open wifi or other things.
    Tried soft reset also can't.
Tried My Window Phone to remote erase phone also can't.
    Here is the link:
    http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqGHcGG6UHk

There are a few other rests you can try if you wish. Before doing so be aware of the fact that unkess you have a backuo, your data may be lost in the process. The reset I suggest you start with is the 4 button reset. If this doesnt work there is another you can try but have a go with this one first. Thist reset is as follows.
With the phone powered off, press and hold all 4 buttons on the side of the phone. Release the power button only when the phone vibrates and release remaining buttons 5 seconds after thst. If this doesnt work come back and let me know and we could have a look at the next reset.

    hi mate,
have you got the Portico update installed (check via Settings > Phone Update). also check that you are fully up to date with all the latest Nokia system apps in the Store. failing that, you can try soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates).

  • Discovered cause of Battery Drain lumia 920/820

    Hi,
I just registered to tell you following:
I discovered the culprit that is responsible for the "semi random" battery drain.
@Home my Lumia 820 "shines" with a good battery life.
    @Work:
    - without any additional Installed app
    - no active background task (except standard entries: "extras+info" and Nokia Music)
    - every (backround)sync disabled (mail, also xbox, music.....)
    - display low
    - disabled location service
    - closing all apps with multiple clicks on back-button
    - uninstalled skype
    - disabled apps @ lockscreen
    - battery saver on
    - backup disabled
    - nfc disabled
    - microsoft account sync only 1x per day
    - disabled roaming (my provider is a roaming monster :-) roams into networks of other providers).
    - 2x fully discharged + fully charged + 12 hours on powersupply
    - and every other suggested energysave option/action i could find on internet and here in forum -> except hardreset
With all above mentioned methods the battery still gets/got literally eaten away at work in IDLE.
I had it next to me with monitor off. Only checked once per hour and it died in ~8-11 hours. No call no message no nothing.
I was curious why it only happens at work: The difference of the network coverage is, that at home it is far more inferior. I have to search for a spot in my house where i can use it for calling somebody.
So Internet is not even an option (also no HSPA+ coverage throughout the village). Normally you would have less battery life at places with less connectivity. But not in that case.
I investigated further: on the way to work I use it for surfing ~50min - 1hour -> there i loose 7-9% of my battery. (very good result for driving with car => many connection losses)
As soon as I reach the city where the Lumia reaches the HSPA+ network it begins to drain veery fast.
HSPA+ needs much more power than UMTS and I guess normal HSPA!
I compared the behaviour with the Samsung Galaxy S3 (colleague's phone) and noticed a small but profound difference:
After you "wake" the S3 from idle it will show on the screen, that it uses UMTS and not HSPA/HSPA+... as soon as you start surfing or start an app that connects to the internet the S3 switches immediately to HSPA+. After a little time the Samsung switches back to UMTS.
The lumia behaves differently: It detects HSPA+ and uses it. Also in idle!?
I followed this obvious lead and wanted to disable HSPA/HSPA+ -> unfortunately it only lets you disable 3g as a whole (UMTS/HSPA) so I switched to 2G only.
While I am writing this my L820 is unplugged 6hours now and
after much heavier use than normal (mailing, surfing with 3g while driving 45min home [which dropped the charging-level multiple times faster than gaming!], 1h gaming, 10 minutes calling)
the remaining battery life is at 70% with estimated time remaining: 1day 7hours left (after writing the whole story it went up to 2days 4hours with 69%... but i guess thats because its idleing).
This behaviour is also the explanation why some people are affected and some aren't.
Summary of change: from initially 8hours idle and not even touching the phone -> to finally using it now with 70% after 6hours with 1day 7hours time remaining.
Additional info: I live in Austria (Europe; no kangaroos ;-)) --> so I have a Lumia 820 with the german firmware without the update, which was released in USA and Canada:
    Revision: 1232.2109.1242.1001
So please implement a similar function like the Samsung S3 ... or just as a start: let us manually turn off UMTS, HSPA and HSPA+ separately! Surfing with 2g is no fun.
Sorry for the extensive and long story/facts ;-)
    Regards
    V4mp

I can confirm that my battery drain problem is related to LTE  on my US Lumia 920, at home where signal is weak I get fantastic battery life, less than 2% drain an hour, lasts for well over a day with moderate usage. My work however is located in an LTE zone and as soon as I enter this area battery life becomes catastrophically bad, several times the phone has died on me before my shift even ends. Something like 15% drain per hour, sometimes worse., I pick up my phone and even though it has been completely idle for hours it is a bit warm to the touch. I have no idea what it is doing when it is just sitting there.
Trust me, I have tried all the tips from all the other users, none have worked. This is not a problem with background applications or some feature being switched on, I have tested this phone running bare bones no apps or a fully day on "battery saver" mode which seems to make no difference, the problem persists. The only way I can make it through the workday is if I put my phone into Airplane Mode, the drain then completely stops, again at less than 2% an hour.
I am amazingly frustrated by all this, my Lumia 900 never had this problem with LTE, I almost never gave the battery a second thought with my 900, but with the 920 I am constantly worried about being stuck with a dead phone, I have almost no apps installed on the phone because I am afraid of any additional drain on the battery. I have to put my phone in Airplane Mode if I plan on spending more than an hour in the civilized world, I am so unhappy with my experience and I really miss my Lumia 900. I really wish Nokia would acknowledge that this a problem with some 920 handsets, and it is a problem, we are all not suffering from some sort of mass delusion. I have spent weeks troubleshooting and trying to find the cause. I really don't know what to do at this point.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 reset methods

    Dec 3 2012
Various discussions present varied methods of resetting the phone, including 2-buttion and 3-button alternatives. This date User Guide on page 95 describes the following:
    If your phone isn't responding
    Do the following:
    • Press and hold the volume down key and power key at the same time for about 10 seconds. The
phone switches off. To switch your phone back on, press and hold the power key.
    • Update your phone software.
    • Reset your phone. This restores the factory settings, and erases all your personal content,
including apps you've purchased and downloaded. On the start screen, swipe left, and tap
    Settings>about > reset your phone.
The first 2-key reset method, I've found is also achieved by simply holding down only the power key, which begins  a simple power-off, or switch off, function. Next is presented a "slide down to power off" top-half screen, which one swipes downward. That's it.

why my Lumia 920 takes shots in resolution 720x1278 instead of 3553 x 2448 and I cannot find the way to change in the settings. Is it a bug?

Has nothing to do with Corporal_Hicks said, that is for auto-uploading and backup of photos that you have taken.
Are you sure you are not using the front facing camera but the back one? Try Resetting the Camera in the Settings under: Settings > Applications > Photos + Camera, and if that doesn't work, a soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together at the same time until the phone vibrates).
Let us know how you get on.

  • Lumia 920 - Is it Necessary to Unlock Screen to Us...

Has anyone else found that they need to unlock the lock screen before their BT car kit will make or receive calls.
I can't believe that I'm the only person who has this problem with the Lumia 920!
The phone connects fine with my car kit and the car display shows the contacts ok but the phone is unresponsive to the steering wheel controls until the phone lock screen has been unlocked.
This means that I can neither make nor receive calls without first touching the phone.

    Hi Adrian,
Thanks for the suggestions.  I have checked to make sure that I've got the latest phone updates via the option in the Settings section.  I'm not sure if that includes firmware updates - are these automatically installed also, or do I need to download them separately?
By a soft reset, do you mean turning the phone off and then restarting?  If so, I have tried that several times.
Is it normal to be able to answer via the bluethooth car audio when the Lumia  is locked?  I wasn't sure if I needed to use a voice command or something.  An incoming call activates the car's audio, and I can even hear a ringing tone on the car audio, but clicking on the "phone" button on the car dash doesn't answer it unless the phone is unlocked.
    Thanks
