Lumia 925 - GPS inaccurate after WP8.1 update

I have been using my Lumia 925 to track my jogs for half a year (using Sportstracker and Endomondo apps). Also, I use a separate sports clock with GPS. My phone and the sports clock have been givin really similar results. Couple of weeks back I updated my phone with WP8.1. After the update, my Lumia 925 has started giving me much longer distances (about 500 metres difference on a 10 km run) on my jogs compared to the sports clock. When looking into the tracked routes of the runs on the map, it can be clearly seen that the route is not as accurate as they used to be.
Did the WP8.1 update do some changes to the GPS finctionality, and how this issue could be solved?

interesting. not sure if any behaviour has changed with the WP8.1 update, but have u checked you are up to date with the latest firmware version and also the latest Nokia system app updates from the Store?also try performing a soft reset, and see if anyone else has reported this bug to SportsTracker or Endomondo.

  • Lumia 800 really buggy after last update

So far I've had very few issues with the Lumia 800, even though I got one of the very early models. However, after installing the latest update (7.10.8773.98 / 1750.0805.8773.12220) things have really taken a turn for the worse.
The issues I've encountered so far are:
    General:
    - Automatic email synchronization stops working, or works in seemingly random intervals
    - A calendar notification sounds but no message is displayed. Then a couple of minutes later the notification sounds again, this time with the option of acknowledging the reminder.
    - Applications keep crashing on startup; for example email, contacts, weatherduck
    Battery life:
    - The next day after the update the phone was running very hot and the battery ran out in about two hours of absolutely no use. This hasn't occurred since.
    Settings / Accounts & Email:
    - Unable to change email settings (for example, trying to save a different interval does absolutely nothing)
    - Windows Live - unable to sync, Error code 80070490
    - Twitter - unable to connect, Error code 0
    - LinkedIn - unable to connect, Error code 0
    - So basically everything except Facebook is not working
So, all in all I'd say someone has done a great job testing the update.

Hello, and thanks for the reply.
I'm sure there are phones that are working perfectly, it would be doubtful that the update would have been released otherwise. But as you must know, there is a large number of settings combinations (and even apps) that may cause different devices to behave in different ways.
Allow me to clarify: all of the symptoms I described occurred after the update, and none of them existed before, apart from the occasional "phone running hot and battery running out" issue. That is probably due to some background task running amok, but it can always be fixed with a reboot and a recharge.
To answer your specific questions - I have not changed the live account password, or any of the other accounts. And obviously I have rebooted, since the battery ran completely empty. In fact another thing that I forgot to mention was that the phone has rebooted itself a couple of times as well after the update, which was a new issue. Neither have I installed any new apps since the update. I have three apps that are enabled to run in the background; Evernote, IMDb and WeatherDuck, but none of them are running at the moment. And none of them have caused any issues in the past, and it's extremely doubtful that they could affect the entire system so drastically, other than by consuming memory or cpu and causing resource shortages or battery drain.
Also if you take a look at some of the other posts on the forum you'll see that other people have reported similar problems - I found one discussion detailing the exact same thing happening with their email account.

  • Delayed GPS fix after BELLE update

    Hello
after i updated my N8  to nokia BELLE ,i noticed that the GPS fix is incredibly delayed .or  there is no fix even in opened areas.
    can any one help please.

    20 to 30 minutes ? DD
After travelling thousands of miles or not using GPS for a month or so it might take about 5 to 10 minutes for getting a first fix with integrated GPS only. All following fixes should be done within 2 minutes absolute maximum.
I did not see any GPS slowdowns after upgrading to Belle. It's all like it has been before.

  • Lumia 820 battery drain after "Black" update

    Hi all,
Yesterday I finally received the black update on my NL820. After applying the update successfully I charged the phone to %100. Before I went to bed I had:
    Battery at %94
    Wifi - Off
    Data services - Off
    Location services - Off
    Bluetooth - Off
    Battery Saver - On
This morning I wake up and it is unusually bright outside - the phone powered off, the alarm didn't go off and I overslept for work. I haven't touched any other settings after the update. Everything is the way I used it before. What is it that could drain a battery in the space of 8 hours from almost full to power off? I've had this happen on the same phone twice prior to the upgrade as well but then I thought I've forgot data services on or something. This time I'm sure everything was off.
    Please advise.
    Martin

I have been using Lumia 820 since 1 year and have never faced any issues. But after the recent "black" update... my mobile battery drains out within few hours after i charge it 100%. I have to charge it 3-4 times in a day ..
    1. I dont have any GPRS connection.
    2. I use wifi at home (only evenings). The rest of the day.. I use it only for calls and texts.
    3. I have tried hard reset, but that dint help.
    4. After hard reset, I dint update my mobile software.
I charge it till 11pm and when I wake up at 5 am .. I see the mobile is switched off and I cant depend on the alarm to wake me up . That makes me so nervous.
Please bring out some solution to this problem. It is so irritating to charge the mobile for so many times in day.

  • Nokia Lumia 925 No Display After Switch On

When I switch my Nokia Lumia 925 off and then turn it back on again I get no display.
I know its on because I can press the on/off/ button and the soft keys will vibrate when touched.
I can even take a picture using the camera key, confirmed with a flash but I have no display whatsoever.
Anyone else experienced this issue? Soft reset seems to the the trick but I get the same issue everytime I turn my phone off and turn it back on again.
I love the phone to pieces but this issues are starting to dwell on me and whether I made the right choice.
My OS info if it helps is:
    OS: 8.0.10328.78
    Firmware: 3047.0000.1326.2005
    Hardware 1.0.0.0
    Chip SOC version 8960

In the light of this, my advice is to take it back to where you bought it from. There's clearly something wrong with your unit.
The Lumia 925 is a great phone. Don't let this bad experience change your opinion of the model. You may have had bad luck with yours, but it doesn't mean that *every* Lumis 925 suffers from the same fault!
Have it looked at by your nearest Nokia care point or, if you got it from an operator, contact them instead for the procedure to follow. They might even be able to give you further advice and things to try that could fix it for you without having to send it off.

  • Lumia 800 locking up after 11500 update

I hadn't had a single problem with my Lumia 800 since purchase two months ago.
Last night I updated the firmware to 11500.
Within a minute of the update completing the phone froze. App list was on screen but unresponsive, all buttons unresponsive, a full blown lockup.  I held the power button and reset it.  Phone booted up ok but locked up again within five mins, then again after another five mins.  This morning it locked up again while I was switching off flight mode.
There has been no consistency to what I have been doing on the phone at the time. The only observation I've made is that it's never unresponsive when I pick it up, it happens monents after unlocking the screen and using the phone.
    Has anybody else experienced this?
I can't make use of this because I've owned the phone for too long: http://www.lovemekeepme.com
    Help! Please?

    Restore done.  Phone restarted.
It locked up seconds after unlocking the screen.
Held down power button until device switched off, rebooted, went into apps list, opened an email, ran Nokia Disgnostics and looked at Battery Info, returned to homescreen, switched on flight-mode, switched off flight-mode, phone locked up.
GPS appears to be broken too. Nokia Maps, Maps (WP) and FourSquare all show my location as the place I last ran a map application which is about 30km away. Strange thing is that it's reporting that GPS is locked on and that it knows my position.
Oh! Phone has just locked up again.
What should I do now?  If it's to contact Nokia Care would you mind providing a link or telephone number (UK) please?
    Thanks everso,
    Matt.

  • Lumia 620 not woking after cyan update

I did cyan update on lumia 620 , while updating it shows a sad smile and rebooted to running wheels. after 20-30 seconds its keep rebooting and the loop continues.
    Future is here. where ????
help me if you can. anyway am not going to stay with nokia and wp.

Hi, vaissocial. Sorry to learn about your experience in updating your phone. Let's try to recover your phone through the following troubleshooting steps:
    1. Hardware Reset
Note: All information on your phone will be deleted and anything that has not been backed up will be lost during this process. If you cannot access your phone's menu, unfortunately you will not be able to backup any data.
    a. Make sure your phone is powered off.
    b. Press and hold the volume down button.
    c. Press the power button until the phone vibrates, then release the power button.
    d. Keep the volume down button held until you see an '!' on the screen, then release the volume down button.
When the ! appears, press the following buttons in order:
    volume up
    volume down
    power
    volume down
You should see rotating gears on your screen for around 5 minute and its display will then turn blank for 30 seconds while your phone restarts. It will take several minutes for it to restart. Once it has restarted, you will need to follow the on-screen instructions and complete the initial set-up process on your phone.
    2. If the issue remains, we suggest recovering your phone's software using the Nokia Software Recovery Tool. For more information, please check this link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/mobile/support/faq/?action=singleTopic&topic=FA142987.
BTW, the link is from the Nokia UK website. For future reference, please refer to your local Nokia website. Keep us posted with the outcome.

  • Lumia 920 Locks up after Black update

I'm using an AT&T Nokia Lumia 920. My phone had been working fine with the Amber update but as soon as I updated to Black it started hanging and acting weird. These are the symptoms:
    1. If I have a device pin setup it hangs as soon as I type in the pin or if I hit the emergency call button.
    2. If I don't have a pin, most apps don't start. They say they are loading but after 30 seconds or so they drop back to the start menu.
    3. It never successfully reboots, I have to use the soft reset key sequence (power + volume down) to get it to restart.
    4. I see missed incoming calls but the phone gives no indication when you're actually calling it.
    Things I've tried:
    1. Soft reset.
    2. Hard reset.
    3. Flash to pre Black using Nokia Software Recovery Tool. (no longer possible since it downloaded the black update this morning)
    4. Restoring backup after hard reset.
    5. Picking all the defaults after a hard reset.
    6. Changing the region on startup after a hard reset.
    7. Changing the keyboard layouts (remove some, add a bunch). This the one setting I seem to be able to get to.
    8. Uninstalled all apps I could (I can't see what games are installed).
    9. Flashed back to Original ROM and updated through Phone Updates, after Black is installed, device locks up again.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem? I'm in the US.
    Thanks!

    that's really a bummer.
I went through the same thing/similar when I updated my 920 to black.
I had to hard format and use the NSRT to reinstall the firmware completely 10-12 times until it finaly took the firmware correctly.
other than that, seems you have done everything you could to troubleshoot it.

  • N78 GPS problems after firmware update

I have just updated my N78 firmware to 13.052. Before the upgrade the GPS worked really well but after it struggles to lock on and hold position. It took an hour to find satellites earlier and as soon as i picked the phone up it lost its position.
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
Is it possible to reload the previous firmware?

    I had the same experience.
Yesterday roaming across forums I saw a post suggesting a phone reset as simple as tooking out the battery for ten seconds and restarting the phone.
Well, I opened the back cover, took out the battery for around ten seconds and closed the phone being careful to align the pins of the internal GPS antenna to the back cover  GPS antenna.
Then I restarted the phone and after two minutes it sees four satellites, and after five minutes nine satellites, completing the fix in less than five minutes.
Today, the GPS is still working (I tried the fix ten minutes ago with the same times).
Therefore, I consider the problem solved.
Moreover, the internal GPS now works also with Google Maps, and this according to my opinion demonstrates that probably the problem is not Nokia Maps 3.0 , because I am using Nokia Maps 3.0 and Map Loader 3.0 .

  • Note 4 GPS issues after software update

After updating to the new software the GPS is no longer working. The software update was realeased on 7/23/15Baseband Version: N910AUCU2COC5Kernel Version: 3.10.40-4160876dpi@SWDD3910#1Build Number: LRX22C.N910AUCU2COC5The GPS signal locks and does not move with the map. It freezes in location then catches up a few seconds to a minute after. It also bounces around in the map. I have tried to restart my phone and even did a factory reset, this did not fix the problem.

I know GPS functionality is important glassmann71, especially when traveling. Have you tested more than one navigation or mapping app? Any difficulties with signal when using other, non GPS related apps or functions? Does this happen in all areas that you travel?

  • Nokia Lumia 1320 random restarts after Denim updat...

    Dear Microsoft / Nokia,
I am writing this forum post because my nokia lumia 1320 is suffering some problems. Since the update, the phone is restarting itselve randomly.Today, the phone restarted itselve 3 times already, which was the provocation to send you this message.
I think it is a problem resulting from the recent Lumia denim update, before the lumia was significantly more stable.
The phone was factory resetted after the lumia denim update (1 week ago), and today i also performed a soft reset, without any results. (still random restarts).
Furthermore i noticed that sometimes the phone is unresponsive when i push the powerbutton, to unlock the phone.
My phone is on 8.10.14219.341, firmware: 3058.50000.1424.0001 (it is the Country variant from the Netherlands).
Hopefully there is a way to fix this problem,
    Thank you in advance,
    Wouter van Buul
Ps. I am not sure if this is the right place to report bugs?!

This is a user to user forum where we try to help each other, so reporting bugs is not the purpose of this community, that should be done direct to your local Microsoft Mobile support. However your problem is not a bug, just a technical issue with your handset and we can try to help.
Have you checked that all your system apps are up to date after the Denim update ? The easiest way to do that is from settings > applications > store > check for updates. If everything is up to date, I would do the following troubleshooting if I had this problem:
1.Remove the microSD memory card temporarily and monitor whether the reboots continue
    2. Get a new replacement SIM from your network
    3. If none of the above works, the next step would be a hard reset (settings > about > reset my phone), but since you say you have already done it, you can try a complete full reinstall of your firmware using the Software Recovery Tool. Please note this will completely wipe you phone, so a backup is highly recommended.

  • Messaging threads not updating - Lumia 925

  • Lumia 925 rebooted after cyan update (everything i...

    Hi all,
I installed Cyan update less than a week ago (Finland). Everything worked fine, but today my Lumia 925 started to install by itself software updates after which it erased ALL information (pictures, personal software. addressbook  etc) from the phone! I also received an SMS from Microsoft congratulating me for buying a Lumia! All the software that is left is the "original" as if I just had purchased the phone.
I logged into my Microsoft account but no information was recovered. I guess this has to do with cyan update.
    Can you help me please?!

You should not need to use the software reinstallation tool in this case, simply perform a reset of the phone from Settings, provided the backup option was switched on before the update you will have a backup linked to your Microsoft account, and your contacts at least are automatically sunced with that anyway. Automatic back-ups are normally switched on by defalut.
When the phone starts after the reset, there is an option during the boot-up process that asks if you wish to reinstall an earlier backup. Again, as long as you had all options selected, the resotration would inlude all items from the last back-up.
With regard to the update happening automatically, the phone can (if the setting is switched on) download updates automatically but it is not installed automatically, you would have received a notification on the screen and you would have pressed to install, perhaps this happened at a time when you were preoccupied and you pressed without checking what the notification referred to.
The welcome message is an automated part of the initial boot-up process, even after resets and updates.
