Lumia 925 on T-Mobile just got Cyan.

But us Icon owners are still on Lumia Black. Whatup wit dat???  The Icon is newer than the 925 by half a year. Shouldn't we enjoy at least the same level of support as an older phone?

I truly regret not having done better research before switching to Windows phone.
While I have been aware of the fact for a couple years that Windows phone users generally love their phones, and I DID research the hardware itself and thus chose the Icon...
I failed miserably in not doing the research that would have steered me away from WP on Verizon.
If only I had not re-upped with what has now become the worst carrier for customer service and gone with AT&T (who must be thrilled to no longer be worst.) instead.
It's sad that Verizon, a company whose customer service I used to rave about to my friends, no longer cares about providing anything even remotely resembling decent customer service.  I guess it was only a matter of time before "greed" became the cornerstone of Verizon's corporate culture.

  • Lumia 925 ATT Here Drive+ issue after Cyan

    I've noticed that on my 925 Here Drive+ doesn't recognize addresses that it previously did. It can find the address just fine from Here Maps, and will give turn by turn directions when you start navigation from there, but not when you use the people hub to quickly navigate to an address from a contact. Pops up a dialog that says no address was found.
    I've done a soft reset etc, did a full erase and update, not from a backup, everything from scratch.
    I would appreciate any advice you might have, one if my most used features.

    Had the Lumia 925 for nearly a year - without any problems ever.
    Since the Cyan update the phone often freezes, which it never did before. The only way to bring it back to life is the Power+VolumeDown button combination.
    On the first few freezing occasions the glance screen was showing and stuck, and it was charging via USB.
    I have reset the phone (from Settings -> Phone), and turned the glance screen to "Peek", which appears to have reduced the occurrences of freezing, but it still happens.
    From my observation freezing is more likely during charging, but that may have been a coincidence. It has also occurred while not charging.
    3G, Data connection, and location were on in all cases of freezing, WiFi and NFC were off in all cases.
    This is a _very_ serious bug that should get lots of attention immediately! The threads about it fill in several locations, at wpcentral, MSDN, etc. (it apparently affects several Lumia models).
    Are there experiences with using the Nokia Software Recovery Tool? It will apparently reset the Lumia 925 to a pre Cyan state. If I then install the updates, including Cyan, again, will there be a chance of the freezing problem to be gone? Or should I refrain from installing the Cyan update again for the time being if I want the phone to be reliable?

    Hi all,
    I installed Cyan update less than a week ago (Finland). Everything worked fine, but today my Lumia 925 started to install by itself software updates after which it erased ALL information (pictures, personal software. addressbook  etc) from the phone! I also received an SMS from Microsoft congratulating me for buying a Lumia! All the software that is left is the "original" as if I just had purchased the phone. 
    I logged into my Microsoft account but no information was recovered. I guess this has to do with cyan update. 
    Can you help me please?!

    You should not need to use the software reinstallation tool in this case, simply perform a reset of the phone from Settings, provided the backup option was switched on before the update you will have a backup linked to your Microsoft account, and your contacts at least are automatically sunced with that anyway. Automatic back-ups are normally switched on by defalut.
    When the phone starts after the reset, there is an option during the boot-up process that asks if you wish to reinstall an earlier backup. Again, as long as you had all options selected, the resotration would inlude all items from the last back-up.
    With regard to the update happening automatically, the phone can (if the setting is switched on) download updates automatically but it is not installed automatically, you would have received a notification on the screen and you would have pressed to install, perhaps this happened at a time when you were preoccupied and you pressed without checking what the notification referred to.
    The welcome message is an automated part of the initial boot-up process, even after resets and updates.

But I will try to see if it works. The iPhone is supposedly factory unlocked btw. Anyways, when I put in my tmobile sim, it searches for the service, but it always ends up saying NO SERVICE. I checked that my network says that the "phone not allowed". So I don't have 3G on this phone I presume. I heard that you need 3G to have service is that correct? But how do I resolve it? The iPhone does know that my phone carrier is tmobile. It just says no service. And I've tried restoring it three times and turning it off and on and it won't work. I don't have a data plan for tmobile tw! Hopefully someone can help! Thank you so much in advance!

    If a phone is sold from one friend to another and wants to use it on a different carrier the friend can contact the carrier it was sold by to request it unlocked.  I know AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint will give you the steps to unlock it as long as the original contract it was bought under has been completed.  eBay/Craigslist is really not the best place to try to get "unlocked phones" from, if it turns out the phone isn't unlocked then I'm really sorry you got stuck with that one and as stevejobsfan said above I would report them immediately and see if you can recover your money.  I sell phones for a living and this happens a lot

  • Lumia 925 got wet

    My lumia 925 got wet when it was turned off. I placed it in my bag after turning it off, when it started raining. Later when i tried turning it on, it did not. It is in warranty. What do i do

    Put it in a bag of rice for a few days to let the moisture come out. 
    Water damage is never covered under warranty, it's not a manufaturers defect. If you're lucky it will come back on.

  • Mail account on Lumia 925 after Cyan update.

    After completing the Cyan update on my Lumia 925 I had to go through the new procedure to reactivate my Google account (G-mail) on my phone. I followed all the steps in the procedure and finished. The next thing that happened was that the account was displayed in the account list but with dimmed letters and indicating "synchronizing". Twelve hours later it is still the same. And it is not possible to mark this account to delete it and start over. Have also tried to activate the same account one more time but then get the message that that account already is active on this devise.
    Restarting the phone did not help either. Hope someone can help.

    I went through the standard setup where the phone sends you to a google page for authentication with username end password for the Gmail account. Then you have to agree with Google/gmail terms, and then sett which things to synchronize (calendar, contacts and e-mail). And chose manual or automatic updates. I chose to only synchronize e-mail and do only manual synchronization. Then I hit finish and the account started its synchronization which has never ended.

    I always use my mobile to record brief audio messages ,usually brief notes to remind me of medical appointments etc.
    How do I use the microphone on the Lumia to record audio notes?
    Also,I have bluetoothed old audio messages (ones that were on my laptop,having been previously transferred from my old E71 nokia,a great phone!!) to my new Lumia. How do I access them? Where are they saved on the Lumia 925?

  • Lumia 925, earpiece audio trouble (voice calls)

    Background: I am a T-Mobile USA subscriber. Previously owned a Lumia 710, then switched to 810 when it became available. Great products; I've been very happy with both. Two weeks ago gave the 810 to another family member and got the Lumia 925.
    I love the 925. The screen is great, the phone is light, and the camera amazing. Except for one thing. The first day I had the 925, I noticed that the audio from the earpiece did not no sound right. While on calls, the earpiece had a nasty buzz to it, sounding like a damaged speaker. The audio quality while on speakerphone was perfect, so I could not blame T-Mobile's network. I took the phone back to T-Mobile and they replaced it, no questions asked.
    The second 925 sounded great. The earpiece audio was clear, without any buzzing or audio glitches. I was a happy man and everything was great, that is, until yesterday. Now the second 925 developed a similar bad audio quality during calls, but only from the earpiece. The speakerphone sounds fine, and using a bluetooth headset sounds fine also. It is not easy to describe the "badness" of the audio but there is a significant decrease in quality. The audio level seems to be down; with the volume all the way up, you can barely hear the other caller. The audio also has a buzzy, muffled quality to it, almost as if it is coming out of a tin can, and it is not easy to understand the caller. I tried calling my old Lumia 810 and the sound on the 810 is just fine. The trouble seems to be only the earpiece on the 925.
    This morning I went back to T-Mobile and they replaced the SIM card. I'm not sure how that would help, but they said it should help if this is a network issue. That was 5 hours ago and the audio quality has not improved at all. I have also performed a full phone reset, then reloaded my previous settings, but the problem persists. At this point it appears to be a hardware issue, but it is very odd that it happened on the first 925 right away, and on the replacement one as well, but after two weeks. Beside the bad earpiece audio the phone works great. The apps work as they should, and the camera is lovely, but if I first need the device to function as a phone.
    I am debating if I should try a third Lumia 925. I am a bit reluctant, as I'm afraid that it might break again. At least now it is within the 30 day return period, but what if this issue happens later? I would love to stick with Lumia but these issues with the 925 are worrisome.
    Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

    I was thinking to replace the unit but the longer I read this thread, the more I start to think this is "a feature" i.e. bad design and/or poor HW choices. That said, ff this is so common issue, I wonder howcome there wasn't anything about this in those several reviews L925 was subjected to when it was released. Or are the reviewers so busy in testing the 'smart phone' feature that they do not spend time to mundane stuff like voice call quality.
    I love the phone otherwise; looks great, has fantastic camera, crisp and cleat display - anyhow, had I known about this, I would have left this to the store.

    Havent' tried myself but if this is true, this starts to sound like some voice codec issue. ...which would be strange since one would think that the same speech encoding/decoding implementations are used in all Lumias so why would there be problems specifically in 925.
    The good with this option would be that it's probably possible to fix with SW update. Provided that Nokia is aware of the problem or better yet, interested to anything about it.

The point that I do not understand is the capacitive buttons light on/off scheme. Buttons lights turns on and off arbitrarily. There is no matter you are using it in under bright or dark environment or condition, the lights turn on and off arbitrarily. Why? or is there a operation scheme that I could not realize?! Confused...

    I vaguely remember being annoyed by that when I first got my 1520, coming from a 900.  I don't know if they changed it, or if I got used to it.  I tired just now, but I'm not sure what's supposed to make them turn off. Under what conditions would you need them to be off? I would understand dimming with the screen. Those who said they aren't always on, what do you do to make them go off? I tried battery saver mode and it didn't do it.  Maybe I need to go in a dark closet?
    I wish that was the worst problem I had with my capacitive buttons...
