Lumia 928 outside of the USA

Dear fellow Nokia-users and Nokia-staff,
just as many other (potential) customers in europe I am deeply disappointed that we are not offered the Lumia 928 with its fantastic features in europe.
So my question is the following (and please don't answer with little to none knowledge..) :
Would an imported, contract free/unlocked Lumia 928 work in the european network?
And I mean fully work, not just single functions.
With my dilletant knowledge I can't see a reason why it should not - but I'm certainly far from being a specialist.
Please help me out here.
Thank you very much.

Importing a 928 into Europe from the US would mean that you would not have a warranty should things go wrong. Also, the 928 is pretty much the same as a 920 apart from having a Xenon flash and an AMOLED screen. Why not wait until the July 11th announcement from Nokia to see what else they are about to show the world.

  • Need to unlock an AT&T iPhone outside of the USA

    Hi.
First of all, I CALLED AT&T. They said they have a new policy now, in which I HAVE to have a valid AT&T phone number in order for them to be able to unlock my iphone4. They said this new policy was enforced by Apple. I'm not a residant of the USA, and I have no AT&T serice in the country I live in.
Anyone can tell what my next actions should be?
    Thanks.

    good evening ogoren.
you have two options. send your iphone to a friend/relative in the US(if you have) so that they unlock the phone with their at&t sim. i have the same problem  here in greece and this is the only "official" way to do that.
the second option is to find someone that can manually unlock it for you but you will instantly loose your warranty and in case of hardware problems apple will not be responsible. if you do that be extremely careful with the ios version and the baseband. if you don't know how to do it don't try it yourself and don't let any "expert" do experiments on your phone.
sorry for the long post man.
And by "manually unlock" of course, you really mean "hack" it.

  • Is it legal to ship a software developed in LabView outside of the USA? specifically the United Kingdom.

I been ask to ship a compl\ile version of a VI that I been using in my lab to a Company Division located on the United Kingdom, with the new legal rules regarding software distribution I am not sure if I can send a copy without additional paperwork.

Company I worked for last had over 10,000 people working over 3 continents.
Guess who the expert was? The only thing the lawyers knew was how not to get busted for filling in the tax forms incorrectly.
And just to demonstrate how wrong it can go, a company recently got busted in Japan for shipping the equivalent of an accurate micrometer to North Korea. They have offices on every continent and 10's of thousands of employees.
A week earlier they were unfortunate enought to have an agent supply equipment to Libya
"The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) found a precision instrument at a nuclear facility in Libya"
By the way, just because they recipient is not paying for it has absolutely no bearing on the matter.
"The program in question is not beind sold in either country.  You are probibly okay."
And finally there are / were restrictions on exporting to the UK, hence my quote about Microsoft, it's only recently Brits were allowed to upgrade from 40 bit security in Windows. The American security services never really got over Philby, Burges and Maclean.....despite their own skeletons.

  • ITunes access for Mac users outside of the USA

We are Mac users both for business and personal. We buy all Apple products and hardware and purchase photo books etc. We purchase all our equipment online and ship. Yet, I have no access to the iTunes free downloads nor am I able to purchase any songs because we do not have a US Billing Address for our Credit Cards! We have international cards and use it for everything else world-wide. Yet no itune!! I buy all Apple products using my card - yet no itunes! Not having access to even download the free songs is not fair, as I am being hindered from creating iMovies because I cannot upload a song. This is an application that comes with my Mac yet I am not able to use it. Come on, you have to help me out here! I need to make some iMovies and post! What can I do? Please help? Debra

Sorry, but there's nothing anyone here can do to help as far as the iTunes Store is concerned. Apple has not, for legal and/or business reasons, been able to open iTunes Stores in every country. If there's no iTunes Store in your country, you'll need to look to other sources of music.
I am being hindered from creating iMovies because I cannot upload a song.
You're not being hindered; iMovie doesn't need the iTunes Store to be completely functional. There are lots of sources for music, such as an imported CDs (you need legal permission to use any copyrighted music, of course, if you intend these movies for other than personal use). You don't need to be a able to purchase from the iTunes Store to have music for your movies.

  • Charging my iPod outside of the USA

I travel in many different regions of the world and need to know if I need any special equipment to charge my iPod. I have the US iPod power adapter. I also have Radio Shack wall adapters to convert Mexico, Japan, Europe to take US plugs. Can I plug the US iPod adapter into these wall adaptors or is special equipment needed?

*You should be able to get an "international" cord that can be plugged into the ipod charger.*
I don't know what kind of cord you're talking about but the problem is that there are possibly a dozen mechanical arrangements for plugs and receptacles throughout the world. One adapter won't do it. That's why it's necessary to purchase a set of adapters from Apple (or Radio Shack or whoever).

  • HT201897 Does a Mac Mini purchased in the USA require a power converter for operation in Europe or should I only purchase a different power cord for it?

Does a Mac Mini purchased in the USA require a power converter to operate outside of the USA or can I simply purchase a different power cord for it?

Depending on which European country (should their mains access plug/port shape vary) the
cord set with correct ends on it has to match. You can buy a cord that plugs into the Mini
where the factory cord goes, and the other end has one for the wall source shape. The wire
for the application should be able to support 110~240VAC.
With the cord or an accurate image in hand, you could either get a new cable to match both
realities (mini + wall supply mains local) or an adapter (US/Standard to EU/Local) for just
the head or input part of the original Apple cable. One plugs into the other, then into wall.
If you have a new Mini with a small modular plug/port on the computer end of the power wire,
it would have only two holes and no ground; the other end would have two prongs of equal
shape and size. Not a polarized plug and not a grounded three-prong. To get a replacement
power wire for the MINI to go from power source to the Mini is recommended, if you are going
to be staying in one location for awhile. A Travel Kit that offers no electrical conversion but only
the physical shape adapter kit, should a available in travel stores, airports; big box discount
stores, computer and electronic stores. This page shows the cord end of the appliance shapes.
The other end would be the mains shape for whichever country you are going to....
    http://www.signalandpower.com/European-Power-Cords/
So to match the country or regional power mains type is a primary concern for obtaining the
correct replacement cord to supply the Mini with local mains power. The end which plugs into
the Mini is of a certain type (numbers for EU and elsewhere are published, see link + images)
& the end that gets plugged into the mains or utility side, needs to match the local specification.
The link to Apple, to contact for Support and Service information in prior post, should be able
to help find a source for the local replacement type cord they'd sell local people with a Mini.
Apple local sources offer replacements for this purpose; and for travelers, a second cord for
a direct use (not adapter plugs) is a better bet. For those who only need a cord in two places.
If you are traveling to Denmark, UK, Swiss or other EU countries require different adapters.
Even places where the power itself may be somewhat similar. However your MINI has an
automatic power supply that will conform to that energy standard, you only need to supply a
correct non-transforming adapter. Simply a connection to adapt one shape to another.
The general purpose travel kit that is not specialized to Apple power adapters, would have a
plastic plug/adapter with the local pins on one side, and the US/standard two slots on the other.
So, no circuitry nor any other change of electrical power inside this device would be required.
    http://www.signalandpower.com/2-Prong-Plug-Adapters/
    http://www.signalandpower.com/Convert-to-Europe-CEE-716-plug/
    http://www.signalandpower.com/Swiss-AC-Power-Cords/
In other words, I believe my other post already covered this. On the ground on either end of the
path, adapters are common and the Mini does not use proprietary electrical components IF you
have one of the more recent shape aluminum models with the power supply built in. The older
Mini has the power brick and two wires. A US/Standard plug adapter to EU/Local would work in
either case, since all you'd do is plug the adapter plug into the local mains and the US plug into
that one... I see these kinds of discards for as little as 25¢ in thrift stores in Alaska. Or you can
buy a new one. Or you could get a complete cord with correct ends on it, for Mini + local mains.
Hopefully this helps somewhat. The only info missing is which EU country or region is involved.
Their shapes of plug are different, so the adapter end for local supply has to match their standard.
Swiss, Denmark, UK, and others offer different shapes and so on.
The Apple store in the location you are traveling should be able to supply you with a replacement
cable for a modern MINI, that has the correct local mains end, and the correct Apple mini end on
the opposite. Since the unit is automatically switching, the magic is done.
Since I supplied a means to locate any number of Apple stores, authorized service providers &
other Apple related vendors in my earlier reply: https://locate.apple.com/country you could contact
any of them along your route in the City in whichever EU country, to find a local MINI power cable.
    In any event, I'm done...
    Good luck and happy trails...

  • FM tuner for Lumia 928

Where is the FM tuner for the Lumia 928? Does the Lumia 928 have an FM tuner and it is just not available or was this left out of the 928 all together? I just installed the Amber update from Verizon, but don't see the Radio Tuner as being added. This was a feature on my Windows 7 phone I really enjoyed.

You did not buy your phone from Nokia so why should Nokia refund you for any reason. You bought a Verizon product (made by Nokia). It was never stated the 620 would be the ONLY model not having the hardware to allow for FM radio to be activated through GDR2.
Here's a table of features as they would be available (source). The source is usually very reliable, I suggest you go and ask them for their source on this as I could not say..

        Oh no Mr.Ected!
I can see if we can get your phone back on! I understand how important it is to have a phone. Have you tried this to see if we can get it back on? http://vz.to/1DZhteH . If it is still goes to a red Verizon screen and then to black we might need to do a master reset. While the phone is off try this:http://vz.to/1DZhXkU Be mindful this is the last resort because it will erase everything on the phone. If you have done back up assistant in the past you will be able to get you contacts back. Please let me know if you need any more help.

Who do I write to, to complain that because I don't live in one of
the countries listed in the drop down list on the Itunes store, I
cannot register my credit card OR purchase from Itunes ?
I am trying to register to buy online with ITUNES. However the
system does not seem to allow me to change the country from the
United States to Argentina where I live and where my Bank of America credit card is registered !
Come on guys, I thought Apple was better than this and recognised
that there is a world outside Bill Gates' USA ! How can I change the
    country ?
    [email protected]

Unfortunately, if your country doesn't have it's own store, you are out of luck. Content providers such as record companies require a CC with a billing address from the country that you use. The content providers require this rule as they do not care for cross-border sales, so it really is not Apple's fault.
