Lumia Icon - missing features and behavior

I replaced my Lumia 920 with the Icon yesterday.
A main software feature was not present. The Lock Screen Timeout option for NEVER is missing on the Icon. It was present on the 920. Now the screen goes dark every 5 minutes. Besides being fundamentally irritating, this is a problem while driving and other dangerous situations.
Also, sound files in the Ringtones directory do not appear in the available ringtones list. I used .wma and .mp3 sound file formats.

Have you configured your Lumia phone to connect to your corporate email? If yes, this is the reason why the option went away.
Also, this feature can vary depending of the chosen customization (operator variant) and the display technology. This means that all Lumia phones do not have the ‘Never’ option.

... What's wrong with Apple these days - all of these issues (listed above) could have been easily implemented in version 2.2 and were frequently requested by all iPhone users since version 1.0 and yet Apple have ignored all of them...

These features may or may not be that difficult to include, but what made you "fork out huge amounts to pay for a 'top of the range' iPhone" in the first place?
As already provided, Apple has what is called their own "allocation of resources and prioritization", and if what is included doesn't meet your needs or wants, you should not have purchased an iPhone in the first place, or continue to keep using the iPhone if Apple doesn't include the features you need or want in a time table that meets your expectations, since there are plenty of cheap $100 phones that meet your needs or wants, you have a wide range of other phones to choose from which are less expensive, so that is exactly what you should do. No point in continuing to use a device that does not meet your needs or wants. Use one of the many less expensive devices you have to choose from that meets your needs or wants and move on.

How to remove missing features and webparts?

I've moved and upgraded a 2007 teampoint site to my Enterprise SharePoint 2010 site. The site is up and running but I've got this nagging error about a missing webpart and a missing feature.
The features that were not compatable were not used so what SharePoint 2010 would allow me to remove has been removed. Now I have this error message that still needs to be dealt with.

So, I'd like to remove the references from the database for the feature and webpart mentioned in the error. I can't seem to spot how to do that with stsadm, it reports that the feature is not installed which leads me to conclude that I just need to remove
the reference from the db. Is there a SharePoint way to do this or am I destined to remove it manually from the db myself?

Lumia 920 India .. missing features and some sugge...

Alrito ppl..i have migrated from nokia 701 (Symbian) to Nokia lumia 920 (Windows 8)

No sim inserted as yet and right now using it in wifi mode only
Since i was a symbian user..some features are very very essential in my daily phone usage (though some are rare)
So the required features/suggested

1.Red eye reduction
2.Self-Timer
3.Details of photos like size,location,resolution, etc etc
4.Number of photos like how many photos are there in an album or phone..
5.wat is the use of having albums tab when u cant create one??!!

1.Heard that Stereo FM is gonna come soon with the next update of accessing fm radio and can also radio transmittor ?

1. You can use Nokia Creative Studio on the phone to fix red eye.
3. Install "Picture Info" from the store, it's free.
5. You need to ask Microsoft that question but it does show albums you've created in skydrive or facebook

1. Only a rumour, Microsoft at this moment does not support FM and the next update does not enable it. Even if the L920 did have the required hardware it would only work as a receiver, not a transmitter.
3. I don't believe Microsoft has added support for that.
Others:
1. Microsoft control IE featurs, if you press the menu dots then close all tabs you can easily exit.
2. Weird, GPS works well where I am, make sure you use it with a data connection.
3,4,5,6,7 & 8. You need to suggest that to Microsoft as it is their operating system, not Nokia's.

CS4 missing features and functions

Help please, I cannot get my work done!
I have just upgraded from Design Premium CS3 to CS4. InDesign is the only program I am having issues with.
I can no longer Alt-drag to duplicate an object. Using Edit-Duplicate puts the new object off the pasteboard.
I can no longer cut and paste ANYTHING. The features are grayed out in the menu, even when an object is selected. I can copy text from Word, but it will not past into the InDesign text box.
Cannot move selected objects using the mouse, only the arrow keys will move a selected object.

The problem is caused by a bug in the handling of US and GB language files either in InDesign CS4 or its installation program.
You can "force repair" this by using a macro I made: www.e-fastems.com/cs4_indesign_repair_missing_help_and_shortcuts.zip
In the last step, you need to choose the default shortcut set of your area. E.g. for me it was [Default Finnish]
I'm not sure if there are more similar problems in CS4. But in my company, we were able to fix the problem in InDesign CS4 using this macro.
Symptoms of this problem include:
- When trying to open the help in InDesign CS4 you get the message: "Adobe InDesign CS4 Help content is not installed, or the installation has been damaged. Please reinstall InDesign."
- All the tools (Tools, Control, Links) panels are missing (i.e. Workspace settings are missing)
- Copy-paste is not working
- Enter key does not work
- Delete key does not work when e.g. trying to delete a selected object

Mavericks toolbar icons missing, time and date as well

The time and date, wifi and other icons are missing from the toolbar. Other icons are missing from the finder window and the dismiss and minimize icons are missing from all windows. I have tried to delete the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file and also tried to reboot in safe mode to no avail. When I do reboot, the some, but not all, of the top bar icons appear then disappear. It must be a plist file but I haven't a clue as to which one

Since installing newer firmware you can no longer set the resolution for and pictures suck. Also can not zoom in on video. How can I go backwards with the firware?

Check and see what OS you have. Go to your STATUS icon > then ABOUT > on the third line down it should tell you 4.x.x.xx I think you will need the 4.5 OS . (operating system)

New (missing) Features and iChat/PhotoBooth effects

AirPort menu signal strength.
The AirPort item in the menu bar now includes signal strength for all available wireless networks, so you can see which access point has the best signal before selecting it.
I'm not seeing this. Anyone else seeing this? Anyone know the fix?

I had a similar problem when I upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard (and also upgraded to iLife 09). For me, the solution was to run iChat and Photo Booth in 32-bit mode instead of 64-bit mode.
To do this, go to the Applications folder, select the icon for iChat, go to the menu bar and select File->Get Info. (Alternatively use the shortcut ][-I or "right click" the icon). Check the box for "Open in 32 bit mode". Repeat for Photo Booth.
(note- I have also posted the above text to another thread in the iSight forum to improve the chances of it being found by others seeking a solution)

Nokia 701 (or Belle?) missing features and network...

I used to own a 5800XM that worked great, then bought a 701 to be able to run all the new apps and take advantage of the new Nokia Belle OS.
Well, little disappointment... First, I can't update to 111.030.0609 from 111.020.0307 - apparently because I have an Italian phone. Model number appears to be 059L499, Type RM-774.
Then, I noticed that data connections (WiFi as well as GPRS/UMTS) are NOT listed in the call log, as they used to be with my old (but good) 5800xm. This is a hell of a problem because I'm not able to track down data connections that cost me money... and there we go:
I configured my Hotmail mailbox, then tried to set up NOT to do automatic retrievals... but apparently, every now and then, it will connect and actually update, without permission!
Another data connection issue: in my old (but good) 5800xm, I could configure each access point to be used automatically or after confirmation. I used to set up wifi connections to be automatic, while I requested confirmation for GPRS/UMTS ($$$) destinations. Now this setting is GONE, and my 701 will decide autonomously when to connect, without asking me...
So, if I don't want my phone to become a money hog, I have to deactivate data connection manually, that I don't find very practical as for my user experience...
Another issue, not as relevant, is with the Note app: if I open a note and try closing it without actually modifying its content, I actually save it with a new timestamp, as if it was changed. No big issue, just annoying when it comes to synchronization...
I would consider all the networking issues as bugs. Hope the new firmware will come and fix. Anyone with latest version of Belle could confirm?

Too bad to hear you have not been totally happy with your new device. You can check from here what is the latest SW version available for your device.
To change the priority of the access points go Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Settings > Network destinations > Internet > Long press wanted access point > Change priority. You can set WiFi connections to be priority.
To put mobile data connection "When needed" go to Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Admin settings > Mobile data.
To change the email retrieval go Menu > Email > Settings > The mailbox in use > Auto-retrieval > Configure the settings you want. If it does not retrieve the emails like it should, please go back to Mail > Long press the mailbox > Delete. Then add it again.
If you do not wish the phone to connect to internet without your permission, please set all synchronisations to manual or off.

Nokia Lumia Icon turning off and on by itself

after i dont use it for a while it turns itself off and then back on it is weird ill hear the vibrate ot feel it when it does this. it works fine for everything else

Possible reasons are
1. Loose Battery
2. Faulty motherboard
3. SIM card (is it an original Micro-SIM or did you get it cut?)
4. Excessive heat (a buggy a background process?)

Missing Features, Bugs, and Wish List for Apple Engineers

I LOVE my iPhone. It is by far the best phone I have ever had. The interface is awesome. Great job Apple, but there are missing features and bugs that all of us want updated or wish were added. I know they were probably already thought of by Apple, but in an effort to make the phone perfect removed to make it more stable. Now that it is out lets make it perfect.
This thread will hopefully give you guys guidance from the early adopters who share your love for the phone (and others who want to chime in). I want to separate the list into a few categories and hope everyone will add to this thread with their ideas:
1) BUGS/CHANGES TO EXISTING APPS:
- Period should be in alphabet keyboard (make space smaller) or when you go to symbol keyboard and hit period it should automatically go back to the alphabet keyboard (unless you double click the symbol button which means stay there like caps lock)
- Individual delete (like Mail) of all lists (eg. call list, bookmarks list, history etc.
- Multiple item in a List delete (see below for how to select). This is also so un-Mac like to not be able to select multiple items to delete. It is all or none for clear/delete on the iPhone.
- Implement double finger slide...in maps double finger tap zooms out so the OS recognizes this, why don't you use a double finger drag to mean "select". There is no way to select some words in a sentence or a group of items. This could be how. eg. In a list (eg Mail) double finger slide over items you want to select (instead of singer finger drag which moves the list) then one finger slide to the right to delete the selected items from the list.
- Copy and paste. Since there are no menus this would require a gesture (ala newton)
- when you tap the battery icon it should bring up a battery status dialog (ala wifi join dialog where the screen dims): present charge, big battery icon (like the charging one), time left. In addition, instead of giving battery usage details only after a full charge, give it at any point.
- Since you know that nights and weekends are at set times (and not variable like it was on Sprint where I came from)...the phone usage details should be broken down into: peak minutes used and N+W minutes used (not hard to figure out since you know the time and dates of calls)
- Be able to change font/background etc in Notes app
- faster way to get to favorites in the killer phone app after turning on phone. Just seems like it takes too many taps to get there to make a call on a phone.
2) WISH LIST FOR NEW APPS (apps that can be added with existing hardware, see #3 for other wishes)
- iChat (obvious and probably almost done)
- VOIP (probably not going to happen, and wouldn't work in Europe where I would need it most gven network speeds there)
- Flight tracker widget
- Exchange support (probably in the works)
- Push email from gmail and .Mac (probably in the works)
- Bluetooth sync
- DUN (probably not going to happen since AT+T does not want it)
- Data/File storage with sync
- TODO APP that syncs to to do in iCal
- Ringtones, definitely from songs from iPod side (obvious and coming soon I am sure)
-Search function like spotlight. Global would be awesome, but even just in contacts
3) FUTURE HARDWARE RELATED WISHES (stuff we wish could be in hardware version 1 but know require a version 2):
- GPS
- 3G
- LED that changes color and/or pulses (like MacBooks sleep light) that indicates things (eg charge status, Voice mail status, roaming status etc) without turning on the phone
- Move camera to front to allow video conferencing (I doubt Steve would allow since it would mess up the clean front look)
Well I could go on and will add to this thread later, but I need to go to work to show everyone (and sell more apple stuff since many of my colleagues have been converted to macs). Now, all you pioneers, start adding things to help our beloved phone become better!

I agree with your post! I'm amazed by the simplicity, the screen, and the apps on the iPhone. They all have worked wonderfully for me, with just a few crashes while surfing or loading big email images. (I heard that shutting down the phone and restarting helps that.)
The single flaw for me is that the phone app itself should be primary, with more options (quicker access, unique ringtones, voicedial?) and ease of use. The other applications are so elegant, but I need my phone to be very accessible and practical too.
My wish list:
1) Make it fewer taps to get to the point where you can make a phone call. How about the main button can be programmed to take you wherever you want. I'd choose to go to Phone Favorites, so I could speed dial right away.
2) Be able to set a preference as to what app you're in when you wake up the phone. I'd choose phone keypad, some might choose iCal, etc.
3) Add the period and comma symbols to the alpha keyboard.
4) Allow different ringtones for specific caller ID's.
5) Copy and paste.
V2) With new hardware, add a "back" button to return to prev. screen. It could be small, on the side near volume?

When will the Lumia Icon get the Denim Update?

The Denim Update will arrive for the Lumia Icon in early 2015. It just dropped today for Lumia 928 and Lumia 822: Verizon announces Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 to Lumia 928, Lumia 822 | Windows Central.
But, Microsoft said at IFA 2014 that the Lumia Denim would "first be available on our flagship phones...Lumia ICON": Microsoft Nokia Lumia Live Event Part 1 - Lumia Denim, Lumia 830 IFA 2014 - YouTube . Not happy. Check the youtube video out at the time 7:48.
So it appears that Lumia Cyan was skipped as some of us speculated in the forums.
Meanwhile, although you can only buy the Lumia 928 at Verizon, since Verizon discontinued (yanked off the shelves with disgust by iPhone and Android executives hehehe, jk) the Lumia ICON, you can still buy the Lumia ICON at the Microsoft store free with contract: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Verizon---Nokia-Lumia-Icon/productID.306508100
And just to add a little salt to the wounds the 930 on AT&T already has Lumia Cyan and it has the same exact hardware as the 929, accept for a few little number changes here and there due to GSM vs CDMA, but that doesn't take 4 months to figure out...: Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 rolls out for Nokia Lumia 930
At this point Verizon should just let Microsoft deliver firmware directly to Lumia ICON users, like Apple delivers firmware updates to iPhone users, without carrier approval since Verizon doesn't even sell the ICON anymore.
Very disappointed in Verizon and Microsoft.
I wonder if the preview for developers version will receive the Denim update on the ICON any sooner than "early 2015"...

OK, I stand corrected -- and I'm thrilled about that!! According to Lumia Conversations, Verizon will be rolling out Denim to those that missed Cyan:

I'm not thrilled about us Icon owners being last in line and waiting until 2015, but it's better than waiting for a Cyan update that will never come.

Disk First Aid - Problem: Custom icon missing

Wonder if anyone can help me - my mac kept quitting out of printing photos to my Epson R300 and then froze. I didn't let it self repair once restarted but left it to do it today manually. I set Disk First Aid going and it came up with about 30 "Custom icon missing" alerts and when I asked it to repair it couldn't repair them.
Anyone know what's happened there and how to fix it?
I've noticed that the mac has been quitting out of programmes a lot lately but without the 'this spllication has unexpectedly quit' alert. I haven't added any new software or hardware lately either.

Welcome to Discussions.
Fortunately, the Custom Icon issue will have no impact on the general reliability of your mac.
As a bit of background, one of the special attributes that can be applied to a file or folder (like modification date, or label, or comments, or the FileType and Creator - so a document knows which app it is associated with when you double click it) is this "Custom Icon" setting.
So you have 30 files / folders that have been marked as having a custom icon. But when it goes to get the custom icon to display the file / folder in the Finder, it can't find it. You usually just end up with a generic icon for the file / folder. It offers no extra functionality other than displaying a pretty icon in the Finder. Similarly, when it doesn't work, you lose no functionality, other than that.
The applications quiting unexpectedly could be an issue, but issues with printing colour photos to a printer may be memory issues. Colour photos, perhaps .jpg, are compressed. As your printer doesn't have built-in decompression software, the pictures must be decompressed on the Mac before sending to the printer. And there is the issue, if this requires too much memory, your mac can do strange things.
Is printing from OSX any better ? I would have thought a G4 iMac with Panther would be a dream to work on.

Lumia Icon

So if Verizon has stop selling the Lumia Icon, Why? (And please hold off on the politically correct answer we get enough of that from our politicians, be the forward thinking company that got you were you are and give us the straight scoop.)
Since Verizon has stopped selling the Lumia Icon would it not reason that Maybe we should get our updates directly from Microsoft instead of Verizon, or at least work together as a team to get them sent out in a package with all device not select ones.
I have moved from an Android device to Windows and I would say except for the lack of apps these first couple of days have been more pleasant with a Windows based device, quick, easy and the items you need in a phone/smartphone.
I would be surprised to get honest responses to me question and comments above, but it would be nice.

Really like the Icon and I'm running 8.1 with Black. I got the phone because it had great specs and because it was sold as going to be upgradeable to 8.1 when released. Now, nearly a year later, I'm still waiting for an official release. Did the phone work on 8? Yes. Was it as good as 8.1? Absolutely not. This is the second time going thru this with Verizon for me. I got an htc resound on the promise of Android ICS and that took about 6 months after release from Google for Verizon to release it. Same silence from Verizon then, I don't care about getting 8.1 officially at this point, I just want the new firmware to make things run more smoothly.
I'm confident the delays are driven by trying to get all of Verizon's crapware to run on it.
Lesson here is to not be a sucker for Verizon's sales pitches ever again. Obviously, the only time they communicate is before the sale. I'm not buying the early 2015 stuff, either. Heard the same thing when I had Android.

Missing IChat features and compatibility

I have installed Leopard and went right to iChat. It turns out that some of the much anticipated features not only announced, but highlighted and DEMO'd by Steve Jobs at the Leopard preview are absent. (both the "Conan O'Brian talking lips effect" and the "star wars hologram" effect). Any chance for a "catch up" release if they weren't ready for prime time? No mention, no apology anywhere.
I am also very upset about the bait and swtch tactic with the new features. There was no mention in the preview info about many of the features ONLY working on Intel chip Macs. My G5 desktop PowerMac cannot do many of the new things. I am still annoyed about buying an expensive and very rapidly obsolete computer 2 months before the Intel crossover announcement. I think this behavior was calculated, and I am very angry about this. Tough words from a mac user since 1983, even through the bad System 7 days.
Shame on you Apple! Any word on redress, other releases, or solutions?

I have a Intel C2D MacBook, but I have a similar 'missing feature' problem.
The interesting 3D affect in the screenshots of iChat show the theater affect existing in a 3D space, slightly receding.
This isn't the effect I get in reality however, which is just a simple full video chat window presentation of the photos.
I assume that this is because I have a Intel GMA950 video card, and not a more powerful model.
But, why is this not mentioned anywhere in doco?
