Lumina 920 - 'MS Outlook' or 'Office 365' or 'Outl...

I have owned the Nokia Lumina 920 for a few months now. Many issues and (too) many hours spent learning about and trying to use / fix / work around, the operating system.
Lots of problems still to deal with but we'll start with a simple question, this is my first post.
The Nokia Lumina 920 web page states and shows pictures of, the device running MS Office.
Our new Nokia Lumia family comes with full versions of Microsoft Office and Outlook. Create and edit PowerPoint, Excel and Word documents with ease wherever you are with seamless sync.
This is not so with my device.  It runs 'Office 365'  (as a kind of file explorer substitute) giving me Word, Excel and Power Point, plus lets me use Adobe Readder(!) Office 365 does not let me view pictures, per the Nokia Help file.  The 920 runs Windows 8 'apps' allowing me to access the Mail, People and Calendar parts of my MS account.
The Nokia Lumina 920 web page shows the (MS Office Suite) 'four petal flower' symbol (with Word, Excel files beneath it) whereas my phone shows the (Office 365) '3D Square' symbol.
So, my question.  I absolutely do not have Microsoft Office (suite) nor Microsoft Office Outlook on my Lumina 920.  Also, there is definately no way to 'seamless sync' (or any sort of sync) between Microsoft Office Outlook (on my PC) and the mail/calendar/people functions on my phone. Is the Nokia statement above wrong or is my phone messed up?
For the record I know about MS Hotmail, MS Live and now Outlook.com accounts.  I know about Hotmail, now Outlook, Connector.  Yes, I have the latest updates installed and yes, I have trawled these forums before posting.  No, I am not using an exchange server.

I would suggest you educate yourself on Office 365, which is far from 'just a file explorer version of office'
Outlook, by design, is supposed to work through an exchange server with support for standard POP and IMAP servers. The fact many people privately use the mail client outside it's designed specs is another matter. When used as intended it syncs mail, contacts, calendar and tasks perfectly fine through an exchqange server. Recent versions of Office have included a connector for use with Hotmail which offers nearly identical connectivity.
Office on my Lumia phone handles my word, excel and powerpoint files just fine. I can create (or edit) all of these.
Your post is basically a lot of words not saying or asking anything, maybe post actual questions to which we may be able to provide actual answers. The one you sem to ask is answered many, many time before on the forum. I sense you are looking for a USB based sync option which is not supported by default although there are 3rd party options offering this.
Windows Phone offers full sync with Outlook and Office, just not using an USB connection. I have all my Office docs in Skydrive and can access them from either my PC or my phone.

    Hi petro_jemes,
Just a little claritification, you need to add the value to the variable "[string]$ou", and also change the language in the variable "$emailbody" in the function "Get-ADUserPasswordExpirationDate".
    I hope this helps.

  • Outlook 2013 (Office 365 Install) unable to set Default Mail Client

After installing Office 2013 via Office 365 for Business, the installation is unable to set Outlook as the default mail client.  Message appears after each system reboot:
"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request.  Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client."
When going into Control Panel and manually set the Outlook client as the default, the setting does not take.  After a reboot, the warning message reappears.
Anyone else having the same issue?

No but then again it is a Beta. Did you clean install or update?  9926 seems to be relatively stable.

  • Office 2010 Outlook Desktop/Office 365 Issues-Cannot connect to the desktop in Outlook, Can't see more than 6 old messages in Office 365

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm having an issue all of a sudden with connecting staff members to Outlook 2010 desktop version. Our super kept having issues, so we disconnected her from the desktop, and tried to reconnect her. I wish I wouldn't have
done that, now I can't get connected back up. We thought we would login to the web version so that she could check her e-mails, which is fine. She can get new e-mails just fine, but she can only see 6 old emails, and she has 100's of old e-mails. Someone please
help, I'm about ready to pull my hair out!!! Very frustrating. :)
    Thank you in advance,
    Ang

    Hi Ang
So this is an Office 365 (Exchange-based) email account? Do you mean you've deleted the specific account from Outlook client and tried to re-add it again?
"now I can't get connected back up" - At which step will it fail? Any error messages when things go wrong? Please first check the account settings that you've entered, and make sure they are correct.
"She can get new e-mails just fine, but she can only see 6 old emails, and she has 100's of old e-mails."
    - With web mail portal, you are connected to your mail server directly. If you are referring to the web-based mail portal here, then these old mail messages probably have been deleted from the server.

  • Opening a shared mailbox in Outlook 2013 (office 365) returns "Cannot Expand Folder" error.

    Hi!
We've just upgraded from our old Domino email server to Office 365 E1 and running an on-premise Exchange 2013 hybrid server.
In Outlook 2013, when trying to expand a shared mailbox, It asks me to enter my outlook credentials. Trying so doesn't work and it continues to ask repeatedly. If I click cancel, I get the following error:
"Cannot expand the folder. The set of folders cannot be opened. Microsoft Exchange is not available.
Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance."
The error only occurs in Outlook 2013 and it happens to all staff who are using Outlook 2013. Shared mailboxes are accessible in Outlook 2010 and OWA with no issues.
I have tried recreating profiles, removing and re-adding permissions, disabling auto-mapping. I've tested with creating shared mailbox in Exchange Online and on our hybrid server.

    Hi,
Check if the kb below matches your scenario:
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2992644
This problem occurs only when the following conditions are true:
You are using Microsoft Outlook 2013 client version 15.0.4641.1001.
The client is connected by using Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTP).
To resolve this issue, apply the update that is described in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
    2889859
If you are using the Click-to-Run version of Office 2013, the Outlook application is kept up to date automatically. For more information about Office 2013 Click-to-Run updates, see
    Microsoft Office 2013 Click-to-Run virtualization
I hope the information is helpful.

  • Sent emails, from replies, to email in Shared Exchange mailbox folders - Outlook 2013 - Office 365 Midsize Business

    1. Outlook 2013 lets replies to emails from another folder than inbox wind up in that same folder.
    Options - email - save - a checkbox
    2. A registry setting lets email sent from shared exchange mailboxes wind up in the "sent objects" folder of that mailbox.

I need feature 1. to show up in the shared mailbox as well as the default mailbox. All my problems would be solved if I could have this behaviour in the inbox folder of the shared mailbox as well.
UniSent helped us with this on SBS2003 and Outlook 2003- 2007 but does the same trick as the registry setting in Office 2013.
    cheers

    Hi,
There is no build-in setting in Outlook to achieve this, you may try a code solution here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ad92302a-7e60-4114-a79a-b9759a7368c1/move-sent-mails-to-other-mailbox?forum=officeitproprevious
Since we are not the best source for coding, if you need any assistance on the code sample, you can post a question in Outlook for Developers forum:

  • Outlook 2010 Office 365 and Exchange -- can't get them to talk to each other

I saw similar question posted with no answer.
Have Office Outlook 2010 on HP Pavillion dv7 running Windows 7 Premium and Office 365 on HP Envy x 2 running Windows 8 and can't get either of the Outlook programs to talk to Exchange.  They both ask for passwords and none of the ones I try seem to
work. Yet the email program that came with the HP Envy x2 (part of Windows 8?) manages my Exchange emails as well as my gmail and bellsouth.net accounts.
If for some reason I can't link Exchange to more than one version of Outlook (I'd like to connect to both), suggestions for connecting Exchange to Outlook 365 would be welcome.
    Suggestions?

Make sure you have installed the latest SP for Office 2010 and all the other updates. It also requires the PRO PLUS version of Office for all features to work as expected, if you are using Standard or Home this might be the problem. Check here for more info:

  • I use Outlook Webmail, office 365 for two mailboxes. In one when I send an email it hides the top menu bar where you click send etc, meaning I cannot send email

This works fine in the first of two inboxes I use. But in the second it does not. There should be no difference between the two as both are the same mailbox essentially (Microsoft Outlook 365).
It happened on both my home firefox and office firefox. It works fine in Chrome.

My organization is experiencing the same issue.
Specifically, the missing Send Button Tool bar. I can share what we have found in our troubleshooting.
The issue appears to be related to how the page information (specifically the Send Tool bar) is cached in FireFox.
For example, if you follow the work-around described of using the F11 function key to take the browser window full-screen, the Send Tool bar appears. If you then sign-out while still in full screen, the tool bar info is cached – and on each subsequent launching of OWA, the Tool bar will show up; even if you resize the window to anything other than full screen or maximized. That is, once you successfully get the Tool bar – it stays working on subsequent sign on.
At that point, the tool bar will continue to show up until the FireFox cache is next cleared. For example, if you sign out, then clear the cache – the problem will return on your next sign in. Apparently, a reboot will also clear the cache in some cases, again returning the issue at next sign on.
We are also seeing what appears to be a memory leak. For example, if you look at the amount of memory in use by firefox when everything is working correctly (with the tool bar) – we see RAM allocation of around 200Mb. But if you are experiencing the missing tool bar – we see RAM allocation to firefox grow continually; even to the point of 1+GB. At that level, we have seen the app hang the OS on our XP machines with small on board RAM.
I have also confirmed that the version of FireFox does not seem to matter. I can reproduce the issue in v17.x and v24.x.
Lastly, we have been using FireFox to access OWA/Office365 for a couple of months now. This issue just presented itself in the last few days – aprox 09/15/2013 or so.
I don’t have a solution. Just wanted to share what we have found.

    Hi,
Do you mean other machines that configured with the same email account don't have the issue?
Have you ever tried to manually download the Offline Address Book? On the ribbon, go to SEND/RECEIVE tab>Send/Receive Groups>Download Address Book...
If issue persists, please first check that the Background Intelligence Transfer Service (BITS) service is running:
Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools, and then click "Services".
In the list of services, click "Background Intelligence Transfer Service", and then make sure that the status of this service is set to "Started".
Outlook uses BITS to connect to the URL that's provided by the Autodiscover service. (Outlook use Autodiscover service to automatically configure themselves for access to Exchange server.)
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem Exporting Windows Live Mail 2012 To Outlook 2013 (Office 365 32 bit)

    Hi-
When I try to export my WLM to Outlook 2013, it hangs at the same record every time (record 55 of 2600+ -- that's just one folder, but the largest folder.) I probably have 10,000 emails in WLM.
It does not seem to be taking the emails from oldest to newest, so I cannot tell which email is tripping it up. I assume if it only made it to #55 of 10k, there are many more hang up points as well. I was exporting all folders. I was able to export a single,
very small folder successfully (30 emails.)
I tried exporting just the large folder by itself but it still hung at #55.
Any help in diagnosing/fixing would be greatly appreciated. WLM is a nightmare -- I have been paying the price ever since OE went away. I want to be rid of it once and for all.
    Thanks
    Brian

    Hi Brian,
First, I'd recommend you check if there are some large emails in the large folder. You can sort the emails by size to find those large emails. Then, just move these large emails to a subfolder and try exporting the rest emails into Outlook to see
    the result.
In addition, we can use the following method to import as many as possible emails in the large folder into your Outlook:
    1. In Windows Live Mail, create a subfolder under the large folder.
    2. Move half of emails from the large folder to the subfolder.
    3. Export the large folder and the subfolder separately into Outlook. This will help us determine which half part of the emails may hang the process.
    4. Repeat above steps for the problematic half part of emails.
Since this issue is also related to Windows Live Mail, you can also post your question in the forum for Windows Live Mail to see if we can get any good suggestions:

Suggest you either provide a screenshot of what exactly appears or at least provide specifics about the content of what you're encountering (specifics = content as it appears <exactly> on your screen without any para-phrasing). Without that - anyone

  • Office 365 Outlook Alert Box Notification when an email arrive

    Hi,
I use office 365 Professional and i search if i can have a notification like a window to alert me because an email is coming in Outlook 365.
I searched if a plugin for Chrome, Mozilla or Explorer exist to do that but i found nothing to help me.

    Hi Marc,
As per your description, seems you are referring to the browser version of Outlook for Office 365, not the desktop version of Outlook, correct?
If this is the case, as far as I know, you can display the mail notification by clicking the gear icon, then click options>settings>message options, tick the option of "Display a notification when a new email message arrives".
Please note this is the forum to discuss questions and feedback for Microsoft Office client. Better to post your question in the dedicated forum of
