HiI have a question from NSO-506 practice exam available from netapp.comhttps://learningcenter.netapp.com/content/public/production/extra/certification/NS0-506-PRACTICE/index.html You have an empty 50Gb space reserved lun1 in vol1 in aggr1. You run a "lun move" command to move lun1 to vol2 in aggr2.
You notice that the 50GB resrved LUN space is not reflected in the "used%" column for aggr2 in "storage aggregate" show output.
Why is the reserved LUN space missing from aggr21-The vol2 fractional reserve is set to 0
2-The vol2 fractional reserve is set to 100
3-The vol2 space guarantee is set to none
4-The vol2 space guarantee is set to volume I think that the correct answer is Nr 4. If destination volume has already reserved space from aggregate (guarantee=volume) then when you move lun to that volume, aggregate space free space is not reduced, cause it was reduced when volume was created already.BUTThe correct answer by this website is nr 3, i.e. gurantee set to none.I tried to reproduce this on my 8.3 system and looks like both answers are correct. I can't understand why lun reserved size is not reflected in aggr2 after lun move if guarantee was set to none? I checked, it does show that volume used size increased after move command, but no used% increase in aggregate.Why?Nick

Even though 4 may be correct, it is too trivial to be interesting. 3 demonstrates that LUN space reservation is not honored by aggregate if volume guarantee is set to none (and LUN is empty in this case).
Every test I took had some questions where you simply need to know what is expected to be correct answer. So even if you have good experience attending training makes sense - test questions are usually aligned with training materials.

FAS2040 volume and LUN configuration

So, we've inherited down some badly configured NetApp FAS2040's and I'm in the process of upgrading them to Data ONTAP 8.0.5 from 7.3.4 (7-mode). We're contractors so these things change hands quite a bit and just getting access to NetApp support was something of a task. Anyways, I've been working on this issue since no one feels comfrtable at it and I've run into some snags. I want to maximize space since we have 4 of these 2040's (12 600g 15k SAS drives), a 2020, and a FAS2040 with the DS4xx something shelf unit. Working with one aggregate is fine as we don't think we'll need the added protection from having a root aggregate and aggregate for data volumes. What is best way to setup these volumes and LUN's? I've looked at it from both angles of having 1 volume and 2-3 LUNs, or by having multiple volumes with one LUN each. I think the single volume works good enough and we could take advantage of deduplication more efficiently. However, I'm confused on something. If I make 2x 1.75 TB or 2x 1.5 TB LUNs does that give me enough space for snapshots? I don't want to make snapshots, but I'm confused on how these things operate as I was under the impression that I should have Fractional Reserve @ 100% and snapshots at 0, but I was getting out of space alerts (everything is thick provisioned). I then proceeded to changing the FR to 0 (unchecking it in OnCommand) and the alert went away in vCenter plugin. I say I don't want snapshots because I thought that taking advantage of SnapVault would be a great idea since we are running an old 4.1 vmware infrastructure, can't use VDP, and have no ways of buying a backup/dr software. I figured allocating a 2040 to backups with SnapVault or using the netapp plugin in vcenter to do scheduled backups would be decent enough for now. So... I'm incredibly confused on how to design the volumes in respect to not running out of space with this fractional reserver and snapshots. Am I making my luns to large for my volumes? Is there some mathmatical formula I should use?

Get LUN ID and TARGET ID

Given an entry in /dev/rmt, how do you programmatically get its LUN ID and target ID?
It shows up in dmesg's output but I'm wondering if there's a call to uSCSI to get in.
Under Linux, you can use ioctl(fd, SG_GET_SCSI_ID, &info) to get it.

LUN masking and zoning question.

Hi all,
If my storage array presents a number of LUNs/LDEVs down two physical fibre cables which are outputs from the primary and secondary controllers, and those two cables are ports on the MDS switches, do you need to know the LUN number as it was created on the array?
I read the Fabric Manager Configuration Guide and it talks about LUN masking at the array. It says to check the Check LUN box. I have not tried this so I was wondering if the LUNs on the array will appear for me to select. If there are say 8 LUNs presented (4 primary and 4 secondary), are they visible when using this option?
I have a fair sized number of new blades with HBA's with dual ports that need to connect to a large HP array. The setup will be one path goes from a 9216 to a 9509 via port channels (and another path through a similiar setup) to the HP array which will be presenting LUNs through LUN masking to the individual WWN's of the blade HBAs ports. There will be literally hundreds of LUNS coming out of the array so if they are presented in Fabric Manager, it would make my life easier especially when the array is looked after by HP and they might not be around when I start configuring the SAN.
Thats the joy of outsourcing.
Any help would be very welcome.

Finding out what LUNs are available is done via SCSI commands INQUIRY and REPORT_LUNS. In general, having the MDS discover the luns is not done since the MDS does not need to know. The end devices that are zoned and configured in the array's LUN security will need to know and they will use the two above frames to find this info out. The check luns checkbox that you reference is when doing LUN zoning (which is part of Enterprise license). In fact, the manner in which we are able to zone based upon a LUN is by trapping and manipulating the REPORT_LUNS frame. A generic implementation is to simply zone an initiator and a target via their PWWN's. Then, in the array, there is a security mechanism that allows the PWWN of a device to access a particular LUN. That LUN is then associated with a particular volume of disk space. However, we offer the capability to zone with the granularity of the LUN/PWWN combination if you so desire it.

RAID, clients, switch and LUN masking

To cut to the chase of it, I'm not sure if my LUN masking is set correctly.
I have a RAID unit with 4 slices. In RAID admin I have set the LUN mapping and masking according to the instructions in the RAID admin guide.
I also have 4 xserves ( all 10.4.6 ) - each is assigned ( mapped to and masked from ) its respective slice of the RAID through an emulex 355. The emulex utilizes a configuration file specified by emulex corporation for this specific apple/raid configuration.
User home directories reside on the RAID slices.
PROBLEM: When I log in a user on a desktop client ( 10.4.6 ) I can see the shared homedirectories on the other slices of the RAID via private/Network/Servers. This makes me nervous.
Note that the xserves DO NOT mount the other RAID slices.
Am I worrying over nothing or did I miss something in my setup? I'll be glad to post further details if requested.

I read about Failgroup of ASM.I am confused.Please clear it.
1,Any one of the disk(/devices/diska1) is failed(due to hardware issues) in a failure_group_1.We couldn't the second disk in the group until repair.Is my understanding is right?

1. If a disk in failgroup1 fails, the diskgroup itself will still be available. The database will be unaware of the failure and simply continue.
If the failed disk's repair time is exceeded, ASM marks that disk as bad and ejects it from the failgroup (disk is dropped).
If the failure is a cable fault and the disk fine, and the cable is repaired, and the repair time not exceeded, you can simply online the failed disk. It will be checked, enabled and rebalanced.
If the diskgroup, with the failed disk in failgroup1, is unmounted, it cannot be mounted normally afterwards. For example disk fails and cluster/ASM is bounced or restarted, diskgroups with broken failgroups cannot auto-mount. In this case you need to manually force the mount - which will work as long as that diskgroup has a single intact failgroup. After which you can proceed to fix the broken failgroup(s).
2. If a bunch of disks are sharing the same SCSI controller (think of it as a piece of h/w with a cable connecting a bunch of disks), and the controller fails, all disks on that controller is no longer accessible (disks may still be fine).
So you do not want to use those disks in different failgroups or even diskgroups - as a single SCSI controller failure will cause all the disks to fail, and all the failgroups in which these disks are used to fail. Ideally a SCSI controller failure should have minimal impact - which means it should only cause a single failgroup to fail. Not multiple failgroups.
3. A SAN creates logical devices for servers to use. These logical devices are called LUNs. A LUN can be a RAID5 or RAID10 configuration using 10 physical SAN disks.
The LUN is seen, via the storage fabric layer (e.g. fibre channels), by a server as if it the LUN is a physical SCSI disk. Typically the fabric layer will provide multiple I/O paths to the LUN. The server will see each of the I/O paths to a single LUN, as a separate SCSI disk.
From the server side, you do not know whether that SAN LUN is RAIDed, or how many actual SAN disks and SAN controllers are used for that LUN. Nor do you need to know that from the server side as it it not relevant to how the server use the LUN via multiple I/O paths.

GR with Excise Capuring and Posting ( Movements 103 and 105 )

Hi Sakhi,
When you post 103 the system takes it as GR blocked stock,not a valuated stock in plant.
But you can capture excise invoice at the time of 105 --i.e Release blocked stock and Post the same in J1IEX transaction.

These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID.
These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the applications.

You need to either delete and buy them, or get whoever holds that Apple ID to tell Apple to release them. On a Mac, deleting the applications won't affect their data, but that should be backed up anyway.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
     after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
     Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
     Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
