LV RT desktop configuration

Hi,
I am trying to get a desktop as a RT machine using LabVIEW RT with no luck, I thing I am trying this for the last 2 years.I am so tired, I have read the forum many times and the documents from ni.comNo luck.
I would like to know the desktop configuration (moder board manufaturer no, procesor, ethernet chipset, etc) used by users that have been lucky in getting desktop PC to run LV RT, and if any special "treatment" was necessary - just because once I have heard about "disabling UDMA" but I haven’t found out how to do it.
As I know that are many peoples that are trying to make PC desktop to run LV RT with no luck this might be slightly more helpful than reading 100 posts in which you are invited to read the LV RT documentation.
Please Help !!!
Andrei
PS I have successfully used LV real time at my former job on PXIs so I could say I know LV RT pretty well, but this didn’t helped me.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hi Mike,
I have formatted the HDD may times using different tools: Win XP CD, Partition Magic, Ultimate boot CD, Win98 start-up floppy.
I have removed the CD-Rom to have only the HDD on the IDE cable, and I used the floppy for LV RT (I didn’t used the USB stick just in case it will mix the drive letters, it didn’t worked anyway).
It didn’t help.
I have quit for the moment and I have installed Win XP on this HDD. I will try to get another HDD to try this entire LV RT thing.
I am very annoyed mainly because I have found a system that passed the LV RT test USB, but it was a relatively old Athlon system and I wanted something better.
At least XP is running well on my PC. I will try to get the details of the system that passed the LV RT tests just in case other users will be interested.
Best regards,
Andrei

  • Desktop Configurator LDAP

    Hi there.
We have Solaris10 x86 (patched to latest recommended), Sunray 4.0, authentication against LDAP and the Desktop Configurator installed.
On occasions we have noticed that the launchers and menu specified by the Desktop Configurator just don't appear. When this happens the Gnome element of the Configurator is still working because the gnome options are still working correctly (no terminal, blank background, permitted applications etc).
I have queried the apocd when this happens, using
    /usr/lib/apoc/apocd is-enabled
    /usr/lib/apoc/apocd status
    and everything reports fine.
I have also tried to apocd restart, apocd reload, apocd enable all of which report fine but make no difference to the user either straight away or when they have logged out and back in.
There are some messages in /var/adm/messages ..
DesktopControl[19085]: [ID 283427 user.error] An error occurred creating the launchers: Connection failure
DesktopControl[19086]: [ID 188575 user.error] An error occurred starting the applications: Connection failure
DesktopControl[19085]: [ID 113572 user.error] An error occurred while running the desktop applications 'menu' plugin: Connection failure
But this seems odd as the gnome agent is still working and we have a replicated LDAP service so connectivity should never be a problem. The LDAP services aren't under any sort of load and the network is ok.
If anyone else has experienced this then please post to say so and better still if anyone (Clever Sun person or not) has the solution.....
    Thanks,
    Andy

In the situation you describe with two logins, the result will depend on whether the two sessions end up on the same server. If they do, then the second desktopApps will replace the first one (which will get killed) and so the first desktopApps process won't linger. If, however, the two sessions are on different servers in the failover group, then the first one's desktopApps PID will get lost, and the process will stay around.
Using the host name alone will probably not be sufficient, however (in that case the first session on the host which exits will kill the process and leave the other sessions on the same host without it) and it probably would be better to use the host name and display. I'd suggest replacing the contents of /usr/dt/config/Xsession.d/0099.LegacyConfig with the following:
    PIDFILE=$HOME/.desktopApps.pid.`hostname`$DISPLAY
    if [ -f $PIDFILE ]; then
            PID=`cat $PIDFILE`
            kill -9 $PID > /dev/null 2>&1
            rm $PIDFILE
    fi
    /opt/SUNWapleg/bin/desktopApps &
    echo $! > $PIDFILE
/opt/SUNWapleg/bin/startupAppsand the much discussed line in /usr/dt/config/Xreset with:
cat $HOME/.desktopApps.pid.`hostname`$DISPLAY | xargs killThese modifications should create a per session PID file, which should help with consistency regarding the startup and destruction of desktopApps processes. Note, however, that this means there could be a few desktopApps processes running at the same time for the same user, all of them trying to add the launchers in the user home directories, so there could be some side effects there. As a matter of fact, there are other JDS applications which will have issues and/or strange behaviour when the user home is being accessed by multiple sessions.

  • [SOLVED] Clonning window in extended desktop configuration

    Hello,
Does anyone know whether it is possible to clone a window in a extended desktop configuration running two monitors?
I would like something like cloning the displays, but not for the entire screen, just for the windows that I want.
Something like I did on this poorly made image
Here is some link that I found, but I think that this doesn't cover this:

I made a little script to automate this process.
So one can just run it, select the window with the mouse and the vnc viewer pops out!

  • Xfce4 virtual desktop configuration and possible alternatives

I’ve been a satisfied xfce4 user for some time now, but my needs have recently changed.  In the past, I have used just a single Workspace/Desktop to meet my needs.  Now, however, I find myself needing several virtual Desktops to better organize my workflow.  For instance, I would like to have separate Desktops for different functions, such as: personal apps, business apps, utilities, remote desktop sessions, various VM’s, etc.
I know xfce4 supports multiple “Workspaces”, but I am currently unable to get them setup the way that I would like.  For example:
Xfce4 session manager only seems to offer to save the session information from the first “Workspace”, meaning that I’ll have to start several apps in all the additional Workspaces manually after every restart of X.
The xfce4 Panel doesn’t appear to be customizable for each individual Workspace.  I would like to have a different set of Launchers, Tray, and/or panel Widgets for different Workspaces if possible.
It would be convenient to have some Workspaces default to “tiled” and others to “floating” window presentation if possible, although this is of a lower priority to me.
Is something like this possible with xfce4?  Maybe I can replace some xfce4 components with something else to obtain more functionality?  Maybe something else altogether?  Or, is this all just wishful thinking?
I hate to abandon xfce4 (custom themes, configurations, comfort level, etc),.  But, I will if I can find a sufficient reason.  Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated!

    Hi ,
Personally , there is no problem with your server , it is just a mechanism like Identity Columns of SQL .
"Reuse of values – For a given identity property with specific seed/increment, the identity values are not reused by the engine. If a particular insert statement fails or if the insert statement is rolled back then the consumed
identity values are lost and will not be generated again. This can result in gaps when the subsequent identity values are generated."

  • Saving Multiple Desktop Configuration

This may be a complex question to ask/answer, but I was curious if there was any way to "save" a particular multi-desktop setup and launch it whenever I choose.
For example, usually when I'm working I find it most efficient to have five desktops running:
    Desktop 1: Mail
    Desktop 2: Calender
    Desktop 3: Notes/Reminders
    Desktop 4: Client Website 1
    Desktop 5: Client Website 2
However, it takes some time to organize it this way each and every time I want to work. I was wondering if there was anyone to save this configuration and activate it whenever I choose. I wouldn't want it to be this way every time I start the computer, but it would be nice to activate the five desktops in this configuration with one keystroke.
I'm not sure if this is even possible but am hoping there is some shortcut I don't yet know about.
    Thanks for any help!

When I restart, using the "Reopen windows..." checkbox, a number of my apps will "stay" on the Desktops where they were previously - but most don't. And I don't know of a way to force that to happen. Maybe someone will come along with an answer, as I'd sure like to be able to use that 'feature' (if it exists or it it can be done with some sort of haxie).

  • Desktop configuration for Lightroom 3

I am planning to upgrade my desktop computer, what kind of configuration
/hardware should I be looking for to get the best result from the Lightroom 3 and
    Photoshop CS5 softwares?
I'm not into games and movie ... just for photographic images development and display ... all other times I am using it for work.  Appreciate getting some advice before approaching the computer salesmen .

@clvrmnky:  I think you missed the fact that HowChun also wants to run CS5, which can certainly benefit from a faster graphics card, particularly with the latest offerings from NVIDIA. (Adobe has been working with them a lot lately.)  Given Photoshop's demanding system requirements, Photoshop users have always been a relatively close second to gamers in terms of always being on the lookout for ways to eek out another ounce of performance from their systems with upgrades or configuration tweaks.
@HowChun:  I would point you to the Adobe TechNote, "Optimize performance of Photoshop CS5 and CS4 on Windows 7, Vista, and XP:"
      http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404439.html
It is chock-full of excellent advice.
You didn't provide us with a budget, the types of images you work with, or how computer savvy you are, so it's impossible to make a specific recommendation.  I can say that you're lucky to be buying a new computer now, as just about every component category has a new generation of technology available:  great new Core i5 and i7 CPUs, fast triple channel RAM (for i7 9x0 CPUs), amazingly fast graphics cards, 4 Gbit/sec(!) USB 3.0, Solid State Drives (SSDs), etc.  Then there is the whole area of overclocking, liquid cooling, and other hyper-performance configurations, which make up the playing ground for Alienware, Origin Genesis, Falcon Northwest, and other companies.  They're happy to build you an amazing rig if you're not up to building it yourself.  But be forewarned... it can get expensive fast! (These rigs are almost exclusively for gamers, but you can customize many of them to be more optimized for LR3/CS5-type work.)
You should look at some of the awesome computer configurations other LR users have.  It should give you an idea of what's possible.  There are several in this recent thread:
      http://forums.adobe.com/message/2902956#2902956
There have been several other posts on this topic in the Lightroom forum, but unfortunately, a lot of people post without knowing much!
I would also encourage you to do a Google search for additional resources.  You might want to check out some of the performance sites, particularly Tom's Hardware Guide (http://www.tomshardware.com/us/), as well as (obviously) the Photoshop forum.
    Good luck to you!

  • Remote Desktop Configuration on Windows Server 2012 R2

Hi, I wanted to see if anyone knows how to access the console that was known before as Terminal Services Configuration.
I've been having trouble with some servers that have 2 or more NICs and sometimes the RDP protocol won't listen on the right IP and I can't connect until I disable the other NICs.
Usually in 2008 R2 I would just go on this console and define the specific IP Address in which the RDP Protocol should be listening to, but know I can't find this console anywhere on 2012 R2.
Any ideas on how I can get there or change this setting on Windows Server 2012 R2?
    Thanks
    Eduardo Rojas

    Hi,
Based on my research, please try the following on your Windows Server 2012 R2.
    1. Start Registry Editor.
    2. Navigate to the following registry key (path may wrap):
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3. Under this key are one or more keys for the globally unique identifiers (GUIDs) corresponding to the installed LAN connections. Each of these GUID keys has a Connection subkey. Open each
of the GUID\Connection keys and look for the Name value. Choose the connection you want Terminal Services to use.
    4. When you have found the GUID\Connection key that contains the Name setting that matches the name of your LAN connection, write down or otherwise note the GUID value.
    5. Then navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\lanatable. Using the GUID you noted in step 5 select subkey. Note it's LanaId.
    6. Navigate to the following value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\LanAdapter. Change it's data to the value you noted in step 6. If you want RDP to listen on all LAN
    adapters enter value of 0.
Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you
modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, please refer to
How to back up and restore the registry in Windows.
    Hope this helps.

  • UCCX 5.0 agent desktop configuration and customizations

    Hello,
My client would like that the chat function be available so that their agents can speak to all agents even if they are on different teams. My understanding is that the chat function is only between supervisors/agents within a team.
Would there be any way to change this?
    Thank you.

    Hi
No - teams and CSQs are different concepts.
Teams determine who can Supervise what - so for example, you can split up large teams so that one Sup can see half the agents that they manage directly and see the CSQs you deem are related to their role.
CSQs control who the calls are actually routed to.
So you can have one team (which has all Sups, all agents, and all CSQs associated to it). This means all agents can chat, and all Sups can see all agents and CSQ stats.
You can still have two CSQs, and the calls will be sent the agents with the correct skills or resource group membership.

  • How to add shortcuts to user Start Menu and Taskbar or Desktop with using Microsoft Office 2013 Config file.

    Hello,
How can i add the shortcuts for Office 2013 feature (Word, excel, ext) to the users taskbar or desktop with using config.xml file while installing the Microsoft Office 2013 from SCCM?
I know how to do that with OCT, but i have another problem if i use OCT. So i have to do it with Config.file, but i don't know which code can i write on config.xml file to create shortcut on desktop or taskbar...
    Regards,

    Hi
There is a known issue about
changing the shortcut location for an Office 2013 application:
When you try to change the shortcut locations for Office 2013 applications in the Office Customization Tool (OCT), you receive the following error message:
Invalid start in folder. Please try again.
Then, you add the Start in location for Office 2013 and run a customized installation. When you double-click the shortcuts that are displayed on the desktop, Configure shortcuts does
not work and you receive the following error message:
Sorry, we couldn’t find your file. Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?
To work around this issue, type a single open bracket ([) in the Start in
    field.
In addition, refer to the link below on "Configure shortcuts" in OCT:

  • Can you assign a  customized menu in Java Desktop

I have a large number of users and I'm trying to customize a menu system when you click on "Launch". I need to create a menu that is unique for different users, so say group A can have one menu system and group B can have a different menu.
I've found info on adding items to a menu for all users, and for specific users one at a time if you log in as their user. In file browser, (applications-all-users:/// for all users, and just applications://// for an individual). But I have too many users which makes one at a time not feasible.
Is there any way to customize a menu setup, then assign that menu to groups instead of users? I'm running Solaris 10 with Java Desktop 3.
    Thanks for the help.

Sounds like you might want to investigate the JDS Configuration Manager, it was designed to allow different desktop configurations for different groups of users. http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1221.1?l=en&q=java+desktop+system+configuration+manager

  • Can I create a Desktop page on the wiki ?

    Hi there,
I was using Arch since 1 or 2 weeks now, and I am still in the 'tune the system to get a working desktop' phase.
On the way, I took extensive notes about everything I installed and set-up.
So I was thinking about creating a wiki page (that could be named something like : "Desktop Arch : Zero2Heaven") that list every step to get a working desktop configuration.
The idea is to provide a guide to set up a workstation easily for a non-guru arch new user like me.
Before doing anything, I just wanted to be sure creating this kind of page isn't against some wiki protocol (I don't think so but better safe than sorry ).
    See you around

That's why OP's personal preferences should go to his user page and not as a regular article.
I've seen wiki user pages that listed some configs that their authors found useful, nothing wrong with that.
I think there is something missing in the documentation / wiki : How to mount 'quickly' a usable desktop configuration.
The idea was to hook false beginner / 'young' intermediate Linux user, that want to give Arch a try, but don't have the knowledge/experience to sort all the info available in the wiki to install a desktop config.
IMO this could help expand the user base.

    PS :  I was going for LXDE + java + audio/video codex + usb auto-mounting + some fonts...
Of course I don't pretend this is THE ultimate desktop experience (everyone has his own preferences).
But at least by following the guide I was thinking about, someone can have a -fast- usable desktop in 10 / 15 min.

  • Why is Remote Desktop running when I have it disabled?

I am running Windows 7 Professional. Looking at the Event Viewer today, I examined Microsoft/Windows/Terminal Services/Local Session Manager/Operational. There are 1,959 events recorded, dating back to 7/30/2014. A typical entry--one from today, reads in
the details: Remote Desktop Services: Session Logon Successful. User: PC\UserName Session ID:2. Source Network Address: LOCAL. The subsequent entry reads: Remote Desktop Services: Shell Start Notification Received. User: PC\UserName. Session ID:2. Source Network
Address: LOCAL. There are also entries for Session Logoff Succeeded, Session Has Been Discontinued, and Session Has Been Reconnected. It appears that these entries have been recorded each time we log on, log off, and switch user. My question is: Why are these
events being recorded under Terminal Services and Remote Desktop Services events? Under Services, I have disabled Remote Desktop Configuration, Remote Desktop Services, and Remote Desktop Services User Mode Port Redirector. In Control Panel/System, I have
unchecked the box for "Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer."
About a month ago, I discovered a strange new hardware installation of a PS/2 mouse and i8042 port in the Event Viewer. Consequently, under Hidden Devices in Device Manager, I did see the PS/2 mouse that I never installed.
Yesterday, I ran netstat -anobv and it showed two ports listening on the network for which it said, "Cannot obtain ownership information." One was port 445, for which I have blocked incoming activity on the firewall. The other was port 5357,
which according to Microsoft has some security vulnerabilities related to Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication. Since this is a standalone PC with no network attached devices, I disabled both of these services. As of
this morning, the PS/2 mouse has disappeared from Device Manager.
A new process has popped up using netstat -anobv, on port 8883. It's IANA registered to MQTT. Should I be concerned about the Remote Desktop Services shown in Event Viewer? I thought it was a cause for concern, especially due to the appearance of the PS/2
mouse and the i8042 port which I did not install. Thank you for your help with this issue.

    Hi Tergivesada,
You may upload the log files into OneDrive and paste the shared link here, we will help to check it out.
For other considerations, some application might also take use of remote services to cause Windows record the logon events, which should be considered a normal behavior. Reference:
    Remote Desktop Services.
For the security consideration, you may take use of Windows Security Essentials to help protect your machine:
