LV2009 and Active Desktop

I have a machine code done in LV2009 and running on WIN-7 platform. All well till the client decided to invoke Active Desktop on his PC. For some odd reason there have been random freezing of the LV application since then. Confirmed on two independent machines on two different networks.
Not sure what is the offending part of active desktop. The active desktop is part of a recent security beef up at my client end and all networked PCs on LAN have to run the active desktop with the company logo and such. Unfortunatley I cannot take the PC of the network as all data saving happens on a networked drive.
Any idea why this is happening and if its a known issue any way out ?? Thanks in advance.

Hi Me, myself, and I,
What you downloaded is an animated gif. AFAIK desktop does not support animated gifs. You can drag it to a Safari window and it will animate. You can also drag it into a Text Edit window and it will animate but not on desktop or in Screensavers. Someone may know a workaround but I haven't seen it.

  • Can CC and CS6 be installed and active on the same desktop?

Only one of the CS series can be installed and active on a single computer. Is this true with CC and CS6?

Only one of the CS series can be installed and active on a single computer.
Where did you hear that? That's simply completely untrue. Using multiple versions of CS products never has been an issue and neither is it for CC and CS6. Each major version uses it's own unique activation.

  • Don't knoe if you can help for this but i keep getting the error message " active desktop revcovery",desktop has been turned off. I followed troubleshooting tips and tried to restore. no luck. can you help?

Desktop background turned white. shortcuts work ok.

I think this is not a Firefox issue. Please try this: Right-click on the desktop, choose 'Properties' click the 'Desktop' tab and 'Customize Desktop' > 'Web'. Deselect or delete all the web addresses in the middle box. And click 'Ok'.

  • VMWare Fusion and Parallels Desktop Benchmark Comparison

This is a quickie benchmark of VMWare Fusion and Parallels Desktop using Super PI, PC Mark 05, and Passmark.
    VMWare Fusion 36932
    Parallels Desktop 3094 Beta 2
    Notes:
Both virtual machines were allocated with large 10+ GB virtual disks and 640MB of RAM. The VMWare CPU was configured with two processors. The Parallels CPU was configured with 1 (two is not available). VMWare reported the CPU as 1 physical, 2 logical processors running at 2.66 GHz while Parallels reported 1 physical, 1 logical processor running at 9.6 GHz (the combined speed of all four cores on the Mac Pro). The max observed CPU utilization in activity monitor when running under VMWare was 200% and max under Parallels was 173%.
I chose not to compare 1 VMWare CPU vs. 1 Parallels CPU. While Parallels does not support SMP or multithreaded processes on multiple processors the CPU utilization on the Mac went well above 1 core (173%). For this comparison, I wanted to see results of max processing based on what the two vendors have delivered, as opposed to benchmarking the underlying "virtual or hypervisor cpu" on a 1:1 basis. This explains why VMWare was 2x faster than Parallels on some CPU tests.
Both of these products are beta. VMWare is running in debug mode (can not be turned off in this beta).
Caveat emptor on these stats. This was an unscientific exercise to satisfy my curiosity. Some of the extraordinary differences are highlighted with <--.
    Platform:
Mac Pro 2.66 GHz, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 7300GT
    Disk 1 - OS X, 73GB Raptor
Disk 2 - dedicated disk where each virtual machine image was created separate from the OS or any OS-related virtual memory files.

Thanks for posting these numbers - it's an interesting comparison.
I would expect the final VMWare fusion performance numbers to be quite a bit better than that of Parallels - they have almost a decade's worth of experience more than the Parallels folks in this arena, and a much larger development team to boot.
Once VMWare Fusion is released to the public, I think that you'll see a clearer distinction between the two products. VMWare will continue to appeal to the professional customer, with a more robust feature set and corporate-friendly features (and a correspondingly higher price tag); Parallels will fall more into the consumer/VirtualPC-replacement market. It will be interesting to see how Parallels will be affected when (and if) VMWare player is ported to OS X.
Interesting about the Parallels performance stats on a native partition - looks like almost enough reason to avoid the bootcamp partition approach altogether. Sharing a native windows installation with a VM in parallels is a pretty scary situation in any case, as the two environments have entirely different hardware configurations. Do-able, but there is some black magic involved (if you want to see an example of what I mean, try to move a windows installation from one machine to another w/different hardware sometime - it ain't pretty); I wouldn't try this in a production scheme unless I had REALLY good backups.

  • Adobe Application Manager Won't Open and CC Desktop failed to install

I am running Win 7 Ultimate. Adobe Application Manager Won't Open and CC Desktop failed to install on my computer after I signed up for Adobe CC tonight. I am currently using the CS5 suite (perpetual license) and do not want to uninstall any of the programs until I am successfully running the Adobe CC versions. The AAM gives me an error message saying that it failed to open when I select it, and the creative cloud installer fails to install. I have tried restarting my computer. Help? This is very frustrating. I am a student and use this software on a daily basis, and can't afford to not have these programs available when I need them.

Could you try disabling graphics hardware acceleration? (I'm having trouble determining from your "More system information" whether it's enabled or disabled.) Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If you restart Firefox, is the issue resolved?

  • I need to re install creative cloud and related desktop application after hard disk formatting. Please advise?

My hard disk got reformatted recently, please advise how to re install creative cloud and related desktop application like LR & PS on the same machine.

    Hello,
to reinstall CC shouldn't be a problem. You could download all the programs you need in the "try" Version from Adobe's download website. Because you have all needed serial numbers and so on, you can change your programs into "real" versions.
Maybe it'*s necessary, that you have to activate/deactivate pleae have a look there:

  • Mac laptop screen going to sleep and changing desktop background

last weekend my daughter called to say that her Macbook was acting strange. On Friday night she saw the battery icon said 25%, so she shut the system down. The next morning she plugged it in and booted. It took a while and the desktop background had changed to something grey. Also, the screen would blank out after 30 seconds to a minute. If she hit the space bar it would show and then go black after the 30 to 60 second time period. I had her shutdown and boot to her external drive where she had a month old image of her system. It took a minute or two to boot (it always seems like a long time when you are on the phone). It came up as her normal system and background. She left it for over an hour and it did not black out or go to sleep. We were planning on doing a restore the next day, but when she did a normal boot later that day from the internal hard drive, it came up with her normal background and the screen stayed active. She had not tried to set any settings. Is there something that a low battery would do to change the energy settings? We were going to explore the settings when the system magically worked as normal. It seems strange that a boot to the external drive would restore settings so that the system worked normally.

Energy Saver and third party USB often don't go well hand in hand. I would though contact OWC and let them know you are having this problem, since they have a good track record of supporting the Mac platform. In the meantime, use Screen Saver instead of Energy Saver.
And always keep your data backed up at least twice as my FAQ explains:

  • Active desktop?

Active desktop? I think that's what they called it in Windows. Does anyone know how I can set a desktop image that moves? I know how to go through preferences and choose a file. But I found a little GIF on the internet, a little face with bliking eyes, that I would like to use as the image on my desktop. -- A silly, waste of time quest. But no matter how I download it, and no matter where I save it, the image that is saved to the desktop doesn't blink. Thanks for any help.

  • My pointer keeps turning into a colorful spinning pinwheel. Mac OS X (10.5.8) using a wireless mouse and keyboard, desktop computer

My pointer keeps turning into a colorful spinning pinwheel. Mac OS X(10.5.8) using a wireless mouse and keyboard ,desktop computer.

The spinning wait cursor (or "beachball") generally means there's some problem that's causing the current app to freeze, or slowing down the current application, or that's slowing down the whole system.
Here's an overview of the spinning wait cursor.
Make a backup first, using the Disk Utility tool booted from your installation DVD to external storage.  This backup to ensure you still have access to your most current and complete data, shut this be a problem with your hardware.
Then use Utilities > Activity Monitor.app and the Utilities > Console.app tools to see what's going on, and whether there are related errors being logged.
There are some general troubleshooting articles around, too.

  • Worth upgrading to 5.5? (And activation woes)

I have CS5 Web Premium, and here's the issue: I originally installed and activated it on 2 computers. My desktop got corrupted, so I had to reinstall, but didn't have a chance to deactivate first. Support gave me another activation, and I was fine. Then, I updated the firmware on my ssd, and installed new storage drives, and CS5 wanted me to activate it again (had no idea that was going to happen). So I called support again, and they bumped it to 4, but said that's the last bump they could do. I asked if they could remotely deactivate everything for me, but they can't. He mentioned that 5.5 has the ability to fix this to some extent, but I'm not sure the $400 upgrade price is worth it (that said, if I need to re-install the software and can't deactivate first, I'm not going to be able to use it). Thoughts?

It sucks that you have had that bad of luck with that computer.  I don't know how upgrading to a newer version would change how their activation system works but then again I don't work for Adobe so I don't know the complete details.  I do know that an installation on the same computer is not necessary for an upgrade.  The software typically looks for an installed copy and if it cannot find it, it will start asking for serial numbers.  If I were you and did not need the upgrade I would wait and hope that desktop keeps kicking for a little while longer.  If it dies once more I'd seriously consider the upgrade at that point and strongly recommend a new computer or different parts.

  • Corrupt, flashing graphics in Safari windows and unresponsive desktop

The MBP I bought in June is essentially a lemon. Multiple crashes, failures, kernel panics, gray screen of death, etc. Per the warranty, first the RAM was replaced, then the logic board. I also did a OSX reinstall, and unfortunately that hasn't fixed the most common, ongoing problem, which I believe is relevant to Safari and possibly Adobe Flash. Would love some help/input! Here are the details.
While using Safari, from time to time when I open a new window, all that window displays is random flashing blocks of graphic gibberish. It doesn't matter what website I'm trying to go to. That's unfortunately the best way to describe it. The window thus loses total functionality, and the only way to get rid of it is to quit and re-launch Safari. Also when this happens, other problems occur:
    1) Impossible to take a screenshot -- if I do, it produces a solid black image.
    2) I keep getting logged out of all Google accounts and activity.
    3) The desktop and folders lose functionality. I can't open folders, select icons, open documents, etc. Icons also disappear, with only their title text beneath them.
    4) Eventually Safari crashes.
Things I have done to remedy this: reinstall the system, made sure all software is up to date (including Adobe Flash), hardware test, disk utility tests, cleared history/cache/cookies. I dread the idea of going back again to the Genius Bar, being told it's all my fault, having to ask them to take any corrective action, and then their stupid attempt to make me feel guilty for pursuing my warranty options (MBP covered by extended Apple Care).
    Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Thanks -- this suggestion seems to have worked, I haven't had corruption or crashes since making that setting in Preferences. Hopefully they'll issue a patch to fix this in a future update. Many thanks again!
