Lvwutil32 & TS4.x with LV8.5 RTE

Hi,
I am trying to complete a TS4.0.1 + LV8.5.1 RTE deployment that uses functionality within the lvwutil32 utilities.
Everything if OK with LV8.5.1 development environment but TS+LV crash out when I change over to the RTE. I believe this is because the Lvwutil32.dll needs to be rebuilt with the latest LV8.x??
Anyone experienced similar problems? and more importantly were you able to fix?
Any help appreciated - I can work around this issue, for my current small app., but these utilities are very usefull and I would like to continue using them.
PS: I have posted this message on the TestStand forum as well

Ian,
I have exactly the same problem as you but TS4.0 + LV8.5 RTE
I already did a Mass Compile LV8.5.
My test sequence crash out when I change over to the RTE when using "lvwutil32.dll".
How did you solve this issue?
Thanks a lot.

  • Is Shared Variable Engine with LV8 an OPC server ?

    Hello
Is the shared variable engine with LV8 an OPC server ?
Does any OPC client can acces to Variable Engine OPC server an read shared variable ?
Can I build an installer and deploy my application with Variable Engine OPC server on other PC without LV8.
    Thank you

    Hi
You can communicate between an OPC serveur and LV8 and use shared variable. To deploy an LV8 exe application, you must have the run time engine installed on the PC without installing LV8. You can create a setup with LV 8 in which you can integrate the run time engine.

  • Annotation problem with LV8.6

The attached code when run under LV2009 gives the required result as below
But with LV8.6 always results in slanted marker lines as below.
Can't figure out what is going wrong ? In fact the Markers are at the right location but the problem is the lower nodes which seem to be stuck at some odd place and hence result in slanted lines.

  • Setting Search Directory with LabVIEW RTE

    Hi,
I've LabVIEW 8.0.1 run time engine installed on target computer and would like to run LabVIEW executable on target computer.  I also have required low level support VIs for developed VIs.
Question is: how do I set the search directory for low level VIs with LabVIEW run time engine installed on the system.
    Suggestions/comments are appreciated.  Thank you.

If your hierarchy is the same as was in the IDE, then there won't be a need to search for the VIs. If the VIs are not found where they are expected to be, then LV (including the RTE) starts to search for them first in the folder where the VI\application is and then in the folders in its list. To change the list, you need to place the viSearchPath key in your application's INI file. You can copy this key from the labview.ini file and then modify the paths listed in it.

  • Using Cpp code and header files with LV8 CIN

    Hello,
I have three pieces of C++ code and their header files that are called from a Main C++ code.  I want to call these from a LV8, code interface node (CIN).  I have the C++ compiler installed on teh same machine as LV8.  My questions are:
    1) How do I call the C++ code anf the header files from the LV CIN?  I have never doen this. Is there a concise manul for this somewhere?  Teh last thing any self-respecting engineer wants to do is read the manual.
    2)  Once I successfully call teh C++ and header files from within the CIN, can I create a LV runtime executable, just as I can with any other LV8 .vi?  Will this runtime .exe run stand-alone as a distribuatble application?  Do I need to include any special runtime files when I build the exectuable to support teh C++ code?
    Thank you.

    Good morning Trinight,
The VI that you are using, IMAQ Create.VI, is actually installed by the Vision Acquisition Software cd, and is part of the NI-IMAQ driver.  What is the version of the IMAQ driver that you have installed?  Is this error consistent among all IMAQ VI's?  Does the same thing happen with Vision functions, such as IMAQ Overlay.VI?
Please respond and I'll do my best to help out!

  • NI-IMAQ for USB 1.1.1 will not install with LV8 and Vision 8.0 or 8.21

When I try to install NI-IMAQ for USB 1.1.1 I get a message that vision 7.1 or higher with  Labview 7.0 or higher;  or Vision Assistant 7.1 or higher is required, I have tried the vision 8.0  and vision 8.2.1 packs with Labview 8.0 with no success.

    Hello mcg,
I am not familiar with NI-IMAQ for USB 1.1.1.  The newest version I know of that we have is 1.0 at the following link:
    NI-IMAQ for USB Cameras 1.0
You are correct that you need LabVIEW 8.0 and Vision 8.0 installed.  After this you should be able to install this very simply.  If that's still giving you trouble, try repairing LabVIEW and repairing Vision (Start » Control Panel » Add or Remove Programs » National Instruments Software » LabVIEW or Vision » Repair).
Please let us know if you have any more trouble on this.  Please post a screenshot of the error as well.

  • Running .exe with VDM RTE

    Hi,
I have written an executable in Labwindows/CVI that implements imaqSubtract and imaqThreshold and I'm trying to run it on another computer that has the Vision Run-Time license on it but It will not do the subtraction or threshold.  Is there something special I need to do when building the executable to make it run on a computer with only the Run-Time license?  Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When you say "It will not do the subtraction or threshold" what do you mean? Are you getting a specific error? Are you getting a hang in your program? If you could give a little more information it might narrow down the possibilities for what's going on.
Licensing is something that people often get confused on with vision software. You may want to double check that everything is set up right. You can see a bit of information about licensing and applications with the Vision Development Module in this KnowledgeBase http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/F1699570F78FECBB86256B5200665134?OpenDocument#VDMRTE

  • Labview 7.1 to Labview 8.0 upgrade

    Greetings all,
My company has recently aquired labview 8.0 licences and is intending to use it as its development platform instead of labview 7.1. the problem is that all of our customers are currently running executables generated in a labview 7.1 environment and any updated versions of our software that we will send them in the future will most likely be developed in labview 8.0. The question is , other than sending them the executables generated by LV8 along with LV8 RTE are there any problems. did any one see a problem with a conversion like this. i have done alot of reasearch about this and have been testing the converted code from 7.1 to 8 and the executalbes generated by 8.0 and i havent seen any major problems. any feedback on a related probelm would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Only thing I've noticed so far is that LV8 uses the show scrollbar setting from it's contained vi and LV7 doesn't. Very minor...
We had some problems with old daqmx that wasn't working with LV8 vi's, and the new daqmx didn't support the hardware. We solved it by copying some LV7 vi's to LV8. I don't know all the details, my colleague worked on it.
I hear some stories about multi platform deployment problems (FPGA, RT..), but I don't know any details.
If all hardware is working, I wouldn't be concerned.
    Regards,
    Wiebe.

  • Trouble running LV8 application w/RTE

I am new to LV8.  I am trying to build an exe file from a VI that was created I believe with LV 6, and downloaded from the example code library.  When I build the application, it creates a folder with the exe file, an ini file and a .aliases file.  Also a subfolder named data, which contains lvdaq.dll.  When I try to run the application with the developement PC, I get an error message indicating that it cannot communicate with the DAQ board.  I believe that this indicates that the application has loaded properly, but since the PC does not actually have the DAQ board installed, it cannot run properly.  The second PC has the LV8 RTE installed as well as NI VISA 4.3.  It also does have the DAQ board installed.  When I try to run the application with this PC, I get an "endless" string of eror messages.  The first message is:
"The ordinal 2011 could not be located in the dynamic link library nidaq32.dll"
This seems odd, because I cannot see where this dll is referenced anywhere in the VI or sub VIs.  The second error is:
"lvdaq.dll is not a valid labview file."
The lvdaq.dll file located in the data folder is the same size and date as the file in the LV8 daq folder.  The second PC does have LV6.02 installed.  Is it possible that for some odd reason the LV8 RTE is trying to use the version of lvdaq in the LV6 directory?

The VI runs under LV6 on this PC until I get the error message, which can take 20 minutes or so.  I am grasping at straws in the hope that there is something in LV8 that will prevent the underrun/overrun problem that I am experiencing with LV6.02.

  • How can I build app's for RTE 8.0 with Labview 8.2

Is there a possibility to build applications with LabView 8.2 in a way to execute them with the RTE 8.0. It's not a problem to save the sourcecode as LabView 8.0 format, but if I build this code e.g as  *.exe and try to execute with RTE 8.0 an error occured. The errormessage is, that it's not possible to execute an file created for RTE 8.2 with RTE 8.0. What is to do to build an RTE 8.0 compatible application?

Applications written for 8.0 will only run with the 8.0 rte. New applications written for 8.2 will run only with the 8.2 rte. Your internal support doesn't know what it is talking about if they think otherwise. No need to upgrade the rte unless you paln to rebuild the 8.0 apps with 8.2. Both run times can be installed on the same pc if the old apps are working. Not much reason to change unless they need to be edited and you use 8.2 as the editor. I would image that if you build a new app in 8.2, it would have to undergo the same quality check as the 8.0 applications.
You are able to do a save as for 8.0 so that users with 8.0 can open them and use them with the older version. It's simply not possible for a newer development environment to target a build for an older run-time. Before you even do a build, the source code is compiled for the version you are currently using. The only way to swithc compilers is to switch versions of LabVIEW.

  • LV8 Application builder/ installer questions

I am having trouble in building my installers within LV8. Everything is in the Project Manager and I am able to build an Executable that works. but when I build an installer and try to run the installer on a 2000 or XP machine I get the attached error. I found if I continue on the error everything gets installed ecept my application. If I manually install my application everything works. so with the RTE on a system without LV8 installed my EXE works.
I cannot figure out exactly what I am doing wrong. I am thinking it could be on the  Registry tab of the installer as I did not adde or change anything. the PDF CD I received with LV8 talks about the App Builder from 7.1 which does not help. The program I am working on building worked fine in 7.1.1. Source files look to be done correctly and I check marked the Register COM ont he source files settings page as I am using ActiveX to access Excel.  It is configured to install RTE 8.0, I have the Shortcuts set as well, but on a NON Dev machine (no LV8) the installer does not work. but on my Dev machine it seems to work fine.
    Any ideas?

I think I got it working.. I deleted the old files int he destination for the build and tried again. I left the ActiveX Server unchecked and verified the Register COM was checked. created a new installer and built it and is seems to work.

  • How do I use VIs developed on LabView v8.2.1 with a system running LabView v7?

Hi...I need to use VIs developed on v8.2.1 for a Network Analyzer on another system having v7.0. Is there any way to down-convert or save VIs for previous version 7.0? I checked the 'save with options' menu but could only find v8.0 in the list of previous versions. Thanks.

    Hi Omkar,
to save it for LV 7.0 you need LV 8.0 and as far as i know LV 7.1. With LV8.0 you can save it for LV7.1 and with 7.1 you can save it for 7.0. If you have only a few vi´s you can ask someone here in the forum if he can help you.

  • Problems building a stand alone application with LV 8.6.1.

I'm having problems building  a stand alone application with LV8.6.1. I'm using a USB- 6008 DAQ and USB-6501 Digital device in the application. I already have an simple executable on the machine so the Run time Engine is already installed.  For the USB DAQ device, I assume I need to include the DAQmx8.8 as one of the installers. When I attempt to build the application, I'm prompted for several disk, one being a distribuition disk 1. I have the installation disk for the developer package. I did not  see a distribuiton disk as one of the installation disks. When I insert disk 1 I get an error that another application is trying to run. Could someone tell me which installers I need to include and where do I find the "distributor" disk.
    Thank you,

are you building installer for the first time on this PC?...It usually asks for the drivers CDs and some toolkits if required.
you just need to use drivers CDs (comes with LabVIEW) from which you installed on this PC. If you have ever upgraded drivers, then you have to use the latest CDs only.......
another issue may be ...when u insert the driver disk, it has autorun, it will launch drivers installation wizard....close that and then try to build distribution.........

  • Problems bundling visa run time with installer

I am trying to build an installer for an application that makes VISA read/writes through a serial port.  I have tried to create an installer for this application but I keep getting a cryptic error that then terminates LV.  I am experiencing the same problem as described in this thread:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=228510&query.id=494979#M228510
I am developing with LV8.2 on XP SP2.  I would like to bundle the VISA Run Time so that I can communicate via VISA R/Ws.  After reading the above mentioned thread it didn't seem like there was ever a real resolution to the problem.  I am bundling the VISA Run Time engine just fine with other projects and I have deleted and started over several times with the installer inside this project, but I keep getting the same error, see attached document.
So are there any ideas short of me having to reinstall LV or VISA?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the reply.
I would agree that the project is corrupted.  I think I proved to myself that this was the case when I created a new project and magically everything worked just fine.  The project was created under the exact same release of LV by the same PC so I am just trying to understand why the project was corrupted while trying to build the installer.
I guess I have my solution now I'm into the deep dark hole of trying to understand why the error occured.  I know once I go down this path there is no returning.......
    Thanks!
