LXDE: wrong keyboard layout or keyboard type?

Hi all!
I'm running Arch on LXDE, and having a keyboard issue
I set the keyboard layout during the Arch install (a french keyboard), and on LXDE (editing /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart)
SO, I got the right azerty layout, but there's some keys I don't have access to.
Mainly the "alt" ones:
ie, I can press the "_" key, and acess "8" with shift, but can't acess the "anti-slash" with right alt
nor the "at" character with alt+0
I guess it's probably more of a keyboard "type" than a keyboard "layout" issue, but I can't find any info on the wiki?

  • Wrong keyboard layout after Mavericks update

    Hi,
after update to OSX Mavericks the wrong Keyboard Layout is selected on Logon Screen after reboot and/or logoff.
If i change it from "US" to "German" it will show the "US" again after next logoff/reboot.
Befor the update to Mavericks, the language was only german and this was fine for me.
Maybe someone have a solution, because i don´t want the US Keyboard Layout at the Logon Screen...
    regards
    Mathias

    Hi,
two things I can think off:
    1. Check if you have set your keyboard in xorg.conf as described here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … S_keyboard
    2. Open dconf-editor, surf there to org.gnome.libgnomekbd.keyboard
I have Layout set to ['de\tnodeadkeys'] there.

  • Wrong keyboard layout with sgd 4.31.901 client on Ubuntu 9.10

    Hello,
I have to log in to my work network using the sgd client (.tarantella/tcc/4.31.905) via firefox on Ubuntu Linux 9.10.
It is working fine except from a wrong keyboard layout. The X and Y keys are switched and all the special symbols are on unexpected places (@#:"|;'\<>,.). I have a normal us-international keyboard. It looks like the keymap is set to a german keyboard layout.
Our helpdesk doesn't understand linux. And I think it has something to do with the right ubuntu settings coming from the sgd linux client to the server.
Could anyone please help me with this?
    Bart

I'm on Ubuntu 10.04 now, and the problem came back. The export XKEYSYMDB=/usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB
    line does not work anymore.
First I logon to the sgd server. After that I get my sgd desktop, from where I select (for example) outlook. The Windows network password is going well, and it contains a "y". But in Outlook or any other application like word or excel the y and z are swapped.
Could please anyone help me with this? My work ICT department is not one of the best. ;-)

  • Looking for "Change Keyboard Type"-Button

Hi. After installing Snow Leopard my Keyboard (from Cherry) works a bit wrong (some keys have wrong characters). I think there is something wrong with identification of the keyboard and wand to change it's type. "Help" (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8962.html) says:
    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Keyboard.
    2. Click Change Keyboard Type.
The problem is, that there is no such Button "Change Keyboard Type" in Keyboard Prefs!
So where can I change the type?
    Thanks,
    JB

    Hello Tom,
I'm using two layouts - one is German and one is Russian-PC (Russian layouts are a little different for PCs and Macs). I don't know if it matters, but the system is running in English.
I still believe, that the problem is in keyboard configuration. As I was installing 10.6, system asked me to "Press a button next to the left Shift" to identify, which type of keyboard I use. I didn't understand what the system wants from me and pressed a wrong key (I believe, I tried to press "Escape" but instead pressed the "^" key).
Exactly the same thing happend to me a couple of times as I was installing 10.5.x - this message for Keyboard config is some kind of, I dunno, magic for me (or some poor interface design) - I always miss the point, and I've always pressed the wrong key. But in 10.5. there was a possibility to run keyboard identification once again from "Keyboard" menu (and so says "Help", too). But there is no more this button and I don't know if there were any other way to run identification again. (I've tried to plug-out and plug-in again, but it didn't help).
Thanks for your help, I look forward to try to change layouts.

  • Wrong keyboard mapping on a MacBook C2D 2.0 GHz. with german keyboard,

I think people with a english keyboard won't have this problem.
It might be interesting if other people will have the same problem,
    with non english keyboards.
But if you have a english keyboard please feel free to test.
    Summary:
Wrong keyboard mapping on a MacBook C2D 2.0 GHz. with german keyboard, when choosing chinese "Hanin" input with YiTian keyboard layout.
    Steps to Reproduce:
    A) MacBook C2D 2.0 GHz (white) with german keyboard
    B) MacOSX 10.4.8
    1. choose System Preferences - International - Input Menu
    2. select Traditional Chinese and only Hanin
    3. close System Preferences
    4. open TextEdit
    5. type 'y' to test if it still displays 'y'
    6. choose the german flag next to the system clock and select chinese Hanin
    7. press OptionShiftU to get preferences of Hanin
    8. choose Modes - ZhuYin - YiTian
    9. close preferences of Hanin
    10. choose the Hanin symbol next to the system clock and select "Show Keyboard Viewer"
    11. type in TextEdit again 'y'
    Expected Results:
You should see a chinese character which looks like a nose with a mouth in a side view.
    Actual Results:
You get a chinese character which looks like a ribbon. Which is actually
is the character you will get when you hit 'z'.
    Regression:
Not only the y is switched with the z. All other keys are mapped like an
    english keyboard layout.
It happens whenever you change to Hanin input with YiTian keyboard layout.
    This happens here on a
    MacBook C2D 2.0 GHz (white)
    1 GB RAM
    80 GB
    Mac OS X 10.4.8
This does not happen on a
    15" PowerBook G4 1.67 Ghz
    Mac OS X 10.4.8 / Build 8L2127
This also does not happen on a
    17" iMac C2D 2 GHz
    Mac OS X 10.4.8 / Build 8L127
    Notes:
I tried a SMC reset and reinstalled Mac OS X 10.4.8 on the MacBook but I still get the wrong output. The keyboard behaves like a english keyboard
when you choose Hanin with YiTian layout and only on this MacBook. I
couldn't try on other MacBooks. The problem remains if I use a german USB Apple Keyboard.
    Update:
    I now tested it on:
another MacBook 2.0 GHz C2D (white)
    MacBook 1,83 GHz C2D
    MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz C2D
    all with german keyboard,
    all have the same "bug"
    PB G4, MacBook C2D, iMac C2D   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Maybe its a secret concept of first Aluminium MacBook? Ha?

  • Installing Win7 in bootcamp on Maverick stalled at Keyboard  type

Ive  just  bought win7 64 bit  cos  my NEW iMac  wouldnt  install the 32 bit  version  and during the installation, windows sticks at select  keyboard type.. no Mouse action at all nor  does KB  allow input.
Ive gone back and used an older  mouse that works fine with  iMac and maverick but same issues with entering ( or rather not entering ) KB  type. during win 7  installation
    Any ideas?

So.. I removed Windows  vi abootcamp and re did the process again  and all is well.... so  far. . I am 44%  thru the Wininstallation.  I have no idea what caused the   issue to start . I DONT  like things that  go  wrong and then  mysteriously   cure themselves.

  • "Change Keyboard Type" dosen't show in Keyboard Preferences

I am using Logitech wireless solar keyboard.  But today my iMac doesn't recognize the keyboard. I tried it with another iMac, and it worked.  So I tried to reset and paired the keyboard with the first iMac.  But one thing I noticed was that in this iMac, the "Change Keyboard Type" in Keyboard Preferences is not showing.  The OS I am using is the most recent, and the same with the other iMac.  In fact, this iMac is newer than the second one.  Can anyone help me solve this problem?  Right now I am typing with Apple wireless keyboard.  Thank you in advance.

Thanks for your suggestions but they haven't solved the problem for the iMac. Right now we are using a work-around by having students type their text in Text Edit and then paste it into FCP. This is very strange. As I said before the keyboard works in all other applications, is set to US standard layout and allows certain key commands like copy, cut and paste. We've tried deleting and reinstalling FCP with a shutdown in between and the problem persists. Has anyone else heard of this happening to another Mac? Thanks.

    HellO:
I would not waste time trying to troubleshoot the problem.  Since it is new, call Applecare with a warranty problem.  I had a similar problem with a new KB some time ago and it was replaced at no cost (shipping included).

  • I have just bought a MacBook Air in Madrid, but the keyboard types ç when I hit -, for example, when I hit shift for the bracket sign I get *. How can I re-set it to type what I see on the keys.

I have just bought a MacBook Air in Madrid, but the keyboard types, for example, ¿ when I hit shift and the semi-colon key, and = when I hit the ! key. What do I have to do to reset it to function normally?

    Go>Preferences>Language & Text>Input Sources
Click off the flags of the countries you want--like if you need a British keyboard that has a British pound symbol, pick that one.
When you're done picking, them leave preferences. Now, in the upper right-hand corner of your computer, next to the date, you'll see a little flag. Click on that. You'll see all the flags you picked. Choose the one you want. Your keyboard will now give you the symbols, letters, etc. that you would get if you'd bought the computer in that country.

  • Setting keyboard type.

im just wondering why i cant change my keyboard type under systems preferences keyboard.
when i open the configurator and click on the next key beside the right shift which is z the configurator cant seem to recognize it.
    can somebody help

It is not clear what you are trying to do to me, Kilopopo.
Firstly, when you say "the next key beside the right shift which is z" do you really mean "the next key beside the left shift which is z"?
Do you mean that, in System preferences / Keyboard / Keyboard Shortcuts, you can't set the z key in combination one of the "modifier" keys (command, option, control) to perform a particular type of action in a particular applications or situations?
Or do you mean something else altogether?
If you spell out the steps you are following and the result you want to achieve in more detail it will be much easier to help you.
    Cheers
