LXDM start on wrong monitor

I have Arch Linux on my laptop, and I have a LCD connected to such laptop.
99% of the time, LCD is not used (i.e., it's used, but as TV, not connected to the laptop), so that I work only on laptop's monitor.
The problem is that LXDM always appears on the LCD, and this is a problem: laptop's monitor remain black, while LCD is either turned off or set to TV (so that I have to change source on LCD, logging in, then rechange the source of LCD).
This is annoying.
Why LXDM want to start on LCD?
I set correctly my xorg.conf, enabling only one monitor: in fact, after login everything works fine.
Also, every further login/logout works fine: LXDM starts on laptop's monitor.
Is only the very first (i.e., after reboot) login starts on LCD and it's making me crazy.
How can I force LXDM to IGNORE the connected LCD?

My first thought is that LXDM has a configuration that makes it do that out of convienance, for example if you smashed your laptop's screen and wanted to use it, you would want that to happen, correct? You could try browsing it's configuration files, or do a bit of googling on it.
Well enough of my ranting. My first thought would be to disable automatic detection of external monitors, then have your DE start the external monitor.

  • Photoshop CS5 still chooses wrong monitor profile in dual monitor case?

The folk lore has it that if you go to EDIT/COLOR SETTINGS and open the Working Spaces RGB drop down, then what it says near the top on the "Monitor RGB" line is the monitor profile that photoshop is actually using.
If that is true, then I would expect that if I run photoshop on my monitor 1 it would show the profile of monitor 1, and if I run PS on monitor 2 it would show the profile of monitor 2. But in fact, it always shows the profile of monitor 1. Naturally, this creates anxiety that PS is using the wrong profile to display my images, since I normally run with the image on monitor 2.
My setup: Windows 7 64-bit, PS 12.0.1 x64. Matrox M9120 graphics card driving two monitors. Windows CONTROL PANEL/COLOR MANAGEMENT shows a different profile active on each monitor.
(By running photoshop on a particular monitor, I mean I run photoshop, drag it in non-full screen mode to the desired monitor, and close it. Then I run it again and it starts on that monitor (including the splash screen).)

Emil, Sorry, I disagree. It relates entirely to how Photoshop handles profiles, not how the operating system does.
Windows operating system doesn't handle color profiles at all, but it provides all programs that do with the same way to handle them. If you have the color profiles of your monitors installed properly in the system, they will be equally available to all programs. If a program can use properly one color profile for one monitor it will do the same with more.
    PeterFacey wrote:
I also have CorelDraw which is a colour managed application. If I set that straddling two monitors, do you think it will use the appropriate monitor profile for each half? I don't know, ...
I don't have CorelDraw and don't know if it is color managed, but if it is and if the color management on your system is working properly it should give you the same result as Photoshop. Just go ahead and check it - open the same image in Photoshop and in CorelDraw and make a screen capture then measure the RGB values in Photoshop or any program that displays the RGB numbers of colors. But have in mind that a screen capture from multiple monitors that share the desktop will capture the entire shared desktop on one image (if monitors are different sizes it will leave blank areas around the smaller one depending on the alignment), but the same colors will be the same on the entire screen capture using the effect from the color profile only of your main monitor. So if you want to measure how the other monitor displays the RGB color values of the same color, you have to change it  to your main monitor in your system in order to have the screen capture with the effect of that monitor's color profile.
On my computer using Windows 7, all color managed programs show the same colors on one or more monitors. Along with the color managed programs from Adobe like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and AfterEffects, the other color managed programs like Windows Explorer, Windows Media Player, Firefox, QuickTime, etc also show the same RGB values of a color from each program on a certain monitor.
Basically, if the color management is working properly, the same color displayed from all color managed programs should look the same or as close as possible on each monitor, but when you capture the screen and measure the RGB values they should be different on each monitor unless the monitors are physically identical which is unreal.

If you open the recovery drive (partition) it should only have a single folder (Recovery).
To make sure that your not saving restore points to that drive.
    See:

  • Pages always opens a new window on the wrong monitor

Is there anyway to fix this I don't understand why always open on the wrong monitor I can't seem to open on the correct one

    OS X 10.8.4:
Drag the window back to the correct monitor and position it where you want it to open. Make certain that you actively save and close your documents before quitting Pages.
In System Preferences > General, check the box adjacent to Close windows when quitting an application.
Your Shutdown, Restart, and Logout dialogs should have the “Reopen windows when logging back in” unchecked.
If this does not correct the problem, select all contents (command+A) of the following folder only, and then use the right button to select the menu item, “Move to Trash.”
    /Users/yourlogin-name/Library/Caches/
Also, drag the following file to the Trash as well:
    /Users/yourlogin-name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
Empty the Trash. (You may have to reboot to fully empty the Trash.)
The next time you launch Pages, the application window will open where you want it.

  • While typing keyboard starts typing wrong letters

I have checked my settings for my keyboard and have changed keyboards. I can open Pagemaker 7 & start typing, all's well. Then after a while it starts typing wrong letters & I can't use my short cuts. I also tryed reloading Pagemaker 7. I have run Malwarebytes, AVG, & Spybot. I can't find anything. It is also doing the same thing In Photoshop. It doesn't do it in any other programs besides Adobe.

I thought it was setup Default input language as English (United States).I checked and there was 2 other settings under keyboard besides US. United states-Dvorak and United States international. So I removed them. Also under Advanced Key Settings and Hot keys for imput languages - Switch between input languages was set up to work. I changed this to none. So far it has worked fine. Today is my long day at work so we'll see. Do you think that was it? How would that have gotten changed? I have done some windows updates recently that caused me problems with my display.

  • Resume on wrong monitor

Can anyone tell me why my iMac (mid-2010, 21.5, 500GB disk, 4GB RAM, radeon 4670 video), running Arch (xfce), always starts on the main monitor (with external monitor connected, but not switched on) but then sleeps, and resumes only on my external monitor (seen after I switch it on). The same happens with ubuntu and manjaro (in KDE), but not OSX.
I reckon the video card connectors are cross-connected and the radeon kernel driver chooses the wrong one on resume. But why choose the right one at boot?

Unlock it and drag it to any side, top or bottom of whatever monitor you wish.

  • OEPE causes Eclipse Kepler to start with wrong workspace, overrides Eclipse's workspace configuration

I'm a new OEPE user, and found that after installing it, Eclipse (Kepler) now starts up with the wrong workspace every time. I have to explicitly do File > Switch Workspace... to get Eclipse to restart with the correct workspace. Also, the workspace I want to use is the only one listed in the Workspaces preferences panel (Window > Preferences > General > Startup and Shutdown > Workspaces). So I can't figure out why Eclipse is using the wrong workspace, and why it's even finding this wrong one.
I found that many other users of OEPE with Kepler are having this same problem:
Eclipse Community Forums: Eclipse Platform » Kepler: On start up, I no longer get prompted for workspace locat…
And this sounds curiously like this old problem reported right here on the OTN Community site:
    https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2191740
Any suggestions for how to get around this? I assume this is a bug, but don't know the correct process for reporting OEPE bugs.

    Hi.
I suspect that some action by the OEPE code somehow modifies the OSGi Cache so that it no longer asks you what workspace you'd like to use (and forces usage of the workspace in top user directory.)  I found that if you put in "-clean" in your eclipse.ini, then you get asked what workspace you'd like to use.  This flag clears out the OSGi cache (hence my theory that it is this cache that is messed up)
That said, there are arguments for not doing this all the time.  See this discussion: java - How to run eclipse in clean mode? and what happens if we do so? - Stack Overflow
Finally, I suspect you have another workspace on your system now.  Presuming you are on a PC, go to your user dir - I'd wager there is a "workspace" dir there now.  That is where OEPE wants to work.
    Good Luck!
OEPE should be able to work with any workspace; it has in the past!  If a specific workspace is required with this release, that is a step backward in my opinion.  That said, if that is the direction of the product, so be it.  I find it hard to believe that is the direction of the product, however!

  • Wrong Monitor Profile used by PS CS5

Running Windows 7 Professional, Photoshop CS5.
I have a laptop and an external monitor, identified by Windows as Display 1 and Display 2, respectively. The latter is usually off, unless I'm going to do some photo editting, etc, so my Windows Display Settings normally say "Show desktop only on 1" - i.e. Laptop only.
Firstly, it may be useful to point out that Windows Color Management identifies the monitors in reverse, showing laptop as Display 2 and external as Display 1.
I do occasionally fire up PS while "Show desktop only on 1" (i.e. laptop only) is in effect, just to have a quick look at something, and under these conditions PS shows the external monitor's Default Profile as the Monitor RGB Profile. This is plainly wrong. I get the same problem with IrfanView when its Color Management is on - it also uses the external monitor's profile. IV author informs me that this is the profile name returned by Windows.
Apparently, when an application asks Windows for the relevant profile name, Windows is returning the wrong profile. This problem does not exist when running in Extended mode or with the external monitor only (i.e. "Show desktop only on 2").
Am I alone in seeing this particular behaviour? I can't help but suspect that the reversing of the Monitor IDs by Windows CM is a factor here.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have to agree with you; getting the correct monitor identification squared away is foremost.  Then we'll worry about subsequent issues if any remain.
What video "card" model does your system have?
I ask because there are usually functions in the video drivers for identifying the monitors and assigning them numbers, for example via the following screen in the ATI Catalyst control panel:

  • I have two monitors on my Mac. Running FF3.6.16 new windows now want to open on the wrong monitor. How do I get FF to open on the main display?

I have an eMac with a second display. I am running OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger) and Firefox 3.6.16. Everything was working fine until the other day I opened a second window in Firefox and dragged it to my secnd monitor. I later closed it. Since then all New Window requests, including when starting Firefox always open on the second monitor. How do I tell Firefox I want my main monitor has the primary monitor?

It has nothing to do with the Mac, but more with the software exporting the displays on the PC.  A typical VNC server will generally only export the primary monitor.
What PC software are you using to export the display(s), and what Mac software are you using to view the PC displays?  That may help someone come up with a workable solution for you (or not ).

  • Camera Raw window appears in wrong monitor

About a week ago, the camera raw window started appearing in the secondary monitor of my pair and I cannot stop it from starting there. It appears with the title bar up off the top of the screen and I can just barely grab the top corner of it from the edge of the primary monitor and drag it out where I can move it.
Prior to this, if I opened a raw file directly into CS3, it would start in the primary where CS3 is placed or if I right clicked a raw file in Bridge and chose open in CR, then it would open in the secondary monitor where Bridge is located. Now I don't get the choice. This was happening before the latest updates which all appear okay. System is a PC by the way.
    I would appreciate any assistance.

  • Grub/boot using wrong monitor (dual-head setup)?

I have a dual monitor set up, using two dvi slots on my radeon HD card.
When I start up my system, regardless of the order of the cables, it first shows my bios slash screen on both monitors, then it goes to Grub2 and I see "Loading Grub.." on both monitors.  After that, it always defaults to displaying on my "secondary" monitor, which I do not use very often.  Meanwhile my primary monitor goes black until my system reaches the SLIM login.
Is there any way to define which monitor is to be used in Grub2 and during booting?
I'm thinking it the default display may be configured in the /etc/grub.d/00_header file but I have no idea how to edit that.
As I said, I tried switching the cables and also checked the bios and didn't see any settings regarding this.

  • Login screen appears on wrong monitor

This problem started when I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite 10.10.2. It persists on 10.10.3
I have two monitors; the main one is 26", the other is 17". Both are NEC. The main monitor connects with a DVI-to-Mini display port adapter. The 2nd with a VGA to DVI adapter. Video card is the stock AMD 5770 with one DVI two mini display port connectors.
On startup, the Apple logo appears on my main monitor, as expected. Then the login screen comes up on the 2nd monitor. Once I'm logged in, the main monitor becomes the primary display again (according to my user account display preferences).
I've checked all the preferences, reset the NVram and the SMC, and tried plugging the the main monitor into the other display port. Nothing changes this.
It's not a big problem, but it's annoying.
    Any thoughts?

You can change the arrangement of the displays, and assign a primary one in the Displays system preferences (done by dragging the menu bar to the preferred primary display). However, this will not change what display is identified first by your hardware. If you have FileVault enabled, then the login screen you see will be loaded before the operating system is loaded. This login screen simply mimics the OS X login screen, but is in fact stored elsewhere on your disk and used to unlock it. As a result, this login screen will be shown on the display that is identified as the primary one in hardware, and then when OS X loads this may switch depending on your settings in the Displays preferences. Your options here are to either move your monitors on your desk, swap their connections to your Mac, or adjust the primary one along with the arrangement of them in the Displays system preferences (or a combination of these three) to find a setup that works as you want.
    1. When you initially boot and see the login screen, note the connection of this monitor to your Mac. This port is the primary one.
    2. Connect this port to the display you want to be the primary one (to show your login window, etc.)
    3. Once booted to OS X, go to the displays system preferences and ensure the menu bar icon is dragged to this monitor so OS X identifies it as the primary one.
    4. Adjust your display's arrangement accordingly in these system preferences.
