Lying Battery Meter...any suggestions?

Hi,
I have a silver 2nd Gen iPod mini, 8 months old. Its battery meter lies to me. For example, once, it said that it was almost full; but it died after 10 minutes of usage, and when I turned it on, the battery icon came up and the screen read "please connnect iPod to power." how would I solve this problem? any suggestions welcome
thanks

oh..ic..
but is the latest updaters reliable? because I've came across many posts where owners of all iPods were outraged by the new updater...I personally had some trouble with it too, but I got it all sorted out.
By the way, this lying meter has been doing this since when I got it (I'm sure) but I've only started paying attention in the past 4 months. I've done several updates to the iPod since when I got it, and its still lying...but I'll try the latest updater again.
thanks

    Hi,
    Try resetting your iPod:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430.
If that doesn't work, try restoring it:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414.
If all else fails, you will have to place your iPod in Recovery Mode:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.
    Hope this helps!

Make sure your headphone plug is pushed all the way into the connecton until no silver is showing.  You will hear a click and feel it snap all the way in.

Hi azuzeno, welcome to the forums and happy holidays,
    About Batteries. http://www.apple.com/batteries/
    From //www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
"Battery Lifespan For Apple notebooks with removable batteries — such as previous generation MacBook and MacBook Pro computers — a properly maintained battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 300 full charge and discharge cycles. You may choose to replace your battery when it no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs.
Your battery info state "Cycle count: 262" So your pretty close to the 300 cycle limit. Just like an older car, old batteries can behave erratically. It's time to buy a new battery.
You could also book an appointment for the Genius Bar. http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ They may be able to save you a few dollars.

  • My ipod classic (bought in 2007) only has about an hour's worth of battery.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

My Ipod classic, bought in 2007, has only an hour's worth of battery life after a full charge.  Any suggestions or solutions?  Thanks, Threeholesinone

Batteries tend to start losing their ability to retain a charge at full capacity over time.  So what you are experiencing is completely normal.

  • New operating system is burning up my battery life -- any suggestions!?

New 7.0.3 operating system seems to be burning up my battery.  My 4s i-phone doesn't hold the charge at all now and this started when I installed the new OS.  Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions how to get my battery efficiency back -- at least until I can turn in my 4s for a 5c in March 2014.

let your battery completely die out to where your phone shuts off, and then charge it fully without using it.

  • Battery drain - any suggestions?

I've had my 3G for about a year, and I've noticed lately the battery has been terrible. I have wi-fi and blutooth off, push is on, set to fetch every 15 minutes. Even when its sleeping it drains, which it never used to do. The standby time used to be fantastic. I do a hard shutdown (holding the sleep and home until apple logo appears) every other day. the talk time is barely an hour. Do you guys have any other suggestions that I can try? I'm trying to hold out until January for an iPhone 4, when my contract is elIgible for a full upgrade, but this is getting ridiculous. Thanks!

    Two suggestions:
Do you have an exchange account on your phone? If yes, delete it and set it up again
Do have Wi-Fi activated? If yes, remember that in iOS4 Wi-Fi stays on even in sleep mode, which will drain your battery as well.
If this does not help, try to restore "as new iphone" and don't use the last backup to restore, set it up again manually. This is what I did with my 3G and I can't find any difference to 3.1.3 concerning battery life

Open SystemInformation  (in Utilities), click 'Power' in the left Navigation panel, then at the right make a screenshot of the whole part called 'Battery Information:'  and post it here, please.
I would avoid the use of DiskWarrior, at least for now.
You may also start DiskUtility and do the 'verify disk', the message at the end of the verify should end with the word 'OK'.

  • MY PHONE SHUT OFF AND WONT TURN ON. I HAD A FULL BATTERY. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I WAS UPLOADING A VIDEO. ALL OF A SUDDEN MY PHONE SHUT OFF AND NOW IT WONT TURN ON. I TRIED TO PLUG IT IN AND THAT DIDNT WORK.

It could just be the power. Apple says you should completely drain the battery and completely recharge it at least once a month. When completely drained, as they say, it takes a bit after being plugged in again for the iPhone to start responding again.

  • I have a 5 month old Magic Mouse and I want to replace the batteries for the first time but the battery door will not release any suggestions?

The battery compartment door on my Magic Mouse appears to be jammed shut and will not open, the device is only 5 months old and this is the first time I have needed to open it to change the batteries. Are there any suggestions?

It could be you are approaching it incorrectly.   It can be a tricky little gadget that actually works with minimal pressure.
Try turning over the mouse so the compartment panel faces you, optical sensor topmost.  Then holding the mouse at each side but not on the panel itself, flick the small, black rectangular panel downwards.   The top of the panel should spring out, though it may require you to manipulate it fully away from the mouse.
Once you have replaced the batteries, starting at the bottom reverse the procedure then clip into place.   Remember to move the small switch next to the optical sensor upwards which should turn on the green light.   Then click twice to connect.

  • The battery for my macbook pro 13 says "service battery".  Now I want to get a replacement but the reviews for it are horrible! Does anybody have any suggestions?

The battery for my macbook pro 13 says "service battery".  Now I want to get a replacement but the reviews for it are horrible! Does anybody have any suggestions? I don't want to spend 130 dollars on something I'm going to have to replace in less than a year (which is what normally I been reading)  I do design work and I take my mac everywhere.  Having to always look for a plug or having to be constantly plugged in doesn't sound ideal to me.  Please help me. what should I do???

Why does it matter if it a scam????? I'll let you figure that out by yourself.  If I'm going to replace it, why should I be contempt with a battery that I have to replace within months (as stated by some people in the comments). The issue here is not if I should or not replace it OBVIOUSLY I'm going to have to before it starts going crazy.  The underlying issue is why is the replacement battery for a lack of better words " a bit crap."  It comes with a 3 month guarantee?? Is that a joke?!??!?! Some people complained it malfunction after only 8- 9 months? I'm sorry but as an Apple fan I think it's absolutely rubbish. I know there is no magic cure I'm just hoping someone shines the light on how crappy this replacement is.

  • My IPad screen is dark and will not turn on. I have charged the battery and nothing. I have tried to reset the device as well with no luck. Any suggestions?

My IPad screen is dark and will not turn on. I have charged the battery and no luck. I have tried to restart it multiple times with no luck. During the restart, the screen will flicker like it is trying to restart but the silver apple never shows. Any suggestions?

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has never been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

Copy the iTunes folder from the disk to the Mac, and the iPhone backup to the right place on the Mac (Google for "iphone backup location"). Then when you restore you can reload the last backup.

  • New ipod, battery wont charge - any suggestions?

I have had my ipod for less than 6 months and the battery charged without issue using any sort of charging station but it stopped charging a few days ago. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
