Lync 2010 server and UM role on different domains in different forests

Hello
I have a Lync 2010 environment running on domain A, with exchange 2010 UM also running in Domain A.  We are in the process of migrating users and mailboxes from domain A to domain B.  Once we reach our enterprise voice users with exchange UM enabled
we will need to install the exchange UM role on the exchange server in Domain B.
There is a 2-way trust relationship between domain A and domain B.
All the users from are running Lync on a PC located in Domain B, using Lync credentials from Domain A.
Are there any issues running Lync 2010 and Exchange UM from different domains in different forests?  Is it as simple as creating a new UM DialPlan and UM IP Gateway to the domain A Lync FQDN?
Thanks

Hi,
Each UM forest must be configured to trust the forest in which Lync Server is deployed, and the forest in which Lync Server 2013 is deployed must be configured to trust each UM forest. If Exchange UM is installed in multiple forests, the Exchange
Server integration steps must be performed for each UM forest or you’ll have to specify the Lync Server domain.
Here is a link about for UM of Lync server 2013 but similar for Lync server 2010:

  • Lync 2010 Server - Tracking Lync Login Sessions Related to MaxEndpointsPerUser and its threshold

    Hello All,
I am having a few users who get the message from their Lync 2010 & 2013 client (on Lync 2010 Server) stating:
"Please sign out at another location and try again. You have reached the maximum number of computers or devices allowed."
I confirmed with the users they are using only one client.
Is there a way to view all endpoints logged in per user? I understand increasing the value for "MaxEndpointsPerUser" may solve our problem but it will not fix the multiple unknown endpoint logins per user Lync seems to detect.
    Here's my configuration:
    Get-CsRegistrarConfiguration
    Identity                  : Global
    MinEndpointExpiration     : 300
    MaxEndpointExpiration     : 900
    DefaultEndpointExpiration : 600
    MaxEndpointsPerUser       : 8
    EnableDHCPServer          : False
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Uninstall Legacy Lync 2010 enterprise and install Lync 2013

I have a customer who has Lync 2010 enterprise and decided to install Lync 2013 but don't want migration and instead want to uninstall Lync 2010 . I would like to know in this case how to clean the active directory schema from Lync 2010 ?
and If there's anything else to consider before uninstalling Lync 2010 ? I will have to disable/remove all currently Lync enabled users but is there anything else?
I found this article, but would like to know what's the steps in sequence of removing Lync in this case?
     https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/9849.how-to-remove-lync-server-2010-from-active-directory.aspx
for example, do I have to first
    1- Disable LYnc users.
2- Uninstall Lync server Application from Control panel
3- Remove Lync from Active Directory?
    Would appreciate your help. thanks

  • Lync 2013 client still show titles that is turned off on Lync 2010 server

    Hi All
I have another unique issue it seems.
Environment - Lync Server 2010 on CU5. Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 client.
The client has used absconfig and removed the titles as the don't want that to be displayed.
The lync 2010 clients does not show the titles - so that is working.
Lync 2013 from external access the titles does not show - so that is working.
Internally on the LAN the Job Titles shows on the Lync 2013 client - so not working.
What I've tried so far :
Disabled exchange contact sync on a client policy
Used webdownload only for address book.
Using registry to force download of address book.
Deleted the Lync folder on the client computer to make sure when it downloads the .idx and .db file that it is the latest version.
None of the above remediations seems to have any impact on the lync 2013 client.
I have tried to replicate this in my lab (without an exchange server) and the the lycn 2010 and 2013 clients behave as they should be not displaying the job titles.
Having anyone come across this before?
I will be patching the lync 2010 server to the latest CU update, but I think the issue is somewhere else.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Regards
    Danie

    Hi Danie,
I suggest you could install the latest CU update first, because the CU update would fix many problems.
In addition, shall we test Lync 2013 on a fresh computer without Outlook?(You could test this using Lync 2013 Basic).
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Cannot share desktop - Lync 2013 server and Windows 8 (64-bit) client

Currently my new Lync server cannot share a desktop through a Lync 2013 client installed on a Windows 8 workstation. The client is patched up with the latest MS patches (much beyond the patch issues noted about a year ago, the patches in question do not
    even show up as installed).
I get the same "An error occurred during the screen presentation" message. I do have a NVIDIA video cards on the workstations, but they too are patched up. The same systems have no issues sharing desktop screens in the Lync 2013 client on Windows
8 systems when they are connected to a Lync 2010 server.
I have no idea where to go from here. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Did this issue happen to other Lync 2013 client?
As you mentioned that you can used the same Lync 2013 to sharing desktop screen when it connects Lync Server 2010 while you couldn’t share desktop screen when it connects to Lync Server 2013,
I think it is related with Lync Server.
Please check if you can find any errors on Lync Front End Server.
Check all Lync server services are all started.

  • Lync 2010 client and Office 2013

I have Office 2013 installed minus Lync 2013 and have Lync 2010 installed in its place, we have a Lync 2010 infrastructure and are planning on upgrading our customers’s workstations to office 2013 and maintaining the Lync 2010
    clients.
Is it expected behavior in this scenario to get prompted with the “Join the meeting using your web browser”, “Download and install Lync Attendee” & “Use Communicator” page when attpempting to join a meeting?
    Thanks….

    Thanks for the reply.
The reason that we though to stay with the Lync 2010 client is that we were told that the Lync 2013 client only communicates to the Lync 2010 back-end via the Lync Edge servers. In looking at the Lync 2013 client configuration
information I see that Inside User Status: True which looks like it might not be communicating via the Edge servers.
Is this a valid reason not to push forward with Lync 2013 client while still having Lync 2010 back-end?
    Thanks…

  • Send email to different domain using different address

    hi
I want to set my exchange recipients have 2 email address.
    1=[email protected] 2=[email protected]
1.how can I set this setting? (I know I can use something called policy but I don't know how can use that for exchange 2013; please tell me how can do this)
2.how can set my exchange server to send email to different domain with different account? (after question 1; my recipients has 2 email address (***@domain.com,
***@domain.co) I want my recipients when send email to "company.com" using domain.com address and for other domains using domain.co)
    thanks

    1.  Add an accepted domain.  Add the e-mail address to your e-mail address policy.  Update the e-mail address policy.
    2.  http://www.ivasoft.biz/choosefrom2007.shtml  This has been the traditional answer for Exchange 2010 and earlier.  You might contact him to see if it works for Exchange 2013.
I don't know of a native way to do this except to create separate mailboxes for each address.

  • Exchange 2010 Migration - Decommissioning Multi Role Server and Splitting Roles to 2 new servers - Certificate Query

    Hi,
I have been tasked with decommissioning our single Multi Role Server (CAS/HT/MB) and assigning the roles to 2 new servers. 1 server will be dedicated to CAS and the other new server will be dedicated to HT & MB roles.
I think I'm OK with the moving of HT and MB roles from our current server to the new HT/MB server by following "Ed Crowley's Method for Moving Exchange Servers", my focus is on the migration of the CAS role from the current to the new server as
this one has the potential to kill our mail flow if I don't move the role correctly.
The actual introduction of the new CAS server is fairly straight forward but the moving of the certificate is where I need some clarification.
Our current multi role server has a 3rd Party Certificate with the following information:
    Subject: OWA.DOMAIN.COM.AU
    SANs: internalservername.domain.local
              autodiscover.domain.com.au
The issue here is the SAN entry "internalservername.domain.local" which will need to be removed in order for the certificate to be used on the new CAS server, firstly because the CAS server has a different name and secondly the internal FQDN will
no longer be allowed to be used from 2015 onwards. So I will need to revoke this certificate and issue a new certificate with our vendor who is Thawte.
This presents me with an opportunity to simplify our certificate and make changes to the URLs using a new certificate name, so I have proposed the following:
    New Certificate:
    Subject: mail.domain.com.au
    SANs: autodiscover.domain.com.au
              OWA.DOMAIN.COM.AU
I would then configure the URLs using PowerShell:
    Set-ClientAccessServer -Identity NEWCASNAME-AutodiscoverServiceInternalUrl https://mail.domain.com.au/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
    Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity " NEWCASNAME\EWS (Default Web Site)" -InternalUrl https://mail.domain.com.au/ews/exchange.asmx
    Set-OABVirtualDirectory -Identity " NEWCASNAME\oab (Default Web Site)" -InternalUrl https://mail.domain.com.au/oab
    Set-OWAVirtualDirectory -Identity " NEWCASNAME\owa (Default Web Site)" -InternalUrl https://mail.domain.com.au/owa
I would also then set up split DNS on our internal DNS server creating a new zone called "mail.domain.com.au" and add an host A record with the internal IP address of the new CAS server.
Now I know I haven't asked a question yet and the only real question I have is to ask if this line of thinking and my theory is correct.
Have I missed anything or is there anything I should be wary of that has the potential to blow up in my face?
Thanks guys, I really appreciate any insights and input you have on this.

    Hi Ed,
Thanks for your reply, it all makes perfect sense I guess I was being optimistic by shutting down the old server and then resubscribing the edge and testing with mailboxes on the new mailbox server.
I will make sure to move all of the mailboxes over before removing the old server via "Add/Remove Programs". Will I have to move the arbitration mailboxes on the old server across to the new mailbox server? Will having the arbitration mailboxes
on the old server stop me from completely removing exchange?
Also, the InternalURL & ExternalURL properties are as follows:
    Autodiscover:
    New CAS - InternalURL: https://svwwmxcas01.pharmacare.local/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml
    Old CAS - InternalURL: https://svwwmx001.pharmacare.local/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
    WebServices:
    New CAS - InternalURL: https://svwwmxcas01.pharmacare.local/EWS/Exchange.asmx
    New CAS - ExternalURL: https://owa.pharmacare.com.au/EWS/Exchange.asmx
    Old CAS - InternalURL: https://svwwmx001.pharmacare.local/ews/exchange.asmx
    Old CAS - ExternalURL: https://owa.pharmacare.com.au/EWS/Exchange.asmx
    OAB:
    New CAS - InternalURL: http://svwwmxcas01.pharmacare.local/OAB
    New CAS - ExternalURL: https://owa.pharmacare.com.au/OAB
    Old CAS - InternalURL: https://svwwmx001.pharmacare.local/oab
    Old CAS - ExternalURL: https://owa.pharmacare.com.au/OAB
    OWA:
    New CAS - InternalURL: https://svwwmxcas01.pharmacare.local/owa
    New CAS - ExternalURL: https://owa.pharmacare.com.au/
    Old CAS - InternalURL: https://svwwmx001.pharmacare.local/owa
    Old CAS - ExternalURL: https://owa.pharmacare.com.au/
    ECP:
    New CAS - InternalURL: https://svwwmxcas01.pharmacare.local/ecp
    New CAS - ExternalURL: https://owa.pharmacare.com.au/ecp
    Old CAS - InternalURL: https://svwwmx001.pharmacare.local/ecp
    Old CAS - ExternalURL: https://owa.pharmacare.com.au/ecp
Our Public Certificate has the following details:
    Name: OWA.PHARMACARE.COM.AU
    SAN/s: autodiscover.pharmacare.com.au, svwwmx001.pharmacare.local
From your previous communications you mentioned that this certificate would not need to change, it could be exported from the old server and imported to the new which I have done. With the InternalURL & ExternalURL information that you see here can you
please confirm that your original recommendation of keeping our public certificate and importing it into the new CAS is correct? Will we forever get the certificate warning on all of our Outlook clients when we cut over from the old to the new until we get
a new certificate with the SAN of "svwwmx001.pharmacare.local" removed?
Also, I am toying with the idea of implementing a CAS Array as I thought that implementing the CAS Array would resolve some of the issues I was having on Saturday. I have followed the steps from this website, http://exchangeserverpro.com/how-to-install-an-exchange-server-2010-client-access-server-array/,
and I have got all the way to the step of creating the CAS array in the Exchange Powershell but I have not completed this step for fear of breaking connectivity to all of my Outlook Clients. By following all of the preceeding steps I have created a Windows
NLB with dedicated NICs on both the old CAS and the new CAS servers (with separate IP addresses on each NIC and a new internal IP address for the dedicated CAS array) and given it the name of "casarray.pharmacare.local" as per the instructions on
the website, the questions I have on adding the CAS array are:
    1. Do you recommend adding the CAS array using this configuration?
    2. Will this break Outlook connectivity alltogether?
    3. Will I have to generate a new Public Certificate with an external FQDN of "casarray.pharmacare.com.au" pointing back to a public IP or is it not required?
    4. If this configuration is correct, and I add the CAS Array as configured, when the time comes to remove the old server is it just as simple as removing the NLB member in the array and everything works smoothly?
So, with all of the information at hand my steps for complete and successful migration would be as follows:
    1. Move all mailboxes from old server to new server;
    2. Move arbitration mailboxes if required;
    3. Implement CAS Array and ensure that all Outlook clients connect successfully;
    4. Remove old server;
    5. Shut down old server;
    6. Re-subscribe Edge from new Hub Transport server;
    7. Test internal & external comms;
We also have internal DNS entries that would need changing:
    1. We have split DNS with a FLZ of "owa.pharmacare.com.au" that has a Host A record going to the old server, this would need changing from "svwwmx001.pharmacare.local" to "svwwmxcas01.pharmacare.local";
    2. The _autodiscover entry that sits under _TCP currently has the IP address of the old server, this would need to be changed to the IP address of the new CAS;
    3. The CNAME that sits in our FLZ for "pharmacare.local" would need to be changed from "svwwmx001.pharmacare.local" to "svwwmxcas01.pharmacare.local".
    4. Or rather than using the FQDN of the server where applicable in the DNS changes would I be using the FQDN of the CAS Array instead? Please confirm.
Would you agree that the migration path and DNS change plan is correct?
Sorry for the long post, I just need to make sure that everything goes right and I don't have egg on my face. I appreciate your help and input.
    Thanks again.
    Regards,
    Jamie

  • Lync 2010 Edge and TMG

I have an issue where a large group of users (about 2k) have been 'migrated' into my environment without first migrating their accounts in AD.  Basically, accounts were created internally and they are just connecting to my Lync 2010 and Exchange 2010
    environment through the internet.
Problem is, when they leave their current network, they hit my TMG 2010 servers from a single IP address.  This triggered TMGs Flood Mitigation settings and their IP was blocked.  I fixed this by creating an exception for their IP address
and bumping up the number of allowed tcp and http connections per minute.
Now, we are still having issues with users that attempt desktop and application sharing.  Their sessions close sporadically.
My primary question is, has anyone ever attempted this type of solution before, allowing thousands of users external access from a single IP address through TMG and Lync Edge?  If so is it supported and what type of issues might I need to look
for?    Does the Edge role also have restrictions on how many connections can be made by a single IP address from the internet?

    Hi Ray,
I'm pretty sure TMG is generally not the external endpoint publishing the AV/Sharing capabilities unless it is drastically different in your environment (or if TMG is your outer most firewall)
Usual setup for reverse proxy is :
    Firewall1 (outer most) <---> DMZ <----> Firewall2 (TMG?) ---> Corp
    Firewall 2 publishes web services.
    Edge usually looks like:
    Firewall1 (outer most) <---> DMZ <----> Edge Access/AV/WebConf ---> Corp
Can you confirm if TMG is your outer-most firewall? If it is then check if your edge has one or multiple IPs. Then check the publishing for those IPs and make sure they adhere to the exception you created. In addition, check the Firewall on the edge server
    itself.
If TMG is not your outer-most firewall (if Firewall1 is some other device) then please check the intrusion protection on the Firewall1 device and allow for exception in there as well.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Max

  • Lync 2010 server status shows "Retrieving" in Control Panel

When I open Control Panel on my Lync 2013 FE server, all my 2013 FE servers show a status of normal and a green check mark under replication. For my legacy 2010 server, the status just says Retrieving. Replication with the 2010 is OK. Is this normal? Not
a big deal because we will be decommissioning the 2010 anyway. I don't see any errors in the Lync server log for the 2010.
One thing that is strange though with the 2010 server is I can run setup, Step 2 (Bootstrapper) and it runs fine. Puts a green check mark and says Complete. If I exit and re-run setup, it looks like Step 2 wants to be run again. the green check mark goes
away. CMS has been moved to 2013 about a month ago and everything is fine. Only reason I am keeping the 2010 around is because we are still using the 2010 Edge. Edge is pointing to 2013 FE so I think the 2010 FE is out of the picture completely (no users on
it)  but I wanted to keep it around until we stand up a 2013 Edge. 2010 FE is current with cumulative updates.
From the Lync 2010 side, when I open Control Panel, everything looks good. All servers come up green with no issues. Looks like its just the 2013 FE trying to retrieve info from 2010.

    Hi Shadowtuck,
the retrieving status you see via the Lync Server 2013 control panel for the Lync Server 2010 front end is normal behaviour
and nothing to be concerenced about, as is the the green tick not showing for step two in the deployment wizard. I have seen this behaviour in all Lync Server 2010 to Lync Server 2013 migrations I have performed for customers. Thanks.

  • Replication issue between lync 2010 FE and lync 2013 FE

    Hello
I face any issue in my lync server's .
I was in the last steps in the migration process from lync 2010 to 2013 enterprise edition .
where CMS was moved already to 2013 , and later on many time I checked the replication and it was fine , then I deleted the CMS DB FROM 2010 FE and I checked the replication and it was fine .
later on I proceed to delete the archiving server and monitoring server and it was fine .
    later on I proceed to
    Reset call admission control
    Prevent sessions for services
    Stop Lync Server 2010 services
Remove a Front End Server from a pool
I just I face this replication issue after I start the process to delete the lync 2010 pool which im stuck on it now .
one more thing while I was trying to delete the 2010 front end pool , I got the error .
Error: An error occurred: "System.InvalidOperationException" "Cannot publish topology changes. Conference directories still exist on a pool that would be deleted. Remove the conference directories before continuing."
so I moved the conference directories from 2010 pool to the 2013 pool successfully.
but later on when I check the replication I notice the replication issue ?

for edge server 2013 I shut down the server since there is another configuration issue there (so replication to edge server not the issue now since it is down).

is the replication issue affects my 2013 pool ?

    Hi,
From your description above, did you mean before deleting the Lync Server 2010 Pool from topology, you found the replication of Lync 2010 FE Server not update to date?
If it is the case, based on my knowledge, there is no affect for Lync Server 2013 Pool. Please double check if Lync Server 2013 Pool work normally, and Lync users in Lync 2013 Pool can use all Lync function without issues. Then you can delete Lync 2010 Pool
from Topology and publish it. After finish it, please re-run step 2 on Lync Server 2013 FE Servers.

  • [jsr82] can a j2me app be a Bluetooth server and client role in parallel?

I want to make my j2me app register a special service channel and listen to it, meanwhile, I also want to start a client to connect to other handset which has the same services. In Bluetooth protocol side, this is obviously OK, but in J2me is this design possible? some people said that in jsr82, the Bluetooth device is exclusive for J2me app, app cannot be both server role and client role at the same time. Can anybody give me a definite answer?

No this design is not possible with JSR 82. Because when the device acts as a server it can't be used as a client as whenever you will run the client code the server mode will disappear.
But what maximum you can do is when you need the client to run close the server and switch into the client mode but I think you don't need this solution.

  • Lync 2010 client and SRV record

When Lync 2010 was originally set up in our environment, we included our login domain which is a .local as a SIP domain but everyone uses our additional SIP domain which is a .org.
In our internal DNS, we have SRV records under both domains. Question is if a Lync 2010 client is doing autodiscover and their SIP domain is the .org, will the client look at the SRV record in the .local domain? I don't think this SRV record was ever used
even though its the users login domain, its not their SIP domain.

You're right, the SRV records that belongs to your .local domain are not used by the lync client for a user that hs a .org sip domain sign-in address, so as you are saying if all the users are configured with a .org sip domain that means these SRV records
were never used, and you can safely remove them.

  • Renew SSL Certificate for for two Exchange 2010 Server and the new rules.

I find DigitCert's website always helpful with cert questions. They've got a pretty helpful page here: https://www.digicert.com/internal-names.htmIt looks like they've got a tool for Exchange, but I've not used it myself, so can't say if it works or how well: https://www.digicert.com/internal-domain-name-tool.htmI bet Microsoft have something on their website too that helps with this sort of question.I'd say you register a completely new domain and use that for public facing and internal servers. Or you could just create a sub domain of an existing one, i.e. subdomain.mydomain.com and use that, i.e. public_exchange.subdomain.mydomain.com and internal_exchange.subdomain.mydomain.com.

    Hi there ,
My exchange 2010 Server Certificate is about to expire and i am going to renew it but according to the new rules for SSL Certificate Issuing we can not include our Local Servers Names and Local FQDN such as myserver.contoso.local, my issue is that i have 2 exchange servers one is internet-facing Server (where the certificate is initiated and installed) and one is non-internet-facing Exchange server.
if i am going to renew my certificate with public only name, I have to create a split Domain that reflects my external links to the internal Users, what shall i do for the non-internet-facing server? do i need to create another record in my split DNS Server and add it to my Certificate Request ?

  • Upgrading both SharePoint 2010 server and DB server with latest available patch

We have 2 servers in the farm ( SharePoint server and Database server)
We are planning to patch the database server and SharePoint server as well at the same time.
For this activity I have found some ways :
    Way 1:
First I will do the patching in SP server and run the configuration wizard.
Once it's finished , I will shutdown the SP server.
    Start patching in SQL server
After done in Sql server , I will restart the SP server.
    Way 2:
First I will do the patching in SP server and run the configuration wizard.
Once it's finished , I will disconnect the SP server from SQL server by using the configuration wizard.
    Start patching in SQL server
After done in Sql server , I will reconnect both the server's.
    Way 3:
I don't follow any one of the above ways. Simply patch both the server's one by one (Here might be, when we do the DB server patch upgrade database connection failed entries will be track into event viewer because of DB server unavailability )
    Here my questions are :
If disconnect the server's from each other , can I reestablish the connection again ?? Is there that option ???
Is it compulsory to disconnect / shutdown the SP server while patching in DB server ???????
Suppose I don't follow any of the above way , cause any issues ?????
If any DB connection related entries will track into Event Viewer, is this cause any issues ?????
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Patching order will not matter. You also do not necessarily have to shutdown SharePoint while patching SQL. Yes, SharePoint will throw errors in the Event Log and ULS log.
I might suggest patching SQL Server first, simply because it is quick and in my experience, "safe". That is, the patching process works and works well. It is unlikely you'll come out with an unserviceable SQL Server instance.
