Lync 2010 with Linux machines

how can we use Lync 2010 in Linux machines..? do we have any third party applications which can support Voice and Video.?
Kris

Hi,
There is no Lync client developed specially for Linux system. Other third party client tool has not full feature of lync client. But you can try justin's suggestion, use lync web app to join the lync meeting.

  • Lync 2010 with Exchange 2013 UM

    Hi,
I am currently in the early stages of a large migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. We have moved some test user mailboxes over to Exchange 2013 however have stumbled at the UM integration.
We have 2 x CAS and 3 x Mailbox servers with Lync 2010.
When a user diverts his/her calls to VM, the calls just cuts off and we get "Unable to establish a connection. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 1.1.1.2:5061.
We get this message for all 3 Mailbox servers that it attempts to route the call too. Mailboxes servers listen on 5063 for TLS in Exchange 2013 and these cannot be changed. So what is going wrong with my setup?
Only the CAS are members of the DialPlan (we have tried putting the mailboxes servers in the dial plan with no avail).
Shouldn't the CAS servers redirect Lync to the Mailbox servers on 5063 instead of 5061? Why is Lync trying to connect on 5061 (I know why, but how do I stop it!)
    Many Thanks,
    Eddie

In my case it were Active Directory attributes of object
    CN=MCA1,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange AdmGr...DC=local,DC=com
    The attributes
msExchUM* weren't configured at all, despite being set by GUI and PShell. I had to set them manually through ADSIedit.msc and UM began to work after restarting Lync Server.
I need to investigate further why they aren't set.

  • LYNC 2010 with Multiple Sites and Pools

We have LYNC 2010 Enterprise Pool in North America with 5 Front End servers, 2 Edge Servers. No Director servers deployed. We want to enable Dial-In Conferencing feature for all users across the Globe (to avoid 3rd party conferencing
cost…) and proposing 2 additional pools ( one in EMEA and another in APAC regions). I am looking for best practices to deploy multiple pools on multiple central sites.
Do we need to deploy Director Servers? (Microsoft recommend Director, however is this mandatory for multiple pools?)
How can we handle Simple URLs and DNS entries in multiple Edge pools (edge pool in each frontend pool)?
Do we need to publish different ISA firewall rules for simple URLs and mobility?
As we are not planning to replace PBX now, and only looking to provide dial-in Conferencing Bridge with SIP trunking, what is the best practice to provide site resilience in case one central site is down?
Thanks in advance for your help…
    Tek-Nerd

    Hello.
    1. This is a recommendation and it's not mandatory even with multiples pools. The only point if you don't deploy director is that for the first connection, all sig wil go through one pool (the one behind the srv and dns record) and after this pool redirect
the user to the good one (and also do the authentification) .Also director is made to avoid this type of load on one pool (connection from other pool and from edge authentification), but still not mandatory.
2.Simple URL point only on one entry (or pool of RP) somewhere in the world (after there are some unofficial workaround) but don't forget that behind that there is the external web service URL (for each pool) and also an edge association to one pool. And
the user is really using thoses URL and svc (edge associated to the pool as the ext web url)
For the external web svc & edge association, you can create a local edge pool closer to your internal pool so for those user the media will be closer and don't go trhough the world. (exemple you add one emea pool, the media that come from internet goes
through the emea edge and emea RP handling Lync external web services). But the simple urls still point to your main edge/RP pool.
    3. Like point before, not mandatory, recommendation if you don't want your media going around the world and coming back. Be carefull the association is still fixed (depending of the user's pool parameter), so if the user travel still using original edge/rp
    settings.
    4. You can create multiple trunk with lync so have backup in case of one is no more working. After this is hard to say what is the best, this is depending of your infrastructure.

  • Lync 2010 with Exchange 2010-2013 Migration?

We are installing Lync 2010 for the purpose of internal LAN and Internet/Federated instant messaging, video chat and desktop sharing.
There is no telephone integration and there is no Unified Messaging used in Exchange 2010.
Within a few months after rolling out Lync 2010, Exchange 2010 is going to be migrated to Exchange 2013.  Outlook will remain at Office 2010 and Lync client will be 2010.  We will continue to not use Exchange Unified Messaging after Exchange is
    upgraded to 2013.
Are there any steps required to keep Lync 2010 working normally after the Exchange environment is upgraded from 2010 to 2013 in this scenario?

    Hi
During the migration and post migration to EWS URL for the user i reachable by the Lync 2010 Client
And the outlook client is able to establish a Mapi session with the mailbox all should be fine
as best practice please have the Lync 2010 and outlook 2010 client update to the latest CU update
There is known issue when migrating from Exchange 2007 to 2013 good to know information

  • Integrating Lync 2010 with Avaya AES Server

    Dears,
I'm trying to integrate AES 5.2.3 with Super Patch 2 installed with Lync Server 2010. I installed one Lync Front-End Standard Edition and followe the instruction in the below URl:
    http://support.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/100144425
Also, Customer has AD which use S-LDAP connection, so communication with AD over 389 port is not allowed, we are using 636 port.
I noticed that the CA server (Windows 2003) installed on the environment is Standalone Server, so I cannot find "Certificate Template" in the CA Console but i got it from MMC snap-in and created the required template according to the document (above URL)
    but and continue the steps.
when I enabled users to RCC, and login to Lync Client, i got an error "No Phone System Connection"
    and from snooper, i found
ms-diagnostics: 1038;reason="Failed to connect to a peer server";WinsockFailureCode="10061(WSAECONNREFUSED)";WinsockFailureDescription="The peer actively refused the connection attempt";Peer="aesad.domain.com";Port="4723";source="LYNCFE.domain.com"
by reviewing the certificate on FE server and AES server, i found that, Enhanced Key Usage: Server Authentication although i used a template that afford Server & Client Authentication.
Also, I don't have another server to create Trusted App Pool, so when I run the power shell command I got a warning advise that this machine (App Pool Name) doesn't has Computer Object in AD.
    My Questions:
Is the certificate issued to Lync and AES correct or it should contain both Server & Client Authentication?
Can I use Standalone CA to issue this type of Certificates or I have to install Enterprise CA?
What is the cause of "No Phone System Connection" Error?
How can I check if AES accept communication with Lync on 4723? I tried to telnet with no luck.
Is it supported to allow AES to communicate S-LDAP?
    Regards, Fady Naguib

    Hi Fady,
1.You issued incorrect certificate for Lync and AES. The certificate templates from MMC snap-in is different from the templates form certification Authority. I donot know why there is no "Certificate Template" in your CA console. Do you install the CA component?
2.Maybe It can work you use standalone CA to issue certificate to Lync deployment, but it isnot recommended. You'd better add your CA server to domain and install Enterprise CA.
3.Verify you have add AES server to lync Trusted APP pool successfully. AES server has opend port 4723 port in firewall. You'd better install Enterprose CA and create templates in the CA templates, and issue the certificate for lync server.
4.Make sure AES server has opend port 4723 port in firewall.
5.I think the AES server can communicate s-ldap. you should add AES SERVER FQDN to AD and create A record for it.

    RIWA

    Hi RIWAA,
The help for Enable-CsUser clearly states that sAMAccountName is not a valid option for the Paramter -Identity
I quote the description of the paramter:
"Indicates the Identity of the user account to be enabled for Lync Server. User Identities can be specified
by using one of four formats: 1) the user's SIP address; 2) the user's user principal name (UPN); 3) the user's domain name and logon name, in the form domain\logon (for example, litwareinc\kenmyer); and, 4) the user's Active Directory display name (for example,
Ken Myer). You can also reference a user account by using the user’s Active Directory distinguished name.
You can use the asterisk (*) wildcard character when using the Display Name as the user Identity. For example, the Identity "* Smith" returns all the user who have a display name that ends with the string value " Smith"."

  • Need assistance creating applications with superseedence to uninstall Office 2010, Lync 2010 and then install Office 365 click to run 2013

We are getting ready in a few months to uninstall our locally installed Office 2010 and head to the cloud with Office 365 2013. I have created applications to uninstall Office 2010 and Lync 2010 and then added them to the supersedence tab for Office 365
office 2013 click to run with appv5.
When deploying the office 365 2013 application it does not uninstall office 2010 or lync 2010 with the supersedence.  I am able to manually uninstall Office 2010 and Lync 2010 with the command lines I am using in the applications.
The application uninstall for Office 2010 is:
The application uninstall is an exe so I created an application, created a deployment type with the location of our Office 2010 admin point, installation program and uninstall program are set with the same line as I have tried to deploy it separately and
also as a supersedence in the Office 365 application setup.exe /uninstall ProPlus /config "\\sccmserver\share\Office2010\ProPlus.ww\silentuninstallconfig.xml.  The silentuninstallconfig.xml was created from the original config.xml file and edited
    to these settings:<Configuration Product="ProPlus">
     <Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="NO" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" />
     <Setting Id="Reboot" Value="Never" />
     <Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="NEVER" />
     <OptionState Id="ProductFiles" State="Local" Children="force" />
     </Configuration>
The detection method is the folder path to see that office 14 exists.  When I deploy this the machines finish with success showing this exists, but does not uninstall Office 2010.
running the command line manually mapped to this location on a machine uninstalls office 2010 without issue.
    Lync 2010 uninstall:
Lync is an exe so I am using the LyncSetup.exe /silent /uninstall.  The application is in the supersedence tab for Office 365 2013. This never installs.  If I create a softare distribution and deploy it on its own it uninstalls without issue.
We are going to use Lync 2013 with our office 365 2013 installation so we need to uninstall this.  The detection method for lync is file system folder and the Microsoft lync folder for detection.
MS Office 15 (Office 365) was created with the click to run tool.  I can install this with the application I created using the appv5 package created with the click to run tool.  The issue is we need Office 2010 and Lync 2010 uninstalled first.
Having both versions of Office installed in test has caused issues where Office 15 365 will not list in add and remove programs and cannot be uninstalled even with the fix it article to remove office 2013.
I have looked at many articles and so far it is not working for us.  Any help appreciated to get us to the cloud.
    Thanks,
    Brit

The applications I have for uninstall of office 2010 and Lync 2010 for some reason do not uninstall. Manually testing the command lines they do.  The detection method seems to be hanging things up.  On the lync uninstall detection method I have
the setting type of file system, type folder, path c:\program files\ folder name Microsoft Lync.
I highly recommend using something other than a file/folder "exists" detection method. Installers are constantly leaving things behind due to environmental inconsistencies. It may leave files/folders behind with a schedule to delete files on next reboot.
These things are unpredictable and very hard to use. I just use the "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" Registry location. There you can actually key off the "Product Version" DWORD as well which gives you an even more accurate method
to determine if the application you are trying to deploy (or expect to exist) is truly there. This, of course, being if you are not using an MSI. If you have MSI technology ALWAYS use the product code unless the person writing the MSI chooses to use the same
product code for every version release of their product. In which case, Use the registry method.
As far as getting the supersedence and everything working. You need to start from the basics. Create Applications for all of the apps you want to remove. Make sure they install and uninstall properly (seems like overkill but it isn't that hard). Once you
have working install/uninstall applications then you can easily apply supersedence to your new applications with a setting of Uninstall on the superseded apps you should have no problem getting rid of them. I have done this for numerous things.
For example, I did this with Cisco Jabber to replace older versions of jabber, older versions of cisco unified personal communicator and lync and OSC. All of these replaced versions had to have an Application but once it was in it took two seconds to apply
all the supersedence rules and now I know when I push that software out no matter version is running on any machine it will pull all the old apps off and put the new one on.

  • Ho do I know if an ORACLE autmatically starts up with the linux machine?

three of the machines are RAC database and there is one single node database. How do I know if the DB will automatically startup with Linux machine? and if does not automatically start how can I modify the DB's so that they will automatically start with the Linux Machine?
    Thanks,
    Jayanth

    I assume we're talking about 11gR2.
    Try the following:
    ps -ef | grep ohas
In general if you use ASM you use Oracle Restart.
    Here is the [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/restart001.htm#ADMIN12709]documentation.
In fact it's not that complicated and if you use GUI tools (don't hate) such as asmca, netca, dbca all the components are automatically registered with Oracle Restart. If you don't then you can always use srvctl utility (same as in case of RAC) to start, stop, register, remove, check configuration of your services e.g. listener, asm, instances and much more. Actually there're a lot of similarities to Oracle Clusterware, but of cause it's just a single instance with all the simplifications that follow.
It's just very unpractical for me to type a page of text that would pretty much copy readily available documentation.
    Hope it helps.

  • Lync 2010 Integration with Exchange Online UM

    Hi All,
Recently I have got the project to integrate Lync 2010 with Exchange Online UM, I have gone through the TechNet article but it seems very confusing and things are not very clear, can some please please help me out in this that how to setup this, what ports
do I need to allow from on premises to Exchange online UM.
There are some other questions as well which is not clear from TechNet.
    1. Create SRV record, when I create the SRV record in external dns then in the host providing this service will be access edge fqdn is this correct.
    2. Configure Edge Server for federation (do I need to run this on Edge server or on Lync FE Servers,  I believe on FE SErvers is this correct, if yes then do I need to run the setup again on Edge server by exporting Topology or the replication will
    do the needful)
    3. To Create a hosting provider do I need to run this command on Edge or on Lync FE Servers.
    4. To create a hosting provider you need to run the command
    New-CsHostingProvider -Identity Fabrikam.com -Enabled $True -EnabledSharedAddressSpace $True -HostsOCSUsers $False -ProxyFQDN "proxyserver.fabrikam.com" -IsLocal $False -VerficationLevel UseSourceVerification
now from the above command -Identity what will be the Identity name it can be any thing or it should be some thing related to exchange online um.
for -proxyfqdn what will be the FQDN name here, from where I can get this name
    5. Do I need to add or remove any domain names in office 365 if yes then what domain names it will be
    6. If my sip address is abc.com then do I have to add this domain name in exchange online or do I need to add another domain name how this setup will be
    7. if I will create any new domain in the dns in office 365 then do I need to add this domain name in my external dns if yes then which ip it will be pointed to.
Please guys help me out as I m new to exchange um online and I have never integrated it before.
    Appreciate your help

    1. Yes, create an SRV as per Lync documentation for external access to Edge.
    2. Correct, all config is done on
Front End and will be replicated to the Edge servers. As long as your Edge servers are replicating successfully theere is no need to do a manual import.
    3. Run this PowerShell on the Front End
    4. Identity is a name to identify the hosting provider such as "Exchange Online". See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398490.aspx
proxyfqdn for Exchange Online is exap.um.outlook.com
    5. Your SIP domain will need to be added a a vanity domain in Office 365
    6. Same as above, just add as vanity domain
    7. Any added domains need to be setup as per Office 365 documentation, nothing special needs to be done for UM integration.

  • New Lync 2010 Deployment With OWA 2010 Integration Not Working

I just installed Lync 2010 and it works fine with the Lync 2010 client.
Our Exchange Server is Exchange 2010 SP3 and I can't get the OWA integration to work.
I found various blogs with instructions, but they are all so old that I'm not sure all the prerequisite software hotfixes downloads they are pointing to install are still valid for Exchange 2010 SP3 and the Lync 2010 with all the latest updates.
For a little while I got it partially working in OWA where some of the Lync integration was showing, but it was grayed out and the contacts lists would never load.  Now that I have tried several solutions, it no longer even partially works.
I think I need to clear all the integration settings from both Exchange and Lync, so I can start over with valid instructions.
What are the current instructions and current download files needed with the most up to date versions of Lync 2010 and Exchange 2010?
I also need to make sure that the syntax of the all the server and certificate names the various commands and wizards ask for are exactly correct.  Some of it is confusing on whether it is the actual DNS name, Exchange certificate SAN name or something
    else.

Hi, I am using Group Policy/vb/Lync customization tools to deploy 2013 and remove 2010. The machines have Office 2010. The vb script is as below:
    Dim objShell 'As Object
    Dim objFSO 'As FileSystemObject
    '-- SET OBJECTS
    Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set objShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    strComputerName = objShell.ExpandEnvironmentStrings("%COMPUTERNAME%")
    Dim WshNetwork : Set WshNetwork = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Network")
    objShell.Run """\\xxxxxxxxx - Do not Remove\Lync Install 2013 2010\Lync 2013 Outlook 2010\setup.exe"""
I have amended the OCT with relevant settings, Lync 2013 installs but Lync 2010 does not uninstall. Here is how i have it set:
In the Office Customization Tool - Set-up - Add Installation and Run Programs,
In target - pointing to the Lync2010 exe file (on above share)
    In Arguments - /silent /uninstall
    Is this correct?
Also, i would have thought that, Remove Previous Installations, it would have an option to remove Lync2010?
    Anyway..pulling my hair out here!
    Hope you can help.

  • Uninstall of Lync 2010

We are in the middle of rolling out O365 Pro Plus on Win 7 and I was wondering if there was a script to
uninstall Lync 2010? I have the OffScrub10.vbs script that removes the Office 2010 suite, but Lync is not included in that suite, therefore is left on the PC once the script is complete. Is there an easy way to remove this application other than Programs and
    Features?

  • SBC between Lync 2010 and ExUM 2010

Can we integrate Lync 2010 to ExUM 2010 voice mail if there is a session border controller connected in between them using TLS SIP Trunks?

Hi, SBC allow different parts of the network to communicate through the use of a variety of techniques such as below, is one of ways connection mediation server to telephone network provider; Integration Lync 2010 with ExUM 2010 rather than make them communication
together, furthermore, they are need to be making MTLS connection, query contact object from AD and apply dialplan to let inbound dialing.
    NAT traversal
SIP normalization via SIP message and header manipulation
    IPv4 to IPv6 interworking
    VPN connectivity
Protocol translations between SIP, SIP-I, H.323
So if you need to integrate premise Lync 2010 with hosted ExUm 2010, I would suggest you make them integrated as Mark said.

  • Lync 2010 Archiving IM log time record is 6 hours off

When I run a export of the IM logs in Lync 2010 with the following command.
    Export-CSArchivingData -DBInstance lync-sql\rtc -StartDate 2/3/2014 -EndDate 2/5/2014 -OutputFolder "C:\logs" -Useruri "[email protected]"
I get the log file but all the time stamps are 6 hours off. I though oh we are in CST the server is set to UTC. Thats not the case the front end server and sql servers are all set to the correct time zones. I did see an article that referenced in OCS 2007
that the database time stamp was off. does anyone know how I can change the database time zone from UTC to CST?
    Thank you
    Kirt

I know that when your query the database directly it will return times in UTC, so maybe apply an offset to the output file to correct your current timezone.

  • Lync 2010 and Outlook 2013 - not talking!

I have problemns with Lync 2010 with Outlook 2013 under Windows 8.
Conversation History is not being saved.
    All the patches are installed.
When I click on "show more in Outlook" it complains the accounts are not the same. I have two exchange accounts configured within the one Outlook profile. I never had this issue under Outlook 2010.
    ERROR:
The email address used in your default Outlook profile is different from the sign-in address used in Lync 2010.
Change your default Outlook profile to match the sign-in address you are using in Lync, and then sign out and sign back in to Lync.
My default account is the same as my Lync sign-in name.
    I have tried everything.

    Mate,
There is no issue on conversation history save option, when I use Outlook 2010.
    The issue only to Outlook 2013 with Lync 2010?  Two observations;
=> Save IM in outlook ( greyed out ) - Lync 2010 client
=> When I check Lync config information - MAPI is not installed  - Lync 2010 client
    Could you advice.
