Lync 2013 basic crashing on T520 and T530?
We use SCCM to deploy our machines and with the Thinkpad's T520 and T530 having the Intel HD 3000 or 4000 graphical card the application is crashing without reason
When we use Teamviewer in a remote session Lync is working fine. How come and how can we solve this?
Peer to peer or 1-on-1 chatting send the audio peer to peer (not through the server). When you add another participant, the audio then flows through an A/V Conferencing Server (assuming you're running 2010 server per the forum you posed in, this is
often the same as your front end pool). This sounds like a port restriction or connectivity issue.

If not that, then check your conferencing configuration (are you hosting?), ensure you're not muted, try from a different machine.

Hi all,
Anyone knows where can I find .msi file for Lync 2013 basic client? Microsoft website only have .exe which doesn't work with GPO software deployment.
ThanksThe Basic client doesn't come in an MSI version, the following two links might help you work with the extracted exe:

Activate Microsoft Lync 2013 basic to full version.
Hi,
In our customer environment around 5000 machines have been installed with LYNC 2013 Basic, however We have the licensed LYNC 2013 full version need to replace LYNC 2013 basic version What is the best way to achieve this.
Thanks in Advance.
Regards,
MadhanHi Tanders,
This is what you need to do:
1. Take that download and run lyncentry.exe /extract (when prompted, drop the files into a new folder)
2. Inside of the lyncentry.ww it creates, edit a file called "config.xml"
3. Change the "Display Level" Line to: <Display Level="None" CompletionNotice="No" SuppressModal="no" AcceptEula="Yes" />
4. Make sure to remove the <!-- and --> at the begiinning and end of the line.
5. Then, you are going to publish the setup.exe in the top level folder. You must upload the entire folder and its sub folders to Intune (there is a checkbox to upload all the subfolders as well)
6. When prompted to provide command line options, use: /config lyncentry.ww\config.xml
That should be it. It will completely unattended and silently.
Hope that helps.

Lync 2013 Basic - Versioning is not correct
Hello
We migrated our Lync 2010 clients to Lync 2013 Basic x86 15.0.4420.1017 and I deployed the updates of September 2014 onto them:
1_mso2013-kb2883052-fullfile-x86-glb.exe
2_msores2013-kb2817624-fullfile-x86-glb.exe
3_orgidcrl2013-kb2826040-fullfile-x86-glb.exe
4_lynchelploc2013-kb2881083-fullfile-x86-glb.exe
5_lync2013-kb2881070-fullfile-x86-glb.exe
The number in front is the place in de sequence
They install very well but in the add/remove programs I still see the 15.0.4420.1017 where in the 'Help' -> 'About Microsoft Lync' I have the updates.
What is causing this and how can I resolve this because I do an inventory in SCCM and it's not reliable?Thanks but I only manage the client side, the server side is done by someone else and this query must be run on the SQL db from Lync 2013
Is there a method for deploying the patches in the right way? Now I do it in a script which installs each patch one by one;
Snippet;
'install 32-bit patch for kb2899493
LogFile.WriteLine(Now & " - Installing update kb2899493.exe...")
Return = objShell.Run(strScriptPath & "\1_mso2013-kb2899493-fullfile-x86-glb.exe /quiet /norestart /log",0,True)
Results("kb2889927_x86")
'install 32-bit patch for kb2817624
LogFile.WriteLine(Now & " - Installing update kb2817624...")
Return = objShell.Run(strScriptPath & "\2_msores2013-kb2817624-fullfile-x86-glb.exe /quiet /norestart /log",0,True)
Results("kb2817624_x86")
'install 32-bit patch for kb2881083
LogFile.WriteLine(Now & " - Installing update kb2881083...")
Return = objShell.Run(strScriptPath & "\3_lynchelploc2013-kb2881083-fullfile-x86-glb.exe /quiet /norestart /log",0,True)
Results("kb2881083_x86")
'install 32-bit patch for kb2899507
LogFile.WriteLine(Now & " - Installing update kb2899507...")
Return = objShell.Run(strScriptPath & "\4_lync2013-kb2899507-fullfile-x86-glb.exe /quiet /norestart /log",0,True)
Results("kb2889929_x86")
When I do an inventory through SCCM reporting I cannot get the correct updated version because the patches didn't do their job by updating the number in the add/remove programs list. When I check in the 'about lync' option I can clearly see that the update
has been done... -
Lync 2013 Basic Client Silent Uninstall
When attempting a silent uninstall of Lync2013, I am getting the message "Are you sure you want to remove Microsoft Lync Basic 2013 from your computer?
We've noticed you have other Office products that will remain installed after you uninstall this product. We recommend you Repair these products from the Programs and features item in your Control Panel once you're done uninstalling."
If we select 'yes' to continue the uninstall, it completes successfully, but displays another prompt upon completion "Microsoft Lync Basic 2013 has been successfully uninstalled" and requires the user to click 'Close.'
The environment we wish to uninstall Lync 2013 from has other Office 2010 products installed, and the do not seem to be affected by allowing this uninstallation to run.
I am using a config.xml file <Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="no" SuppressModal="yes" NoCancel="yes" AcceptEula="yes" />
This config.xml works great for a silent installation, but how can I disable the 2 prompts during an uninstallation?Hello
TCUSYSADM,
For silent removal of Lync Basic 2013 I'm using a batch file with the following commandline:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE15\Office Setup Controller\setup.exe" /uninstall LYNCENTRY /dll OSETUP.DLL /config c:\temp\config_uninstall_Lync_Basic.xml
Where c:\temp\config_uninstall_Lync_Basic.xml looks like this:
<Configuration Product="LYNCENTRY">
<Display Level="None" AcceptEULA="TRUE" />
<Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="NEVER" />
</Configuration>
Start the batch file with the Run as Administartor option. Did not see any prompts.
Before this I tried to start the xml file from an UNC path, but that didn't work. So I copied the xml file to a local folder. -
Lync 2013 aborts (crashes) after call is terminated
Computer is on a network. Desktop is running Win 7 64 bit with lync 2013. When the user terminates a call lync aborts and asks if user wants to restart Lync. I believe this is profile related as I logged on as myself with my credentials and could not
make the same issue happen. The user also logged into a different computer and worked fine. Did not crash after ending a call. This issue just started as the user has been with this computer for quite some time with no issues before now.
Is there a fix for the user profile?
ThanksYou can enable log on phone device, then check if the phone got the BYE signal in log file.
The log files are stored on the Lync filestore associated with the pool where the user logged into the phone hosted. Should be something like
\\fileserver\LyncShare\*WebServices*\DeviceUpdateLogs\...

We are having this on a few lync clients. The crashes are at random, a few times per day. Generally happens when the client is idle. Windows 7 systems, with the latest version of the client. (15.0.4517.1504)Any ideas?Hi Everett.Chris,
Did you solve the issue with the suggestion Waqas105 provided?
Did you install Bluetooth on your computer? If yes, please remove it and test the issue again.
Please also make sure you remove all instances of the Lync 2013 Security Update KB2817465.
If the issue persists, please past the entire log or message when Lync client crashes so that we know which file cause the issue.

How to remove OCS and install lync 2013 on MS Office 2007 and 2010
Hi,
We need to install lync 2013 on our systems having office 2007 and 2010 via SCCM 2012.
Please suggest.
Regards, Syed Fahad AliLync 2013 no longer has its own installer, but instead uses the Office installer. You can create a customized installation and deploy it just like you do with Office:

Thanks in advance,If you update your client to the most recent version, does the issue reoccur?
How many Singh's do you have at your company? I'm curious if there's an active directory attribute that is returned with that user that the client really just doesn't like. Can you go into Active Directory Users and Computers, select View->Advanced
then manually find Singh (don't search) and go to the Attribute Editor tab. Do you see any attribute in there (not just Lync attributes) that seems to have any odd or escape characters?

Lync 2013 client Microphone auto Gain and video aspect ratio settings
I can't disable the auto microphone gain which seems to be regulated by the Lync client.
When having a meeting with video for instance, the microphone of the listening partner (side b) will keep on increasing the microphone gain, until it is on its maximum, because the listening partner is listening and does not make any noise.
When someone on the other side of the room on side b is having a conversation with someone else, the mic gain keeps increasing till side a can follow that conversation, the mic is very sensitive.
This can not be, there is no way to disable the gain in the Lync client, I've tried to disable the right of a program to take exclusive right of the device, without succes.
Why did Microsoft didn't think about this, we need an advanced settings menu where things can be shaped.
Not only the microphone gain is a problem, also the way the video is presented, there is no way to set an aspect ratio, if i'm having a 16:9 screen the video is chopped at the bottem and top of the video of the sending partner, so i'm unable to see the whole
room of the sending side, which is there cause the cam can provide me a nice overview of the side when viewing the local cam at that side, but not with Lync.
We are in an evaluation of Lync, but really getting annoyed by these short comings, in my opinion some basic settings which should be in lync from start. We can not sell these short comings to our employees.
Maybe i'm looking in the wrong direction, if so, please tell me.Hi,
Sorry for any inconvenience caused. You can try to set
allowing high-definition video, with a resolution of 1280 x 720 and aspect ratio 16:9. For details about HD Video in Lync:

Lync 2013 + clear "Sign-In Address" and disable "Save Password" on shared account
Hello,
We are trying to setup Lync on a few kiosk machines that will have a shared non-admin account. We'd like to modify Lync to not save the "Sign-In Address" and instead of showing the last persons login credentials, show "[email protected]".
I'd also like to disable the "Save Password" check box.
The kiosks are not on the domain, although the vast majority of our machines are on the domain and we have SSO setup and don't want to mess with how that part of the signin process is working.
Is there a way to modify the login behavior of Lync via GPO or Task Scheduler/Scripts?
Phillip ToyntonOpen Control Panel, click Credential Manager.
Remove the credential for Lync account. Then you can enter the password again.
You can uncheck save my password, the related registry key is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\SavePassword.
But this registry can be modified by Lync users, you can’t disable it.

Is there a setting I can change on mobile app or desktop app that will allow this to work?
I like to stay signed into the desktop client so I can manage my contacts as well as chat with co-workers, but I don't have a camera or microphone so I need to answer calls on my iPad.Normally, both client on Ipad and computer can receive the call.
Can you test it on your mobile phone?
I tested on my Android mobile phone and computer, I could receive the video call on both.
Please try to update your Lync client to the latest version.

Lync 2013 - Generate CSR with EKU and additional SANs?
Hi,
I'm in the middle of setting up both an Edge server and Reverse Proxy (Which will be on an F5 appliance). According to
this article, I have to generate the CSR using powershell to retain interoperability with AOL. After reading
this article it looks like I can use the same cert on both the Edge and Reverse Proxy, so long as I specify all the SANs in the CSR.
The problem is, I can't figure out how to generate the CSR in powershell and add additional SANs, like I can in the GUI. But I can't use the GUI because it won't add the client EKU needed for AOL. What's the syntax to add additional SANs via powershell?
I have read that using powershell will inherit the SAN configuration, but I have found no way to confirm what SANs it is actually requesting, since the CSR is encrypted text.
EDIT: I should add that our org already has an existing wildcard certificate that we use for other sites, but its SN is *.domain.com (which I believe is not supported) and does not have the additional needed SANs. I assume that this cert cannot be used but
please let me know if I'm mistaken.
Thanks in advance.Matt,
Depending on how many of these clients you have will dictate your solution. If you don't have many then you can simply install the Cert chain manually on each PC in the Local Computer > Trusted Root Certificate Authority store.
If you have tons though you are possibly best getting a public cert which covers your internal namespace also.
So as long as you are not using some internal name like .local or .internal and you are using the same namespace as your public domain then you are ok.
You would however need to specify the names you would be using on your reverse proxy server for meetings and dialin and lync discover for mobility on this cert which may be costly!!!!
So your cert would then have the following for example:
Subject name:
sip.mydomain.com
SAN:
sip.mydomain.com
mydomain.com
lyncfe01.mydomain.com -- INTERNAL Front End Server Name(s)
lyncpool.mydomain.com -- (If using Enterprise Edition)
meet.mydomain.com -- Internal users will require this for connecting to the meeting from internally, unless you are forcing them out and back in through your reverse proxy server.
dialin.mydomain.com -- As above for meet
lyncdiscover.mydomain.com
etc.....
To be honest, if it was me then i would go with manually installing the cert (or use SSCM or whatever you use for client management if possible)
good Luck

Lync 2013 SP1 64 bit crashes on Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit SP1
Systems Involved:
Dell OptiPlex 9020 All in One (080) –Crashes Lync 2013 64bit SP1
Dell OptiPlex 9020 All in One (081) –Crashes with Lync 2013 64bit SP1 -Working okay with 2010 so far
Dell OptiPlex 9020 All in One (083) –Clean install Seems to be working okay
Details of the problems
I have a put in place 2 Dell OptiPlex 9020 All in One’s both with network card Intel I217-LM.
The first system (080) I put place crashed several times before, I put a different new 9020AIO (083) that I created a new with clean install from disk of Windows 7 and Office 2013 64 bit with Lync 2013 64 bit upgraded to SP1. After having this
system side by side with the system that was crashing all the time and network capturing software installed on the new system this issue appeared to disappear. The user has not reported an issue with Lync 2013 in three to 4 weeks.
After thinking this was an issue with Office 2013-upgraded SP1. I decided to create a new image Windows 7 and Office 2013 64 bit SP1 intergraded .iso from web store. (Not upgraded) thinking there was something wrong with the SP 1 upgrade the way I intended
it to work. I reimaged the other 9020’s I have including the one (080) that was having the crashing issues.
The second system (081) is a new image I created, the system got some office updates from the WSUS it should not have been updated with and Lync 2013 was also crashing. I decided to reimage (080) a clean format with the new image. I put this system in
place for the user knowing it was clean install and not have any issue but for the last 2 weeks Lync 2013 has crashed.
I did take their old system back to my desk and was able to get it to crash as well. I decided to see if this problem was with Lync so I installed Lync 2010 I have not seen issue with 2010 yet.
I have also rolled out 2 Dell OptiPlex 7010 towers with the same image as above with no issues so it seems like this issue is only related to the 9020AIO.
Issue:
The computer will operate fine for most of the time but Lync 2013 will crash with not responding, please sign into Lync on the phone (Plantronics D540m). I get windows circle thing spinning and Lync is not responding if you close the
program it will try to run solution finder but there is not anything that will help. The only way to fix this issue is to reboot at this time. At first I thought it was the network driver issue for Intel I217-LM but after installing the usb network
adapter I believe the issue is something related to Lync 2013 SP1
Things I have tried
1. System Event : Application Log pulled I will include below in this message
2. 9020 with Intel I217-LM
3. Update driver version = to current version
4. Change power management settings as outlined http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/p/19523337/20460673.aspx
5. Disable Wireless and Bluetooth
6. Reset users Lync account
7. USB Network Adapter.
Event Logs:
1.The program lync.exe version 15.0.4569.1503 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.
