Lync 2013 - consuming 180 ringing responses from a forked request

Is it possible to configure Lync 2013 to only send a single 180/183 ringing back upstream after an INVITE to Lync triggers multiple INVITEs to Lync subscriber endpoints that each end up generating a 180/183 message.
In case of simultaneous ring, I want Lync to consume all these 180s to avoid unnecessary messaging back to the originator INVITE'ing Lync that is behind a SBC.
It seems to be acting as a forking proxy rather than b2bua.

Hi,
Agree with Holger Bunkradt.
Lync Server determines which endpoint is currently most active for that user. For example, a user might be Away at two of the three endpoints, so the server sends the message only to the endpoint where the user is Available. If the server is unable to determine
which state is most active, it sends the message to the endpoint it determines most likely active and waits to see if the user acknowledges the toast at any location. If the user opens the toast at an endpoint, the server removes the message from the other
endpoints. If an endpoint doesn’t acknowledge the message, the server leaves the message at only one location which is the most likely endpoint.

  • Lync 2013 and simultaneous ring

We have Lync 2013 and 2010 in our topology with Cisco Call Manager version 8.x. Simultaneous ring worked for a while but is no longer fully functional. Lync client to Lync client calls ring in Lync and on the desktop phone but calls to the desk number do
not ring in Lync. Users are set up in mobility and set for enterprise voice and have a URI. The voice policy has sim ring enabled. I don't see much in the logs but I might be looking in the wrong place. Anywhere I can look on the log server or client side
to narrow it down? I am not the VoIP guy but any help would be appreciated.

Check the following document about how to configure simultaneous ring feature between Lync Server and Cisco Unified Communications Manager:

  • Lync 2013 Photos will not update from AD

I recently joined a company who has Lync 2013, Exchange 2010 and AD is at a 2003 functional level. We are experiencing issues where Lync photos are not updating from AD correctly. I have checked the pre-reqs;  Replicate this attribute to the Global
Catalog is set for the ThumbnailPhoto attribute. We are also forcing photos from AD only (or no photo) by setting the following:
    "Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity PhotosControl -DisplayPhoto PhotosFromADOnly"
and finally we are setting the photo in ad using:
"Import-RecipientDataProperty -Identity "Test User" -Picture -FileData ([Byte[]]$(Get-Content -Path "C:\pictures\testuser.jpg" -Encoding Byte -ReadCount 0))"
The pictures being uploaded are under 10KB and update within Outlook but never updates on Lync. I have also manually tried running the "Update-CsAddressBook" command from Lync and waiting 24hours + but the photo will not update in Lync. I have
also tried a 3rd party utility that grabs the attribute directly from each DC individually and each node is displaying the correct photo. Any Ideas?
EDIT: I did some more testing and can say with quite a bit of certainty there is something not quite right on the Lync side of things. I started with the company over a month ago and although users can see my original photo that was added to AD, I myself
do not even see it loaded in my client yet. I've completly dumped my local Lync cache but no change. Is there a specific Lync Server service that handles retrieving/pushing photos to the Lync clients?

Thank you so much for your reply, it was very helpful in understanding how the service is suppose to work however I have still not been able to correct the issue.
What I have found by using your article may have narrowed down the scope of the problem. I was able to find that on our Lync file store, the cached contacts/photos are being updated daily (as expected) and actually contain the correct photos. I confirmed
this be using abserver.exe on the .lsabs file and then locating the contactID for a few users I know are not updating properly. Once I have their contact ID I simply look for their .photo file in the cached files, copy it out to a different location and change
it to a .jpeg. To my surprise the photos are actually the correctly updated ones, so why are these no getting to the users/clients? I have gone through and deleted my local cache folder as well as the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync
but unfortunately no change on my Client. I still see these users original photos.
Another piece of the puzzle; We are also working on letting mobile devices connect to our Lync infrasructure as well. This is not fully functional yet however during my testing I did get Lync client for android running for a little while and low and behold
the pictures are actually correct on my mobile device!! Surely this must give some kind of clue?
We are planning to upgrade Exchange from 2010 to 2013 and I hoping that leveraging the HiDef photo capabilities for Lync 2013 with Exchange 2013 may fix this issue. What do you guys think?

    Dear All,
    Many thanks in advance.
My Lync 2013 mobile client is unable to login via internal network.
I have tried to provide external web directory and lyncdiscover by giving way through internal leg of reverseproxy(TMG).
I think I'm missing something from the basic. Will appreciate your reply. :)

You are not missing something basic, this is a real issue with using Lync mobile while on internal corpnet. A known feature (issue) with Lync mobile is that has to connect to the external web services. So when internal it will hairpin out your FW and connect
    to the web services:

  • Lync 2013 not hear ring back in mobile when call by number

    Hi,
I have setup a Lync server 2013 standard Front end on windows server 2012 R2 and also installed update for Mobility service and enabled it. It seems everything works perfect but...
When I call by number in android phones and iphones, I do not hear ring back tone, although call is proceeded and if the calling person answer the call, everything will be fine. The strange thing is that if I call by name I hear ring back
    tone.
This problem does not exist while using windows phone or desktop client.
    Thanks, Amir.

Early media refers to media (e.g., audio and video) that is exchanged  before a particular session is accepted by the called user.
If the remote party does not generate it, then you will not hear it. As stated by Holger, the logs will have this information. Without the logs it is not possible to identify where the problem is. Your app might have received it and not played it or it was
    never send.

  • Lync 2013 Desktop SHaring Not working from Internet

    Hi,
I am facing one issue, my Desktop Sharing is not working for Internet Clients, error message comes is "we could not connect to the presentation because of network issues" Internally it is working fine even I from Edge Server.
I am using single Public IP Configuration on Edge Server with Port 5061,444,443,3478.
Any suggestions, on I can check are welcome.
    Best Regards, Ranjit Singh

    Hello Ranjit,
Application Sharing/Desktop Sharing happens  through SRTP  through the A/V edge Server hence checking the Port Range is very important
Following Port reachability to be checked first
    Public --> Edge server:
    TCP/443
    UDP/3478
    TCP/50,000-59,999 (Outbound only)
From the Front End pool to the internal Edge:
    TCP/5062
    TCP/443
    UDP/3478
From the internal Edge to the Front End Pool:
    TCP/5065
    TCP/49152-65335 (Inbound/Outbound)

  • Install-CsDatabase Command Execution Failed: the network name cannot be found Lync 2013

Hi, I'm having problems when trying to create a new central management database on Lync 2013 to move the one from Lync 2010.
    I'm executing this command:
    Install-CsDatabase -CentralManagementDatabase -SQLServerFQDN <FQDN of your SQL Server> -SQLInstanceName <name of instance>
The user is member of RTCUniversalServerAdmins and is a SysAdmin on the SQL Server.
    Any ideas are appreciated, thanks!
    Eduardo Rojas

    Hi, thanks for your response,
The server does respond to PING using the DNS name.
I turned on network discovery and verified I can telnet to the port that is using for SQL, however is not the normal 1433, is another port (1439) , so I don't know if that is needed to be specified when excecuting the command and how to do it because I haven't
been able to see a port switch on the Install-CsDatabase command.
I also specified the correct instance for Lync, is the same server I used to install Lync Server 2013.
when Excecuting the commando it starts generating a lot of information when trying to create the database, it's not like it just doesn't find the server and throws the error immediately.
One of the things it says before the error is:
Attaching database xds from data path \\server\c$\csdata\... and the path.
The operation failed because xds is DbState_NonExist.
Attaching database failed because one of the files not found. The database will be created.
State of database xds is DbState_DoesNotExist.
Creating database xds from scratch. Data file path = c:\csdata\centralmgmstore\... and the path.
Then the error is generated: The network name cannot be found.
Any other ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks.

    Hi Team,
Lync 2013 client - part of Office 2013 Pro Plus - unable to edit or remove picture, option is grayed out.
Using Exchange 2010 Server and Lync 2010 Server at the back. To the best of my knowledge, this option is only available when using Exchange 2013 rather than Ex 2010.
Can somebody confirm this as I am not 100% sure about it.

    Hi,
The photo precedence in Lync 2013 is high-resolution photo from Exchange 2013 -> Photo from web address -> Active Directory photo. The "Edit or Remove Picture" button is available if you integrate Lync Server 2013 with Exchange 2013.
Since you are Lync server 2010 and Exchange 2010, you can choose the following two options:
The thumbnailPhoto attribute on the user's object in Active Directory Domain Services
A URL configured by the user

  • Lync 2013 IM (OWA) Exchange integration - Only works internally

    Hi Everyone
I have followed this tutorial which details how to integrate Lync with Exchange OWA:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/13168.integrating-exchange-2013-owa-and-lync-server-2013.aspx#Acessando_o_OWA
Everything works perfectly internally, however when I browse to the external OWA website I cannot sign in with IM(inside OWA). My lync client works correctly over the internet as I can make video calls to other Lync users on my domain(application on an external
    PC)
Can anyone point me in the right direction? It must be something simple as it works internally. OWA works correctly externally. I can login, send/receive emails etc. I just can't get the IM to sign in
    (Edit):
    Current setup:
1x Lync 2013 server which is accessible from the internet via an ARR IIS server
1x Edge server which faces the internet
1x Exchange 2013 server which is accessible from the internet via an ARR IIS server
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hi,
Did you get any error message when integrating Lync server and OWA?
Please update to the latest version for Lync server and Exchange and test again.
Please make sure that the certificate you use on the MBX server is trusted by the Lync 2013 server and vice versa. Typically this means using certificates from a mutually trusted CA, perhaps the enterprise CA
You can troubleshooting with the help of the link below of “Troubleshooting tips for Exchange 2013 OWA IM Integration to Lync 2013”:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/jenstr/archive/2012/10/31/troubleshooting-tips-for-exchange-2013-owa-im-integration-to-lync-2013.aspx
If issue persists, you can try to use SIPStack tracing to collect reports:

  • Lync 2013 edge server request certificates

I am deploying Lync 2013 edge server, how to get the certificate request file[certificate
signing request (CSR)] on setp 3: Reques, install or Assign Certficates.
    i need your help!
    Thanks!

    Agree with Jason.
On the Certificate Request File page, type the full path and file name to which the request is to be saved.
After you get Certificate Request File, you need to submit this file to your CA (by email or other method supported by your organization for your enterprise CA) and, when you receive the response file, copy the new certificate to this computer so that it
    is available for import.

  • How can I get Lync 2013 to "remember" the size of my conversation window

Each time I open a Lync conversation, the window size always reverts to a default that is too small.  With Lync 2010, a new conversation remembered the size of the window from a previous conversation.  How can I get Lync 2013 to remember the
size from a previous conversation?  I have a multi-monitor setup and would also like for Lync to remember the location of the last conversation window.  Lync 2010 remembered both the size and location.  I have Lync 2013 and Windows 7.

I believe what you're seeing is expected behaviour. The Lync 2013 client appears to remember the position of the conversation window relative to the Lync client itself. It seems like it is noting it's screen co-ordinates based on the clients location. This
works fine for single monitor, but ultimately means that a conversation window cannot remember it' location if it is on a different screen to the Lync client itself.
Regarding the window size - I believe this has come up before and is not something you can change either natively in Lync, or through registry manipulation.
    Kind regards
    Ben

  • Lync 2013 Response Group - timeout issues

I have an Lync 2013 Enterprise Pool deployment with three FE servers.  For the Response Group configuration, the Group is setup as Informal, Alert Time 20 seconds, Routing method as Attendant with a single agent in it.  The Queue is setup
with the Enable queue time out set to 20 seconds and forward call to voicemail to a sip user.  The workflow is huntgroup with routing to Queue during business hours.
when I call from inside or outside, Lync call or PSTN call, the agent gets alerted for 20 seconds while the external caller hears music on hold, but after the 20 seconds, instead of going to voicemail, the call comes back to the agent and the caller hears
nothing for the next 20 seconds.  after two separate 20 second ring cycles for the agent and 20 seconds of music and 20 seconds of dead air for the caller, the call is routed to Exchange UM.
Changing Alert Time or Queue Timeout has no impact on the above behavior (except for the amount of time a call rings during each cycle).  Routing on queue timeout to another user or a number instead of voicemail also results in the same behavior.
I have tested the exact configuration on Lync 2013 Standard Edition and it works fine.
Anyone ran into similar issues with Lync 2013 Enterprise pool?

We just experienced the same issue today on a Lync 2013 Standard Edition server. I originally had the Agents set for Informal Participation, 10 second alert, and Attendant Routing method. The call would come in to the Response Group (either PSTN or internal...same
behavior) and ring all the users. The caller would hear hold music for 10 seconds while all Agents rang. Then the caller would hear silence while the callee's end would stop ringing for a second and then start ringing again (caller's end remains silent).
When I changed the routing method to Serial, I ended up with the same sort of function but broken down by user. So, the caller would hear hold music while the first Agent rang for 10 seconds. Then the caller would hear silence and the Agent's ringing would
stop momentarily and start again. The Queue has a 15 second limit before timeout, so it would timeout to an IVR (as configured) at that time. Because it is in production, I couldn't mess with things too much but I hope to test and make changes this evening
    if needed.
