Lync 2013 Contact Troubleshooting - Searching contacts & Adding Contacts to Contact Lists

Running into some interesting issues with a new Lync 2013 deployment that I am having some problems finding troubleshooting steps and resolution for.
Topology
Lync 2013 installed in a very straight forward single-server, standard environment.
Active Directory on Windows 2012, functional level is 2003
Exchange in the environment is 2007
Testing Lync 2013 client on Windows 8
Windows 8 computer is NOT on the domain, but is on the same LAN
Windows 8 computer Outlook account is NOT configured for that Exchange server
Currently just testing functionality of searching for users and adding them to the client contact list.  After reading through countless threads, I have run the local registry update to download address book on startup of Lync client on Windows 8, run
the update-csaddressbook and update-csuserdatabase with no errors.
What I am running into is when I search for a user through the client, I get proper results showing the user i was searching for, however, they show no presence and cannot be added to the contact list, giving the error "Cannot add, remove or move contacts
or groups at this time, please try again later"
(apparently running into issues uploading images)
However, if I search for sip:[email protected], presence shows up, I can add the user to the contact list and communicate with them no problem.
What would be the next steps for troubleshooting?

Hi,Justin,
Are these users newly created? If so please wait for 24 hours to have a test.
Also please check event viewer on Domain controller to check AD replication and synchronization are completed.
Besides, you can enable Lync server logging and client logging to get more specific information to see what happens to the address book service.
Regards,
Sharon

  • Cannot add groups to Lync 2013 contact list

Just recently we've had reports (and I can verify this myself) in the Lync 2013 client if you add a group to the contact list, it says "Cannot perform this action, and the cause is unknown.  Contact your support team to investigate this problem."
There is no issue adding individual users to the lync contact list, just if you search for a group (for example, Accounting) and this group is an easy way to add lets say 5 accounting associates to lync instead of individually adding each person at a
    time.
Any idea how to diagnose this?  In checking my Lync client version I get this:
    Microsoft Lync 2013 (15.0.4675.1000) MSO (15.0.465.1002) 32-bit
Part of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013
The server is Lync 2013 as well.
Exchange 2013 is used on premise if that matters.

    Hi KJSTech1,
To better understand the issue, I would like to collect the following information for troubleshooting:
    1. Group expansion is enabled and disabled by using the
    Set-CsWebServiceConfiguration cmdlet. Please make sure
    EnableGroupExpansion
    parameter is set to
    true .

  • Link to User's MySite on Lync 2013 Contact Card does not work

    Hello,
we're running a sharepoint 2010 environment with a configured user profile service application and a mysite host. we're also running lync 2010 clients but are planning to upgrade to lync 2013. the it guys (including me) have already installed lync 2013 client.
the lync server is also already on 2013.
with the old 2010 lync client, it was possible to click on a name from a lync contact card and this directed to the users mysite, which was great. to archieve this, we updates the wwwHomepage attribute in AD with the corresponding link for each user to the
    mysite.
now with lync 2013 it is no longer possible.
i couldn't find anything about this topic ...
any help would be highly appreciated
    kind regards
    Marco

I tested it in my lab.
    The same result with your.
    It is by design.

  • Lync 2013 Contacts - Remote users

    Hi,
Almost ready to roll out Lync 2013 but...
Most of our company is spread out across the Internet so we'll want to have the GalContacts files to download automatically to each user.
Currently I find that that remote users are not getting the GalContacts files, is that an administrative setting in Lync?
    Thanks
    Mike
Edit: When I monitor a connection in Fiddler on a remote computer I see no request for the address book like I see for those on the LAN.

    Hi,
External Lync users download Address Book through Reverse Proxy.
So please double check Reverse Proxy configuration. External Lync users will use the External Web Services FQDN to download address book, so please double check if you enter the correct External Services FQDN.
Also, double check if all needed SAN added in Reverse Proxy certificate.
You can troubleshooting with the help of the link below:

  • Lync 2010 Contact List Organization And Standardization With Microsoft Outlook & Exchange

    Hello All,
We are noticing some inconsistencies in regards to what’s being displayed in our Lync Contacts. When diving deeper into this, we noticed some users have modified "Full Name" field in Outlook contacts to names which they please then it replicates
    onto Lync.
We would like to standardize our Lync contact list using lastname, firstname format but the only options right now I am aware of doing this is making sure users don't have local contacts saved in their Outlook which we have gone ahead
and globally disabled feature "Save my Lync contacts in my personal contacts folder on the Exchange server" to ensure up-to-date contact details are collected from the GAL.
Is there anything else the group can recommend, as its creating a bit of a nuisance with non-technical users?
    Thanks in advance all!

    Hi JayJayTech,
You can run the following command to prevent Lync searches the contact information from Outlook Contact folders.
    Set-CsClientPolicy -Identy Global -ExcludedContactFolders "Contact;Contacts;Suggested Contacts,IPM.Contact"
    Best regards,

  • Lync 2011 - Contact List Not Working after Upgrade

I updated my Lync 2011 client that was running perfectly fine.  Once the update was complete the contact list area of the application is blank.  There is no way to add new contacts or groups.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the app with the update.  I am having the same issue.
I am an Office 365 user with a Mac running Mavericks.
    Please help!

    Hi,
The forum you posted is for Lync Server On Premise only. The issue is more related to Lync online, you can also post a question on Office365 forum for assistance. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Outlook 2013 contacts list missing

When I look down my contact list contacts are missing, I do a search and they are there but not on my contacts list?  I am unable to add them, gives me a message this contact already exsits.
    Thanks.

    Hey Remwhirl,
It sounds like you may have inadvertantly filtered your contacts. Try the following:
    Open your contacts folder
Click the View tab on the file bar
    Click Reset Current View
This will remove any filters that were applied.

  • Lync 2013 - Delegates are all of a sudden showing up in contacts list

All of a sudden, folks are seeing Delegates displaying in their Lync 2013 contacts list.
We never had enterprise voice enabled in our environment.  Recently, I ran Windows updates on the 2012 R2 DC's.
    Suggestions?
Should I set "EnableDelegation" to False so that folks won't see any Delegates in their contacts list?
    Thanks
    Ron

    Hi Ron,
Based on my understanding, Lync syncs the information from Outlook.
You can try running the following command to disable synchronization.
    Set-CsclientPolicy –EnableExchangeDelegateSync $false
    Hope it can be helpful.

  • Alias Field in Lync 2013

    Hello
In Lync 2010, there used to be a field called Alias (which is visible on the Outlook Contact Card as well).
We were able to store the Standard ID (SID) which is kind of a Unique number for every employee in the org.
Is there a way for us to make this appear on the Lync 2013 contact card?
Could a complete listing be provided of what fields can be made available? This is causing significant issues as an SID (Alias) is used in a lot of communication and we are in a habit of finding it on the contact card.

    Hi ShubhamGarg,
    You could install
Lync Server 2013 Resource Kit Tools
, and the Address Book Service Configuration tool (ABSConfig) is an administrative tool that helps administrators customize Address Book Service configuration in Lync Server 2013.
Click the link below for more information:

  • Add exchange distribution groups to lync 2013

    Hi,
Does anybody kows how to push directly exchange email distribtution list in to lync2013.  ( only selected list that contains country wise employee )
    Thanks & Regards,
    Bhautik Shah

    Hi,
You can add Exchange email distribution list into Lync 2013 Contact Card as Tab of “Membership”.
If Lync server have integration with Exchange server, you can change the value of TurnOffMemberOfTab to “0” with the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\common\contactcard if you use Outlook 2010.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\common\contactcard if you use Outlook 2013.
You can refer to the link below, it is for Lync server 2010 but similar for Lync server 2013:

  • Outlook contact not added Email do not show all information i Lync 2013 Client

I have seen if no Email address is added into contact personen I only get emty Card of user i Lync 2013.
When I add Email adr. into contact person and wait a littel then user get all information right i Lync 2013 user Card.
IS this right or should it also showing user and all information from Outlook contact Card into lync 2013 client Card?

Lync aggregates contact data from Microsoft Exchange GAL, Outlook and Microsoft Lync Server.
So you can see information from outlook in Lync user card.

  • User search from "Find Someone" in Lync 2013 client does not show contact availability

Running Lync 2013 Client / Server, when a user searches in the "find someone" field, contact names are returned, but the contact's presence status shows "Updating..." and never populates with the users presence.  If you then select
a name from the search and open an IM session with them, the presence data is there and is accurate.  I think this feature used to work fine.

    Hi,
Did the issue happen only for you or for multiple users?
Please enter the sip address instead of the name of the user in the “find someone” field to test the issue.
Please also run Update-CsUserDatabase on FE server then remove Lync client profile to test the issue.
    User profile path: <user profile>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\

  • No contacts in Lync 2013 client and not appearing in others contact lists

    Hello all,
I hope someone might be able to help out with this problem, I've been at it for weeks with no luck. I've migrated from Lync 2010 to 2013. All users have been successfully migrated and everything is working for them, except for one user (which i me unfortunately).
When I sign into Lync from any device (desktop, laptop, windows phone, iphone) I do not see any contacts in my organization, but I can find any of the contacts if i search for them. I also don't appear in anyone else's contact list, but they can find me if
    they search.
I have tried disabling and removing my account from Lync server, uninstalling and reinstalling the Lync client on my machine, cleaning up all the Lync folders and registry keys on my machine. Nothing seems to get me any closer to getting this fixed.
    I did find a discussion
here that is exactly the problem I'm having, but I don'e see a solution there either.
Has anyone else seen this before? Any suggestions or ideas would be very appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I am afraid your Lync account lose the user data contact list when you move user from Lync Server 2010 to Lync Server 2013.
Please try to move the user back to Lync server 2010 to check if the contact list is stored.
You can use the tool DBIMPEXP.exe to back up specific user’ data from Lync Server 2010 and import the data to Lync Server 2013 with the command Import-CSUserData which is introduced in Lync Server 2013.
Before you import the data, you need to use the command Convert-CSUserData to convert exported user data to the data format used by Microsoft Lync Server 2013.
    For the details, please check

  • Lync Contacts not appearing in Lync 2010 after user is moved to Lync 2013

    Good Morning,
Our company recently migrated all of our users to Lync 2013 from Lync 2010.   Most of our clients are still running the Lync 2010 client on their workstations.  There is an ongoing project where we are upgrading to Office 2013 as well.
When a user signs into Lync, clicks on their contacts, the list is blank. They see their frequent contacts and are able to search for people.   Some people are able to manage their contacts through OWA 2013 since we have the integration in
place. If they try to add contacts in Lync, they receive the message:
Cannot Add, Remove or move contacts or groups at this time. Please try again later.
I have tried going into the %appdata%\Microsoft\communicator directory and deleting the .cache and .idx and opening Lync again and still they do not appear.
Found this article:  https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2757458?wa=wsignin1.0, but we cannot role people back to Lync 2010.  So they will just have to live with it until they receive Lync 2013 and  use OWA 2013 to manage them until their office
    client is upgraded.

    Hi BrianDougherty,
I’m not sure whether this is caused by UCS, but you can test it by disabling UCS for a test user.
Run the following command and then check the result.
    New-CsUserServicesPolicy -Identity NoUCS -UcsAllowed $False
Grant-CsUserServicesPolicy –Identity “test user” –PolicyName NoUCS
    Invoke-CsUcsRollback –Identity “test user”
    Best regards,
    Eric

Can you add the contact by searching the SIP address?
Please check if the files GalContacts.db and GalContacts.db.idx are updated in Lync users’ profile folder.
I guess these files are not updated.
If this issue happens with several Lync users, you can copy these two files form users’ profile folder to replace the ones in problem Lync users’ profile folder to confirm that.
Try to run the command Set-CsClientPolicy –Identity -AddressBookAvailability WebSearchOnly, then sign out Lync for Mac and sign in, check if you can search the contacts.
