Lync 2013 conversation history

Hi All,
I had installed and configured (Lync 2013) DC, Lync 2013 and Edge server. My Lync user's are able to chat with internal and external user's without any issue. I don't have exchange or third party mailing server. Is there any way to save the lync chat conversation
history?
Thanks in Advance.
Irfan

By Design Lync obtains conversation history from Microsoft Exchange Server and displays it in the Conversations list so that users can view and continue their past conversations.
Hence and Exchange server or Exchange mailbox is must
However using the SDK you can have the history logged perhaps to database here is an Idea

  • Lync 2013 client not processing history spooler folder (conversation history)

We have been using Lync 2013 fully patched up to latest & greatest, along with Exchange 2013 for about 6 months now & everything is working
great. (I did a AD migration from our old parent company in the UK as well as migrated exchange from 2010 to 2013, all that without a hitch for the most part.)
the issue that seems to be popping up intermittently is conversation history. I manged to work around some of them for the most part & getting
them to process; with the exception of 1 user.
If he logs into another PC his conversation history works fine.
However on his PC it does not seem to want to process the history spooler folder in "C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]m",
there are 737 files in there (all of his convo history)
Now what i did & it seems to sort of work is,Signed out of Lync, I deleted the users Sip folder after backing up the history spooler folder, logged
back into Lync which recreated the sip_user folder; logged back out of Lync , copied the History Spooler folder back to the SIP folder, & signed into Lync.
This took 10 files out of the history spooler folder, & then appeared in the convo history; both on Lync client & Outlook; but did not bring
all of them in. I did some testing and if you log out, then back in, it processes a few more. but not all.
EWS & MAPI settings & all other Lync configuration information settings match a users with no convo history issues.
    So now the questions.
1)What could possibly cause what ever mechanism that processes the History spooler folder to stop/only process a few items during sign in? Also what
    is the mechanism?
2)Is there any way through powershell to force the synchronization of the history spooler folder?
    Thank you

so in some more testing i had check the history spooler folder, & there were about 700+ files.
as a note* (Upon deleting the users sip folder & logging back in thus re-creating the folder new convo's where saving. So i did "fix" the issue with no new convo's during my initial work prior to opening this thread.)
I then removed a good chunk of the *.hist files & only left convo's from this month. signed out then back in, 10 files processed. then did it again, another 10. did it again, & it did 4 then stopped. I noticed there were some files over 1 mb. &
remember coming across this post (Lync
not processing files over 1mb) so i removed the 1mb files & then logged out then back in. processed 10 more.
i then added all the files to the history spooler file with the exception of the files over 1 mb, & logged in & out about 70 times to process the whole folder. Now all of the convos are in Lync & outlook as well as new convo's being saved. However
i have a folder now with 130 files that are over 1mb that will not process at all..
so now i am trying to find some validity on the statement in the link above
"We did open a case with Microsoft and they confirmed it is a bug in the Exchange EWS HTTP stack. It
is supposedly under review by the Dev team, but my guess is that it won't be fix soon. The magic size is exactly 1MB or 1048576 bytes."
If that is actually true it sucks & is some B.S as it is nearly 2 months later & this is obviously
a major problem & not even a CU or PU has been released to address the issue.

  • Save locally conversation history in Lync 2013

    Hi,
is it posibble to save Lync 2013 client conversation history, locally on computer? That is when client dont have Outlook, because he is using webmail or some other mail client.
    Thank you,
    Ivan.

If you didn’t install Outlook client, you can also see history conversation tab in Lync main Window.
You can copy the message to your email. You need to do it manually.

  • Lync 2013 isn't saving conversation history in Lync, Saves to Outlook just fine.

So in my Lync client, I have the Conversations icon that has tabs under it for All, Missed, and Calls.
All of those tabs are blank in my program.  They said "You'll see your recent conversations here", but there's nothing there.  I do see my old conversations in Outlook just fine, but Lync itself isn't saving them.
What's even worse is that my Conversations icon has a '5' next to it and says I have 5 missed conversations.  I click it and the tabs are blank.
Any thoughts on this?  Most issues I see are when Outlook isn't logging the conversations so my issue is backwards...

    Hi,
    Please check your settings:
    1. On the Lync main window, click Options button, and then click Personal;
    2. In the Personal information manager section, select "Microsoft Exchange Or Microsoft Outlook" from Dropdownlist;
    3. Checked all checkboxes under this field;
    4. Exit Lync 2013 and restart it;
    5. Check the result.
If the issue still persists, please try to repair this Office program:

  • No Conversation History neither in Outlook Conversation History nor in Lync Conversation Tab

    Good day, people!
I use Lync Server 2013 and MSOffice Lync 2013 and also Exchange 2010.
All users in our company felt fine about their conversation history in lync.
A couple weeks ago it started: i created new AD Users - and their conversation history did not save. Neither in Outlook Conversation History nor in Conversations Tab in Lync. All checkboxes in Lync Personal Options marked as needed.
And I remarked that new users had no Meetings Tab in Lync and also their Register had less folders than mine. I think the reason is not in rights of access, because they are the same domain admins as me.
    Any suggestions, friends?
By the way! I have got a warning on that computers, which are not saving conversation history:
The description for Event ID 11 from source Lync cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

I thoght about that. And i figured it out.
I compared two users. And differences were in these Attributes (Attribute Editor Tab):
    msExchMailboxTemplateLink
    msExchELCMailboxFlags
    msExchMobileMailboxPolicyLink
But! Very soon i understood, that the problem is not in these Attributes, because both of these users could see Conversation History on another computer (it was specially created virtual machine).
Both of users are in the same OU.
Also, both of computers are in the same OU. Both of the computers have a clear install of Windows 8.1.
The diffrence only in installed software.
Now i'm checking the vary with Software. I'm installing the software to find out which of them perhaps prevent saving Conversation History. And i'll try ADSIEdit. Thanks for the cue, Baasky!

  • Chat history displayed correctly in Outlook, not showing in Lync 2013 client

    Morning all,
It seems like I have an un-searchable issue with many hits returning that conversation history flat out doesn't work, which isn't the situation here...
The backend consists of Exchange 2007 with Lync server 2013. Clients (a mix of Lync 2010 and 2013, XP and 7 respectively) have no issues connecting and the chat history works fine from Outlook, however, on the client, conversation history is not displayed
and we are just given the option to "View more in Outlook..." (Which again works fine).
Is the chat history not meant to be displayed within the Lync client or are there any options or boxes that I have left unchecked that could cause this issue?
I've checked any addons on Outlook that sound as though they might be in any way affiliated with Lync and ensured they're ticked to no avail.
I'll be happy to follow up with any further information if my explanation is a bit cloudy.
    Cheers.

The Lync client will attempt to connect to Exchange Web Services in order to display items like Conversation History and Visual Voicemail.  If it cannot connect to EWS, it will fall back to a MAPI connection via the Outlook client.  The MAPI connection
will allow chats to be deposited in the Conversation History folder and display presence information within Outlook and a few others, but the EWS connection provides a richer experience.
You can check how it is connecting by holding CTRL + right click on Lync system tray icon.  Then select Configuration Information.  You should see items for EWS internal/external URL, MAPI Information, and EWS Information.
Unlike Outlook, Lync does not use the Autodiscover SCP to locate EWS.  Lync relies on the Exchange Autodiscover DNS A record to be setup both internally and externally.  Assuming Autodiscover and EWS are working properly, the following are required
in order for Lync to connect to EWS successfully:
    - User's SIP URI and Primary SMTP address should match
    - Autodiscover.sipdomain.com DNS A record setup internally and externally for each SIP domain supported
    - EWS Internal/External URLS accurately configured on Exchange
Let us know what you find.

  • Lync 2011 for Mac not saving conversation history on outlook 2011

I have MS Office 2011 on my MAC. I have noticed the conversation history is saved on the MS Lync History folder on the MAC. However the outlook mailbox folder called " conversation history "  is not updated with this info. Any idea what could
    be happening ?
    OS : 10.9.5
    Lync : 14.0.9
    Outlook : 14.4.4
    MS Exchange server 2013.

    Hi,
For Office 2011 on MAC, the Conversation History isn’t stored in Outlook.
The conversation history is stored in the path: /Users/<username>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Microsoft Lync History

  • Lync 2013 Missed Conversations pane not showing all items

On Outlook I moved the missed call notifications out of my Inbox to the Conversation History folder.
I then changed the custom search criteria for the "Missed Call" and "Missed Conversation" search folders to include the Conversation History Folder as well as the Inbox.  So I still see all missed calls.
However,  On Lync, under Conversations,  in the missed conversations pane, I end up "losing" the missed calls moved to the conversation history folder and only see the calls in the Inbox.  Those other missed class end up in the Calls
    folder.
Is the only way to have all missed calls show up as missed in Lync,  is by leaving them in the Inbox?

  • Lync 2013 not saving conversations to Outlook 2013

I have several users running lync 2013  and outlook 2013. And randomly lync stops saving the conversation history to outlook. All office and windows updates are completed. Each user is on Windows 7 enterprise .
Here are a few things we have tired:
    full office repair
Uninstall and reinstall of office 2013, with the removal tool as well.
made sure users had owner permissions to Conversation history folder in outlook.
The only permanent fix we have found is a erase and re-install of the whole system. Any one have any ideas?

    Hi,
Have you tried creating a new mail profile in Control Panel?

And please make sure you have configured the setting to save conversation history in Lync Options as the image below:

  • How to get rid of thumbnails in conversations in Lync 2013

After the last update Lync 2013 shows thumbnails next to every IM in the conversation window. Is there a way to get rid of these? I couldn't find anything in the options. It takes up a lot of space and is completely useless for me, as admin has disabled
showing pictures in Lync anyway, so the thumbnails only show the gray-white default picture.

As far as I know, the short answer is no after the CU3 Lync 2013 client update is applied.

  • Lync 2010 and Outlook 2010 cannot save conversation history

I have a user that is having issues saving their conversations to Outlook 2010. It is isolated to 1 user and follows that user no matter what machine they log into. They have the feature turned on to save their conversations to outlook and i even see the
conversation history start to queue up, but it will not get sent to outlook. The issue 2 weeks ago for them and as far as i can tell nothing was done to their account.

    Hi,
Lync client save the conversation history to outlook through EWS, If the EWS is not possible it will go through MAPI. So please check the user's lync client Configuration Information, make sure the EWS deploy is OK and you can find the EWS URI.
You also can try to change the EWSFindCountLimit for this user.
    New-ThrottlingPolicy –Name LyncClientPolicy –EWSFindCountLimit $null
    Set-Mailbox -Identity usermailAddress –ThrottlingPolicy LyncClientPolicy

  • Does Jabber Client 9.6 have the option to save Chat history within Outlook 'Conversation history' like Lync does?

Does Jabber Client 9.6 have the option to save Chat history within Outlook 'Conversation history' like Lync does?
Any guidance/response would be greatly appreceiated. thanks in advance.

The latest release of Jabber allows you to save the chat you had in html by enabling EnableSaveChatToFile
But yes, IM&P requires a separate server in which to hold all the messages that go thru the server, this is for management purposes, not really meant for users.
Persistent chat will hold all the messages, but this also requires a separate DB server to hold them.
You're free to use any other XMPP client you prefer which has this capabilities on the client side.

  • How can I get Lync 2013 to "remember" the size of my conversation window

Each time I open a Lync conversation, the window size always reverts to a default that is too small.  With Lync 2010, a new conversation remembered the size of the window from a previous conversation.  How can I get Lync 2013 to remember the
size from a previous conversation?  I have a multi-monitor setup and would also like for Lync to remember the location of the last conversation window.  Lync 2010 remembered both the size and location.  I have Lync 2013 and Windows 7.

I believe what you're seeing is expected behaviour. The Lync 2013 client appears to remember the position of the conversation window relative to the Lync client itself. It seems like it is noting it's screen co-ordinates based on the clients location. This
works fine for single monitor, but ultimately means that a conversation window cannot remember it' location if it is on a different screen to the Lync client itself.
Regarding the window size - I believe this has come up before and is not something you can change either natively in Lync, or through registry manipulation.
    Kind regards
    Ben

  • Lync 2013. There was a problem connecting with the Exchange. Unable to load the magazine discussions.

Lync 2013. There was a problem connecting with the Exchange. Unable to load the magazine discussions.
Installed Lync Server Standart 2013, client PC MS Office 2013.
As the mail system - Lotus Notes Domino Server and Lotus Notes client, respectively.
Exchange is not installed at all.
    question:
1 What is the message: "There was a problem connecting with Exchange. Unable to load the magazine discussions." and how it is fraught?
    2 How can I fix this message? Cleaning the C: \ Users \% UserName% \ AppData \ Local \ Microsoft \ Office \ 15.0 \ Lync \ does not help
3 What are the disadvantages when using Lync Server Standart 2013 without Exchange? In principle, I put for Lync Exchange?
4 What are the advantages when using Lync Server Standart 2013 with Exchange?
5 Is it possible to work simultaneously Lync Server Standart 2013 + Exchange + Lotus Notes
    Thank you.

    1) That sounds like a strange translation.  But basically, it wants to connect to Exchange and it's complaining.
    2) You can attempt to go to Tools->Options->Personal and set Personal Information Manager to None, and in Lync Management Shell run set-csclientpolicy
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398300.aspx with the following options:
    DisableCalendarPresence $True
    DisableEmailComparisonCheck $True
    EnableExchangeContactSync $False
There may be more, I've never tried to completely disable Exchange features from Lync.
    3) No conferencing plugin for meeting invites, no automatic presence management based upon your calendar, no searching your Outlook contacts for new contacts, no voicemail, no conversation history,no unified contact store, and more:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj688098.aspx
    4) This is just #3 in reverse :)
    5) Depends on your goals, but the experience wouldn't be great.  You'd want to keep your contacts and calendar in Exchange and your email in Notes.  It would be confusing to your users.

  • Lync 2013- HTML pasted in Lync 2010 client not showing

After the last round of Office 2013 updates I get blanks whenever one of my Lync 2010 coworkers pastes a number from a web page into their 2010 client window. I am using Lync 2013 v 15.0.4517.1005 32 bit. Thank you

I have the issue mentioned in this post where I can't view html content that another person pastes into a message they send me and also can't paste content from certain web pages into Lync directly and have to paste to a text editor and copy it there before
    pasting into lync.
I noticed that if someone sends me content pasted from a web browser that I may see an empty box on my end rather than the content though in the history when viewing the conversation in outlook I see the actual text there.
For the issue with pasting, I found that the following html page when opened in Firefox 23.0.1 will reproduce the issue:
