Lync 2013 DNS records

Hello,
Have been working on my Lync 2013 deployment for a while and until today I am still not quite sure about some DNS entries, especially confused by MS planning tool DNS Report. Here is my setup:
2013 enterprise, 3 FE servers in a pool (lyncpool01.domain.local), 3 BE SQL servers, 1 WAC server in a farm  (wacfarm.domain.local) , Kemp HLB (cswebint.domain.local and wacfarm.domain.local), TMG server as reverse proxy and 1 edge server ( lyncedge01.domain.local)
in a pool ( lyncedgepool.domain.local)
sip domain name: domain.com
Please help to clarify, in "domain.com" zone on my internal DNS server
1) lyncdiscoverinternal.domain.com:
MS planning tool does not have it in DNS report. Should I point it to lyncpool.domain.local as a CNAME record, or 3 A records pointing to the FE servers, or point to the reverse proxy server external DMZ address?
2) _sipinternaltls._tcp.domain.com
MS planning tool says pointing to lyncpool01.domain.local, should I point it to sip.domain.com?
3) cswebint.domain.local and cswebext.domain.com
Should I point both to the VIP of the kemp HLB?
4) lyncdiscover.domain.com
Should I create 3 A records pointing to the FE servers, or one CNAME record pointing to lyncpool01.domain.local?
Thanks in advance.

Let me see if I can help you make sense of what you have:
1. LyncDiscoverInternal
You don't really need this record as lyncdiscoverinternal just will re-direct you back to lyncdiscover.
2. _sipinternalts
This should be in your internal DNS SRV records point to lyncpool.
3.  Are you using your Kemps for HLB for all Lync services and/or Lync Web Services?
I'm going to guess below without knowing:
cswebext = your external DNS A record for Lync Web Services connectivity point to your reverse proxy solution.  If that is the Kemp in this case, then the DMZ VIP.
cswebint = you internal DNS A record for Lync Web Services.  This would point to you internal VIP.
4. LyncDiscover
This should be an external DNS A record pointing to your reverse proxy, which is the same external VIP as cswebext.
Hope this helps,

  • Lync server DNS Record configuration failed many time

As i configure Lync Online DNS record in my Domain provider but it's goes failed many time .
Can you please provide the information regarding this issue.

    Hi  Singh
You may need to contact Domain registrar help desk to see the problem as they will be able to help you.

  • Lync 2013 DNS requirements in a multi tenant deployment

    Hi All,
We are planning to deploy lync 2013 enterprise in a two site (pool) deployment. Both the sites are separated by a WAN link.
Our primary SIP domain is xyz.com
    For site A, we have
    1) A pool name siteApool.xyz.com
    2) 2 FEs name siteAfe001.xyz.net and siteAfe002.xyz.net
    3) A edge for external access siteAedge
    For site B, we have
    1) A pool name siteBpool.xyz.com
    2) A FE name siteBfe001.xyz.net
Site B users will use the edge at site A for external access.
As per the r&d we know that following records are required for external access
    Access/webcon/av.xyz.com
    _sip_tls.xyz.com
Apart from that we also need following service URL records as well
    dialin.xyz.com
    meet.xyz.com
    admin.xyz.com
    sip.xyz.com
Our problem starts here and because we only manage xyz.net dns not the xyz.com dns (its is our public dns), which rises two questions -
    1) As both the internal and external users are going to use same service url records (dailin/meet/admin/sip.xyz.com), how can we make sure that when a user uses lync on office LAN the service urls will be resolved by xyz.net dns and will not get routed to
xyz.com (public dns) for dns resolution.
    2) As i told we have a two site deployment and we need common service url records (dailin/meet/admin/sip.xyz.com) to be used by user at both site , how can i make sure that when a user at site A ask for dailin/meet/admin/sip.xyz.com it gets routed to
siteApool.xyz.com and when a user at site B ask for dailin/meet.xyz.com it gets routed to siteBpool.xyz.com. We need such functionality to save unnecessary WAN traffic.
Please help me to figure out the most suitable design.
    Thanks,
    Mohit Taneja

    Hi Mohit Taneja,
    Some additional information.
About the DNS requirements, you could refer to the following article.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398082.aspx
About the network traffic, it depends on where exactly the user is hosted. Central site does not decide the media traffic . If user is hosted in site-B and organize the meeting , media has
to travel via WAN if you don’t have edge server in site-B.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Lync 2013 Desktop Recording

When I recorded my Lync meeting, it indicated that I was not doing any desktop presentations, but I was sharing my desktops as I was talking - doesn't it record my desktop as I'm sharing during the meeting?

I'd make sure that the PC that is recording the meeting is dialed into the meeting using Lync audio/video instead of dialing in PSTN.  Paul is correct - when you record a meeting, the entire experience is included in the MP4 file (in 2013).  We
use it all the time and it works well.
I'd be interested in the details of the scenario in which these results are experienced.

  • Exchange 2013 DNS Records

i have 3 domain and 1 Exchange Server for this 3 domain, so can some one guide me how i can configure DNS internal and External?
    Root Domain :
    contoso.com
    Sub Domain :
    contoso1.com
    contoso2.com
and also if you have document to how configure Autodiscovery for this all domain?
    Regards,

    Hi ,
Based on my knowledge we need to configure the split dns for your scenario.Because most of the active directory domain name and external domain wouldn't be same in lot of cases.
    Reference Link : http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2010/mobility-client-access/using-pinpoint-dns-zones-exchange-2010.html
    Root Domain :
contoso.com -  primary smtp address suffix would be - @public1.com
    Sub Domain :
contoso1.com -  primary smtp address suffix would be  - @public2.com
contoso2.com - primary smtp address suffix would be  - @public3.com
On such case you need to create a zone on internal active directory DNS for any one of the suffixes (public1.com,public2.com,public3.com).
Note : That forward look up zone creation in active directory is based upon the names that you are going to use for exchange url's ,outlook anywhere names and autodiscover .Because those names used on exchange should have to be resolved
    internally as well externally.
In external world you need to create three autodiscover records which should be like below.
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
Most importantly you need to have the names utilized in exchange should have to be available in SAN certificate.
Note : I have given some suggestions based on my knowledge anyhow we will wait for some exchange experts to review the given info and also to get more info on this query.
    Thanks & Regards S.Nithyanandham

  • DNS records to be created for Lync deployment (Internal and External)

    Hi There,
If I want the Lync server environment to work Internal as well from External in all the aspects. (auto-discover, meetings, AV conferencing, web conferencing, voice integration, mobility etc), please answer to the below questions and also their purpose please.
I'm not sure whether the answer varies for 2010 and 2013 version.
    1. What are the Internal and External(public) DNS records to be created for the reverse proxy(assume i'm using TMG servers), and their purpose?
    2. What are the Internal and External(public) DNS records to be created for Lync Edge server, and their purpose?

I'll try to answer as well.
    1) For the reverse proxy, you'll need to publish the following:
    External:
lyncdiscover.sipdomain.com (You'll need this record for every sip domain you have).  This is for client autodiscover.
external web services FQDN (You'll need one of these per pool, you get to choose the name).  This is for address book downloads, web conferencing, etc.
Meet.sipdomain.com (You can choose the name here, and have one per sip domain or one for the whole org).  This is for web conferencing.
Dialin.sipdomain.com (You'll just need one here, it doesn't have to be dialin).  This is for changing your conferencing/phone pin, resetting conference info, and general conferencing info.
For Lync 2013 only, you may want the Office Web Application server pool name as well for PowerPoint sharing.  Lync 2010 doesn't use this.
    Internal:
The external web services FQDN.  You'll need this available internally through the reverse proxy so you can redirect requests on port 443 to port 4443.  This will be used for mobile devices on WiFi.
    2) For the Edge server:
    Externally:
sip.sipdomain.com (you'll need one per sip domain) this is an autodiscover/multi use FQDN and should point to your access edge IP.
webedge.sipdomain.com (edge web conferencing, you can pick any name you like).
avedge.sipdomain.com (av edge, you can pick any name you like).
accessedge.sipdomain.com (you'll need a name for the access edge role, however you can just use sip.sipdomain.com and save a name in your certificate request).
    Internally:
edgepool.sipdomain.com (you can pick any name you want, it's just the name assigned to the internal edge interface.
If you choose to have a single ip for the external edge, you can get away with just an access edge name and/or sip.sipdomain.com

  • Lync 2013 android client fails to login bug when ISP overrides DNS

    Hello all,
I've noticed an issue occurring in the latest Android client (as of 3/9/2015) with internet networks where the provider resolves all DNS queries to an IP address (e.g. T-Mobile, Cox Cable, and lots of others).
Essentially, sometimes I have noticed my android client stuck on "Signing in".  The diagnostic logs show that the client is attempting to resolve http://lyncdiscover.contoso.com (which is not resolvable
externally), but T-Mobile is sending it into a search engine.  The app continues to try to connect despite not realizing that it really did not resolve properly.  See below logs.

Since DNS overrides by ISPs are a common occurance, I believe the app should properly handle this situation.  I installed an app to override my DNS and use Google's DNS servers, and the client connects fine.

    Hi,
Did you login Lync 2013 mobile client internal or external the company?
Did the issue also happen for IOS/Windows Phones or just happen for Android Phones?
Please try to check if the issue only happen for your mobile Lync client or also happen for other Android mobile clients.
If the issue only happen for your Android mobile, please try to uninstall Lync client and install the latest version from Android Market and test the issue again.
If the issue happen for multiple mobile clients, please double check the Reverse Proxy settings, if you use IIS ARR for Reverse Proxy, you can troubleshooting with the help of the link below:

Ok, I figured out that I had a partial misconfiguration, but the existing client behavior still leads to long delays on a variety of networks.  I had the reverse proxy forwarding into port 80 instead of 8080, which seemingly caused problems
during the second autodiscovery phase after the first timed out.   I have since confirmed that it's not just T-Mobile, but any such provider (e.g. Cox Cable, see below) that resolves all DNS entries.
    Essentially, the following is happening:
    1) Client attempts to resolve lyncdiscoverinternal first.
    2) DNS record resolves to ISP's website, because they resolve everything and will return their own page if the entry really doesn't exist.
    3) Lync client continues to try to connect to the ISP's address, and sits for at least a minute until it eventually falls to the lyncdiscover record.
From the below log entries, you can see that the login process is delayed a full minute due to the client being stuck on the lyncdiscoverinternal record!  Again, this does not occur on ISPs that do not catch all DNS resolution
    attempts, regardless of validity.

  • Lync Edge and Proxy server public DNS records port forwarding rules

    Hi All
I have question in regards to port forwarding rules for port 443 of simple url.
I have 4 public ip addresses.
1 edge server (4 nics , 3 running with different ip for sip, meet and dialin in DMZ network, 1 connected to internal local network).
1 proxy server (2 nics, 1 running with an ip which is in DMZ same as edge, and 1 connected to internal local network)
1 front end (lync 2013 standard installed.) connected to internal local network
1 office web apps . connected to internal local network
The question is that I am using 3 public ip addresses respectively on public DNS records for sip, meet and dialin(av) and using port 443 which has been set on edge server. So , I can use 3 DMZ network ip address on edge for sip, meet
and dialin (av) port forwarding from 3 public ip addresses as per in Microsoft document.
However, I also have a reverse proxy .Hence, my understanding is all public DNS records except SIP and port 443 should be pointed and port forwarded to reverse proxy ip address which is in DMZ network as it would redirect 443 and 80 to 4443 and 8080 to front
    end.
Now the question has been clear, if simple URLs public DNS record and port forwarding rules for port 443 should be pointed to reverse proxy server, why they need to be set on each ip address and port number in Front end server topology to edge server?
If anyone knows, please give a help how to set it correct and what is supposed to be a correct configuration for a topology lync 2013

    Hi George
Thanks for your reply. Attached is my topology which could make my it bit clear. You may see the public dns host record from the image. I set sip, meet, dialin , and owa 4 host records. The first 3 records are pointed to lync edge by doing a NAT with port
443 which is the same as per you said. However my understanding is they should be pointed to reverse proxy instead as for instance, I need meet.xxx.com with port 443 to be redirected to port 4443 through reverse proxy server to the front end. So when the external
customers who do not have lync client installed to their machine then we can shoot a lync meeting and send to them via outlook and they just need to click on join lync meeting link in the email to join in such a meeting based on IE. (Is my understanding correct?)
If lync web meeting works like so , then the question is why I need to set three SAME addresses in front end topology builder for edge and make them point to edge server instead?
    1. Access Edge service (SIP.XXX.COM) ---> I understand that it is used for external login lync front end.
    2. Webconf edge server(Can I set to meet.xxx.com which is the same as simple URL that points to reverse proxy?) ----> If I can set this address to be the same as simple url address that points to reverse proxy, why should it need to be NATed to edge
instead? TO BE HONEST, if I HAVE tested, if I set this url as sip.xxx.com which means to use a single FQDN and ip address with port 444 and points simple url meet.xxx.com to reverse proxy, it will still work to join lync meeting sent by
outlook.I DO NOT REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT this URL used for at this stage.
    3. AV edge --- same as webconf

  • Audio and video not synchronized in recording made with Lync 2013

There appears to be no forum for the Lync 2013 client yet, so I am posting this in the Lync 2013 server forum.
Environment: Lync 2013 Server and Lync 2013 32-bit client. Only one Lync pool. Conference call was scheduled using "Lync Meeting" in Outlook about a week before the call. Call recorded on a laptop that was plugged into our LAN with an Ethernet
    cable.
Problem: User scheduled a conference call with screen sharing (PowerPoint) and recorded the call. The audio and video are not synchronized in the recording. There is several minutes' delay, with the audio lagging behind the PowerPoint. The last slide
on the call was presented, the call ended, and the presenter ended the recording (I was present for all this and can confirm no user error in these steps); however, in the recording, the slides change before the speaker talks about it, and the last
couple of minutes are cut off.
Any ideas on why this happened? Web research has failed me. Thank you.

You may need to lower the recording quality as your PC might not be able to keep up the pace.
Go to Options in Lync client -> Recording -> Select 480p
    Then test again

  • What is best recommendstion for DNS LB for lync 2013 Edge servers

What is best recommendation for DNS LB for lync 2013 Edge servers ?. We have F5 LB for edge and want to decide if we can go with DNS base LB for Edge servers.
    Anil MCC 2011,ITIL V3,MCSA 2003,MCTS 2010, My Blog : http://messagingschool.wordpress.com

It will be better to Use Hardware Load balancing (F5).
If you choose to use DNS load balancing for a pool but still need to implement hardware load balancers for traffic such as HTTP traffic, the administration of the hardware load balancers is greatly simplified. For example, configuring the hardware load balancer
will be simpler as it will only manage the HTTP and HTTPS traffic, while all other protocols will be managed by DNS load balancing

  • Exchange Server 2013 internal and external DNS records

I recently installed Exchange Server 2013 and I've register a pubic ip too for exchange server. How can I create internal DNS as well MX record for my Exchange server to send and receive internet mails. It's my first time configuring exchange for a organization.
    registered domain name=====np.bbcmediaaction.org
    public ip=====202.166.212.221

    Hi,
For external mail flow, we need the following DNS records: MX records for the domain part of the external recipient, A records for the destination messaging servers. For more information, you can refer to the following article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676467(v=exchg.150).aspx
Additionally, to ensure external mail flow works well, we also need to configure send connector.

  • Lync 2013 to CUPS RCC - Record-Route signature is invalid

    Hi all,
I have a Lync 2013 environment and I'm trying to implement RCC with a CUPS 10 environment.
On the Lync side, I have run the following commands:
    $tcpRoute = New-CsStaticRoute -TCPRoute -Destination 10.10.120.54 -Port 5060 -MatchUri cups.domain.com -ReplaceHostInRequestUri $true
    Set-CsStaticRoutingConfiguration -Route @{Add=$tcpRoute}
    CsTrustedApplicationpool -Identity 10.10.120.54 -Registrar LyncFE.domain.com–Site 1 –TreatAsAuthenticated $True –ThrottleAsServer $True –RequiresReplication $False
    New-CsTrustedApplication -ApplicationID RCCGateway-1 –TrustedApplicationPoolFqdn 10.10.120.54 -Port 5060 -EnableTcp
    Set-CsRegistrar registrar:LyncFE.domain.com -SipServerTcpPort 5060
on the test user I have set
    Set “Telephony” to:
    Remote call control
    Set Line uri to:
    tel:<ext>;phone-context=dialstring
    Set Line server uri to:

I have not had any luck finding the solution to this as yet - and any suggestions as to what I have done wrong would be appreciated.

Hi Ben, thank you for your update.
    To clarify, the
device=SEP0123456789F is an example, you have to change it with the correct Cisco IP-Phone serial number used by your user.
I've checked every step of your procedure and I've not found any issue, I've used the same procedure with a Cisco CUPS 10 and everything works fine.
Please be sure to check this on Cisco:
    - the MatchURI need to be equal to the Cisco Unified Presence Domain
    - on the CUCM the CTI Account (default is CtiGw) nned to have CTI controll of every phone (Standard CTI Allow Control of Phone supporting Connected Xfer and conf) and Supporting Rollover Mode
    - it's important that the "Standard CTI Secure Connection" group is NOT associated to the CtiGw account (if it's associated it force the connection to TLS).
    Let me know.

  • Lync 2013 Edge DNS config understanding

    Hey guys,
I just set up our Lync 2013 frontend server, which is running fine internally. The Edge is runing as well, but I still have to do the port forwardings in the firewall and the external DNS configuration. But I got an understanding issue.
I followed these instructions. "Edge server IP as specified in setup wizard" is very clear, but what exactly is meant with "Lync
    Reverse Proxy IP"
Just to explain a bit the infrastructure, we got a Sophos UTM as firewall. In total we have attached 4 external IPs to the Sophos. For sure the external IP's on the FW are NATed to the 192.168.50.X of the external Edge interface.
    80.123.250.160 sip.mydomain.com
    80.123.250.161
    webconf.mydomain.com
    80.123.250.162 av.mydomain.com
    80.123.250.163 mail.mydomain.com and general stuff
So if I understand it correct, it should just be one
of the IP's which are connected to the FW, so I could just take the 80.123.250.160 or am I missing something?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Chris

The Lync Reverse Proxy IP refers to a reverse proxy such as IIS ARR
http://blogs.technet.com/b/nexthop/archive/2013/02/19/using-iis-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy-for-lync-server-2013.aspx that is a separate server than the Edge server and cannot be collocated on the Edge server.  It proxies web traffic to the external web
services FQDN, and simple URLs on your Front End server from the Internet.
If you only have 4 IPs, but are using a reverse proxy to NAT traffic to mail.mydomain.com, you could potentially also use this same reverse proxy but you'll need either a wildcard certificate or a certificate that includes all the names you'll need for the
SAN. If you're not using a reverse proxy and instead are directly transferring traffic to mail.mydomain.com, I'd suggest setting up an IIS ARR server for this purpose and using the same reverse proxy to transfer all traffic.
If that's not possible, you may have to use a single external IP for your edge (.160) and use another (.161) for your Lync reverse proxy.

    My Blog

My problem was with Lync Recording Manager crashing with details in the OP's first post. LRM would crash as soon as it started to process the .mp4 file. Uninstalling Citrix Receiver fixed my crash issue completely.
LRM starts to process the files in
    %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Communicator\Recording Manager\Temporary Recording Files
and would save them elsewhere when process is complete.
Another issue was that LRM would not for some reason process the files in one of the recording-folders in the above 'Temporary Recording Files' folder. You can get around this by creating a new Lync meeting with yourself, start recording, then stop recording
& exit LRM at about the same time. This will create a new temp folder to be processed by LRM. Delete files in that new folder, and copy files from your old meeting to the newly created folder to kickstart processing for the old files

  • Exchange 2013 CAS DNS Round robin Public DNS Record

    Dear All,
If I am going to use DNS round robin as CAS redundancy. How should I map the public DNS record? Do I need to map 2 public IP for 2 CAS server to the mail domain? THanks
    Best Regards,
    Elroy

    Dear Elroy
I am not sure about the success rate of your implementations but yes if it is round robin what you require you need add 2 ip addresses.
    Suggestion:
Why don't you implement a CAS with a load balancer and then you can map the Public IP to the one IP on the Load Balancer.
    Good Luck.
