Lync 2013 Upgrade

At the moment we have 2 sites each with one Lync 2010 server. We don't have any edge server and don't plan to have any as we won't be federating with any external companies nor want to have
the ability to access the Lync from internet.
Can you suggest the Lync 2013 design for High availability and Site resilience. Both should be automatic and shouldn't need any administrator intervention. Also the best pratice in regards to
splitting the roles.
Malli Boppe MCITP Enterprise Messaging Exchange 2010

Very simply, if you want high availability, in each site you'll need three (three is the recommended minimum due to Lync 2013 quorum design) front end servers with the HTTPS services load balanced using a hardware load balancer.  For back
end high availability, each pool should be mirrored SQL 2012 servers, two in each site.  These two pools will then be paired for site resiliency.  The site failover is not automatic, you will need to invoke the failover with a PowerShell command
invoke-cspoolfailover (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj205189.aspx).   The failure of a single server in a site otherwise and the reconnection of any clients would
be automatic.
I trust that if you're running each site on one server now, then those three should be enough.  For role splitting, it depends on what features you want.  If you want to share PowerPoints, you'll want to split off the Office Web Application role,
if you want HA, then you'll want multiples for the organization in a farm.  If you're running Enterprise Voice, it's up to you to collocate the mediation role, however I prefer to split it off for ease of troubleshooting.

  • Lync 2013 - upgrade OS from 2012 to r2

    Hi there.
We have two servers with OS 2012. One of them has installed LYNC FE 2013, and 2nd one has Edge server.
How to upgrade OS 2012 to r2? Just put the media and click upgrade?
    with best regards
    bostjanc

    Hi bostjanc,
Agree with others, Microsoft did not stated any information regarding this, but
in-place upgrades of Windows OS is not supported if Lync is installed on the server.
You’re not the first one to ask the question, please refer to the comments of the following article.

  • Office 2010 MUI in Finnish and Save and Send function not working after upgrading to Lync 2013 MUI

Problem is as follows. Used to have Office 2010, Outlook 2010 and Lync 2010, everything was working. People used it in Finnish and seemly quite a many of them used the Talleta ja lähetä (Save and Send in Finnish) in Office products.
After upgrading Lync to 2013 version, with Finnish language pack installed with it, the Save and send does not work in Office 2010 if it is used with Finnish as display language. When you try to use it you get a Mapi error and reason is undefined or something,
hard to say what it is exactly in english as the error message is in finnish. On those machines if the display language is changed back to english the Save and send works as it should.
    Any ideas?

The problem was caused by the Language Packs for Lync 2013 or Office 2013. Without them all works.
And if you want to just unisntall the 2013 lang packs, then you also need to repair install the office 2010 ones to make it work again.

  • Steps to upgrade lync 2013 beta version to lync 2013 rtm

is there way to upgrade lync 2013 beta to lync 2013 rtm
    jitender

    Hi,
If you are using beta product you cant in any situation to upgrade or to migrate to Lync 2013 RTM.
The main reason is, on the Active Directory there are some objects and value that are not supported with both version together.
When you will install and prepare your schema the beta version will stop functionality.
Another thing is that the beta version is expired not?
You can do something else and export your topology to tbxml file and using it on your new Lync RTM.

  • Upgrading from OCS2007R2 to Lync 2013

    Folks,
We are looking to migrate our OCS 2007 R2 Enterprise, to Lync 2013.
We are running AD windows Server 2012 R2 functioanl level.
We have completed the schema, forest and domain prep for Lync 2013.
I have a few questions that you  guys may be able to answer.
    1.)
Can we upgrade from OCS 2007 R2 enterprise pool to LYNC 2013 standard pool.
    2.)
Is there any concise documents out there that document how to upgrade form OCS 2007 R2 to Lync 2013.

    Hi,
Migration of all Lync Server topologies and server roles is supported. You can migrate from one topology to a different topology, including from Standard Edition server to Enterprise

  • Upgrading AD Server for Lync 2013

I have now a Lync 2013 infrastructure deployed on an Active Directory infrastructure based on Windows Server 2003 including the servers, the domain functional level and forest functional level. We are planning to upgrade to Windows Server 2012.
    My questions are:
1/  What are the impacts to my Lync 2013 infrastructure?
2/ Is there any documentation addressing the changes on the Lync Infrastructure in relation to AD upgrade?
3/ Anyone could share his/her experience?
    Albert

    Hi Albert,
Lync 2013 supports  a domain functional level of Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, or at least Windows Server 2003.
Hence when you introduce a Win2012 DC into the environment, it doesn't make any difference till you have the domain\forest Func Levels at Windows Server 2003.
Windows Server 2003 domain and functional levels of Active Directory are depreciated(soon to be removed)  in Windows Server 2012 DC. So if you plan to remove the Windows 2003 and raise the FFL\DFL then you need to consider the questions you have
    here.
    What Happens Next?
Another common question: what impact does changing the Domain or Forest Functional Level have on enterprise applications like Exchange or Lync, or on third party applications? First, new features that rely on the Functional Level are generally limited to
Active Directory itself. Regardless, changing the Domain or Forest Functional Level should have no impact on an application that depends on Active Directory.
An application like Exchange uses Active Directory to store its objects, or to perform various operations, none of that functionality should be affected if the Domain or Forest Functional Mode changes. In fact, if your applications are also written to take
advantage of new features introduced in Active Directory, you may find that the capabilities of your applications increase when the Level changes.
The answer to the question about the impact of changing the Domain or Forest Functional Level is there should be no impact.
    Lync 2013 FFL\DFL requirement
doesn't specify any additional features upon raising the levels beyond Win2003.
Just make sure you don't break the existing DC and have enough redundancy.
    Supported in-place upgrade paths
Domain controllers that run 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 can be upgraded to Windows Server 2012. You cannot upgrade domain controllers that run Windows Server 2003 or 32-bit versions of Windows Server 2008. To replace
them, install domain controllers that run a later version of Windows Server in the domain, and then remove the domain controllers that Windows Server 2003.

  • Upgrade VAMT 2.0 to 3.0 OR use VAMT 2.0 to activate Lync 2013

    Hi there,
Recently built a Windows Server 2012 server and installed Lync server 2013 standard. This is now running fine and I can install the Lync client on my machine and sign in. *as a side note we also have a Lync 2010 server but the idea is to decommission this
    once 2013 is ready.
I've recently discovered that VAMT 2.0, which we have installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 licensing server, does not like to activate Lync (or Office) 2013 via KMS or MAK keys. Our current Office deployment is 2010.
    My questions are several
    - Can VAMT 2.0 somehow be used to activate Lync 2013 (without Office 2013) either via KMS or MAK?
    - If so, is that the easiest option or would it be easier to upgrade VAMT to version 3.0, but still use Server 2008 R2?
    - If VAMT 2 cannot activate Lync 2013, can VAMT 2.0 be upgraded to 3.0 without a lot of effort, i.e. bring across all existing activations present on version 2.0 which we use for Windows 7 and Office 2010?
-Alternatively, can VAMT 3.0 be installed side-by-side with 2.0 allowing me to use 3.0 just for Lync? (I doubt it).
    Thanks.

I don't use VAMT myself, I only use KMShosts, KMSclients, and a small number of MAK clients.
I seem to recall reading that if you have VAMT2, you need to upgrade to VAMT3.0/3.1 to manage Office2013 products (but I can't find where I read that).
Also note that you should export the data from VAMT2.0 as a .CIL file, since you would need to import that into the SQL database which is part of VAMT3.0/3.1.

  • Client Version Policy: Upgrading from OCS R2 Phone Edition to Lync 2013

    Hey, everyone!
Looking at the settings in Lync Control Panel, the default OCPhone Client Version Policy is set to block anything older than 3.5.6907.*.
Now, I have two older Polycom CX700's that are running. In order for them to receive updates from Lync Server, do I need to temporarily remove that policy? I know I need to upgrade them to 3.5.6907.* first, so I guess my question is this: is the Client Version
Policy, just for signing in or does it also pertain to which devices are allowed to get update information?
    Thanks so much.
    -Eric

The client policy should only prevent your phones from signing in. Your phones should update fine being blocked.
I've updated CX700's out of the box (with ancient OCS 2007R2 firmware on them) using Lync 2013 and have not had to modify the Client Version policy.
Edit: I will add that I needed to install a specific couple interim versions of the firmware before I could upgrade to the latest (OCS 2007 R2 Phone Edition 3.5.6907.222 and then Lync 2010 Phone Edition Feb 2012 4.0.7577.4066) - I blogged about it here: http://www.lynced.com.au/2013/08/getting-that-out-of-box-cx700-from-ocs.html

  • Lync 2013 CU4 Upgrade

    HI Team,
Can you guys help me with Lync 2013 CU4 Upgrade. I would like to know the upgrade order? like in exchange cas - hub -MBX
    1. what is the order we need to follow for Lync 2013 CU4 upgrade? FE-SQL-ME-DIR ?
    2.  Do I need to upgrade all FE at once or can I do 2 server a day and 2 the other day and rest FE the next day?
    3. If FE are in different version will it cause any connection issue?
    4. I believe SQL update (Install-CsDatabase) needs to be done after all the FE upgrade is complete.
    Server details below.
    Lync Server 2013 Enterprise
    FE: 6
    ME: 4
    DIR: 4
    EDGE: 2
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
Agree with Gonzalo. I’d like to add one point: if you’re using database mirroring there is a requirement to remove the mirror for specific databases that need to have the schema updated, and then re-create the mirror databases after the update has been applied
    to the primary database.”

  • Lync 2013 Mobility Upgrade

    Hi,
Im currently upgrading Lync 2010 to 2013.
Is it possible to coexist Lync 2010 Mobility Users with Lync 2013 Mobility users?
I realise that the 2010 users will still need to use the 2010 client and the 2013 users use the 2013 client. Is it true mobility does not actually use edge and just uses the Reverse Proxy?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Each Lync Front End pool has it's own unique Lync external web services url. You can point Lyncdiscover.domain.com to either 2010 or 2013, but the response will redirect the mobile client to the correct external web services FQDN for their homed pool.

    Hi
The solution is to do a ‘repair’ install of Office 2013.  This will reregister the needed components and the popups will stop.
A repair install can be done from ‘Programs and Features’, highlight Office 2013 and click ‘Change’.  When the install wizard appears, choose the ‘repair’ option.

  • Lync 2010 upgrade to 2013, 2 domains

    Hello,
    I have following scenario:
We are having two domains, old domain ( domain1.local ) is running Exchange 2010 + Lync 2010 with single FE & Edge and new domain ( domain2.ads ), where we are currently deploying Exchange 2013 + Lync 2013. Two-way trust exists between domains.
Useraccount & computers are joined to new domain. Users have linked mailboxes to old domain, and they are using lync with old domains credentials. E-mail address that is used is in form [email protected], and the same domain is being used on new exchange
    & lync aswell.
Currently I have installed Front End, Edge & ARR as reverse proxy, and configured networks for them.
I also created a topology, However, I have not published topology yet, as I am not entirely sure what possibly could happen if I would do that.
There are some DNS-records missing on internal DNS, as i cannot figure, how I could add the SRV records without breaking the old enviroment, as users are using new domains DNS.
    So Question goes,
If I publish the topology, is it possible that the old lync enviroment could malfuction, and if yes, is it possible to revert the changes ? I tried to download old topology, but it cannot be found ( probably due missing dns-entries ).
Second question is that is it possible to migrate user contactlists etc to new enviroment, as the useraccount is going to change?
    Thanks In advance

    Hi,
If the two domains in the same forest, only one Lync Server environment should be deployed. You can deploy the Lync Server 2013 as another Lync Pool which hosted in the Domain 2.

  • Lync 2013 Web App Sharing not working.

We are having a problem with Lync Web App 2013.  Our external customers can open the meeting link and join the meeting without a problem.  Once they are in the meeting an internal user begins the presentation by sharing his screen.  The Lync
Web App just says "Loading..." for the external customer.  The internal presenter sees this external customer continually change from "in collaboration session" to "not in collaboration session".  The external customer
is never actually shown the screen share.
    Other notes:
-->We tried this from an external wireless hotspot and it worked fine, thus, it seems something in this customer's company firewall that is blocking it.
-->We also tried sharing a powerpoint (we have a functional office web apps server), which produced the same results.
-->When we used the Lync 2010 Web App (before we upgraded to 2013), everything seemed to work fine, thus I am concluding that the 2013 Lync Web App (since it has more capabilities) is somehow trying to use more ports or something.
-->Internally, the Lync Web app works fine.
So, I assume something in the customer's company's firewall is blocking some access to Lync 2013 Web App.  My question is:  what needs to be enabled both on-premise and at the customer's side to access Lync 2013 Web App screen sharing and if the
company (for security reasons) doesn't want to open extra ports, is there some work around to force Lync Web App to use port 443 for screen sharing.
    Thanks,
    Adam

The ports 1024-65535 * are used for application sharing.
You can configure the port ranges for Lync clients.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204760.aspx
You can’t use 443 as port 443 is used for HTTPs.

  • No users are being migrated to the Unified Contact Store (UCS) for Lync 2013 - Exchange 2013

I'm having difficulty getting the unified contact store to work on a migrated Lync/Exchange environment. Both servers have been upgraded to 2013 CU2, and almost everything appears to be working properly...except UCS.
By default the global CsUserServicesPolicy has UcsAllowed set to True. In that mode, none of the Lync users were being migrated to UCS, so I set the global policy to False and created a new Policy called "AllowUCS" and set UcsAllowed to True. I then
assigned that policy to myself and a couple other test accounts. Still, my contacts are not being migrated to the UCS after logging in with Lync 2013.
Other Lync/Exchange integration features are working properly. I have set up OAuth, and it tests successfully, and Lync integration with OWA is working successfully, so I know at least some communication is happening properly between the servers.
Here is what I'm getting when I run some diagnostics from the Lync server:

    Hi,
Please make sure the user has been provisioned with an Exchange 2013 mailbox and has signed into the mailbox at least once.
If the user logs in with a Lync 2010 or earlier client, or if the user is not connected to an Exchange 2013 server, the user services policy is ignored and the user's contacts remain in Lync Server.
Please also check the registry key on the client computer:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\<SIP URL>\UCS
If the user's contacts are stored in Exchange 2013, this key contains a value of InUCSMode with a value of 2165.

Though Lync will continue to work when you close the window.  I need to deploy the full 2013 client to several
    machines locally.
     Thanks.

    Hello,
Looks like you‘ve tried a hybrid deployment with Lync 2010 and 2013, right? This might be the reason why Lync 2013 keep prompting to choose your product. Lync 2013 will automatically identify the products that it found for your account which you used to
    login Lync 2013.
So, please try to remove any earlier version (Better to remove all Office 2010 suite) on your computer and try a fresh installation again. Let’s see the "Choose your product" prompt would appear again.
