Lync 2013 with Windows 8.1 unusably slow

Hi, I have a Windows 8 Enterprise (VL) laptop with 64-bit Office 2013 installed on it.  A couple of days ago I updated my laptop with Windows 8.1.
That seems to have upset Lync.  It has slowed dow so much as to be unusable.  For instance, if I open a conversation with someone and type something into the input area, my characters appear there with a 5 to 10 second delay per character.  For
instance if I type 'hello there', it will take between one and 2 minutes before all the text is in and visible (and that is not because I am a slow typist :)).
Connecting to a video conference just locks the whole thing up.  Which is a problem since I have just signed up to a training course which is delivered via Lync.
Only a handful of other people in my office have upgraded, but none of them have the same problem.  Has anyone else come across this?  Or have any suggestions?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office but it made no difference.  I have
also checked that my machine is up-to-date with Microsoft Update (both via WSUS and direct with MS).
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Kelvin, thanks for the response.
Before I saw your comments, I had made some progress towards identifying the cause.  It seems to be related to my sound drivers.  If I uninstall my Dell drivers
(an IDT driver, dated March 2011), then Lync works perfectly.<o:p></o:p>
The problem I then have though, is that my system no longer recognises my headphones.  If I go into the Sound settings, it does not seem to
recognise that my laptop has a single combined audio+mic jack plug – it thinks I should have separate ones.
Unfortunately, there are no more advanced drivers available on the Dell web site.
So I have Lync working again, but at the cost of being able to use my headset.
I will follow your advice and give the Lync 2010 option a try.
Andrew vR
I actually stumbled upon the exact same scenario yesterday. Clean installed 8.1 and Office 2013 on a Latitude E4310, and Lync is extremely slow/crashing. Also, the audio device stopped working. Reinstalled the audio drivers, rebooted a hundred times, repaired
the office installation, but still no go. Then I removed the audio drivers yet again, and immediately rebooted, and then it suddenly started to work again - with Microsoft vanilla audio drivers.
I have also seen on another E4310 which has been upgraded from 8 to 8.1, that Lync got very, very sluggish. A repair of the Office installation solved the problem there - without touching any audio settings/drivers, so I'm not entirely sure this is just
related to the IDT drivers.
We are also seeing similiar problems with Microsoft Visio.... :/

    Looks like resetting the headset/speakers to default settings has helped as well.

  • Microsof VX 3000 or 6000 Webcam does not work with Lync 2013 under Windows 8.1

    Hi,
    The problem is that i cannot use the Microsoft VX-3000 or VX-6000 with Lync 2013 under Windows 8.1.
    If i go in settings under Video i can see the preview from the webcam just fine, so it works there no problem.
    Wenn i try to enable my camera in a conference it does not work, i get an error: Your video cannot be started.
    Now, there are no Windows 8.1 drivers for the Webcam so i installed the latest Windows 7 drivers. Because of that this webcam does not work with apps, that is fine i understand the driver problem and the way the new apps work.
    But this Webcam works with skype under Windows 8.1 and it works with Lync 2010 client.
    The same Webcam works just fine with Lync 2013 under Windows 7.
    Is there anything i could do so that i get this Webcam to work with Lync 2013 desktop client under Windows 8.1?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    According to your description, it may be caused by driver.
    You can try to install the latest version of Display Driver to fix the display issue.
    Since there is no driver for Windows 8.1, I suggest you wait for updating.
    You can also post a case on Windows 8 forum, thank you for your understanding:

  • How to change the default window size display font size on Lync 2013 main window?

    Hi champs,
    Just a simple non-technical question: How to change the default window size display font size on Lync 2013 main window on Windows 7 desktop?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Did you mean change the Lync: Change the Default Font and Color of Instant Messages just as Edwin said above?
    If not, as I know, there is no natural way to change it.
    If yes, on the latest version of Lync 2013 client, there is a new option “IM” on Lync client “Options” list. And you need to change the default Font and Color of IM in the interface of “IM”.

  • Slow Push Notifications from Lync 2013 to Windows Phone 8.1 (dev)

    Hi , I recently configured our Push notifications on our Lync 2013 Standard server, but i'm experiencing very slow performance of the push notification.
    For example when I send IM from PC to my WP 8.1 phone the message is received after s few seconds . When I try another one right after the first one I receive error in my Lync client
    This message may not have been sent to LyncTest because   the server timed out.
    If I wait 60-120sec I can send another IM and I can receive it on the phone. Tried debugging with OCSLogger but it seems that there are no errors. Lync calls also work in random situations.
    Anyone experienced the same problem with Lync 2013 push notifications ?

    When you run Lync Logging Tool, check you select Mcx logging component for the Logging Options selection.

  • Lync 2013 external to internal IM is slow or messages do not arrive

    Hi,
    I'm building a Lync 2013 setup on Windows Server 2012. Internal Lync 2013 standard server with Lync 2013 edge server in a DMZ. No federation.
    Internally al users are able to chat, audio/video and conferance.
    My problem is that external users are able to sign in and start a chat with an internal user but it looks like communication is only working in one way.
    Example:
    User 1 is external;
    User 2 is internal;
    User 1 starts IM with user 2 and says "hi"
    User 2 receives the IM and accepts and is seeing the "Hi" messages from user 1.
    User 2 reply's with "Hi" back and that messages does not arrive at user 2. Some time's not at all, some times after a minute or 2.
    When user 1 is receiving the reply user 2 still see's the rotating dot's that the message is beeing send. and after a while user 2 receives:  "This message may not have been sent to User1
    because there was no response from the server."
    The situation seems to occures only from internally to externally and also with both users externally. I cannot see any error's in the event logs of the Internal or Edge server. De debugging tools is showing me error's like:
    Text: Message or one of its headers caused SIP transaction processing error
    Result-Code: 0xc3e93f5b SIPPROXY_E_TRANSACTION_TIMEOUT
    Text: Message was discarded by the application
    Result-Code: 0xc3e93ec6 SIP_E_AUTH_CANNOT_CHALLENGE
    Audio/video requests are also arriving at the other user but are unable to establish a connection.
    I can't really figure out what is going wrong. Certificates are correct, i think firewall rules are in place otherwise i have no communication at all i'm guessing. Routes also seem ok.
    Some help would be great
    Regards
    Pascal

    Hi,
    The internal user Lynctest is sending a message to pslijkerman who is connected externally.
    User pslijkerman receives the messages but the lynctest user keeps seeing rotating dots (processing message or something) after 1 minute or so the following messages is displayed in the Lync Im screen for user lynctest.
    ======
    This message may not have been sent to Pascal Slijkerman because there was no response from the server.
    ======
    This is some logging from the internal lync server.

  • Lync 2013 Edge - Windows Standard 2012 - Set-CSCertificate gives me "The buffer supplied to a function was too small."

    Hello,
    I'm having some issues during the installation of our new Edge 2013 server, specifically when trying to assign the external certificate.
    We have a Lync 2010 deployment already, and this is a step in the migration to the new version.
    On the 2010 Edge server, we have a Geotrust SAN certificate currently which it has been running nicely with for the past couple of years since we installed it.
    However, after trying to assign the certificate to the Lync 2013 Edge server, it just keeps giving me "set-cscertificate : Command execution failed: The buffer supplied to a function was too small."
    If I request a certificate from our Internal CA, it assigns fine and there's no problem - however I've gone over all the Subject Alternate Names on the Geotrust Cert and all of them are present, the certificate was exported and imported with the private
    key so that should not be the issue either. The common name on them are the same, and all the SAN's are there, along with quite a few others (Though I expect this should not present any problems.)
    We didnt have the intermediate Geotrust CA in the "Intermediate Certification Authorities" list, so I've imported that along with a current CRL but it still refuses to assign the certificate.
    Trying to find some more details on the error message seems rather futile - some more details to the error messages would have been helpful, but I'm hoping someone here might be able to give me a hand in diagnosing the actual issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Johan

    In our case we traced the problem to the version of the certificate template. We could not utilize a v3 template from our Enterprise CA. Once the CA administrator configured and granted us the permissions to a v2 certificate template we were able to successfully
    assign a certificate to Lync.
    The problems comes in regarding the cryptography provider of the certificate template. Certificates based upon a v2 template utilize CryptoAPI (Cryptography API), and v3 templates utilize CNG (Cryptography API: Next Generation) as the cryptography
    provider.
    Lync Server 2010 and 2013 it appears, do not seem to utilize v3 certificates properly. This article explains how to determine which version of cryptography provider is being used by for the certificates in your environment:   http://www.ehloworld.com/751.
    You may consider checking the template version of your certificate to see if that helps your situation, perhaps Geotrust can reissue you a v2 certificate if necessary.

  • Outlook 2013 with Windows 8 - no new mails visible in outlook

    Dear Sir/Madam,
    For the last 6 months I am using outlook 2013 in combination with windows 8. I have had many outlook issues already (especially with respect to syncing) which caused me to reinstall Outlook already several times. The last time I reinstalled outlook was 2
    months ago and today an old problem returned:
    Until yesterday my outlook is completely up to date and synched with my iphone. However newly received and sent emails do not appear in outlook. I am able to send emails from my computer, but after the email has been in drafts/outbox, it just disappears
    from my computer. On my iphone it synchs properly, so sent emails from my computer are visible on my phone, but not on my computer.
    What is the best thing to do?
    Please help.
    Many thanks,

    Hi,
    If I have understood you correctly, those emails you sent out from your computer (Outlook 2013) actually got delivered successfully, recipients received them. They just gone from your Outlook 2013 client, correct?
    What type of email account do you use (POP, IMAP, MAPI or Exchange)? Please try below steps to troubleshoot the issue:
    Try to use scanpst.exe tool to repair your data file. Please refer to this article on how to use scanpst.exe:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/repair-outlook-data-files-pst-and-ost-HA102749454.aspx
    Please try to load Outlook in safe mode and verify result, this will disable all the add-ins and macros:
    Press Win + R and type "outlook.exe /safe" in the blank box, then press Enter.
    If the above steps don't work, you may create a new Outlook profile using the article below and verify the status:

    If I have misunderstood anything, please feel free to post back.

  • Lync 2013 with Skype

    Hi,
    I do have Lync 2013 Servers (on premise) and I do have connected with PIC, I can chat with GTalk users and MSN users. I can also chat with new Skype users who have new Skype client application and which were connected their Skype account with Microsoft accounts.
    However, when will Lync 2013 users will be able to add ALL current Skype users (including those who aren't connected to their Microsoft Account). Also when will this Skype users be able to find & add all Lync users ?
    If never, what will be with those who never connect their Skype account with Microsoft Account.
    Are there any rumors or official news regarding to this ?
    -- Hrvoje Kusulja

    I didn’t see such news.
    In theory, you can’t search all the Skype users and Lync users.
    In the corporate network, you can access the GAL, then you can search all the Lync enabled user. But as an external user, you can’t access the GAL. So you need to add the contact by SIP address.
    If the receiver doesn't accept your invitation, you won't be able to chat with this user.

  • Lync 2013 on Windows Phone 8 cannot connect to Exchange via TMG

    Hi,
    I've found that the latest Lync 2013 client on WP8 cannot connect to our Exchange Server 2010 via TMG and the problem is related to autodiscovery. Based on detailed log analysis the symptom is the following:
    1. The client is sending a request:
    GET
    https://autodiscover.neostratus.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
    2. It gets a TMG logon form and then tries to POST here:
    POST
    https://autodiscover.neostratus.com/cookieauth.dll?getlogon?curl=z2fautodiscoverz2fautodiscover.xml&reason=0&formdir=9
    <Autodiscover xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/autodiscover/outlook/requestschema/2006">
    <Request><EMailAddress>[email protected]</EMailAddress>
    <AcceptableResponseSchema>http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/autodiscover/outlook/responseschema/2006a</AcceptableResponseSchema>
    </Request></Autodiscover>
    </SentRequest>
    The URL is wrong and it fails of course. This is the situation with Lync credentials and manually configured Exchange credentials as well.
    Other clients (PC, iOS) can connect fine and all test tools confirm that our autodiscovery setup is correct. I can POST the above XML using basic authentication to the correct URL and get a correct response. And the same autodiscovery process works fine
    when setting up an email account on the same WP8 device.
    Is this a known WP8 Lync 2013 client bug and is there a workaround?
    BR,
    Andras

    Hi,
    The lync client should be able to sing in Lync Server and just lost calendar information if Lync client cannot connect to Exchange. Please double check if the device is able to connect to the EWS URL.

    This is caused if the Online Meeting Add-in for Lync 2010 cannot determine the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) or Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) address of your Microsoft Outlook account. You need to contact your Exchange administrator.
    If you mail server does not support online meeting(such as a pop3 server), you can join the meeting as anonymous user through the meeting URL.
    You can also create a new profile to check the result:

  • Deploy Lync 2013 with XML?

    Lync 2013 is part of Office 2013 Pro Plus.
    When I first deployed Office I never bothered with Lync... we now need it.
    Same with Access.... for Access I use the following XML:
    <Configuration Product="ProPlus">
    <Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="no" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" /> -->
    <USERNAME Value="Authorised Used" /> -->
    <COMPANYNAME Value="XXX XXX" /> -->
    <OptionState Id="ACCESSFiles" State="local" Children="force" /> -->
    <Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="Never" /> -->
    </Configuration>
    Doesnt see to work for Lync though....
    In OptionState Id I've tried LyncFiles, LyncCoreFiles... but no joy.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Peter,
    I also haven't found the OptionID for Lync, could we use the OCT to change the installation state of features instead? The equivalent option in the OCT is
    Set feature installation states. And we can deploy the update via a MSP file.

  • Lync 2013 with SIP trunk with panasonic kx-tde200

    Hi
    My company has installed a panasonic ip-pbx kx-tde for multiline with 100 number range for telephone service.
    Now my company is going to replace multiline by sip trunk . It will still work with Panasonic pbx box just need to reprogramme to be able to connected to the sip proxy which is managed by internet service provider.
    For this scenario , would Lync 2013 voice work if I just add PSTN gateway which is the ip of panasonic pbx address to the frontend in topology ? Or I may need a mediation server as a must requirement  to make lync voice work?
    Thanks
    WenFei

    Media bypass allow a call to basically skip the mediation server once it's established and go directly from gateway (in this case the PBX) and the endpoint (the telephone handset or Lync client) More information here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398719.aspx
    By having this (if your PBX supports it) you reduce the load on the mediation servers. Before you go too far down the road also make sure that your PBX supports SIP trunks that are SIP over TCP (as Lync doesn't work with SIP over UDP)
    Sort of, the easiest way is to add the .com as an additional SIP domain in Topology builder, you will need to create DNS records for it (both internal and external) and you will need to reissue the certs with additional SANs to support the second domain.
    YOu will also need to update all the users to use the new suffix of xxx.com. So it's not a small task.

  • Integrating Lync 2013 with IBM Lotus notes

    Hi All,
    One of our customer raised the below query:
    We have Lync Online Meetings Connector for Lotus Notes that will work with Lync 2010.  You can refer the below article:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/hh527742(v=office.14).aspx
    However, partner is not sure about the same meeting connector available for Lync 2013 when we have Lotus notes email system.
    Partner wants to schedule the Lync 2013 meeting but don’t have Outlook client as Exchange server mail system is not used in their environment. They have Lotus notes email system.
    Question:
    Do we have Lync 2013 Meeting connector for Lotus notes?
    Please advise. Thank you for your time.

    ... Good question.  I don't have a Notes environment to test in, but you could use the 2013 client to connect to the 2010 back end to test.  I'd download the free Lync Basic client and see if you can replicate the functionality you need:

  • Lync 2013 blank window when trying to change Persistent Chat notification options

    I'm trying to figure out an issue that seems to be affecting a lot of our users.  The majority of our users are using the Lync 2013 Basic client.  For some people when they are in a Persistent chat room and they go under the options for that room
    and click on Change Notification Settings the window that opens up will be completely blank.  For other users it works perfectly fine for the same rooms, and for the ones broken it doesn't seem to work correctly for any room.  Has anyone seen this
    before or have any ideas what might be causing it?

    Hi,
    From your description above, it may a Lync client issue.
    You can try to do the following things:
    1. Delete Lync client, then also delete Lync User Profile, Registry, and certificate. The Registry Path is:HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
    2. Install the latest version of Lync 2013 client.
    3. Perform Clean Boot to avoid third party programs’ affect, check if the issue happen again in Clean Boot Mode. Here is the link of How to use Clean Boot:
