Lync and Skype federation

Hi Friends,
Can I achieve lync and skype federation in office 365 environment, if yes what all the procedures to follow?
Regards
Amit R Singh

yes, you can. To enable Skype integration with Lync users for Office 365, you can refer to the following steps:
Sign in to Office 365 portal with the global administrator account> click Manage organization-wide settings under service settings>click IM, meetings, and conferencing>turn on the external communication.
Note:
Skype users must sign in to Skype with a Microsoft account (formerly Windows Live ID) to communicate with Lync contacts.

  • Lync and Skype Contact problem

    Dear Support Team,
My company do Lync and Skype federation that I found the problem below:
    1. If user has used Microsoft Lync and federate with Skype by using Microsoft Account, it connected. but If Skype user is not Microsoft Account, they have used Skype ID. they shows Presence Unknown.
    2. Some Skype user that used Microsoft Account, they will not receive invitation. when Lync user invite Skype user.

    1. The Skype ID must be associated with a Microsoft ID in order to work. This is why you receive "Presence Unknown" with non-Microsoft ID enabled accounts. See here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn440172.aspx specifically:
"All Skype users wishing to connect to a Lync user must have a Microsoft Account associated with their Skype IDs and sign in using the
Microsoft Account.  This can be enabled within the Skype client."
    2. Do those Skype users have a Microsoft account paired with their Skype ID? If not, they won't receive an invitation, because the invite
is never sent to them. Can you give more detail on the users that don't receive the invite, is there something they have in common?

  • Lync 2013 skype federation approved

    Hi
I have got skype and lync 2013 IM federation approved on
https://pic.lync.com. My sip domain shows activated on its page. Now what next shall I do ? As I am still using self issued certificate on external lync edge interface, do I need to apply a public certificate so that I can add skype to my local network
lync client? I could not send IM to my skype account otherwise. It is coming with an error id 504 source 239. As I have sip.xxx.com.au, webconf.xxx.com.au, av.xxx.com.au which point to lync edge and meet.xxx.com.au, dialin.xxx.com.au, owa.xxx.com.au, lyncdiscover.xxx.com.au
which point to iis arr reverse proxy. Also have lynvweb.xxx.com.au as external web service. In my case, if I would need to apply public SSL to make my lync work with skype, do I have to apply a multi domain public certificate which up to 10 domain ?Would go
    daddy certificate be used ?
Also, if lync edge external interface certificate get replaced, it needs to replace certificate on iis arr reverse proxy server of its default web site binding with public certificate too?

Correct, you need public CA issued certificates for your edge external interface in order for federation to work.
Best practice would be to  have a public cert loaded on both your Edge and Reverse proxy servers, however in regards to Federation, it's your Edge that will be in use. So you don't need to load a public cert on your Reverse proxy (I assume you've loaded
your root cert on to any mobile devices or devices that connect in) but I personally would for the sake of completeness and to prevent any possible certificate trust issues in the future. (it will save you loads of headaches) I would typically only use an
internal cert for external facing when I am testing/labbing and then replace them with public certs before going into production.
Also if you haven't already, follow these steps to configure the provider in Lync: http://blogs.4ward.it/lync-2013-and-skype-federation-how-to/

  • Lync2013 and Skype integration

    The following steps are done:
    1. provisioning with Microsoft - done
    2. All the steps in TechNet dn440170 are done
But, Lync2013 clients are still not able to see Skype users and viceversa
    Question
    1. Is there anything else I need to do
    2. Is reverse proxy a requirement?

The provisioning can take up to 30 days.
You need to wait for the federation active.

Reverse proxy is not needed for Lync and Skype federation.

  • Cannot disable Skype federation by policy

    Hello,
All users are able to federate with Lync and Skype :-)
However some users must be prevented from federation - Lync,AOL,Skype.
I have created a new CsExternalAccessPolicy:
    Identity                          : Tag:FederationDisabled
    Description                       : Federation disabled
    EnableFederationAccess            : False
    EnableXmppAccess                  : False
    EnablePublicCloudAccess           : False
    EnablePublicCloudAudioVideoAccess : False
    EnableOutsideAccess               : True
But still users can add Skype contacts and federate with them by selecting "Add contacts not in my organization" and select "Other"
Is there a hotfix for that or is there a way that I can remove the "other" meny ?

Thats not supposed to be the case, once you have applied the policy you have created the user should not be able to see Presence information for Federated contacts, that includes Skype.
Try replicating the Lync servers (Invoke-CsManagementStoreReplication - make sure all servers show UpToDate : True). Sign the user out, closing the Lync application and then launching it again (to make sure the client is loading the new policy)

  • Skype Federation issues

    Hi
I have a Lync Server 2013 deployment with Skype Federation enabled. Lync and Skype users cannot IM each other however Skype users can make a voice call to Lync users successfully.
The Access Edge is secured by a public SSL certificate.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
From your description above, it can be the issue of the ports for the Edge Server.
Please double check the Edge ports with the help of the link below:

  • Lync Server 2013 + Skype Federation

    Hi Community,
I am unable to federate Lync with Skype. It has been a week since my edge server has been approved. I can call and IM the Skype account from Lync however the Lync contact is showing as offline in Skype and both calls and IM don't work. I have added the Skype
contact however in Lync It just shows up as Updating.
    Any Ideas
    Rich Ojel

Sounds like some sort of configuration issue, perhaps inbound? Here are a couple things to check:
Do you have TCP 5061 open from the internet to your Edge and vice versa?
Are your DNS entries correct, i.e have you created the _sipfederationtls._tcp.domain.com record and pointed it to your Edge servers?
Have you tried logging, using ClsLogging to see if there are any errors?
If I understand your issue, you're saying that despite the Lync contact not appearing online in Skype, it still receives IMs if initiated via Lync?

  • Lync 2013 & Skype Integration 3rd Party Cert. Requirement

    hi to all
I am a liitle bit confused about the Trusted Certificate (public certificate) need for the Lync 2013 server and Skype integration.
Our problem is trying to Integrate Skype with our Lync 2013. We configured Lync Edge and Lync Backendserver  with internal Certification Authority Certifcates ,we finished provisioning Lync 2013 with Skype according to the  "http://www.microsoft.ctom/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39071"
document and we received answer from Microsoft that we ıntegration  is finished.
But we could not make any call or add contacts either from Skype no Lync client.
Some  forums say that we had to integrate Trusted Certificates to our Lync Edge server  (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/lync/en-US/ec3142cb-179a-427d-909c-135052621043/how-to-deploy-the-federation-with-skype?forum=ocsmobility)
But I could not see in official documents. Can someone lead me the correct way to do this ?
    Thanks

You will need to change the external Edge certificate to a public issued UC/SAN certificate. Without a public cert the remote party (in this case the MSN/Skype servers) won't be able to establish trust and will fail.
You can do this by re-running the Lync Deployment Tool & Request/Assign Certificates
    Here is a walk through:
    http://www.digicert.com/csr-creation-lync-2013.htm
    http://www.digicert.com/ssl-certificate-installation-lync-2013.htm
Because you are replacing, you will need to restart your Edge services afterwards for it to take effect  (You can use Lync Management Shell and run Stop-CsWindowsService & Start-CsWindowsService)

  • Strange Skype Federation Issue

I have Lync 2013 with 1 edge server and 1 front end server. Everything is working fine both external and internal. I turned on Skype federation and was able to connect to a user.  From LYNC 2013 client (non-mobile) on Windows 8.1 I can see presence
from the Skype user, IM the user and make an audio call. From the Skype client, I can also see presence for the Lync us4er and IM that user. when I try to make a call the call never connects. Eventually the Lync client times out.   From a IPAD the
Skype can make an audio call to the IPAD which is the same user account as was singed into the Windows client.  Both the IPAD and Windows 8 machines are on the same network which is remote to the Lync servers.  It seems that any client running on
the Windows 8 machines fails for inbound audio only.  I tried to turn off the FW, and and AV and no dice.
    Any thoughts?

Not sure about the sentence “Both the IPAD and Windows 8 machines are on the same network which is remote to the Lync servers”.
Did you mean the clients are external users or internal users in another subnet?
The call process is little different between Lync desktop client and mobile client.
If both Skype users and Lync users signed in internally. The Skype may have problem to access A/V edge service. You can use network capture tool to check the traffic.
The following blog is for your reference about the call process between Lync mobile clients:

  • Skype federation: no icon, no new menu line

    Hello,
My Skype federation is enabled and functionnal. I can talk from Skype to Lync, and from Lync to Skype.
Nevertheless, I would like that my user be able to add simply a new Skype contact. I runned the cmdlets:
    Remove-CsPublicProvider -Identity Messenger
    New-CsPublicProvider -Identity Skype -ProxyFqdn federation.messenger.msn.com -IconUrl "https://images.edge.messenger.live.com/Messenger_16x16.png" -VerificationLevel 2 -Enabled 1
I understood it should provide in Lync client a new menu line with the Skype icon. However, I cannot see it in my Lync client. Why is that  ?
    Thank you for your help.

I just thought about it.... Would it be a limitation of the basic Lync 2013 client ?

  • Office 365 Lync Online / Skype For Business Journaling

    Hello,
From what I have found in my research, there is no way to journal Lync Online / Skype For Business IMs with Office 365.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.  Is anyone doing this by way of workaround or 3rd part product?
    Thanks in advance.
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

Thanks for the clear dialogue and responses.
I want upgrade from Skype to Skype for Business, BUT want to retain my Skype ID (which is printed on my business cards) and existing contact connections.
My situation is similar to Jim Carpenter's, in that I've used Skype for years.  I have it linked to my old Microsoft account that I'd set up for the old SkyDrive (now OneDrive) product. When I bought Office 365 Business Premium (includes Skype for Business), it necessitated creating a second Microsoft ID using the suffix [e-mail removed for privacy and security] to set up my new business account. That is a different login than my existing Skype login tied to the original MS account, and the new one not only accesses the MS programs, it accesses Exchange, through which I run Outlook calendar and contacts.
So, are these the steps I should take?
    Unlink my existing Skype account
    then uninstall Skype
    then install Skype for Business
I would guess that there would need to be a re-linking step of some sort, too, but I'm unclear on this.  Guidance?
Please confirm that is the best path.  Will this process allow me to migrate the Skype ID and contacts to the business app?
    Thanks much.

  • Lync with skype a SIP provider

    Dear All,
is it possible to integrate lync with skype as voip service for international calling ?

Actually you can. You need to use Audiocodes eSBC that has a native capability to integrate with Skye as a VOIP provider ann then integrate Lync mediation server with the eSBC and configure routing accordingly.

  • Facebook and skype notifications

I have a lumia 920 and can't get fb and skype notifications work.
The worked just after the installation of the apps, but then they stopped working.
The apps are fine, I just don't see toast nor tile notifications.
Any ideas? This isn't a borderline issue for a smartphone..
    Fabio

I'm not talking about FB chat. That is ok on my phone.
I'm referring to facebook notifications instead (comments, likes and so on):
Me tile has too much limited functionalities (for instance no groups notifications..), thus I installed FB Microsoft app.
In the app notifications are sometimes working. But most of the time I couldn't get them, even after a long time after their publishing.
It seems to be a facebook app issue in this case, but is it possible on a smartphone to lack social functionalities like this? I'm not talking about minor socials web sites, but Facebook.
The forum is plenty of topics describing exactly this issue, but no solutions yet.
    Does someone have any news?
