Lync Application and Desktop Sharing - Restrict remote access/Telnet

I have a customer and they are paranoid about using Lync application/desktop sharing which could potentially enable remote users from getting into their internal IT systems.  They are asking if we could restrict application/desktop sharing specifically
for appls with remote access capabilities (e.g. Telnet, etc.)? Anyone could share any information relating to this? Thanks!

We can’t do this with Lync Server natively. Maybe you want to vote idea at

  • Web application and desktop application?

    Hi everyone,
I am new to this platform.I have a basic doubts that whats the difference between developing application in flex as a web application and desktop application from programming point of view? Can we use same code in both cases?
    Please guide me....
    Thanks

    Hi and welcome,
The main difference between a web application and a desktop application is that web applications do not have access and can't manipulate your local system ( you can't open a window that displays all your local files, you can't delete, rename, edit local files and so on ). Obviously, this is just one difference, there are many more ( the best would be if you google for "web aplication vs desktop application" because the same rules apply for 99% if not all the platforms you can find out there ).
Desktop applications can have full control of your local system ( obviously, we have to take in consideration the platform we are using because since AIR is quite new in the desktop application field it is also more limited than other languages that have been used successfully to create desktop applications for years and year; like ce C# or C++ and so on ).
Another important difference is that desktop applications usually need to be installed in order to function where on the other hand, web applications can run in the browser without you having to install the aplication you are about to view on your computer ( in some cases, like of the Flash and Flex platforms, you only require a "special player" that can display the content you are trying to access... for Flash and Flex applications you need the Flash Player installed for your browser ).
So, before jumping into a project/platform you need to know your target. If you goal is to offer a fast, easy to access and no install required application to your users then you'll usually go with a web application. If your application needs to work with local files, maybe local databases, or it needs more control over the user's PC and so on, then you'll most likely go with a desktop application.
    With kind regards,
    Barna Biro

Sounds like a verification issue on whatever marketplace you bought PS Touch from. Did you try contacting Google or Apple to see what they say?

  • How to block file transfer and desktop sharing in Lync 2010 for Fedrated and Guest Users

    Dear,
Can anybody guide me how to restrict desktop sharing and file transfer for federated and Anonymous logins in Lync 2010.
I have tried to apply this policy through “Conferencing Policy”, but this gets applied to all users including corporate users.
    Please help in this.

    Hi,
As my knowledge, the CsFileTransferFilterConfiguration and setting in confercing policy are used to block transfer file between users. So if the policy is applied to user, the user would not transfer file with anybody. Since all Federation and Guest
Users access thought the Access Edge service, here is a update that helps to enable the control of the file transfer through the Access Edge service.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2621840
The update helps to define the file transfer policy between users on the local area network and users that connect through the Access Edge server in a Microsoft Lync Server 2010 environment. It helps protect Microsoft Lync Server 2010 deployment against
the spread of the most common forms of viruses with minimal degradation to the user experience.

  • SMB sharing through remote access?

I have a computer that I have setup on a windows network. I have turned on Windows sharing and it works fine when the local computers connect.
The problem is when I try to connect from outside the local network, say from a laptop on the road, I cannot seem to access the network using SMB.
I can access the computer using AFP, so I know that it is possible to go to the computer. I have the router configured to forward all ports to the computer, so it can't be a firewall issue.
My only thought is that in a recent update Apple has turned off the capability to access SMB or CIFS volumes remotely. Does anyone know anything about this? Or how I might be able to solve my dilemma?

Hmmm, thing to do I think is see if TCP Port 139 is actually getting through your ISP and/or Router/Modem... might try Port Scanning, or a Traceroute it from the outside.
Might turn on Logging in Network>Firewall>Advanced, to look for clues.

  • How to configure iMac and Airport Extreme for remote access?

I want  to view videos stored in iTunes on my iMac remotely over the Internet when I away from my home network.  My home network setup includes AirPort Extreme with Comcast High Speed Internet Service (16Mbs/6Mbps).  I use AirPlayit to support the iMac as a server and have the iPad 3 and iPhone 4 apps for AirPlayit.  I have no problem viewing my videos over my home network on any of my mobile devices but for some reason I am unable to configure my firewall so that I can access my iMac remotely when I am away.

Turning off the wireless on the TP-Link router does not make it a simple modem.
You need to configure the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode to operate correctly with another router on the network.
Open AirPort Utility and click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit
Click the Network tab a the top of the window
Make sure that the setting for Router Mode is "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Click Update to save the new settings
Wait 30 seconds for a green light on the AirPort Extreme, then power off the complete network....all devices....in any order you want.
Wait a minute, then start the TP-Link modem/router first and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way
Keep starting devices one at at a time the same way until the entire network is back up.

  • Lync Setup and SQL Shared Instance Issues

I'll try to make this short and sweet.
We are running a shared instance with non-standard port set up for our new deployment of Lync 2013.  When setting up the SQL server stores I messed up and didn't put the FQDN but it still allowed me to create the database via power shell and SQL aliases.
I wanted to make it right so I changed it to the FQDN, same server but with .domain added in.  When I went to publish the topology I received a WMI error:
Error: An error occurred: "Microsoft.Rtc.Management.Deployment.DeploymentException" "Cannot determine where to install database files because Windows Management
Instrumentation on the database server is unavailable from your computer or user account. To continue, you can resolve this issue, or you can specify where you want to install the files."
This can be replicated by attempting to install the database from the topology builder with automatic settings.  Using default settings:
Error: An error occurred:"System.IO.IOException" "The network path was not found.
I realize that that database has been installed but Lync Topology stated that it needed to be done again since I changed the FQDN.
Running the command in powershell: Test-CsDatabase –ConfiguredDatabases –SQLServerFQDN *sqlserver fqdn here*, it comes up with succeeded on the following
databases: RTCXds, RTCShared RGSConfig, and RGSDyn.  It fails on CPSDyn database due to “Login Failed.”
My main question is are Lync deployments supported on SQL Shared instances that use the Default instance with a non-standard port?
I'm elbow deep in powershell commands, heh, but what I want to know is what ones I should be running before I find out there is a database problem the hard way.  Help and insight is greatly appreciated as Lync is unfamiliar territory for me.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg425818.aspx
If you are using the SQL Server default instance for any database when deploying Lync Server 2013, the following firewall rule requirements are used to help ensure communication from the Front End pool to the SQL Server default instance.
TCP   1433  Inbound to SQL Server
In addition, the SQL default instance does not use SQL Browser for discovery.

  • New quantam router and connecting to works remote access

After upgrading to new router my wife cannot connect to her Remote Desktop. Any ideas?

    fossil wrote:
For Remote Desktop to work, there must an open port in your firewall for it to initiate the communication.  The usual port is 3389, but you can adjust that.  Here are the step-by-step directions at Microsoft: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/allow-remote-desktop-connections-from-outside-your-home-... . If the link doesn't work, Google for "Allow Remote Desktop connections from outside your home network".
One side note - the "home" version of Windows 7 and many other older MS Windows versions will NOT allow it to be  a target of Remote Desktop - they can only initiate a Remote Dwesktop session to control  another PC, usually riunning the "Professional" version.  I'm not familiar with the Windows 8,8.1 versions and Remote Desktop.
This has not changed in Windows 8/8.1. You need the Pro version to run an RDP server on the machine. Fortunately other solutions like Secure VNC and TeamViewer exist.

  • IPhoto album and desktop sharing

I am using iPhoto 5.0.4 and accidentally activated the share to desktop menu point for an album. It is now in my desktop preference pane and I can't remove it from there.
I know how to change desktop background colors/photos, that's not the issue, but I want the album (="iPhoto selection") to disappear from the preference pane. Neither the "delete" key nor the context sensitive ctrl key allows me to remove the "iPhoto selection". Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    PowerBookG4 1.5 Ghz, 1 GB   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    HI Wolfgang,
Open iPhoto and choose another album to share. You can just put one photo in it or just select one photo and hit the "share" to desktop button.
Other than that, I do remember this question being asked before and don't think there was a way to delete the "iPhoto Selection" from the Desktop pref pane left hand column.
Is there a reason why you want to delete it entirely?

  • Laptop and Desktop sharing address book when laptop is gone?

Hi - our household's main address book in on my laptop. We duplicated it to the iMac because the laptop is not always here.
I assume there is a way to share address books (iMac can see my desk on home wireless network) - but what happens if the laptop is not here. Will the iMac see whatever was there before the laptop left the house?
Will the iMac be able to make changes when the laptop is, or is not, in the house?
How do you share an address book?
    Thanks for anyone's help!
    Jon

well that is a quick answer. So. Can I use my mobile me account on both computers? (I am not the primary user on that machine, but I don't think it should matter). I assume I can, but if you anticipate any problems, I would appreciate your advice.

  • How to detect real desktop and remotely accessed(screen shared) desktop?

    Hi All,
On Mac Os the Screen Sharing feature is similar to Remote Desktop Service. Is there a way to determine whether the terminal where we are starting the application(our own application) is real desktop or remotely accessed (screen shared) desktop?
    For Ex:
I have booted(logged in) the Mac A sytem with user1 account. From another Mac B machine, i will login to user2 account of Mac A sytem using Screen sharing  feature. My application has to run only on real desktop, not on remotely accessed desktop(screen shared). So Is there a way(programmatically) to determine whether the terminal where I am starting the application is real desktop or remotely accessed (screen shared) desktop?
    Please guide me.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vinay

Have a look at the 'Son Of Grab' sample code, it shows you how to grab elements of the screen individually.

  • Remote access to a single application on a mac os 10.4 server (vmware)

    Hello all,
I need to give multiple users (all on mac's) access to a shared windows accounting application.
We have absolutely no windows servers in the organisation and i was wondering if it would be possible to load the accounting app as a vmware fusion (or parallels) session on one of our Xserve's and only give remote users (using remote desktop or vnc) access to that single application ..
I'm basically trying to "emulate some of the functionality of Citrix/Windows Remote Desktop on a MAC OS 10.4 server ?
Have anyone ever done anything similar ? Or have any hints in relation to solving this issue ?
    Thanks in advance,

To give you a direction to go in, you might want to look at the possibility of having one dedicated PC that runs the application, and use Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection to connect to it from the Macs. I think all you need is XP Pro to receive RDC connections. You might be able to use an emulator to set that up, but I don't know well how emulators handle RDC if at all. The problem is that you can only have one user connected to it at a time, but emulating it wouldn't do anything to help that.
    Hope this helps.
