Lync Client and OAB Outlook files?

Why does lync read/use OAB outlook files?

Bump.. Will someone please answer the above question? Here's an example of how I see OAB Outlook files being used by Lync:
In Lync I can search and find Distlists (To mass add Contacts) when I have OAB files in place. Once I delete the OAB files, Lync no longer shows Distlists in the search results, however, it still seems to find possibly users who have a SIP address.
In fact I have many Lync clients that do not find distlists, wondering if this may have to do with the Outlook client not being in cache mode, thus, no OAB file in place.

    Hi,
Please re-create the Outlook profile to have a try. If the issue persists, we can do the further checks in Exchange server.
Please make sure you have changed the OAB generation server to Exchange 2010 and enable Web distribution on the Exchange 2010 Client Access server:
Move-OfflineAddressBook "Default Offline Address List" -Server <MBX2010>
If all configurations are correct, please check whether there is any folder in the following path in Exchange sever 2010:
    a. OAB generation in Mailbox:
    \\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ExchangeOAB
    b. OAB distribution in Client Access:
    \\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ClientAccess\OAB

    Hi,
Did the issue happen only for you or for multiple users?
You can try to logon other Lync client on other computer with your Lync account as a test.
It may cause by the conflicts between the Lync client and some drivers or some third party programs installed on the computer.
Please check if you install Bluetooth utility on your computer? If yes, please remove it and test the issue again.
Please also run Clean Boot to disable thirty party services and then test again:

  • Voice mails aren't showing in Lync client

We have Lync 2010 server in Exchange 2007 environment.
I have the voice message in outlook but it doesn't shows it in Lync client.
    Changes made...
We powered off old two Exchange CAS servers and brought up two new CAS servers.
EWS is deployed and in Lync configuration, it shows the same "EWS deployed"
Conversation history folder, messages are getting saved.
    free/busy info working as expected.
Voice messages aren't showing in Lync client and Lync status isn't getting changed, when outlook scheduled meeting. But Lync gets changing the status to In call, Conference Call, In Meeting when there is a Lync scheduled meeting.
lync srv record are there in DNS
any other record needs to be created for this issue? I mean to pull the EWS info from exchange?
    Funnyghost

Lync requires Exchange EWS for this functionality. As mentioned above check if EWS has a status of "OK", if it doesnt check that Exchange autodiscover is correctly configured for the new CAS servers. This is a useful tool - https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/.
Additionally is is always worth deleting Lync sign-in info to remove the cache and force Lync to detect servers again.

  • 10.7.4 client and 10.6.8 server MCX issues

    Hello
I am testing a 10.7.4 client bound to AD/10.6.8 OD server (magic triangle) setup.
Everything server side is fine for 10.6.x clients whereas I am experiencing some issues with my test 10.7.4 client.
I have defined several network volumes to be mounted at login (MCX - OD computer group level) but - unlike 10.6.8 clients - the 10.7.4 tries to mount volumes even when it's offline (no network) and therefore it says the volumes are not available (error window).
If I bind the same client to a test 10.7.4 OD server, everything is fine, the same volumes are being ignored when offline.
Is there a reason/fix for such behavior?
    Many thanks for your help
    Ciao
    Carlo

Check the client and server log files for any relevent errors (Applications > Utilities > Console.app), and also confirm that DNS services are correct on both the server and the clients.
To verify DNS on the server, launch Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app and issue the (non-destructive) command:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
to confirm that the server's DNS settings are correct.

  • Lync client to Lync Mobility IM Session errors

We've had a few cases where:
User A PC locked, User A can IM User B from his mobile phone through Lync Mobility, and it sends to User B. If User B IM's User A back, User B gets an error (504). But from what I can tell, this error is a generic timed-out error.
With User A PC unlocked, he has to exit Lync on his mobile phone in order for User B to be able to successfully send IMs to User A.
We are on Lync 2010 server, using Lync 2013 client, using Lync Mobility 2010. This doesn't happen to everyone, (we have over 13k employees, but just a handful are experiencing issues).
It appears that Lync client and Lync Mobility are somehow conflicting with each other. I was able to replicate the issue one week, but the next my sessions worked out fine. My original thoughts were that there is some sort of setting on the mobile device,
but considering I had the issue one week, and the following week I was fine, I am doubting that to be the case. Also this is happening on both iOS and Android mobile devices. Anyone else having this issue?

    Hi,
As the issue only happen for several users, please update to the latest version for the issued Lync clients and then test again.
Please also update to the latest version for Lync Server 2010 from Microsoft Website:

  • Clarification about source and destination IPs for internal clients and Edge server

I just wanted to get some clarification on the correct traffic flow between internal Lync clients and the Edge server.
From all the diagrams I've looked at I was under the impression that if internal clients need to hit the Edge server to talk to external clients they should always do so through the Edge Internal interface which bridges to the Edge External interface and
out to the internet.  Specifically port 3478 from the Edge AV External interface to the internal clients.
We aren't seeing that in our environment.  When internal clients are talking to external clients we see the Edge AV External interface communicating directly with the internal client.  In fact we found this out because after the migration to Lync
2013 external users couldn't created a AV connection to internal users on either the Lync servers.  We saw traffic on 3478 being dropped between the Edge AV External interface and the internal client.  Once we opened that port AV traffic worked.
We never put this rule in until we introduced Lync 2013.  Lync 2010 didn't seem to require it.
    Is that the correct flow?

I would also really love to know the outcome of this but it looks like the thread is marked as "Answered" and it is not so.
I've been working with a troublesome Lync deployment in which internal users are having issues sharing their desktop with external and federated users. After opening up all the 50000-59999 range for TCP/UDP on the A/V Edge external interface things are working
much better, but we still see sporadic failures.
It lead us to start digging into the network traffic. We see that UDP traffic on port 3478 is being routed back from the external client to the Edge A/V's external interface, inside of the DMZ's perimeter, then directly to the internal client on the internal
network. It doesn't look like it's making a connection since the stream is so small, so I wonder if there is a design flaw in my topology?
There are persistent static routes on the Edge server that use the internal interface to route internally directed traffic over the internal gateway. Tracert confirms the flow, but in wireshark traces, running during successful connections, UDP port 3478
is still sending packets directly to the internal IP from Edge's A/V address.
We also see successfully connected sessions communicate on a different network route that we use to handle internet traffic rather than our Lync topology's route (the one defined for A/V traffic). The connection opens on ports in the 50000 range, but goes
over a router that we have not configured for such traffic. Is that possible?
Why is UDP traffic on 3478 trying to go directly to internal clients from external interface ?
It sounds like it's happening elsewhere... Is this a legitimate issue to be diagnosing? Has it been observed and/or resolved by others?

  • Calls not ending on the Lync Client

When Making a call through the Lync Client , you can talk as normal on the desk phone but when hanging up the lync client still shows the call window and after a short pause it says <person you tried to call> did not answer (an option
    to retry appears).
We are using Lync Server with a Mitel based phone system. When hanging up on Lync the call hangs up on the Mitel phone.
Please let me know if you need any more information.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Did the issue also happen between two Lync desktop clients or just happen between one Lync desktop client and one Mitel phone?
If the issue just happen between Lync client and Mitel phones, it may be an inbound route issue.
Please also try to update to the latest version for Lync Server and then test again.

    Hi,
You can try to change the Lync Profile name. After you do it, Lync will create a new Profile. The Lync Profile path is following:
    %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync
If the issue persists, please repair Office 2013 and then test again.

  • Lync 2013 Client and Outlook 2010

Hi, I installed Lync 2013 (FE and Edge server). I am able to talk but still I need to buy suitable certificate in order to access from outside. Rest of the network is as follow. SBS 2011 with exchange 2010, clients have Office 2010.
    Problems that I noticed are:
    - If in Calelendar there is appointment, Lync client shows still available
    - Lync meeting button doesn't react when pressed.
Is Lync 2013 client backward compatible with older office/Exchange or not ?

For presence show doesn't integrate with outlook, Verify that the
Lync Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office is installed and enabled in Microsoft Outlook.

  • How do I set up my iPad for outlook files and folders

I want to see and use, on my iPad, the same files and folders I have in outlook on my PC. Also I want any changes I make on the PC or the iPad to sync with each other.
    PC is running Windows 7,
Outlook version 2007, not the exchange version although I think I can get that by re-installing outlook and choosing that option.(I don't understand what exchange is but don't bother to explain it unless the solution requires using it)
I currently use Gmail for my email accounts server. They are set up as POP accounts with Outlook using a .PST data file. However, IMAP is available for Gmail. My brief past experience with IMAP and .OST data files was kind of a disaster so it isn't my 1st choice for this.
As I understand it using Outlook 365 with Microsoft's cloud and mobile app would solve my problem but I don't like clouds, 365 or IMAP (I may have to concede on some of those). If there is a way to do it through the Gmail accounts without any other cloud  that would be ideal since they already have all my email and I won't be spreading my personal info to other companies.
I do have a Drop Box account but I currently only use it for some well vetted specific files that I share with specific individuals.
I do not have any computer or network drive that is always on and might serve as a private cloud. That could be changed but then i'm relying there being no ISP or power interruptions which, of course do occasionally happen.
Obviously I'm being rather picky here knowing that I'll probably have to live with some things less than ideal.
I will consider 3rd party apps if they seem to be part of the solution.
Thank you in advance for any person/s that want to help me on this.
    hsvt

Thanks. I can change the forwarding settings in Gmail to be either POP or IMAP. That is quite simple. I just looked at those settings on the Gmail server and, to my surprise, both are enabled. In order for outlook client on my computer to receive IMAP emails I have to change the email account settings in my current outlook from POP to IMAP. I don't need to be using the Exchange version of Outlook to receive IMAP. I guess I'll do a little research tomorrow on Exchange so i can figure out what, if anything, it might do for me.
I glanced at the link you sent me and it looks like it might be very helpful - another project for tomorrow.
BTW: I hit "This Solved my Question" by accident. I meant only to "like' your response so you would get some benefit from the help you've given me so far. I hope I haven't discouraged others from taking a shot at helping me. I suspect there is more than one way to approach this and, as you know, my problem isn't really solved until I have what I need all set up and running smoothly.

  • Latest Lync Client with latest update in one setup file

    Hello,
We are building application using Lync SDK and we want to ship the Lync Client in our setup:
so we added the lync 2013 client found here to
our setup and its size 290 mb
after we faced some problems we ended up to install the update found here  and
    its size 86 mb
this makes the setup size bigger so our question is:
Where we  can find the latest Lync 2013 client with latest update files included instead of adding
a new update files to the setup?

Lync 2013 client setup is part of the Office setup program on the installation media.
Lync 2013 Basic is a downloadable client for customers who have a licensed, on-premises Lync Server 2013 deployment and customers who subscribe to a Microsoft Office 365 plan that does not include
    the full Lync 2013 client.

I've got many contacts in outlook and the behavior of them in lync is:
    1. if contact has not got email the telephones are seen and contact is seen as Telephone icon,
    2. if contact has got email (domain different as sip domain) the telephones are not seen and contact is seen as Unknown user.
    Is it correct behavior?
Lync client 2013 got newest update.
What should I do to make lync search all outlook contacts?
    Thanks in advance.

Open Lync option, click Personal, check the Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Outlook is selected under Personal information manager.
Call the contact for PSTN number with Lync client to check if you can call the number successfully.
