Lync contacts

hi ,
im pretty new in lync world and i have some questions
1.after i enabled lync users in lync control panel i managed to login successfuly but when i try to search for other user i need to write the whold sip name (name@sip-domain) to see the contact. dam it, when i try to search for the first or last name it
wont find..why??
2. I want every user that login in his lync client see all the contacts that are enable (by default)..is there a way???
3.is there a way to sync ad groups to lync ? or to create pre defined groups in lync control panel and then add them ?
thank you!

still i cant find it..
maybe i did something wrong with the creation of the group ?
i just created a new distribution group and added few members..
thank you for your patience
The distribution group means the mail enabled distribution group. That requires you to deploy Exchange Server in your environment.

  • Incoming caller toast not matching Outlook or Lync contacts

From reading similar posts I understand what I want is achievable but for some reason it does not work in my environment and I don't know why.
The issue is that incoming calls from an external number (lets say a mobile phone) do not match to a person's Outlook contacts, nor do they match with existing Lync contacts, to show a name. Instead they present as a number on the call toast notification.
    My setup:
    Exchange 2010 On Premise
    Lync 2013 On Premise
Numbers in Active Directory as E.164 format (+44... etc)
Numbers in Outlook contacts as a mix of E.164 and 'normal' UK (starting 0...)
Lync policy is indeed set to search Outlook contacts
When anyone calls in from Outside we get the number shown and nothing else, it seems it should match with AD if present and with Outlook if present, but it does neither. How do I even start to go about diagnosing this or finding the problem?
UPDATE: I can now seemingly get it to match AD numbers which is good, but not yet Outlook numbers.

    Hi,
As Lync show the true caller name match AD number, it may not the Media gateway issue.
From your description above, the number in Outlook contacts is mix of E.164 format and normal UK number. Did the issue happen only for normal UK number or also happen for E.164 format number?
Please change the number on Outlook to E.164 and then delete Lync user profile and then test again.

  • Mobile number and telephone numbers not displying in lync contacts for other SIP domains.

    Hi everyone,
we recently migrated Lync 2010 to 2013, we have 2 SIP boc.bh and scys.gov.bh and local domain boc.local.
lync users for boc.bh not getting telephone numbers & mobile number on lync contact list, same happening for scys.gov.bh lync users they are not able to see any boc.bh lync user telephone number and mobile number on lync list.
but old with lync 2010 all users able to see all numbers in lync list.
recently we changed user UPN suffix for BOC.bh and scys.gov.bh to respective users.
there is no any error massage on lync servers.
    manish yadav

    Hi Manish!
On the Lync Server 2013 environment you can run the Lync PowerShell command: "Update-CsUserDatabase" after 5 minutes run the command: Update-CsAddressBook
Please after that run: "Invoke-CsManagementStoreReplication" wait for Lync replication with command: "Get-CsManagementStoreReplicationStatus" when Status for each server is appearing as True finally apply the following steps to test with
    2 accounts:
Log off of the Lync client and delete the profile from:
    %userprofile%\appdata\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync
then execute the following command in the command prompt to add the registry that forces the Lync client to immediately download the address book:
    reg add HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync /v GalDownloadInitialDelay /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
Sign-in to users again to lync client and test between each other.

  • New lync contacts default to cell phone for lync call button (part 2)

The problem is that when a Lync 2013 user adds a new contact, and then tries to place a call in Lync, the default option for the Lync call button to that newly added contact is that contact's cell phone (if that contact has added a cell phone number).
The default should be a Lync call, not a cell phone number.
Others (thank you very much!) have answered very similar questions here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/lync/en-US/80fde051-1d3c-495e-aa32-63e93e5e4104/change-the-default-oneclick-audio-call-option-on-lync-clients?forum=ocsvoice
    and here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/lync/en-US/cd05243c-bbcf-46f4-9269-045d9c31867b/how-to-set-the-default-number-on-a-lync-contact-to-lync-call-instead-of-work?forum=ocsclients
So I understand one possible solution is to: Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity Global -EnableVOIPCallDefault $true
However, here's the odd issue I'm having and why I'm posting:  I ran Get-CsClientPolicy across three different, independent Lync servers (all for completely different orgs/domains that are managed separately) that I have access to, and the EnableVOIPCallDefault
is set to false for all of them.    However, this problem behavior is only affecting one of the orgs, the other two, when a new contact is added, the call button in the  Lync client defaults to a Lync call, not a cell number.
So why, if across three independently managed Lync servers, if the EnableVOIPCallDefault is set to false, would it only be defaulting to cell phones in one?  I compared the results of the three Get-CsClientPolicy, and could not find a logical pattern
in any of the settings that could explain.
The only thing that I can think of is that the org that is affected, the line uri is a 4 digit extension, not a full 10 digit phone number.  In the other two orgs (including the one that I am a user in), it's a full 10 digit phone number.

EnableVOIPDefault is only the default option for the first click-to-call for a contact, once a different number is selected it becomes the default and the policy has no effect.

  • Lync contact not updating

    Hi All,
One user in my firm had her number changed due to relocation. Currently her AD and  Lync Menu>Phones display the latest number. There is no reference to the old no. anywhere now. I can see that her Lync contact when searched from my machine shows
latest number, Checked on one of my IT colleagues machine as well- Its updated to new number.
However, there are 2-3 user's in firm who can see her old no. and new no. which is causing confusion. I asked service desk to delete sip folder so Lync downloads from contact list which fixed the issue. Now
affected user has come back with 2 more user's who have her 2 phone numbers listed.
Not sure whats causing this replications inconsistency, Any suggestions guys?

The old number might still be sitting on Outlook contact and getting added in to the contact card. Check if that's the case. If the number is there, have it removed and then delete the SIP folder and get the GAL copy downloaded again.

  • ABSCONFIG (enable INITIALS in Lync contact card)

    Hi guys.
Is it possible to achieve showing INITIALS from ACTIVE DIRECTORY in Lync Contact Card with tool: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2013\ResKit\ABSConfig.exe?
If it is, how could we achieve that?
If it is, will Lync search box also be able to find person if you type their initials?
    bostjanc

    Hi,
I test to use ABSConfig tool in my Lync 2013 lab and I find it is impossible to complete the function of showing initials from AD in Lync Contact card with ABSConfig tool.
You may need to custom your own Lync client, you can post the question on MSDN Lync SDK forum and more developing expert will help to verify if this can be achieved using Lync SDK. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Can my Lync contacts - see my contacts?

I use Lync 2011 Online for MAC.
In social media like F-Book I can see the names of my "friends" contacts.
I hope this is not a default setting in Lync.
    Is this possible at all?
    My Lync usage:
I never use Lync in our company. We are a handful number of people in one office.
But, I use this with our clients, at external organizations.
Can my contacts review/see my contacts? I do not want this! This would be really bad for my business integrity.

No, your Lync contacts will not be visible to your contacts in Lync.

  • Lync Contact Managment

Can someone tell me if there is some alternative contact management to Vytru contact manager for Lync? I am wanting to purchase this but can not get a hold of them. Any other suggestions would be great! I am wanting something that is easy like this
    software.
    Thanks,
    Baze

    Hello Baze,
That's a very interesting question. I have been through the same search process for a Lync Contact List Management solution for our organization and i ended up using Contacts Manager for Lync software from Vytru.
When we rolled out Microsoft Lync client to our end-users, we received a number of complaints about empty contact lists which badly affected how our user base use Lync and this was a challenge for our IT dept. We started to train the users on how to build
the contact list on their own in a number of sessions and created an online Lync Wiki with such information. After all users were not happy due to the time and effort it takes to build those lists. The Business Productivity Manager realized that the user-built
buddy lists are not consistent and thus Lync ROI was not manifested clearly.
We had to come up with a central and automatic solution for this problem to make sure we can build pre-set Lync contact list templates and push it to the end users. We tested the following:
    1- LyncAddContacts VBS. (Free)
    2- PowerShell Scripts. (Free)
3- Lync Contact Migrator by Xstran (Commercial)
4- Vytru Contacts Manager for Lync (Commercial)
    Scripts
Scripts somehow did some of the functionality we were looking for but was much of a manual process as well. We could not apply this to a large number of users and we could not make updates to the contact list like adding new users or removing users from
the contact lists. PowerShell Scripts are good but needed some work from our system engineers to work well with them.
    Xstran's Lync Contact Migrator
Xstran's solution would do some of what the Scripts can do but with an interface. No Advanced functionality.
    Vytru Contacts Manager for Lync
I really love this piece of software. It does exactly what you want it to do and has great features when it come to a full Lync Contact List Management solution. I worked with their team to understand how it fits our organization during the trial period
and they helped us adopt what they call their Lync contact list management methodology. It is a very easy to use software that enables you to build contact list templates, bulk populate it to all users, make updates to the Lync contact lists without having
to rebuild it (things like adding a new contact or removing a contact who left). You can also wipe a group from a user(s) contact list or wipe a contact from a user(s) contact list. Some additional cool features are adding images to users, and enabling
    them to Lync pools.
The Contacts Manager software is not free but it offers great value for the cost, i remember its pricing starts at $299 for their Lite edition. I'm not sure since we have been using it for two years now.
The guys there are nice and helpful, I'm sure you can get hold of them at Sales at Vytru Dot Com or by tweeting to them at Twitter (@Vytru).
Please let me know if you have any questions on any of the above solutions.
    Thanks.

  • Lync Contact Card - Organization details

    Hi,

I would like to know, is this information is static or created on need basis.
If its static and stored somewhere, pls suggest how to get the details.
Objective is to get the details of hierarchy level mapped. Pls suggest the way how we can get it.

  • Lync Contacts not appearing in Lync 2010 after user is moved to Lync 2013

    Good Morning,
Our company recently migrated all of our users to Lync 2013 from Lync 2010.   Most of our clients are still running the Lync 2010 client on their workstations.  There is an ongoing project where we are upgrading to Office 2013 as well.
When a user signs into Lync, clicks on their contacts, the list is blank. They see their frequent contacts and are able to search for people.   Some people are able to manage their contacts through OWA 2013 since we have the integration in
place. If they try to add contacts in Lync, they receive the message:
Cannot Add, Remove or move contacts or groups at this time. Please try again later.
I have tried going into the %appdata%\Microsoft\communicator directory and deleting the .cache and .idx and opening Lync again and still they do not appear.
Found this article:  https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2757458?wa=wsignin1.0, but we cannot role people back to Lync 2010.  So they will just have to live with it until they receive Lync 2013 and  use OWA 2013 to manage them until their office
    client is upgraded.

    Hi BrianDougherty,
I’m not sure whether this is caused by UCS, but you can test it by disabling UCS for a test user.
Run the following command and then check the result.
    New-CsUserServicesPolicy -Identity NoUCS -UcsAllowed $False
Grant-CsUserServicesPolicy –Identity “test user” –PolicyName NoUCS
    Invoke-CsUcsRollback –Identity “test user”

In our environment we have several users that are using Skype for Business, and the rest using Lync.
We have noticed that when migrating our users over to Skype for Business, the contact functionality that shows "icons" next to each person's name is now blank.
As an example, my personal icon shows up for me but none of my contacts show their customized pictures.
Lync users can see my icon and can see everyone elses.

  • Unrecognized Lync contact opens when sip address added in the outlook signature block

I have added my sip address into my outlook signature block. Why does an inactive contact conversation opens, if I click on the link in the signature? It looks, like my profile in Lync, with the same picture and name, but the presence cannot be recognized,
thus a Lync message cannot be sent.

    Hi,
Which Lync 2010 command-line parameter did you added in the signature block?
If you want to open the IM conversation windows of you when others clicking the signature, you can use the following command-line parameter:
    Sip:[email protected]
    Sips:[email protected]
    Im:<sip:[email protected]>

  • Lync contacts synced to Outlook do not go away (in Outlook)

Lync 2013 servers, Exchange 2010 servers, Outlook 2010/2013 client (doesn't matter which version).  When a Contact is created in the Lync Client, the contact is shown in the (now), Skype for Business Contacts in Outlook in a very short time.
When I remove the contact on the Lync client, the synchronized contact in Outlook doesn't go away.
I realized I can use OWA to get rid of the contact, but that is not an enterprise solution as this contact issue is global with all users.
Do we have something set up incorrectly, or is this by design?

    Hi rmr1r,
No, it is not by design.
In order to handle Exchange contact sync, Lync client needs to connect Exchange through EWS.
So if the EWS connection is established, the feature should work.
In your case, it does not seem like a configuration issue.
If you do not apply the latest updates for the Servers(Exchange & Lync Server) and clients (Lync 2013 & Outlook 2010/2013) , I suggest you should try it.

  • Duplicate Lync Contacts on Samsung S3

I have one user in our organization that every couple of weeks, has thousands of duplicates show up on her S3.  The most we've run into was 8k duplicates of the same contact.  To fix this so far we have logged into the light version of OWA and
deleted them 100 at a time.   This is not a long term solution.  The below thread makes it sound like I'm turning Sync if off for the whole organization which I cannot do.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/lync/en-US/78807060-923f-4425-a85f-883dafd1a393/lync-duplicate-contacts-sync-from-outlook?forum=ocsclients.  If I am reading it wrong, please let me know.
We are running Exchange and Lync 2010, and Outlook and Lync Client 2013 patched up to the latest version.   Back end and front end are all the latest version.   The android version on the S3 is (4.4.2).
This link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2916650 seems to suggest Microsoft thinks they've fixed it, but it has not helped for us as we already have the latest versions installed.  We're above
these version numbers on both client and server.
If there is any other information you need please let me know.  I'm sure I left something out.

That's odd that it's just that user.
I believe you're referring to the EnableExchangeContactSync setting in the above article, if so, please run this:
    Get-CsClientPolicy | fl Identity, EnableExchangeContactSync
If this is set to true and you want to disable this for a single user, you can create a new client policy, and grant the policy to a single user:
New-CsClientPolicy -identity DisableContactSync -EnableExchangeContactSync $falseGrant-CsClientPolicy -Identity "Ken Myer" -PolicyName DisableContactSync
