AD stored user Photos do not display in Lync for Mac 2011
I'm using Lync for Mac 2011 14.0.9 and the my user photo as well as the photos of other users who are using photos stored in our AD do not display. This behaviour has been occurring at least since 14.0.5. The behaviour occurs regardless of whether
I sign in using Kerberos or name / Password. This behaviour is common for all our Mac lync users. The only photos that display are ones from windows lync users that have chosen to use a photo that is stored on the internet somewhere.
The Lync for Mac 2011 client is running against Lync Server 2010 and Exchange 2010 servers.
I also have the common problem that I cannot search the global address book for lync users. Maybe this is related but none of the reports I've seen about the address book search have mentioned anything about photos not displaying.
Anyone Experience similar issues or know where I could start to find the problem with the contacts display? It used to work correctly way back in 14.0.2 and subsequently an update around 14.0.5 killed the features for me.
Oh and the Mac is running OSX 10.9 but the issues also occurred in OSX 10.8
Thanks!Hi,
Did you choose “Show a picture from a web address” on Windows Lync 2010 client? If yes, on Windows Lync 2010 client, choose “Default corporate picture” instead of “Show a picture from a web address”. Then open Lync 2011 on Mac computer to test the issue.
The choose will sync to all Lync clients for the same Lync account.

Lync for Mac 2011- Missing Certificates
I updated my Lync for Mac 2011 and I haven't been able to log in since. If I delete Lync and reinstall without the latest update (14.0.1) then at least I can see Lync but I can't log in. It says "Lync was unable to sing in. Please verify
your logon credentials and try again. If the problem continues, please contact your support team." We are on Office365 in our office and I'm the only one that seems to be missing my certificate in the keychain. Everyone else is having
no problem with Lync.
If I run the update (to 14.0.7) then Lync doesn't even open (this is reproducable every time I do this uninstall, reinstall, update sequence), I just get a big fail window that says the following:

I've checked out all the forums and walked through some of the steps and I think I figured out my issue: I have NO certificate in my keychain whatsoever; Known or unknown. My account/system administrator here is unsure how to get me a certificate because
we use Office 365 and he says when I install Lync or try to log in it should be giving me a new certificate. Does anyone know how to get me a certificate? Or know how my administrator will get it to install a new certificate? If your OSX filesystem is formatted as: Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) then the Lync 14.0.7 upgrade will immediately crash. You need to follow the instructions
in the blog post referenced below:
http://preston4tw.blogspot.com.au/2013/12/microsoft-lync-2011-for-mac-1407-bug.html
This will fix the immediate crash and if your Lync worked before the upgrade to 14.0.7 it should work again. If you have certificate problems then this would not be the only
fix required. -
QoS application for Lync for Mac 2011 clients
Hi guys,
I'm deploying Lync 2013 at a customer site. We'll be applying QoS by enforcing static port ranges within Lync (CsConferencingConfiguration), and applying ACLs on the network equipment and dropping the various Lync modalities into the relevant QoS queue,
pretty standard.
Quick question. What's the expected behaviour for the Lync for Mac 2011 client. Will it honour the port ranges as defined on the Lync server conferencing configuration? Can't seem to find the answer anywhere online or in the forums.
2nd question - does anyone know what the meaning of the following command:
Set-CsMediaConfiguration -EnableQoS $True
According to the TechNet
article titled Enabling QoS for devices that are not based on Windows, it sounds like this command has some role to play in enabling QoS for non-Windows devices... just wondering if that includes Mac OS. Again, information is sketchy
on this.
Cheers, James.
James FrostOne way you can check is simply by running a WireShark capture on a Windows endpoint. Either run a capture on the Mediation server to sniff a PSTN call, or as RTP traffic is point to point in a two-party call you can just call a Windows PC from the
Mac. Look for the DSCP section in the Internet Protocol area as shown in this non-Lync article:
http://conceptsfortheroad.com/2012/06/how-to-verify-dscp-value-in-not-being-stripped/
Or play with this filter "ip.dsfield.dscp == 46" to see if something is being sent at all.
Hopefully someone has done a deep dive and will chime in, but I'd love to see your results!

Lync for Mac 2011 does not update Presence properly.
Hello all,
I work in a Enterprise environment, we run Active Directory and bind our Macs to the domain. We use Lync for Mac, and I've noticed that on the Mac clients, the user status does not update accordingly. When my users are in a conference call, it shows
available, etc. It works fine on a Windows machine with that same user.
If the event is on the Outlook calendar, sometimes it will show them as away during that time period, but it does not seem to update when on the phone/in a meeting, etc.
Any advice would be appreciated, my user is on Mac OSX 10.9.3 and Lync 14.0.8.
Thank you,
MichaelWe are seeing the exact same thing at our company. A hundred or more Macs all with broken presence.
Its issues like this that have us looking at Jabber now - Cisco doesn't seem to have buggy OS X software like Microsoft. That will be 40,000+ seats lost due to this and other issues. Maybe if enough hit MS in their pocketbook
they will start paying more attention to Macs.. or at least test them before rolling out software.
Note a few things regarding our setup:
1. Our Lync is on-prem 2010 and 2013 mix
2. Our email is in 365
3. We are using ADFS and FIM for SSO, Dirsync.
4. We do not domain join our Macs. (back when Lion wrecked all our domain joined accounts we stopped with that foolish practice)
It worked with previous versions of Lync 2011.
It works for zero Lync 2011 users. Lync 2013 on-prem domain joined machines work. We see the same thing where a Mac users also logged into 2013 on a Windows machine will help update the Lync 2011 client... but its not an acceptable work-around.
I suspect its having difficulties with the external cert. -
Hi All,
Having an issue logging into my Office 365 Lync service. I have on-site exchange and I'm a bit confused about how to proceed in terms of what goes where:
Email Address: [email protected]
Office 365 Address: [email protected]
Now, on the PC I've just punched in my Office 365 address and password and it's worked fine, however Lync for Mac asks for both an email address an User ID. Using Lyn 14.0.7 on OS X Mavericks.
Any help on getting me logged in would be much appreciated!According to this situation, your account status and the Lync Online service should be fine. Based on my experience, this issue might be related to the Lync client or the environment of the machine.
To narrow down the cause, would you mind performing some steps to see if the issue persists? Please see the following:
1. Try to sign in to Lync by using an incorrect sign-in address which you know won’t work. For example, \EmailAddress @contoso.com. After the sign-in fails, please use the correct sign-in address.
2. Clear cached data
First, delete the following folders:
Users/Home Folder/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.Lync
Users/Home Folder/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Microsoft Lync History
3. If the certificates for Lync is corrupted, please delete it. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Open the Keychain Access certificate management utility. To do this, in Finder, click
Applications, click Utilities, and then click
Keychain Access. Or, search for Keychain Access by using Spotlight.
b. In the left pane, click login, and then click
Certificates.
c. In the right pane, find a certificate that's named
Unknown or Communications Server, select it, and then delete it.
Note You may have to unlock your keychain by using your password.
d. Close Keychain Access.
e. Restart Lync for Mac.

We installed Yosemite on a test machine to check for problems. Office 2011 for Mac ran and still does run fine on that machine with Yosemite.
As a result we installed Yosemite on our main machines. At the same time we updated Office for Mac 2011 using the latest update 14.4.7. It was at this point that Office started crashing every time a document was opened.
Solution that worked for us.
1 Using Font Book (comes with your Mac) we removed all duplicate fonts. We selected the automatically remove option.
2 Restart computer.
3 Shut down computer.
4 Restart computer in 'safe boot' to do this:
a) Shut down the computer.
b) Press the power button.
c) Immediately after hearing start-up tone, hold down SHIFT key.
d) Release SHIFT key after Apple logo and progress indicator appears.
e) Once computer has opened, restart the computer without holding down any keys.
5 Hopefully all should be ok now. Your machine might run a little slow for a while as it rebuilds caches etc but all ours were back at full speed after a few minutes.
Best Wishes

Lync for Mac 2011 14.0.10 error
Since upgrading to the latest version of Lync for Mac (14.0.10) I keep getting the popup "Credentials are required - Type your user name and password to connect for retrieving calendar data from outlook".
Mac is Macbook Pro running OS 10.9.3, and Outlook version is 14.4.8.
Any thoughts on how to fix? Have cleared document cache, keychain, certificated and library files. Same problem.
Lync client was downloaded from Outlook "Check for Updates" option. Time and dates are set correctly and Mac is synced with time.apple.com.
Please advise.can you check for the port 5061 from internal and external. Mac clients will use this port to connect to Lync.

Lync for mac 2011 not working in corporate LAN
Hi guys,
I have a mac client that has newest version 14.0.10 of lync installed. The Mac works on OS X Yosemite
operating system. The problem is that when you connect to corporate LAN, lync never connects and gives
following error:
Sign in to Microsoft Lync failed because the service is not available or you may not be connected to the Internet.
If you share a connection via mobile or connect via outside network, you are able to log in and lync functions properly
I have tried to update root certificate on mac via copying one from windows client, but with no luck.Hi Itseeker1,
As ErikHMac stated, the new version of Lync for Mac 14.0.11 has been released, you can install it and check if the issue is solved.
I know you have installed the root certificate on Mac, but please check it again and make sure the certificate is issued by an Enterprise Certificate Authority (Internal CA) and
also should be trusted by the Lync Server.
In addition, it looks like an Internet connectivity issue, please try to flush the DNS cache by running the following command.
dscacheutil -flushcache
Hope it can be helpful.
Best regards,
Eric

My archived ID Files will no longer open in ID 2014. Please help, I need to update our catalog.
If the files come from very old versions, like pre-CS (1.0, 1.5 and 2.0) you have to open them in older versions of InDesign first. Try to open them in CS6 (this is the oldest version which comes with the CC subscription), otherwise go back to CS4 which could open every previous version and save it with the version you use.

The effects of having actually used MacKeeper to do anything are a completely different matter. The fastest way to take an exquisitely designed and painstakingly engineered Mac and make it run like a steaming pile of dung is to install and use such ill-conceived "cleaning" or "security" products. This is just one example of a broad category of time- and money-wasters capable of causing damage that can only be rectified by reinstalling OS X, restoring from a backup, or completely erasing your system and rebuilding it from the ground up. Never install such junk on a Mac.
If you used MacKeeper to encrypt any files or folders, use MacKeeper to un-encrypt them first.
Quit the MacKeeper app if it is running.
Open your Applications folder: Using the Finder's Go menu, select Applications.
Drag the MacKeeper icon from your Applications folder (not the Dock) to the Trash.
You will be asked to authenticate (twice):
You do not need to provide a reason for uninstalling it:
Just click the Uninstall MacKeeper button. You will be asked to authenticate again.
After it uninstalls you may empty the Trash and restart your Mac. All that will remain is an inert log file that does nothing but occupy space on your hard disk. -
Lync for Mac 2011 - crashing since update to 14.0.7
After the latest update to Lync 14.0.7, Lync is now reproduceably crashing every time my Macbook Pro resumes from display sleep. I am running Mavericks 10.9.1. I am unable to find a direct download for the 14.0.6 update for Lync 2011.
Is there anyway to get that? All MS KB bulletins point to the same 14.0.7 download on Microsoft download center. I can remove Lync and get back to 14.0.2 but that build has other issues for me. Can someone help me??
- Robert BuckmasterHi Everyone
We have a few users reporting this very reproducible error.
We are currently testing the following fix applied via the terminal
cd /Applications/Microsoft\ Lync.app/Contents/Frameworks \
&& ln -s USBHIDWrapper.framework USBHidWrapper.framework
So far it seems to be ok - creating the Symbolic Link
The Problem is because it looks like MS have failed to take in to account that the newer Mac OSes are case sensitive....
I tried the Terminal fix, and saw the symbolic link in the right spot. but it didn't solve my 14.0.7 crashes.
However I still had the 14.0.6 DMG file, and deleted the new and reinstalled the old one but THAT doesn't work either.
What a PITA. -
After installing Yosemite, all office for mac 2011 apps crash after opening
Using 2013 MBP, installed Yosemite Friday and when opening Word, Excel, Powerpoint, & Outlook, they open for 5 seconds and then error out and crash. Any ideas? Thanks
Completely uninstall Office. Reinstall it from scratch using the original media. If you don't have the uninstaller then follow these procedures for getting it all removed:
Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:
1. AppZapper
2. AppDelete
3. Automaton
4. Hazel
5. AppCleaner
6. CleanApp
7. iTrash
8. Amnesia
9. Uninstaller
10. Spring Cleaning
