Lync Mobility 2013, lyncdiscoverinternal and Internal Certificates.
Hi Everyone,
The last few days i have been racking my brain over the deployment processes of Lync Mobility in a Lync 2013 environment.
What has got me confused is the process of lyncdiscoverinternal and the autodiscover certificate.
As far as I am aware, All lync 2013 clients require either lyncdiscover or lyncdiscoverinternal DNS records to determine whether they are internal or external to the corporate network.
Thats understandable.
What I cant understand, is the fact that the lync 2013 mobile client, when obtaining lyncdiscoverinrternal.domain.com (which points to the internal address of the front end pool) contacts the Lync front end
services for the auto discover record and is prompted for the certificate that's provided from the web services
on the front end. This certificate is signed by my Internal CA. Is that intended behavior?. because 100% that device
is not going to trust it.
Because if after the autodiscover service has succeeded the Mobility client will then return the external UCWA services URL
and then Hairpin via the reveres proxy back in. This part here makes total sense. So now we have the Mobile
client connected to the front end services VIA the reverse porxy. Public Certificate now.
But the autodiscover part is stumping me.
I can understand if I were to push all trusted CA certificates onto devices then this wouldnt be a problem. But is that feasible? I mean what about in BYOD scenarios, EG a college campus or school. Pushing certificates onto unmanaged devices is sometimes
not an option.
Have other people found solutions in getting the lyncdiscoverinternal record to work for mobility without installing trusted Root CA,s on mobility devices?
Or is a feasible option to create a new DNS for a Guest WIFI network and have only the lyncdiscover record exist just like it was an external network?
Or am i doing something wrong and missed and important design or configuration factor?
Is it possible to tell the Lync Mobility client to push ALL requests via the reverse proxy when on the internal network, Just like the old days when we issued "lyncdiscover" to the external Reverse
Proxy address.
Thanks.
After speaking with Microsoft Support, They did indeed inform me to use the "lyncdiscover" record internally.
They stated to remove the lyncdiscoverinternal record from the DNS and point the lyncdiscover record to the external side of the reverse proxy.
they also informed me that all desktop clients would fail upon using the lyncdiscover record and fall back to the SRV records.
Is this true?
Also once the autodiscover service has worked, how does the mobility client then connect to the server?
From what i have found it will use the external UCWA website on IIS address. Which is the Externallync webservices address which is alos pointing to the reverse proxy external address from the internal network.
Now what happens when media traffic is sent to and from the mobility device. Does it use the edge? If so is it fair to say that hairpinning of media traffic is required aswell?
Or does media use peer to peer or media bypass if enbaled?

Lync Mobile 2013 not connected.
Hello Guys
I have the following problem with Lync Mobile 2013 ):
- I have running Lync 2013 Standard and configure Lync Mobile for Internal/External Link. When a user need to connect to internal lync with Wifi Connection, the connection is not established. Internal dns records for the url webapps.domain.net and also to
lyncdiscovery.domain.net were created but until now the mobiles are trying to connect for some time without success.
We reviewed the step without finding a solution to the problem of mobiles procedures.
Could someone tell me or help to solve this problem, because I stopped in this detail. We are not using TMG to publish internally and the firewall has open ports on our LAN.
Thanks for your helpFor internal access, you will need lyncdiscoverinternal.domain.com an a redirect through your reverse proxy.

Change the ring tone on Lync Mobile 2013
Is there any way to change the ringtone played by the mobile device when a VoIP call comes in to the Lync 2013 mobile device client?
There doesn't appear to be any option within the mobile client to set this. The device in question is iPhone, however I would be interested to see if it is possible to change it on Android and WP clients too.Hi,
There is no way to change the ringtone played on the lync mobile.

hi
When i try to sign in to Microsoft Lync Mobile on your Apple iOS-based device (such as an iPhone or iPad), i receive
one of the following error messages:
Can't connect to the server. It might be unavailable. Also please check your network connection,
sign-in address and server addresses.
what can i do ?
please help me
tanksHi aylin.f
In addition to what other people said, if you want to use mobility feature, you must deploy cumulative update for Lync Server 2010: November 2011.
After you install the CU for Lync Server 2010 and set the
ports , you need to install the new Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Mobility Service and Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Autodiscover Service.
Click the link below for more information.

Hope it can be helpful.

Utilizing SQL Server as Lync Server 2013 backend and monitoring in different forest
Hello,
We are in process of deploying the Lync Server 2013 infrastructure enterprise pool, have a query regarding Lync Backend server.
Can we use a SQL server in all together different forest as backend for Lync 2013 topology, there is a two-way forest trust between the forests? You can do if you can communicate the back-end server successfully. But it is not supported.
Please check the supported Active Directory topologies at

Lync Server 2013 STD pool pairing - certificate questions & DNS entries
Hi guys!
We are thinking about paired pools scenario, but we have one question regarding about certificates requriments on 2nd std pool lync server.
Our current (and only one) front end server (std edition) has this certificate entries:
CN=lync.domain.local
DNS Name=lync.domain.local
DNS Name=sip.domain.com
DNS Name=admin.domain.local
DNS Name=LyncdiscoverInternal.domain.com
DNS Name=lyncreverseproxy.domain.com
DNS Name=Lyncdiscover.domain.com
DNS Name=dialin.domain.local
DNS Name=meet.domain.com
which certificate entries should then have a paired std pool lync server?
bostjancAre you talking about the default cert assigned to the Lync Front Ends or the public certs?
If you are talking about the Lync Front End default cert (and you are using an internal CA) then simply get the second Lync Front End servers cert using STEP 3 of deployment wizard.
Assuming the FQDN of the 2nd std edition is lyncFE2.domain.local, it should look something like this:
CN=lyncFE2.domain.local
DNS Name=lyncFE2.domain.local - Front End #2 FQDN
DNS Name=sip.domain.com - for Lync Phone Edition (2 x DNS entries, 1 to each FE)
DNS Name=admin.domain.local - CSCP (2 x DNS entries, 1 to each FE)
DNS Name=LyncdiscoverInternal.domain.com - mobile clients (2 x DNS entries, 1 to each FE)
DNS Name=Lyncdiscover.domain.com - mobile clients
DNS Name=lyncreverseproxy.domain.com - External Lync web services
DNS Name=dialin.domain.com (assume the .local was a typo?)
DNS Name=meet.domain.com - both meet and dialin (2 x DNS entries, 1 to each FE)

How to block mobile devices connected to internal Wi-Fi networks on Lync 2013
How to block mobile devices connected to internal Wi-Fi networks on Lync 2013.
we don't have lyncdiscoverinternal.contoso.com and lyncdiscover.contoso.com in internal DNS record, all mobile users are connecting from Internet, and we want it to be that way.
So if I create the lyncdiscoverinternal.contoso.com record for Windows desktop clients autodiscover, how do I block internal mobile users from connecting to Lync??
Praveen | MCSE Messaging 2003Hi Praveen,
Based on my experience, one way to achieve this purpose you need to use the Reverse Proxy that is integrate with a Firewall (e.g. TMG 2010 , F5, etc…).
Please have a look at the following picture.
In Lync Server 2013,
both the internal Mobility Service URL and the external Mobility Service URL are associated with the external Web Services FQDN.
From the above picture, if you use a reverse proxy that is
separate from the firewall, then the hairpin will be created,
and cause the mobile client which connected to the internal Wifi will be able to
access the external interface of the Reverse Proxy.
In this situation, the mobile client which from Internet will not be effected.

Eric

Lync Server 2013 mobility - yes..
I've read a million different posts on this subject, but they all seem to differ a little from our issue.
We have a Lync 2013 setup, with Lync Hosting Pack. Our setup is pretty basic, with a front end server, a backend, edge. We also deployed an AD FS and used a Web Application Proxy. - All users will connect externally. No internal users.
Our desktop clients connects well, we have voice, presence and whatnot.
Mobility however, is another issue:
Lync Connectivity Analyzer shows
Your deployment meets the minimum requirements for Lync Mobile 2013 App.
We use a wildcard Cert with all the SANs included (*.domain.no , with frontend.domain.no, lyncdiscover.domain.no, aso.)
The iOS app just keeps chewing and chewing, and won't log in.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

On-Site Conversation Translator and Lync Server 2013
To Whom It May Concern,
I'm looking into deploying Lync Server 2013 Standard and I was curious as to whether there is a way to install the Conversation Translator as a service on-site. Meaning not using the service on the Internet. Similar to IBM's Websphere Application
Server where I can install a local instance on a closed network, have Sametime Connect point to that service, and translate the IM conversation.
I remember talking to a few MS folks a couple years ago, and they mentioned that it was going to be available as an add-on (or component) of Lync Server. Is this possible?
Thanks,
BrendanThere is a Client side plugin, take a look at:

How to reinstall Lync server 2013 Core Component Server Applications
Hi Would like to know how to register back the core server applications and where can i find the priority list. I incidentally
removed the server applications (ClientVersionFilter, IIMFilter, VoIP Apps and EumRouting and Outbouding) when i removed my MSPL script application from the pool. I missed out to put my script
app name after pool name when i run the command remove-cstrustedapplication. Then, it removed all the core apps from that pool.
I found that .am files and .exe files are still in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2013\Core and tried
to register back using cmdlets but not very sure about the priority of the apps. Or can I install RTCHost.exe? Now Outgoing call is not working. Please kindly help. Thanks in Advance.Oh.. thank you very much both
Saleesh and Eric. I will try it.
What I did is that I used the cmdlets New-CsServerApplication and registered the server apps (checked the server apps
list from testing fe server) like how I register MSPL script app. But I may miss out some components since testing fe server uses Standard Edition. I registered my
MSPL script app back too, but after a while Lync Front End Service keeps on stopping. I am not sure that
MSPL script or missing components which one causes to stop front end service. Now I am checking the event viewer logs.
If I run add-remove Lync component wizard on the server, will it remove any other settings like removing users from
pool? or it just install/unstall lync server core components only?
Many thanks! -
LYNC 2013 mobility clients disconnect and AAR bad response time
Good day,
I'm new to this, but have to implement LYNC 2013 for our company.
I have implemented Lync 2013 by following various instructions and all seems fine... apart from all mobile clients (internal/external - Andoid/IOS). They get disconnected after a few minutes. On Android the error is "unknown error" (very useful)
and on IOPS it's "unhandeled alert type 302 E_Badgateway (E2-3-35).
What I have noticed is that on AAR, on the LYNCWEB server farm (under " Monitoring and Management") the response time is huge (10000 + ms) and when the errors come up on the clients I get a "failed request".
I can not think what may be wrong but all is pointing to AAR?
AAR is version 3 running on 2021 R2
any ideas? been stuck for a week on this now.
Many thanks
DDHi,
From your description above, it seems to be the issue with IIS ARR.
You can check with the following steps:
Check if DNS records and certificate were appropriate.
Check if ExposedWebURL set to External.
Try to increase the time out value from 200 to 1800
More details:

Lync 2013 federation and mobile push 504 error
Hello,
In our company we have deployed Lync 2013 Standard with last CU
1. Front End - External web serwis and mobile sing by wildcard certyfikate trusted in Internet, and Internal webserwis sing by our Internal CA not trusted in internet
In Topology is registred: LyncFE.company.local
Default SIP domain is company.com
2. Edge Server - All in one server sing by our Internal CA not trusted in internet with Subject Alternative Names: sip.company.local, sip.company.com, LyncEDGE.company.com
In Topology is registred: LyncEDGE.company.local
3. Reversed Proxyand NAT and firewall setup our firewall with Port Translating
LyncEDGE.comapny.local have asigned by NAT public IP Adres 10.10.10.10
LyncFE.company.local have asingned by NAT public adres IP 10.10.10.11
Incoming traffic for 10.10.10.10 and 10.10.10.11 Lync ports TCP/UDP from documentation
Outgoing traffic for 10.10.10.10 (LyncEDGE) on TCP 5061 need for federation
4. DNS setup
We have split domain and DNS like this:
Company.local (Internal DNS) and Company.com (External DNS)
DNS Records in our External DNS:
LyncEDGE.company.com record A 10.10.10.10
LyncFE.company.com record A 10.10.10.11
sip.comapny.com TLS --> LyncEDGE.copmany.com
_sipfederationtls._tcp.company.com -> LyncEDGE.copmany.com
_sipinternaltls._tcp.company.com --> -> LyncEDGE.copmany.com
lyncdiscover.company.com --> 10.10.10.10
In this setup works for now: Lync Audio Video, Mobile access. And now we trying setup Federation and Push notyfication and when we testing we get 504 form serwer.
Test-CsFederatedPartner -TargetFqdn lyncedge.company.local (This is the name of our LyncEDGE server in topology)-Domain microsoft.com
Test-CsFederatedPartner : A 504 (Server time-out) response was received from

My lyncedge.company.com was add by Microsoft as Federation for Skype
telnet form Front End server to LyncEDGE.company.local on port 5061 works
Firewall show outbond traffic form LyncEDGE.company.com (10.10.10.10) to Microsoft site
But still i cant get working federation and push notyfication for mobile some one can advise where problem can be? I think problem is with our certyficate setup on EDGE server that is sing by our Internal CA not trusted in Internet.Hi, I exchanged root certyfikates with my partner. And now he can see my status, call Video, send IM to my all account but I can't do nothink I get 504, on my logs I see below:
I tested
telnet sip.partnerdomian.pl 5061 -- OK
telnet sip.partnerdomian.pl 443-- ok
nslookup _sipfederationtls._tcp.partnerdomian.pl --> sip.partnerdomian.pl port 5061
All is ok but still timeout, where look for problem on my site or partner site. He have 3 IP LAN adreses on Edge NAT on one public

Great follow up thanks!.
Seems i am near to solution.
I used web site url https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com it pass all test,
When i use to test using tool it goes to my local fqdn and says unable to resolve.
An error occurred while sending the request.
The remote name could not be resolved: 'lync1.hosting.mydomain.local'
When i open this url lyncdiscover_contoso.com it give both internal and extral url.
Which is this {"_links":{"self":{"href":"https://lync1.hosting.mydomain.local/Autodiscover/AutodiscoverService.svc/root?originalDomain=haxxess.com"},"user":{"href":"https://lync01.externaldomain.com/Autodiscover/AutodiscoverService.svc/root/oauth/user?originalDomain=external.com"},"xframe":{"href":"https://lync01.externaldomain.com/Autodiscover/XFrame/XFrame.html"}}}
I am using lync 2013, with no tmg for publishing, internal web servie name is empty overrite and extranal is lync01.externaldomain.com
So as article says if i see internal url If the internal web services URL is identified, the web publishing rule is incorrect and is bridging the connection to port 443
instead of port 4443 for the Lync external web services.
Where do i have to change this in topology under web service. can you please guide this last phase. -
Confused with Lync 2013 Autodisocver and mobile app
Hello
i am confused about some stuff related to lync 2013 client discovery and mobility:
1) internal client will try to resolve lyncdisocverinternal , then why on the internal CA request i can see lyncdiscover &lync disocoverextrnal?
2)for auto discover to work from extrnal does it look for the A record "sip.mydomian.com" or its searching for lyncdisocver?
3) does Mobility (client for ipad or Andriod) try to connect to edge server if if its located on the internal network or it can understand if its on the internal wifi to use internal and its outside the network it will use external?
please helpAll Mobility Service traffic goes through the reverse proxy, regardless of where the origination point is—internal or external.
The Lync Server 2013 Autodiscover Service returns all Web Services URLs for the user's home pool, including the Mobility Service (Mcx and UCWA) URLs. However, both the internal Mobility Service URL and the external Mobility Service URL are associated with
the external Web Services FQDN.
You can run the command Set-CsMcxConfiguration –ExposedWebURL internal.
The parameter internal indicates whether the URL used by the Autodiscovery Service is accessible to users both inside and outside the organization firewall (External) or only accessible to users inside the firewall (Internal).
If you set to internal, you can’t connect externally.
