Lync online meeting Firewall help

We do not have Lync in my business but we do have some employees who join online Lync meetings that a customer hosts. The issue we are having is that we can log into the meeting and load the Lync Web App but when the host shares their screen, we get nothing. It just loops. I have made sure to allow the program through the local Windows Firewall ( I even disabled the Firewall in one test and still no go)I setup a meeting with the host today and logged in on my network and on my hot spot. Hot Spot works no problem which leads me to believe it's firewall related. I allowed the ports that I found for Lync Online and still nada. I have a Fortigate Firewall. Has anyone ever allowed Lync through this type of Firewall? I tried adding the applications to a Monitor Sensor and still can't see anything. We are running Win 7 Enterprise with IE 11...

That sounds like either ports blocked or perhaps a routing issue. Of course more details about your architecture are required to make a more accurate assumption. Also, you should be seeing errors in the Front End servers Event Log that could put you on to
the underlying cause.
Lastly, collect a trace using OCSLogger and analyze with Snooper to see why the audio is failing.

    Hi,
Did the issue happen for one partner or for multiple partners?
Did the issue happen for single online meeting with external business partner or for multiple online meetings?
Please update to the latest version for Lync server and Lync client and then test again.
In my Lync environment, on a Lync online meeting which included external federation users, I can see the full name of them.

  • How To Create Lync Online Meeting Using EWS

Does anyone know how to create a Lync Online Meeting Using EWS (Exchange Web Service API). The exchange version I'm using is 2010 SP2.
I'm able to successfully create a regular meeting/appointment using EWS and now I'm trying to create a lync online meeting using EWS which will incorporate the lync online meeting URL in the invite that gets send out to attendees.
I'm using C#. I have try setting the Appoinment IsOnlineMeeting property to true but I'm not seeing any changes it is having. I see that the Appointment object also has a JoinOnlineMeetingUrl property which I have tried to use but I got an exception because
my exchange version is 2010 and it requires the 2013 version.
I've been researching this for a couple of days now and I've yet to find a solution for it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi.
I see that you have the same problem. I'm trying to create an online meeting with EWS (or UCMA 3.0?) without results. Have you resolved? Can you post your code?
    Thanks in advance.

  • When printing a Lync Online Meeting from Outlook 2010, it prints out xml code?

I have a couple of users that whenever they go to print out Lync 2010 Online Meetings from outlook 2010, it prints off a bunch of xml code and extra info (UCCCapabilities, UCInband, UCMeetingSetting, UCMeetingSent) all in XML.
Any ideas why it would be doing this, and only affecting a couple of users?
    TAG

The following fix worked in our Exchange 2010, Lync 2010, environment.
    Symptom
In Outlook, when users are printing (or print previewing) Lync
online meetings on shared calendars, an XML code is included in the printout.
    Cause
When the shared calendar is opened, the folder is being
reported as read-only despite the user having read-write permissions. The Lync
add-in writes a property to the item (this succeeds) and then to the folder
(this fails) so then the code is not run that would mark the property as the
    item as non-printable.
    Possible Resolution
If the owner of the calendar creates an online meeting one time on their own calendar, this will
result in the property being created in the calendar folder. Then when a
delegate subsequently creates an online meeting on the calendar, the property
will already be on the folder, so the Lync add-in will not try to add it. This
avoids the error condition, and the property on the item will then be
    successfully flagged as non-printable.
This worked for me. My user was a delegate for the managers mailbox. When she created an online Lync meeting on behalf of the manager, the meeting attendees would see the xml code in print preview as well as the printed document. The simple fix, as described
above, was just to access the managers Outlook profile from the managers computer, and create and send out an online Lync meeting (to one or more recipients, shouldn't matter). That's it. Now when the delegate goes to create any new online Lync meeting on
behalf of the manager, the visible code is no longer present. This works, as the description above says, because "the property will already be on the folder (after the manager creates an online Lync meeting on their own calendar), so the Lync add-in will
not try to add it. This avoids the error condition."

  • Why Firefox does not start the Lync online meeting anymore when updated to the version 21.0?

The version 20 worked well. Now the one and only choise is "Get me out of here". I renew the certificate but even "I understand the risks" did not help in the version 21. Now I have to run IE to get the online meeting opened.

hello Seppva, please try this: enter '''about:config''' into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''plugins.load_appdir_plugins'''. double-click it and change its value to '''true''' (a restart of the browser might be necessary afterwards for the change to take effect).
some background on the issue is explained in http://www.ghacks.net/2013/05/15/why-you-may-have-lost-access-to-plugins-or-extensions-in-firefox-21/

  • Join Online Meeting link launches the Web App even though the Lync Client is installed.

    Hello,
I have this problem on a few computers.  When I click on the "Join online meeting" button or link (https://meet.###.com/###/1wnj6l1n) the web page launches the
webapp instead of a session in the full Lync client that I have installed (v. 4.0.7577.0).   There is not  a ?SL= at the end of the weblink.
I searched online to see if there was a registry setting that auto-bypasses the client check, but there isn't.  I have tried a repair on the Lync client, but still no luck.
Has anyone else run into this problem?
    Thanks.

I found the answer.  The Https:\\meet.domain.com was opening in the internet zone with Protected mode on.  I added the URL to my trusted sites and it was no longer an issue.  I didn't test it but turning off protected mode may work as well.

  • Lync 2013 meeting invitation customizations not working for some users

    Hello Microsoft TechNet Forms,
I have a strange problem that I am totally stumped on. I made some modifications to the Lync 2013 meeting configuration to add in my company's logo, a footer and set a custom help Lync URL. Now everything seemed to work expect for myself and
one other person I tested with. If I try creating a new Lync 2013 meeting via my Outlook 2013 the normal stock Lync meeting invite appears. Yet testing with any other user everything I have changed appears as expected and I am at a total loss to why.
I have so far from troubleshooting determined it must be something with my account that is causing it but I have just not been able to determine what. As signing into a different machine yields the same result yet testing with another account that is
known to work on the exact same machine works correctly with the different account. I have tired deleting and re-crating my Lync account just in case that had something to do with it but that didn't fix the problem. I have tired repairing Office 2013 to
running windows update on Office 2013 which didn't help.
The changes I made to the meeting configuration are global scoped. I have so far not found anything online from anyone ever reporting a similar issue to this. At this point I am stuck on what I should be looking for with regards to what is stopping
the meeting invite updating for myself and the other person. Given I don't know what mechanism is involved with updating the Lync meeting invite on Outlook 2013 I am stumped. I am open to any suggestions someone might have as to what to do next or what might
be the cause of this problem.
    Nicholas,

    Hi Nicholas,
Can you compare your account with other’s and check if your account is applied any special policy in Lync Control Panel ?

  • Is it possible to make in : Join by phone to online meeting request that the number is shown as hiperlink in outlook??

is it possible to make in : Join by phone tin online meeting request that the number is shown as hiperlink in outlook 2010??
when i send the invitation for example to gmail user I can see it on my phone. but if I would like to call directly from the outlook request I have to copy and paste the number , it is not hiperlinked....
    help
    any suggestions???

Mine works with the tel URL syntax already in there.
A couple of thoughts, if that's not working for you you could make your own hyperlink to look something like this:
    <a href=tel:+556666888888>Join Via Phone</a>
I've seen callto: work as well.
Which you might be able to append into the default meeting invite:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398638.aspx
The other thought is to check out Matt's select dial:
http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/Lync-Copy-Dial-Just-Select-3c426244 which would allow you to highlight any number and hit a hotkey to call.

  • What port number for Desktop Sharing using in Lync Server 2013 and Lync Online

    Dear All,
My environment using Lync Server 2013 and Lync online on Office 365. I don't want my user using Desktop Sharing feature. then I need to know what port number for Desktop Sharing using in Lync Server 2013 and Lync Online.
I will deny this port on personal firewall each client.
          Thank you for your advise.

    Hi,
I'm not sure you'd be able to do this with ports without impacting other application sharing features such as Q&A, Whiteboard, Poll etc - I'm pretty sure they all come under the same umbrella of ClientAppSharing.
    Ordinarily you would create or modify your conferencing policy to restrict sharing to single programs only using a cmdlet similar to below;
    Set-CsConferencingPolicy -Identity "Global" -EnableAppDesktopSharing SingleApplication
This would disable desktop sharing but enable users to continue sharing other single programs. If you want to remove that functionality too, then replace the 'SingleApplication' parameter with 'None'. Then users won't be able to share any programs either.
This is the correct way to do it as the icons will be greyed out for the users. Doing it your way, they would still be able to click them, and it would throw an error - this will lead to a lot more support calls and people assuming a service is broken.
    I hope that helps some.
    Kind regards
    Ben

  • Lync Delegate Meeting Creation works in OWA but not in Outlook 2010

The environment is Exchange Online and Lync Online.
When users are assigned Delegate rights (either through Outlook OR via Powershell into Exchange Online) they are able to create regular meetings, modify calendar entries per their rights assigned in the calendar they have delegate access to.
However, when they attempt to create a Lync Meeting for the delegate calendar, they get the error that they do not have access.  HOWEVER, if they go to OWA, and create an Online Meeting for the delegate, it works perfectly.
The user in question is a delegate for 3 people.  For 1 of the 3, the user can create Lync Meetings for the delegate in Outlook with no issues.  For the other 2 people, the user gets the no access error.  However, the user can create Lync
Meetings for ALL 3 in OWA.
The rights and permissions that the delegate has to the 3 users are the same.
This leads me to believe it is an Outlook client issue and not an Exchange Online or Lync Online issue (the reason being the user can create the meetings in OWA)
Tried to create a new profile for the user, tried the /CLEANPROFILE switch and neither have resolved the problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi,
Since everything works fine on OWA, I agree with you that this seems to be a client problem.
Remove the delegate permission for the user completely on OWA, then regain the permission, re-configure the Outlook Profile to check the result. Please also make sure the permission of the calendars have been granted for the user too.
Since it's client only, I doubt whether background programs are interfering with Outlook, perform a clean boot to test:

  • Managing Lync Online user traffic

    Hi,
Trying to understand what is the best way to route the Lync online user traffic from corporate LAN to Lync online server and to users connected on Internet.
I see that suggested methods are route it via firewall or proxy
Challenges I see with firewall method are: Routing issue from certain subnets and risk of opening up so many ports for so many subnets.
In Proxy method I foresee performance issue.
Is there any other better method to achieve this?
Can we do something better using dedicated F5 big IP for Lync traffic alone? Is this supported?
Also is it mandatory to open up 50-60K port to have p2p call? Can’t it happen via Lync online edge server?
    Please share your thoughts.
We use Lync 2013 on prim with 3 Lync pool in three different sites with total user base of 30k. Each site has dedicated internet connectivity.
    Regards
    Praveen R

According to your description, I suppose when you mentioned Lync online user you meant the Lync on premises users other than Office 365 account.
The 50k port ranges are required between internet and Lync A/V service.
You need to create persistent static routes on the internal interface to all internal networks.
The Lync Server 2013 scaled consolidated Edge topology is optimized for DNS load balancing for new deployments federating primarily with other organizations using Lync Server. If high availability is required for any of the following scenarios, a hardware
load balancer must be used on Edge Server pools for the following:
Federation with organizations using Office Communications Server 2007 R2 or Office Communications Server 2007
Exchange UM for remote users using Exchange UM prior to Exchange 2010 with SP1
    Connectivity to public IM users
    For details, check
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj656815.aspx
You need to open 50k port ranges to have peer-to-peer call.
