Lync RCA - Edge with IIS ARR

Hello,
I have deployed an Edge server and collocated it with IIS ARR instead of using TMG for the pilot of 2013 that i am running. All the services are up and running fine, but when I do a test in the Lync RCA tool for auto-discover, I get the following error:
Testing HTTP content for URL https://lyncdiscover.uwaterloo.ca/Autodiscover/AutodiscoverService.svc/root/domain has McxService.svc.
HTTP content isn't verified.
Tell me more about this issue and how to resolve it
Additional Details
HTTP 200 status received from server, but no McxService.svc.
The IIS ARR routing rules have the farm setup to route to the FE pool on ports 8080 and 4443, so I am not sure where else to look for this.

however our proxy is 2008 r2 32bit, the hotfix appears to be for 2012.
Do we need this hotfix or is there another way to resolve this 502 problem

Hi,
Did the issue happen for only one IOS Lync client or for multiple IOS clients?
Please try to uninstall Lync client on IOS and then download the latest version of Lync client to have a test again.
If the issue persists, please enable logging on IOS Lync client for further troubleshooting.

IIS ARR lyncdiscover points autodiscoverinternalurlUri

I have a 1 Lync 2013 Front End standard and i'm trying to connect lync mobile clients, i have published lyncdiscover.contoso.com with iis arr but when i open xml Href is pointing to autodiscoverserviceinternalURI

Issues with mobility and autodiscovery with Lync 2013 and IIS/ARR

this is my last resort after days and days searching a solution for this problem... unsuccessfully.
All works fine unless the autodiscovery service with external users and the mobility service for both internal and external ones.
I deployed a Standard Edition Lync Server 2013 with:
a consolidated Frontend server in LAN
an Archiving and Monitoring server in LAN
an Edge server in DMZ with 2 NICs (one in DMZ network and one in LAN)
a IIS/ARR 2.5 reverse proxy in DMZ with 2 NICs (one in DMZ network and one in LAN)
All these roles are on Windows Server 2012 R2.
No split-DNS is deployed since I have different domains for internal and external. In any case I used the pinpoint DNS tip to resolve some records internally (I followed this guide http://tsoorad.blogspot.ch/2012/10/lync-server-dns-pinpoint-zones.html)

I installed and configured IIS/ARR 2.5 with KB2732764 and KB2785586 on Reverse Proxy following the NextHop guide. The local IP address of external NIC on Reverse Proxy is NATTED by a Cisco ASA firewall with public IP address and only 80/443
ports are permitted.
The problems occurs when I try to connect whit my Lync 2013 APP on iPad using autodiscovery service, both internally and externally. After some seconds the APP shows the message “Cannot connect to the server because it could be busy or
temporarily unavailable. Retry.” When I used the IIS/ARR 3.0 the problem looked like an authentication issue, then I came back to ISS/ARR 2.5 version with its KB. Now I cannot understand what is the cause about logfail.
The same behavior occurs with Android Lync 2013 APP and Windows Phone 8 APP.
Moreover my Lync 2013 client on Windows 7 can connect internally with autodiscovery settings but it cannot do it externally.
I'm a bit confused because I cannot understand if the problem is about external webservice of Frontend server or about Reverse Proxy configuration or about Lync Control Panel configuration.

I created _sip._tls.domain-ext.com SRV record in the external DNS and now autodiscovery works fine. At the beginning I had not created it because I thought lyncdiscover.domain-ext.com A record was enough for autodiscovery. I still cannot understand
why lyncdiscover.domain-ext.com points to reverse proxy, while _sip._tls.domain-ext.com points to Edge server. It's strange because both are part of the research order of Lync 2013 desktop clients.
By the way, mobility still does not work. I tried to insert bot the https URLs as manual configuration but Lync 2013 for iPad was not be able to login. I tried to paste both the URLs in the web browser and:
with https://<ExtwebFQDN>/Autodiscover/autodiscoverservice.svc/Root appears the "Root.json" file to be downloaded;
with https://<IntwebFQDN>/AutoDiscover/AutoDiscover.svc/Root
the message "500-Internal error of server" appears.
Any suggests from you about how to check the configuration of ISS/ARR 2.5?

Configuring Lync 2010 Mobility with Front end and Edge Server

I have been racking my brain the past week trying to figure out how to get the lync edge server working properly and how to get the mobility service working properly.
Currently I have 1 front end server that is configured and working. I have one edge server that has been configured according to nearly every online help I could find along with public CERT.
If I use microsoft's online connectivity test and I run the test for
Lync Server Remote Connectivity Test everything passes. I am also able to connect to lync using a windows lync client from outside of the internal network however I have to specify the server name as being sip.ourdomain.com I cannot get connected using
autodiscover.
When I run the Lync Autodiscover Web Service Remote Connectivity Test it fails due to SSL error to lyncdiscover.ourdomain.com which then lead me down the path that I needed to install
the Mobility service but it also tells me that I may need to update our SSL cert as well.
This is where I am getting confused and would like to be pointed in the correct direction.
When I installed mobility service on the front end server it created the autodiscover section in IIS. If I am inside our network I can browse to it without any issue. Where I am confused at this point is how to either setup DNS or how to configure
the edge server to use autodiscover.
Do I need to setup an additional public IP and point lyncdiscover.ourdomain.com to the IP of our front end server or to our edge server? If I have to point this to our front end server then that would mean that I use one public IP that goes to 443,
444 and 5061 for our edge server and then I would need one public IP that goes to ports 443 and 80 that get redirected to ports 4443 and 8080 on our front end server? If that is the case then do I have to get an external cert for the front end server
that contains lyncdiscover or can clients connect if it is just using the self signed cert from the domain?
This is where I am getting confused at and hopefully some nice folks out there can clarify this for me so I can get this resolved.

You need an additional public IP to point to a reverse proxy, which will listen on port 443 and proxy requests to your front end server on port 4443 (notice the extra 4). You can use IIS ARR, Web Application Proxy, or whatever else you may have for
this purpose, but you need to ensure you redirect port 443 to port 4443. This reverse proxy cannot be collocated on your front end server or edge, you'll need a separate box or appliance.
Beyond Lyncdiscover, you'll want to do this for your external web services FQDN as defined in the topology builder and your meet and dialin URLs too. You'll want a third part cert for all of this (though it doesn't need to be installed on the front
end, just the reverse proxy) so that you don't need to install any internally signed root certs on anyone's smartphone.

Lync 2013 IIS ARR Pattern

I have the following setup:
standard edition 2013 FE
edge server 2013
reverse proxy with iis 8 with arr 2.5 and patched with the hotfix
Questions:
1. with reverse proxy, does the route go something like this
lync.xxx.com>reverse proxy>internet>fqdn external web services on fe public ip?
2. I have multiple sip domains and to cut down on costs and forecast for future sip domains I setup the web services as follows: https://lync.xxx.com/sipdomain1/meet/ https://lync.xxx.com/sipdomain2/meetwhatever I try this doesn't proxy to the fe external
web service fqdn it errors out on the proxy server. I am looking for the proper expression/pattern in iis to make it work. Whats interesting is https://lync.xxx.com/dialin works and is forwarded to the web services fqdn on the fe server, however if I try and
login it doesn't do anything. This leads me to believe the pattern in iis arr for the url rewrite is somehow dropping the request. logs don't tell me much. this is all driving me insane as I have been working on this for a week. this is the pattern I

You need to access externally.
Please check you add DNS A lync.xxx.com recording point to reverse proxy IP.
Check you have published simple URLs successfully.

Lync Office Web App Farm External Access using IIS ARR

When i try to present a powerpoint app when logged in externally i get an error saying that it could not connect to the office web app server. I need some help with (maybe screenshots) of what the reverse proxy settings should be. Here is some info
so maybe someone can fill in the blanks.
My Office web app server has a private address and sits on the inside. The DNS name is owasrv.mydomain.com
The internal url is https://owasrv.mydomain.com
The external url is https://wacsrv.mydomain.com
i have a public A record pointing to wacsrv.mydomain.com and my ssl cert has a SAN entry for wacsrv.mydomain.com
***NOTE our public and private domain names are the same...that is not a mistake.
I mostly need help with the what to put in for the url rewrite rules and what to put in when creating the server farm. Also is it OK that the name of my server is different than the external url address.

and moving the rule to the top?
What happens when you try to browse to https://wacsrv.mydomain.com/hosting/discovery from external?
They can be different, I usually make them the same for simplicity, but as long as they're set on the Webfarm it shouldn't be an issue.

IIS ARR Lync Mobility failed

Hello, in need of help, we're trying to find alternative to TMG, so we are trying to use ARR to publish but seem to be stuck
when we do a lync we get the following error:
Testing HTTP authentication methods for URL https://lyncdiscover.itt.com/Autodiscover/AutodiscoverService.svc/root/user.
HTTP authentication test failed.
Tell me more about this issue and how to resolve it

Lync Mobile unable to sign in using IIS ARR

We have a deployment which currently has no issues using an Apache reverse proxy running on Ubuntu. I am working on switching over to a supported reverse proxy, so IIS ARR is the obvious choice. I have configured IIS ARR by following the steps at:

When I try to sign on externally using Lync 2013 Mobile, I get a message saying "An unknown error occured". The Lync Mobile logs show the following error:
Caused by: java.net.ConnectException: failed to connect to /xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (port 443) after 60000ms: isConnected failed: ECONNREFUSED (Connection refused)
I have even gone as far as opening all the ports to the IIS ARR server on the firewall and disabling Windows firewall on everything.

it's assume reverse proxy configuration issue, please check the following things:
Please make sure your internal web service url and external web service url are not pointed to the same FQDN.
Verify you have update the public certifcates including lyncautodiscover URL in the SAN entries for your reverse proxy server
Check the authenticated delegation is set to "No delegation, but clients may authenticate directly"
Please try to enable internal access and see if it works
If still no luck,please enable Lync server logging tool and reproduce the issues,then use snooper to analyze the log for more specific information

IIS ARR interferes with TSG?

RDP works fine with IIS set to auth (direct to https://my-domain/ requires login auth), but it seems when I try to set up a Reverse Proxy using IIS, URL Rewrite and ARR ( having https://my-domain/ show http://internal:88/ ) the website works fine but TSG
stops working.
Machine -> ARR -> Enable Proxy /* ARR feature only avail at machine level, not site */
Machine -> Sites -> Default Web Site -> URL Rewrite -> "(.*)" to "http://internal:88/{R:1}"
My Goal is to have only 443 forwarded from WAN to TSG w/IIS and:
TSG avail for remote admin of internal machine[s]
443 show an internal server's website (not TSG's) with auth enabled so login is required to view.
I have gotten one or other to work, but not both.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. This isn't about IIS - it's about Terminal Services Gateway. I have searched exhaustively and found NO documentation on the connection process and what url[s]/protocol[s] are used when TSG is used to initiate a connection.
I found http://server:443/remoteDesktopGateway/* and
http://server:443/rpc/* by examining the IIS logs. I'm not even sure if
http://server:443/rpc/* is necessary. I want to make sure I have all of the url[s]/protocol[s] properly covered so I don't have any future issues.

Lync IIS ARR

Hi Guys,
I've asked this question before but I thought I'd put it out there again to see if anyone has any ideas.
I am trying to publish Office Web App server and Lync URL's (Meet, Lyncdiscover and Lyncweb) through IIS ARR (reverse proxy).
The challenge is, I have two separate certificates. I added the IIS cert for Office webapps to the first IP address in IIS. Everything is working for webapps.
My idea was to add a second IP address and add the Lync certificate and using that IP in IIS and ARR to route traffic, only I can't get it working. I've setup all of the rules but when I browse to it it just says File or Directory not found and no errors
on the Lync server which leads me to believe the traffic is not getting there. No errors in IIS in ARR as well because it seems to be doing what it's supposed to be doing.
Any ideas around this situation, it's possible I am not even going in the right direction. I am running windows 2012 R2 on the reverse proxy server.
Thanks for any ideas...The main issue I am trying to get around is binding more than 1 cert to 443...I tried to get around it by adding more IP's and binding to other IP's.

For Lync Web Services, please check if you create two services (internal and external), both services you need to listening on port 80 and on TCP port 443.
When adding the servers to the virtual service for Lync Web Services, make sure correct port is used, because the clients are external and will be accessing external website on Lync Front-End servers which listens on TCP ports 8080 and 4443. When adding

Lync 2013 Edge and Reverse proxy on same server with SNI

I cannot find information if it is possible to create a single Lync 2013 Edge server with a Reverse proxy on the same server?
Would it not be possible to share port 443 with SNI support? That way we could use only one public IP?

Sorry, it doesn't work. Remember that 443 isn't HTTPS for the Edge. If you went with the single IP model for the edge, 443 would be used for the A/V role which would be STUN/TURN.
The edge will always want to listen on 443, it just doesn't work to collocate a reverse proxy.

LYNC Server EDGE server configuration with single IP

Lync 2013 Edge server compatibility with Lyn 2010 Front end Pool

Technet article (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj688121.aspx) says the following:
If your legacy Lync Server 2010 Edge Server is configured to use the same FQDN for the Access Edge service, Web Conferencing Edge service, and the A/V Edge service, the procedures in this section are not supported. If the
legacy Edge services are configured to use the same FQDN, you must first migrate all your users from Lync Server 2010 to Lync Server 2013, then decommission the Lync Server 2010 Edge Server before enabling federation on the Lync Server 2013 Edge Server.
Can you tell me why it is you have to change the External Lync Web services URL during a migration to Lync 2013 from Lync 2010. What purpose does this serve?
Also can you clarify this and explain why this is required, why would you have to migrate all of your users, would a Lync 2013 Edge not talk to a Lync 2010 front-end?

In addition to this I cannot find anything that states how Exchange UM will operate when you are running from a backup pool and the exchange UM contacts are not available because they are homed on the server that is down. This
configuration is 2 x standard edition servers pool paired. How can we make sure Exchange voice mail works during a pool failover?
Call Park is not clear to me I read the following:

Is this saying we need to deploy Call Park in the DR pool and use a different range of orbit numbers, or can we use the same range in the DR pool?
Further, I can see that Common Area Phones will be fine as they will log into the DR pool automatically. Response Groups need to be exported and imported to the DR pool. Incidentally these did not migrate well at all and have
caused us a big headache!
