Lync Server 2013 Deployment - Cross domain within Single Forest

Hello Team,
We have 5 separate domains in a Single Forest with two-way trust between domains. We are planning to deploy Lync 2013 On-Premise across all domains.
1) What would be best possible approach to deploy Lync Servers ?
2) We are planning to get 16000 Users (spread across 5 different domains) on Lync account, Can we have a Single pool managing all users ?
3) What high availability options should we opt for ?

Hello Saleesh,
Thanks for the update.
I could just go ahead with below steps, Could you advise ?
1) add additional sip domains as part of Lync pool configuration
2) Install Certificates on all the domains
3) update DNS suffix for all the domains - Any other changes i need to do with respect to DNS.
4) Web publishing rules - Do i need to add seperate simple URLS for all domains ?
5) Should i do any further changes on Office web app servers to make sure it works for all users from 5 seperate domains.
Thanks,
Shady

  • Please help me resolve the Lync server 2013 deployment error: "An error occurred while applying SQL script for the feature BackendStore."

I am getting an error in "Step 2 - Setup or Remove Lync Server Components" of "Install or Update Lync Server System" step.
"An error occured while applying SQL script for the feature BackendStore. For details, see the log file...."
Additionally, all previous steps such as: Prepare Active Directory, Prepare first Standard Edition server, Install Administrative Tools, Create and publish topology are done without any errors. The user that I used to setup the Lync server is member of:
    Administrators
    CSAdministrator
    Domain Admins
    Domain Users
    Enterprise Admins
    Group Policy Creator Owners
    RTCComponentUniversalServices
    RTCHSUniversalServices
    RTCUniversalConfigReplicator
    RTCUniversalServerAdmins
    Schema Admins
I have tried to re-install all the things and started to setup a new one many times but the same error still occurred. Please see the log below and give me any ideas/solutions to tackle this problem.

  • Utilizing SQL Server as Lync Server 2013 backend and monitoring in different forest

    Hello,
We are in process of deploying the Lync Server 2013 infrastructure enterprise pool, have a query regarding Lync Backend server.
Can we use a SQL server in all together different forest as backend for Lync 2013 topology, there is a two-way forest trust between the forests?

You can do if you can communicate the back-end server successfully. But it is not supported.
Please check the supported Active Directory topologies at

  • Issues repairing a Lync Server 2013 deployment

    Hi,
Due to a malfunctioning of CAC service I decided to uninstall and then install those components again (using the Wizard).
I unchecked CAC in Topology Builder and republished.
    Then I followed the steps:
    1) Install Local Configuration Store
I found a problem. The last command, Replicate-CsCmsCertificates, arises an error (the others run fine):
I haven't found anything about this error. When I checked the log:
It only said something related to a registry key, probably permissions.
I compared the three registry keys with the name "LS Replica Replicator Agent Service" with other Lync Server's registry that is working and they are the same. The keys are in
    HKLM\System\{ControlSet001|ControlSet002|CurrentControlSet}\services\eventlog\Lync Server.
Nevertheless, when clicking "Finish" Step 1 state was Complete, so I went on.
    2) Setup or Remove Lync Server Components
It was OK and removed PDP (CAC) components.
    3) Request, Install or Assign Certificates
Didn't do it as they were right.
    4) Start services
    None services started:
         Front-End, error -2147024809
A/V Conferencing, error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion
         And so on.
    I have tried several things:
    a) Deleting xds-replica so it creates it again: it fails in Replicate-CsCmsCertificates also
    b) Deleting and repeating Certificates step: they go right but OAuth certificate, that end also with a Replicate-CsCmsCertificates and fails
    c) Repairing software through Control Panel>Programs: it didn't work as it failed again when repeating the steps
Maybe I could try to uninstall all the software and install again but I'm not sure it's going to work and I would prefer to know what's happening so, if the other Lync Server fails (other environment, not the same pool), be able to fix it. The pool has just
one server and I'm not sure if I can "delete" the server and deploy it again keeping the information in the database about users, monitoring, etc.
Does anybody have an idea about what could be happening?
(Server was patched to last month updates)
    Thank you in advance.
    Kind regards.

Thank you for your reply, Eric.
I already tried something like that (renaming instead of deleting) but it didn't worked.
Actually, I have uninstalled Lync software and reinstalled again. Every service is starting but Front-End but it seems it's due to a known error. I'm trying to fix it in a couple of minutes.
    Kind regards.

  • Lync Server 2013 Deployment Log Error

Error: An error occurred: system.IO.FileNotfound.Exception, Could not find file \\local.sample.com\C$\CsData\CentralMgmtStore\rtc\DbPath.
I tried to publish the topology and it's giving this kind of error, I have also prepare another topology to publish and it's the same.
What do I need to do?
    Kindly help

OK I have done that but still the same
    Let me break it down
Here is what I did from the beginning.
    My active directory FQDN local.sample.com
so on my system the domain name is showing local.sample.com
    computer name xxxxx.local.sample.com
So I prepare launched Topology Builder
    Prepare New Topology
1st Step: Primary Sip Domain: sample.com
2nd Step: Front End Pool FQDN: local.sample.com
Created the Folder on the C/: gave it all the permissions
    3rd Step: Define File Store:
    File Server FQDN: local.sample.com
File Share: I removed the share and put the name of the new folder i created instead of going to delete it from the topology
4th Step: External Base Url: local.sample.com
    Finished
    On the Topology Builder
    Edited properties: set administrative access
Central Management Server: Selected sample.local.com   xxxxx
    Finished
    Then Published
    Giving the error code
What do you think I need to do? Have I made any mistakes during the setup?
Looking forward to hear from you.

  • Microsoft Lync Server 2013, Backup Service user store backup module detected items having pool ownership conflict during import.

    Dear Team,
I have two Enterprise lync 2013 pools, abcPool and abcpool1. abcPool1 has got two servers, Server1 and server2. and abcpool has one FE server named "Server 3". and they have pool pairing.
Replication was fine between them when i had only one FE server in each pool, one day FE service broke on one of the FE server on abcpool1 and failed to start so i had to do failover to another pool, at that time i introduced one more FE in abcPool1, that
why now 2 FEs in abcPool2. Server1 FE service was resolved by reinstalling the binaries. However after that im unable to get the backupservice state to normal, i tried the below articles with no luck,

  • Lync Server 2013 in a Remote Desktop Environment

    Hello Community,
We have a client who is sold on Lync. He wants to install Lync server in a Terminal Server but his environment is RDHS 2008v2 and his end users have thin clients. According to MS official position It is not supported. Has anyone successfully implemented
this ? If yes what are the pitfalls that lay ahead with regards to audio/video redirection, desktop sharing etc. He has traditional phones but really he wants to get rid of them and go Lync full blown.

    The Virtualizing Lync Server 2013
(WindowsITPro) article presents a nice overview to this topic.
In additon, do take a look at the following resources which may be helpful:
Planning a Lync Server 2013 Deployment on Virtual Servers
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41936
Deploying the Lync VDI plug-in in Lync Server 2013

Making the Microsoft Lync to work best in your virtualization environment
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiZX3uoVKV8
Note that unlike Lync Server 2010, the Lync 2013 VDI browser plug-in is designed to support VDI environments (with paired audio/video) running on supported platforms (from Windows Server 2008 R2 to 2012/R2).
    Hope this helps.

  • How to unattended deploy Lync Server 2013 administrative tools

    Hi all,
I'm trying to deploy the Lync Server 2013 administrative tools unattended but it seams not to be such easy as with other Microsoft products.
I have looked for Lync Server setup command options/Switches but didn't find anything.
Currently the only way it really works is by manually installing the administrative tools using normal deployment wizard.
I have obsorved that the wizard then executes in the backgroud (not transparent) a set of different tasks like preparation tasks, installs some MSIs from the setup folder (like SharedManagementObjects.msi, SQLSysClrTypes.msi) and it copies
    the Lync Powershell Module locally.
I'm trying to find a way where I can deploy only this Lync 2013 administrative Tools on a set of Administrators Workstation (Windows 7 clients) and on some Windows Server 2012 R2 Management Servers by using for example a Powershell script or any other way
... important is that I can install them unattended and distribute them via existing software distribution tool.
Is there really no way to install them unattended?

    Hi Sergio Verardo,
If I understand you correctly, the following steps for your reference.
    1. Installing all the required software that Anthony mentioned.
    2. Running the following command on target machine.
    Msiexec
     /i \\SharePath\admintools.msi /qn
I tested it and worked on my computer.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Enable new Child Domain in Lync Server 2013

    Hello All,
We are running Lync server 2013 in the Root Domain test.local. There are number of child domain enabled for Lync service . Eg: abc.test.local , xyz.test.local etc. Now i have a requirement to create new child domain and enable it for lync service.
So i created a new child domain (site1.test.local), then from lync shell i run below command to enable it.
    Enable-CsAdDomain
    –Domain site1.test.local –report c:\users\lyncadmin\Report1.html
Then i add the new SIP domain in topology builder in SIP doamin and
Simple URLs and publish the topology.
On AD all users are created in OU so i run below command to give privileges on OU:
    Grant-CsOUPermission -Domain site1.test.local -ObjectType "User" -OU "OU=SITEUsers,DC=Site1,DC=TEST,DC=LOCAL"
After all the step , when i try to login the new users, Users are not logging , in Lync client logs it is giving below error:
4005;reason="Destination URI either not enabled for SIP or does not exist";source="LYNCFE13-02.TEST.LOCAL"
Please help to solve this issue .

I can see my child domain accounts in Lync control panel (enable user section) and all accounts are enabled. If i run below command then it show result = failure. But my others account are working.
    PS C:\Users\administrator> Test-CSRegistration -UserSipAddress [email protected] -TargetFQDN xxxx.xxxx.localTarget Fqdn   : xxx.xxx.local Result: Failure Latency : 00:00:00Error Message : 504, Server time-out Diagnosis: ErrorCode=1045,Source=LYNCFE-00.xxxx.xxxx,Reason=Local edge server pool is out of service,port=5061,pool-size=2,pool=xxx-Edges.xxxx.local                Microsoft.Rtc.Signaling.DiagnosticHeader

  • Establishing Lync Server 2013 on a Child Domain

    Hi,
We want to establish Lync Server 2013 Enterprise Edition on a child-domain. I finished the installation. Now, if i add to users to child domain and enable from Lync Server Control Panel for test, users can be signed in. However, we use child domain for only
domain computers. We want to keep users on parent domain, not child domain.
I can enable users which are on parent domain, but users can not sign in. When i look Lync troobleshooting program, i got this error: "user is not sip enabled"
How can i solve this problem not adding users to child domain?

Check whether the SIP address is enabled for the user
    Get-CSUser -Identity <Alias>

Enable-CsUser –Identity "Raji" –RegistrarPool Pool01.Lync.com –SipAddress "sip:[email protected]" –SipDomain Lync.com
    Verify the output
    Get-CsAdUser | Select-Object DisplayName, SipAddress, UserPrincipalName
    Or
Construct a SIP address using the user’s SamAccountName and domain name
The SamAccountName is the user’s logon name: it’s the kenmyer portion of litwareinc\kenmyer. To use the SamAccountName as the SIP address use the –SipAddressType parameter followed by the parameter value SamAccountName:
Enable-CsUser –Identity "Ken Myer" –RegistrarPool atl-cs-001.litwareinc.com –SipAddressType SamAccountName –SipDomain litwareinc.com
Note that you also need to include the –SipDomain parameter followed by the appropriate SIP domain. With both FirstLastName and SamAccountName you must explicitly indicate the SIP domain; Enable-CsUser won’t try to make a “best guess” at determining the domain
    name for you.
Use the user’s email address as his or her SIP address
This is kind of a nice option: it simply grabs the user’s email address and uses that same value for his SIP address. (That way, users have just one address to remember.) To use this option, simply include the –SipAddressType parameter followed by the parameter
    value EmailAddress:
Enable-CsUser –Identity "Ken Myer" –RegistrarPool atl-cs-001.litwareinc.com –SipAddressType EmailAddress

  • Deploy licences for Lync server 2013

    Hi Guys,
How can i apply or how to put the Licences on Lync server 2013 i have a test lab Lync Server 2013 and i want to put the License on it how to do that? or is it possible i need another installation for it?
    Thank you,
This forum really helps a lot.

Agree with Anthony, the only other scenario is if you want to upgrade from the Evaluation to the full version in which case you need a copy of the full version media and follow the steps below:
Insert or mount your full version media on your Lync server.
    Open Lync Server Management Shell
Run Get-CsServerVersion to display the current version
    Run msiexec /fvomus server.msi EVALTOFULL=1 /qb
You may be prompted to specify the location of server.msi (which can be found in the Setup\amd64\Setup\ folder on your installation media.
Run Get-CsServerVersion to confirm the conversion  was successful.
    Run Enable-CsComputer
