Lync Server 2013 federation not working

Hi all,
setting up Lync in my lab.One Front End server and one edge server.
Local ip is:
Front End Lync server : 192.168.0.5
Edge server: 192.168.0.8
In my router i forwarded port 5061 to Front End server.
Trying to federate With my work , and added it to Federated domain there and also in my Lync environment.Still status in Lync is presence unknown.Internally everything Works fine. When i sign in With Lab account from work it Works fine.
What am i missing here?Tried to port fwd 5061 to my edge server, but it didnt help either.
Any tips?
thanks!

Hi,
Would you please elaborate more about federation environment?
Which federation type did you choose?
I see the IP of FE server and Edge server in one subnet, did you deploy Edge server in DMZ zone?
You can check the configuration of federation with the help of the link below:

• Lync Server 2010 conference not working with Windows 8.1 and IE 10

Hello,
The problem is that whenever a Windows 8.1 user tries to join a Lync server 2010 conference using Internet Explorer 10 (or 11, tried that too) the user can't join the conference. If the conference is created by a Lync server 2013 user joining works fine.
When using Lync 2010 client we get the following error in the client: "error id 87 source id 7".
When using Lync 2013 client we end up with a blank conversation window.
There are no traces in server log, client log or event log.
Below is a set of use cases that may help you to understand what is the problem scenario. Each of these works or does not work with both Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 client.
- Lync server 2010 conference, windows 7, Chrome, Firefox, IE 10 or 11 --> Works.
- Lync server 2010 conference, windows 8.1, IE 10 or 11 --> Does not work.
- Lync server 2010 conference, windows 8.1, Chrome or Firefox --> Works.
- Lync server 2013 conference, windows 8.1, Chrome, Firefox, IE 10 or 11 --> Works.
It does not help to add the meet address to IE compatibility list (Compatibility View Settings).
If i press F12 in IE and change the document mode of the meet page to IE 9 version then i can join meetings with Windows 8.1 and IE 10. Unfortunately i cannot make that as a default setting for the meet website.
Any ideas on how to get Lync server 2010 meetings working with Windows 8.1 and IE 10 or 11?
IE is the company default browser. Windows 8.1 is not a default operating system but we have increasing number of Windows 8.1 computers in our environment (mainly directors).

According to your description, it is hard to tell whether the issue is related with IE or Lync Server 2010 or both.
Compare the log when Lync client on Window 8.1 with IE 10 or IE 11 join Lync server 2010 conferencing and Lync Server 2013 conferencing.

• PowerView In Project Server 2013 is not working

Hi All,
I am working on environment with Project Server 2013. In report part i am not able to see or view only power view reports.
I am testing this with default report provided by Microsoft, where other reports (power pivot) are working fine.
My power view report is not showing any error, it is simply gets opened as blank sheet.
Quick replies and help will be appreciated.
Note: I have installed silver light latest version too.
Thanks
Abbas

I am also experiencing issues with this. After the approval task is completed, the Workflow gets cancelled with the following message
RequestorId: 60d96368-4cb4-b059-8086-604972a92e60. Details: System.Collections.Generic.KeyNotFoundException: The given key was not present in the dictionary. at Microsoft.Activities.Hosting.Runtime.Subroutine.SubroutineChild.Execute(CodeActivityContext context)
at System.Activities.CodeActivity.InternalExecute(ActivityInstance instance, ActivityExecutor executor, BookmarkManager bookmarkManager) at System.Activities.Runtime.ActivityExecutor.ExecuteActivityWorkItem.ExecuteBody(ActivityExecutor executor, BookmarkManager
bookmarkManager, Location resultLocation)
All other desired workflow actions work as expected. Emails are sent, project is moved from stage to stage, however as soon as the workflow approval task is completed, either Approved or Rejected, the Internal Status is changed to Canceled and the
workflow fails.
What is interesting is when the Approval task is completed, the approver will receive an email notification that the task was CANCELLED or DELETED....
not COMPLETED, which is what would be expected.
Has anyone seen this - any potential resolution?

• Lync Server 2013 Backend DR

Hi
My topology is as follow:
I have 2 sites: Main and DR.
In those 2 sites, I have 2 pools with 3 FE (For HA) in each pool; configured in Paired Pool (For Dr).
I also have SQL mirroring configured (for HA) on both site with 3 SQL servers in each site (Primary, mirroring and Witness
My question is if all three SQL Servers are down in Main site, But all 3 FEs in Main site are up. What is recommended, Available and best solution for Backend DR?
As both Pools are up so i do not want to do Pool failed over when my backed is down if that make sense.
Thanks

Thanks Anthony, I agree with you.
But i am looking for the SQL Backend DR Solution for Lync Server 2013. your purpose solution will resolve the SQL issue by starting the Lync Server 2013 Frontend DR Solution.
i have looked all blogs and technet, all say SQL Cluster and mirroring is for backend SQL HA. But i am unable to find any Backend DR Solution.
does it mean Lync Server 2013 do not have DR solution for Backend? if backend SQL down the only solution is Pool Failover? any other option?
Thanks

• Persistent Chat (Lync Server 2013) with Lync 2010 Group Chat

I have successfully deployed Lync Server 2013 and both 2013 and 2010 desktop clients connect and function as expected.
The problem is with Persistent Chat. It works perfectly with the 2013 desktop client but - whilst 2010 Group Chat connects - I receive the error message "The [LOGON_DOMAIN] is not available". No chat rooms are available and I am unable to search.
I have been unable to locate anything on the web which discusses the problem.
I do not know whether this makes a difference but the 2010 clients use terminals rather than dedicated workstations.
Can anyone shed any light on what the problem may be?

Have you created a CsPersistentChatEndpoint to allow the Group Chat client (2010) to connect to Persistent
Chat server? Please take a look at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204901.aspx

• Office Web Apps server / Lync server 2013

Hi I have installed a Lync 2013 Server and Office Web Apps Server. Configured Lync topology, Office Web Apps farm and certificates.
However when i start the services i get this error message in the log saying Office Web Apps discovery failed.
Event ID: 41033
Description:
Office Web Apps Server (WAC) discovery failed, PowerPoint content is disabled.
Attempted Office Web Apps Server discovery Url:
Received error message: Invalid Uri syntax for WAC configuration
The number of retries: 1,
Cause: Office Web Apps Server may be unavailable or network connectivity may have been compromised.
Resolution:
Check HTTPS connectivity from this box to the Office Web Apps Server deployment using the discovery Url.
I can access the OWAS server Url from Lync Server
Connecting to the HTTPS discovery URL is working fine, and brings up the XML-page (after i click "show all content").
The two servers are located on the same internal network, DNS resolves fine both ways, and no firewall rules blocks any connections between the two. Can anyone please help me figure this out?
Only identical problem found online is here (Invalid Uri syntax for WAC configuration):
http://blogs.technet.com/b/dodeitte/archive/2012/09/10/office-web-apps-server-amp-lync-server-2013.aspx
He resolved the problem by assigning a new OAuthTokenIssuer certificate. This however did not fix the problem in my case.
Regards
Sverre A. Veel

Hi,
In addition, please make sure you have restarted front end and office web apps server after reissuing the certificate.

• How do I enforce "Show My Picture" instead of "Hide My Picture" in Lync Server 2013?

I was scouring TechNet and the web for a script that could perform the same task as one that I previously used for Lync 2010.
In Lync 2010, we had already used Lync policy to enforce that only the Active Directory photo could be used. One thing that we couldn't set via policy however was the ability to complete remove the "Hide My Picture" option in Lync 2010 client.
This left users with the ability to freely switch between showing the Corporate photo or no photo. I did eventually find and make use of script that constantly checked for this setting switch, then switched all users back to the desired "Show My Picture"
setting. I don't recall who wrote it, but it's easy to find on technet. As we started to move more and more users to our Lync 2013 enterprise pool, I noted that even though the script was running, the setting seemed to be changeable. A closer look revealed
that the script didn't function correctly against SQL for our 2013 pool.
I took the concept and applied it to Lync Server 2013 after studying the differences in Userdata. In Lync 2013, because UserData is in .zip, you need to convert it to 2010 format XML to use logic intended for Lync 2010. My script will extract 2013 data,
convert it to 2010, query for users who are set to "Hide My Picture" and then export any guilty users to an edited2010 XML. The script then converts this to 2013 Format .zip, and uploads the data for these users only. I chose to use Update-CSUserData
insted of Import-CSUserData as this avoids having to restart my Front End. I then use a scheduled task on my Front End server which runs this script every hour.
Please note: You can use this script, but I guarantee nothing about it's functionality, and I am not responsible for how you positively/negatively use it. You should always test things in a Lab Environment. Furthermore, this script was run on a relatively
smaller Enterprise system in which we are by default set to "Show My Picture" and already assigned as part of our user policy the ForceADPhoto attribute. This means that running the script is less intensive on my FE than say on a FE with 10,000 users
where none of the users were set to "Show My Picture". Please keep this in mind when planning to execute against your FE. You may want to edit my script and insert the -UserFilter or -WhatIf in the Export-CsUserData UpDate-CsUserData.
Anyways, I hope this solves the similar issue for many of you Lync 2013 administrators. Please feel free to share my work with others if it does, and also give this post some good feedback and/or mark my post as the answer to your problem.
Alas, here's the script (save it as a .ps1 , i.e. ForceShowMyPicture.ps1)

• Telephone numbers (officePhone and homePhone) are missing in a contact card in a Lync Server 2013-based Lync mobile client

In my opinion, the error has not completely fixed in KB2967628. After I install the latest November 2014 cumulative
update. I see the following behavior. User A searches for user B. User B never sign in to the Link. There are three fields in the active directory for User B: officePhone, mobilePhone and homePhone (these fields contain different numbers). When searching on
the mobile client (Android/IOS) for user B – as result user A see only mobile number. If User B At least once will go to Link (sign in) when his search will work, (find officePhone). If User B will change, the privacy settings for user A is in the search will
be displayed homePhone field.
On the Desktop client,
I can find all the fields without those actions performed in the example. If I make a request
to the service UCWA manually like this (below
the text) before
actions, which I performed in example, I did not receive officePhone and homePhone – only mobilePhone field.
GET "https://lync.domainname:443/ucwa/oauth/v1/applications/XXXX/people/search?query=$usename$&limit=200" -H "Content-Type: application/json" -H "Accept: application/json" -H "Authorization: $USENAMETOKEN$"

Hi,
Based on your description, I’m sorry I’m a little confused about the following you mentioned. I understand the issue is we can only see the mobile number in the contact card on Lync mobile client and that we can search for users based on their office number,
we can see the home phone field in the contact card but there isn’t number showing. I anything I have misunderstood, please feel free to let us know.

According to the KB29677628, this issue is caused by UCWA only sending the work number, and we need to install the update for web components server

• Microsoft Lync Server 2013 Control Panel "Navigation to the webpage was canceled"

i'm facing this issue on the last 2 days.My Lync server 2013 was seted up a month ago and everything went fine on the installation.
Lync server 2013 on Windows 2008R2 SP1.
I could login to the Control Panel (using domain administrator credentials), create users (including myself) manage clients etc.
i didn't login to Lync server for at least a week, beacause i didin't have any other user to add. When time came to add a new user to Lync, i got this error whenever i try to open Control Panel.
i didn't change anything during this time, so i'm really confused by this.
i've checked everything from the start and all seem to be in place.
i also can't open the admin page from the local host as i get an error
HTTP error 403.4 - Fobidden.
i tried also to create new certificates for Lync server, but issue remains.
Also, any solutions i've read for this problem doesn't work as everything is placed correct as other users suggest.
Can anyone please help me further?
Cheers,
Elias

Ok I had the same problem, I missconfigured the admin simple url in topology builder (TB) which I fixed. Also the default certificate in the FE server did not have a SAN entry for the "admin" simple url (which was an error).
So I corrected the admin address in TB republised it, redid step two on the FE, reissued adn replaced the old cert. The new cert had the corrected admin simple url. Checked IIS on the server and made sure that the internal web server had the
right certificate, restarted IIS.
The default Lync control pannel still did not come up, I rebooted the server, the closest I got was being prompt for my credential which it did not accept.
Finally control pannel came up with https://localhost/cscp but I got prompted becuase of a certificate missmatch:
but it still worked!!! Very very wierd. I have not changed CA servers. I am interested about why this happened....

Hi
That link works fine, did you register at all as the sites requests? Once you have registered it will give you the option to download with a download manager.
Do you get this far?

• How to unattended deploy Lync Server 2013 administrative tools

Hi all,
I'm trying to deploy the Lync Server 2013 administrative tools unattended but it seams not to be such easy as with other Microsoft products.
I have looked for Lync Server setup command options/Switches but didn't find anything.
Currently the only way it really works is by manually installing the administrative tools using normal deployment wizard.
I have obsorved that the wizard then executes in the backgroud (not transparent) a set of different tasks like preparation tasks, installs some MSIs from the setup folder (like SharedManagementObjects.msi, SQLSysClrTypes.msi) and it copies
the Lync Powershell Module locally.
I'm trying to find a way where I can deploy only this Lync 2013 administrative Tools on a set of Administrators Workstation (Windows 7 clients) and on some Windows Server 2012 R2 Management Servers by using for example a Powershell script or any other way
... important is that I can install them unattended and distribute them via existing software distribution tool.
Is there really no way to install them unattended?

Hi Sergio Verardo,
If I understand you correctly, the following steps for your reference.
1. Installing all the required software that Anthony mentioned.
2. Running the following command on target machine.
Msiexec
/i \\SharePath\admintools.msi /qn
I tested it and worked on my computer.
Best regards,

• Lync Server 2013 in a Remote Desktop Environment

Hello Community,
We have a client who is sold on Lync. He wants to install Lync server in a Terminal Server but his environment is RDHS 2008v2 and his end users have thin clients. According to MS official position It is not supported. Has anyone successfully implemented
this ? If yes what are the pitfalls that lay ahead with regards to audio/video redirection, desktop sharing etc. He has traditional phones but really he wants to get rid of them and go Lync full blown.

The Virtualizing Lync Server 2013
(WindowsITPro) article presents a nice overview to this topic.
In additon, do take a look at the following resources which may be helpful:

Note that unlike Lync Server 2010, the Lync 2013 VDI browser plug-in is designed to support VDI environments (with paired audio/video) running on supported platforms (from Windows Server 2008 R2 to 2012/R2).
Hope this helps.

• How to reinstall Lync server 2013 Core Component Server Applications

Hi Would like to know how to register back the core server applications and where can i find the priority list. I incidentally
removed the server applications (ClientVersionFilter, IIMFilter, VoIP Apps and EumRouting and Outbouding) when i removed my MSPL script application from the pool. I missed out to put my script
app name after pool name when i run the command remove-cstrustedapplication. Then, it removed all the core apps from that pool.
I found that .am files and .exe files are still in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2013\Core and tried
to register back using cmdlets but not very sure about the priority of the apps. Or can I install RTCHost.exe? Now Outgoing call is not working. Please kindly help. Thanks in Advance.

Oh.. thank you very much both
Saleesh and Eric. I will try it.
What I did is that I used the cmdlets New-CsServerApplication and registered the server apps (checked the server apps
list from testing fe server) like how I register MSPL script app. But I may miss out some components since testing fe server uses Standard Edition. I registered my
MSPL script app back too, but after a while Lync Front End Service keeps on stopping. I am not sure that
MSPL script or missing components which one causes to stop front end service. Now I am checking the event viewer logs.
If I run add-remove Lync component wizard on the server, will it remove any other settings like removing users from
pool? or it just install/unstall lync server core components only?
Many thanks!

• How to run a Lync Server 2013 in amazon ec2 Instance ?

Hi Friends,
I would like to install a Lync server 2013 in amazon ec2 instance. Let me know can i install Active Directory server, Lync Server 2013 and Media server in a single amazon instance ?. If it possible how can i do it ?. And is any other features need to install
to get the fully functional Lync server. Please help me am newbie in Lync environment

You can get Lync working in EC2 and I have lab'd his many times. Having said that the process isn't that straight forward (especially if you plan to do voice) a lot of planning and testing, specifically of the network would need to be undertaken.
You can add multiple interfaces to an EC2 instance (see here http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/using-eni.html)
If you're hard set on using EC2 you can get it to work, but I personally would look at Office 365 E4 or a small on-premise deployment depending on your requirements.

• Enable new Child Domain in Lync Server 2013

Hello All,
We are running Lync server 2013 in the Root Domain test.local. There are number of child domain enabled for Lync service . Eg: abc.test.local , xyz.test.local etc. Now i have a requirement to create new child domain and enable it for lync service.
So i created a new child domain (site1.test.local), then from lync shell i run below command to enable it.
Enable-CsAdDomain
–Domain site1.test.local –report c:\users\lyncadmin\Report1.html
Then i add the new SIP domain in topology builder in SIP doamin and
Simple URLs and publish the topology.
On AD all users are created in OU so i run below command to give privileges on OU:
Grant-CsOUPermission -Domain site1.test.local -ObjectType "User" -OU "OU=SITEUsers,DC=Site1,DC=TEST,DC=LOCAL"
After all the step , when i try to login the new users, Users are not logging , in Lync client logs it is giving below error:
4005;reason="Destination URI either not enabled for SIP or does not exist";source="LYNCFE13-02.TEST.LOCAL"
Please help to solve this issue .

I can see my child domain accounts in Lync control panel (enable user section) and all accounts are enabled. If i run below command then it show result = failure. But my others account are working.
PS C:\Users\administrator> Test-CSRegistration -UserSipAddress [email protected] -TargetFQDN xxxx.xxxx.localTarget Fqdn : xxx.xxx.local Result: Failure Latency : 00:00:00Error Message : 504, Server time-out Diagnosis: ErrorCode=1045,Source=LYNCFE-00.xxxx.xxxx,Reason=Local edge server pool is out of service,port=5061,pool-size=2,pool=xxx-Edges.xxxx.local Microsoft.Rtc.Signaling.DiagnosticHeader
Other accounts are giving SUCCESS msg and running without any issue.
