Lync - SIP Location Service

Curently I have a deep look into the implentation of the SIP protocol in Lync.
There is one question I cannot answer by reading the official SIP RFC (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3665).
I found a good article about address another SIP subscriber.
So far anything is clear for me:
UserA wants to communicate with UserB. He sends an INVITE to his related Proxy1 with the logical SIP address of UserB. The Proxy1 try to convert the logical into a physical address (IP address of User2) by using his location service.
He will get the physical location and redirect the INVITE to UserB.
UserA --> Proxy1 ---> UserB

           Location Service
Location Server
"Each SIP domain has a location server. This server administers e.g. information on the bindings of logical and physical SIP addresses.
Location servers often operate on the same platform as the associated registrar server."
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/api/content/SSKTXQ_8.0.0/com.ibm.help.sametime.telephony.doc/03-Technologien9.html
So here are my questions related to Lync:
"Each SIP domain has a location server."
This isnt the case in Lync. Each registrar (Proxy) will store the location information of each homed user. If I have multible registrars, An INVITE from an User1 homed on Registrar1 will be redirected to the Registrar2 of the other User2. Registrar2
will look for the physical location of User2 by asking his location service. This means Registrar1 doesnt have the information about the physical location of User2, only the information about the related Registrar (Registrar2) of User2. Am I right?
Where is the physical address information stored on the registrar?
Thanks in advanced for your help,
Augustin

In Lync or OCS we have the concept of pool say User 1 is enabled for Pool1 and User 2 is enabled for pool 2
When user1 tried to send a message to user2 it check if user 2 has supported sip domain if yes The it will check in AD where it has all Sip enabled user information for which pool User 2 is enabled ofr and then forward the request to that pool
Where is the physical address information stored on the registrar? In case of Lync it is the SQL database

  • IPhone 6 location services/gps not working

Anyone else have an issue with iPhone 6 location services/gps not working? I have had it happen to me twice where it stopped working for good 7 or 8 hours and then all of sudden it starts working again. For example, directions don't work, every time I open Apple Maps it will say "Cannot determine location", then when I press the location icon on the bottom left, it will try to search again and have an approximate location but not exact, where as the iPad that I have right next to it is able to pin point the exact location. Sometimes the location circle is pulsing blue sometimes its gray. If I am driving and have tracking on it won't track, and so on.  I have tried to setup the phone as new without restoring the backup, when it stopped working with no luck, it still didn't work. I went and restore it back from backup and few hours later it started to work again. This has happened twice now since I got the phone last Friday.

Check your "Privacy" settings on your iPhone see what apps are using your location.

  • Left my phone in the movie theatre..what do I do? how do i contact location services?

I just left my phone in the movies...and now they are closed!  how do I contact location services to make sure it is still there?

If you were running iOS 5 or higher, had enabled iCloud and Find My iPhone before losing it, you can go to icloud.com on your computer and try to locate it as outlined here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmfc0f2442.  If it's turned on, still has Find My iPhone enabled, and has a connection to the internet, it should appear on the map.
If you didn't enable Find My iPhone before losing it you won't be able to locate it.

  • Location services shows wrong location

I have an iPhone 5 with latest iOS. I live in Kennesaw GA. I installed xfinity Internet at my new home.
When my phone is connected to wifi, it shows the current location as charleston SC.   This is for any app that uses the GPS.
My wife has an iPhone 4S with latest iOS and her current location is correct when connected to wifi.
So I find it strange that my phone shows my current location as Charleston.
When I turn off the wifi, the current location is correct.
If anyone has experienced the same problem please respond.

    Improving GPS accuracy
GPS accuracy varies depending on the number of visible GPS satellites. Locating all visible satellites can take several minutes, with accuracy gradually increasing over time. Use these tips to improve GPS accuracy:
Ensure the date, time, and time zone are correctly set on the device in Settings > General > Date & Time. If possible, use Set Automatically.
Important: Incorrect settings on your computer can sync to your device. Verify the date, time, and time zone on any computer that syncs with your device.
    Restart your device.
Verify that you have a cellular or Wi-Fi network connection. This allows the Assisted GPS (A-GPS) on the device to locate visible GPS satellites faster, in addition to providing initial location information using the Wi-Fi or cellular networks.
Note: Microcells (sometimes called Femtocells) are not supported with Location Services.
Maintain a clear view of the horizon in several directions. Keep in mind that walls, vehicle roofs, tall buildings, mountains, and other obstructions can block line of sight to GPS satellites. When this occurs, your device will automatically use Wi-Fi or cellular networks to determine your position, until the GPS satellites are visible again.

  • How do i use location service to ind my iphone?

how do i use location service to find my lost iphone?

Silica Gel usually comes in a porous bag within a perforated box. Put the bag and the phone in a ziplock bag together. If you buy loose silica gel just put it in the plastic bag, then put the phone on top of it. Try not to get the grains of silica gel in the openings on the phone, as it will be hard to get out.

You don't in the condition it's in. You will either have to get the phone replaced by Apple or pay a 3rd party to repair it.
there seriously should be more than two ways to solve this other wise apple is useless and we will never buy another apple product.
    Seriously? It's physically broken!

  • IOS 8.1.2 Location Services constantly being used

There is a bug with 8.1.2 and I am not sure where to report it.
Location services is constantly in use.
The System Services settings I disabled were apparently reenabled with the iOS 8.1.2 update and this is killing the battery on my iPad 3.
I have a solution but really this should not be happening in the first place so where do I log this bug?

You can see which app is using location services here: Settings > Privacy > Location Services.
Apps with a purple arrow next to them are using your location services.

IF the device does NOT have a cracked screen or liquid damage and is in hardware warrenty.. apple can repair/replace the device for free.
Call apple tech to find out what your croverage is for fixing that button
IF IT DOES then you will pay a fee for repairing

  • Performance Issues with Location Services

I am having performance lag issues with most apps with location services turned on. This is a new issue that has crept up after update to iOS 4.2.1. Apps get slow and upon exiting the location service is still active as indicated by arrow icon in top right of screen. Any recommendation short of killing all location services? Note this even occurs in apple apps such as photos.

Have you tried basics from the manual?
    restart.
    reset.
    restore.

  • The problem with ALAssetsLibrary and Location Services

I have developed a photo app for the iPhone, released a couple of days ago, that's doing rather good in the App Store, but would probably do a lot better if it weren't for the negative reviews saying that they can't understand why the app wants access to Location Services to be able to select photos from the photo gallery.
The app lets users select photos from their gallery, which they then can style and edit in different ways. To do this I use the ALAssetsLibrary class. So far so good. The problem with the ALAssetsLibrary class is that if I wish to use it to access photos on the device, the user must give the app access to Location Services, as well. Why, you ask? Well, because photos in the gallery might possibly include information on when and where the photo was taken. If the user doesn't give the app access to Location Services, the app won't be able to access the photos at all.
In my app I'm not interested in the location services data at all - I just want the user to be able to select photos. But as far as I know there is just no way to read photos without Location Services enabled. As a developer I can sort of buy this limitation - because I understand why it exists - but apparently my users can not. And as a user myself I have to agree with them. Why on earth do they/I have to allow the app to access Location services for me to be able to select photos? It doesn't make sense!
At the moment I'm getting a lot of negative reviews saying "I downloaded and deleted. The app wants access to Location Services when I try to select a photo. This seems fishy. Don't download it". I agree. It DOES seem fishy, but I couldn't care less about their location data, and although I try to inform the user about this in the app, a lot of people doesn't seem to care, or understand why this is the way it is.
So, what's the point of this rant? Well, to start with, wouldn't it be better if iOS asked something like "This app needs access to your photos" instead of "This app needs access to your location", when using the ALAssetsLibrary?
Also, instead of using the ALAssetsLibrary I could have used the UIImagePickerController - if only it had supported landscape orientation. Why, why, WHY doesn't it? My app is landscape only, and therefore I had to build my own image picker functionality, instead of using the default one. Portrait only is a very stupid limitation, if you ask me.
Finally, is there SOME way at all to access the photos on the device without requiring Location Services as well?
    Thank you for listening,
    Andreas Lindahl
    Rodskagg

Unfortunately, there is no way to directly access the photo library without prompting the user for Location Services permission. I just posted an article on my blog about this very issue (and referenced your post): http://blog.mikeswanson.com/post/18269837647/location-services. I hope that this situation can be improved in a future release of iOS.

  • HT5467 How to change the location service set up when the icon is not inactive?

I can not setting up the location services and change individual location service for each application since the icon are all in the dead icon and I cannot change anything. Is there anyway to make those icons in active?

Here is what I was referring to - when in Control Center, I have the database locations. (sources, targets, OWF etc). Under a database location I selected the connector/location name under Connectors. When I select Deploy Action to Drop the connector/location name will remain. However, if you were to check in the database or the Repository Browser (Locations Report) you will see that the db link is gone. At this point you can safely modify the Locations info in the Connection Explorer (in Design Center). On the other hand, if you want the location to be deleted all together then now you can delete it in the Connection Explorer panel. If you did the prior drop step then at this point all db link info should be gone from the database.

  • Location services don't work even though they are on

My location services do not work even though they are switched on. When I ask Siri something that requires my location it tells me to turn on location services and Siri but they are already on.

For location the iPod uses the location nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's data base. You do not have to be connect to the router.
Thus, it appears that the router the iPod is using does not have the correct location in Apple's database. Apple continuously updates their database based on data it obtains from iPhones. No one has found a way to tell apple to correct/add a wifi router to their database.
To test this, go to another location/another network like Starbucks and see if location work there

How do I add my new iPhone4s to iCloud's "Find my iPhone"? I followed the iCloud instructions and turned on Macbook Pros' system prefs to "find my mac", turned on iPhone4s's "location services" and set up iCloud, etc. In the "Find my iphone" tab of my new iCloud account (on my Macbook Pro) my iPhone4s still won't show—but my macbook does show. I had my iPhone4s set up at the phone store (2 days ago) and It receives gmail, my contacts and calender entries, the weather, etc. I installed the "Find iPhone" app from iTunes on the iPhone4s, synched to iTunes, even reset the phone, but the only device that gets located is my Macbook Pro. I can send a "sound" message to my Mac (and the Mac recieves it) but unable to see the iPhone4s from my Mac, let alone send any message. Any suggestions to get the iPhone4s device to appear in iCloud?
Thank you in advance for your help.

OK, I figured it out...I deleted the iCloud account off my iPhone (Settings, iCloud, Delete Account), and then added iCloud back in (Settings, iCloud, SignIn)....and then my email (iCloud) and "Find my phone" features worked! Nice!!!!

  • TS4006 Can you remotely switch on location services from one device to another?

I have lost my iPhone with its location services switched off so when trying to use the find my iPhone facility it does not trace it displayijng the message Location services disabled. Can any one urgently help?

you shouldn't have to transfer the Apple Care because it is an insurance on the iPod
    No, it is not insurance.
and since it will cover stolen iPods
It does not cover replacement of a stolen iPod.
if should be transfered automatically because, also in theory, it is the same iPod.
There's no "theory" to it at all. It is the same iPod.
AppleCare is purchased for a specific iPod. The AppleCare stays with that iPod.

  • How can I turn on the Location service of my iPad 2 32 GB?

I just bought an iPad 2 and iPhone 4 yestersday.
I want to turn on the location services on my iPad 2 32 GB. When I go to settings > Location Services, I saw it was off then i tried to turn it on, but however, the on and off slide is grey.... that means I cannot slide the location services from off to on.
    What can I do then?
I check already , the internet connection is fine.
I try with my iPhone 4 with the same network same place.....but it works properly.
Anyone experiencing the same problem with me?
    Any solutions?

Are you sure your iPad has an active wifi connection when you're trying to use location services?  If it is connected, then go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset network settings. If that fails then try rebooting the device by pressing and holding the on/off and home buttons simultaneously until the screen goes blank and you see the apple logo. It should take about 10-15 seconds to reboot.
