Lync- Skype Screen Sharing

Can we use Lync Client (with Lync Infrastructure) to connect to remote Skype users : yes
Can we then use the Skype screen sharing feature to see the remote user screen in our Lync Client : ??
Can we then CONTROL the remote Skype screen using our Lync Client : ??.
Our client does not allow the installation of binaries we are suggesting (Lync Client) and prefers a generic software I-e Skype on their end. And we want to do some troubleshooting on their machines by remote.
We looking forward to alternatives to TeamViewer that we are currently using for the same purpose.

Desktop Sharing between Skype and Lync is not currently available.
Your clients could use a browser and connect to a Lync meeting using the Lync Web App to share their screen: http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/lync-help/join-a-lync-meeting-from-lync-web-app-HA102828539.aspx

  • Lync 2010 Screen sharing issues.

hi all i am working on resolving a long standing problem that i have inherited form the previous admin.
our Lync2010 infrastructure for the most part works great the only issue being when external users trying to do screen sharing and file transfers.
after doing some testing with sharing and file transfers with at different locations this is what i have found.
    Internal ---> Internal ---- Works
Internal ---> External ---- not work
    Internal ---> External(On VPN) ---- work
External ---> Internal ---- not work
External ---> External ---- not work
    i checked the infrastructure setup.
Public DNS A record AV.extdomain.com that points to an IP of our firewall
Firewall then NATS's the traffic on that IP to an IP allocated to the  NIC on the edge server in the DMZ over ports 443 / 3478 / 50000 - 59999
    AV.domain.com ---> xxx.xxx.183.117 ---> xxx.xxx.112.117 443/3478/50000-59900 (TCP + UDP)
oddly when monitoring this i cant see any traffic flowing on this rule (this could be the issue)
having reviewed some of my logs i found this entry with Snooper
ms-client-diagnostics: 23; reason="Call failed to establish due to a media connectivity failure when one endpoint is internal and the other is remote";CallerMediaDebug="application-sharing:ICEWarn=0x80020,LocalSite=10.26.160.198:4481,RemoteSite=192.168.254.147:1552,PortRange=1025:65000,LocalLocation=1,RemoteLocation=2,FederationType=0"
    Content-Length: 0
i also cant telnet onto the public IP of av.extdomain.com xxx.xxx.183.117 over 443 or 3478 or any of the others ports.
am i right in thinking that AV ip address should be accepting connections over those ports and as it is not that's my problem?
i may have answered it my self just wanted a 2nd opinion.
    Many thanks
    Gordon

Some quick thoughts: Make sure those ports are bi-directional, meaning you have access both out and back in.  Make sure the NAT for those IPs works in both directions, meaning that if you nat 183.117 incoming to 112.117, then 112.117 on the way back
out looks like 183.117.  Make sure that 3478 is UDP, not TCP.  Take those ports all the way up to 59,999.
All that said, you should be able to telnet to av.domain.com on 443 from the outside and get a connection.  You won't get a result from a web browser as this isn't https, but a telnet should at least connect.  You won't be able to telnet to 3478
because that's UDP, the other ports are dynamic so don't worry about them for now.
Check out James Cussen's tool here for port testing:

Is there still the same rule: limitation to max 3 other private  users?

I was using Lync as part of the offerings found on Office 365 and I was prompted to "upgrade" to Skype for Business and so I did per the suggestion. Lync had screen sharing, Skype for Business currently does not have screen sharing! This is a major dissapointment. Who is the product manager and why the premature roll-out? This is incredebly frustrating as most all my clients leverage Lync (their own install on their servers... have not upgraded yet.. lucky for them) and screen sharing is an important part of my interaction. It took many of my clients a long time to master Lync and therefore, it is incredebly challenging to teach them how to use an alternative tool over the phone. I feel incridebly duped. My clients can share with me however, I cannot share with them. What is the current timeframe for enabling (re-enabling) this functionality? How can I get back Lync? Is there a beta release of the next version? Finally, how can this be called "Skype for Business" when a core aspect of the tool to conduct "business" had been stripped away without warning?

  • Remote Screen Sharing (VNC) from outside of my LAN

I often have to connect to my parents' Macs to help them out with various things. I commute between two cities and stay with them when I'm there.
(I set up a dynamic hostname with DynDNS to point to our router, which defaults to port 443, which on the home network is reserved for the QNAP NAS that's set up. I set the router up to be reachable at port 455 but I'm not sure if it is successfully sending IP address updates to DynDNS. I don't see a way to check if it is. DynDNS seems to require a paid account for that functionality and my routers log is also not very helpful. In short, I'm having trouble getting the whole dynamic DNS thing to work reliably with our router, which is otherwise a great little box: a Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7390).
I use Jolly's Fast VNC (http://goo.gl/UmllQ) to connect to a personal server and that works wonderfully, but then there the details are taken care of for me by my provider and I just have to type in the details.
What I'd really love is something like Edovia's Screens (http://www.edovia.com/)... except for the Mac rather than the iPhone/iPad (though I do own an iPhone copy of it and it's wonderful).
We do share a MobileMe subscription in the family, but that's not very helpful here either.
So far, we've used iChat, Skype screen sharing and I often end up using TeamViewer because of its speed and near non-existant setup.
My goal is to find a way to connect to my parents' Macbooks even when they are not around so I can help them out with problems while they may not even be around. The key here is that I want to be able to control their screens without needing any action on their part.
Suggestions for the simplest possible way to do this are very welcome.

I didn't know TeamViewer could be set up to be accessible without a second user having to be around to give me the session ID and password. I wonder if it's worth looking into that if LogMeIn Free with its server always running is a perfectly acceptable solution? Any advantages to using TeamViewer's solution?
The free LogMeIn account does NOT allow file transfer. The free for personal use TeamViewer does.
LogMeIn server hides in the background, so it is less likely your parents will Quit LogMeIn.com, were as TeamViewer looks like just another app, so they might Quit from it to get it out of the way.
Of course if you need to transfer a file (or 2), you could use DropBox.com for that, and it is a very easy way to transfer files between systems. Or you could store the file on your MobileMe account in a public place, then via LogMeIn copy the file from your public space into your Parent's Mac(s). Or your could use LogMeIn to start TeamViewer, and then use TeamViewer to transfer the file.
Basically once you can start applications on your Parent's Mac(s), you can use any number of utilities for transferring data.
We do have MobileMe. I was under the impression that the way Back to my Mac works is that it will show you YOUR remote Macs in the Finder's sidebar. You know, ones that you're also logged in with YOUR MobileMe credentials. We all use our own, unique MobileMe accounts. Am I missing something?
Yes, all the Macs would need to use the same MobileMe account. Do you all really need separate accounts? Maybe a Family account.
I could deal with the port forwarding and DynDNS but I'll have to set that up to remotely administer my router and NAS, which is turning out to be quite the pain. So if I can simplify, I will. LogMeIn or TeamViewer will do the trick just fine.
Port forwarding is a once and done thing for your parent's router. It allows you to get to their Macs from outside their home. It should have nothing to do with remote admin, or your router and NAS. Also once you can Screen Share your parent's Mac, you can then use that Mac to talk from the inside to their router. Although one must be very careful about making router config changes as one "Oops" and you could loose your remote access, and have to visit Mom and Dad to get physical access
By the way, I've been using VNC/Screen Sharing and AFP file sharing over ssh tunnels in conjunction with port forwarding on the destination router for years. I do this, even though it is more work, because it was available long before most of the above services were available, and because it has a lot more flexibility once you know how to use it. Oh yea, I'm also a Unix software developer and spend a lot of time using ssh anyway

  • Using Screen-Sharing for Commercial Purposes

Hi there, I'm a computer science tutor and I often tutor students remotely using a screen-sharing program. I have been looking to switch programs lately and learned of Skype's screen-sharing features. My question is: is it acceptable to use the Skype screen-sharing feature to tutor students remotely when I receive monetary compensation for the tutoring services (but not the use of the software)? I have looked at the Terms of Use and couldn't quite make out an answer from it.
    Thanks,

Hi again, anybody know the answer? Thanks!

  • Skype for Business client not responding after audio/video/screen sharing

    Hi Everyone,
I have a strange situation in my organisation. We have more than 200 clients and we are using Lync 2013. When Skype for Business (SFB) came out I tested it and found one problem - every time when I trying to make a audio or video call or what ever kind of
file sharing or screen sharing then SFB client will hang and have error "SFB not responding". I can click restart the client and close button. So it´s not possible to call or share anything with that. Specially bad is that is eferyone else is calling
to me it cause the same problem - client will die. So it´s very easy to kill my client :) At the beginning I thought that it´s my computer problem but then it turned out that allmost all clients have the same problem. Computers are different kind of Lenovo
    laptops.
What can cause the problem? I have installed and reinstalled the client. I have updated all the drivers. I have removed Personal Skype to make sure that it won´t cause the problem but problem is still there. Server itself is updated with latest CU and Skype
for Business UI is enabled as default UI.
    Br,
    Taavi

    Hi,
Please try to uninstall the default Sound Card, VGA Device/Video Card, Graphic Card, and use the default system driver to test the issue. Because sometimes update driver to the latest version doesn't work but only use the default system.
Please also make sure OS system update to the latest version.

  • Lync screen sharing doesn't work in Windows 10 Technical Preview (9879 Build)

Why Lync screen sharing doesn't work in Windows 10 Technical Preview?
It works well Windows 8.1, but why not in Windows 10?

    Hi PriTeddy,
    Thanks for your feedback.
As Paul Adare said, Microsoft has noticed such issue, they are listed in following blog:
    http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2014/11/12/new-build-available-to-the-windows-insider-program/
    Some known problems:
As with the last build, you’re getting hot-off-the-presses code which means there are a few issues. We’ll be publishing WU updates shortly to fix the first two, but the remainder will not be fixed for 9879.
•In some cases you may get a black screen when trying to log-in or unlock. The only option is to hold the power button to hard reboot.
•You will be unable to connect to Distributed File System network locations.
•Some systems may see disk growth of 20GB+ due to driver install duplication. On systems with low disk space this can block setup and cause a rollback to the previous build.
•Skype calls will disconnect and Music will stop playing if those apps are minimized.
•There are several known issues with screen sharing with Lync.
    Let’s wait for next builds.

  • Does any one have any luck getting screen sharing to work in Skype 2.x

Does any one have any luck getting screen sharing to work in Skype 2.x?

The current skype app works (makes calls) with iphone, ipod touch as well as the current ipad, per the description of the app. The ipad is obviously not going to be able to make video calls, but I know the iphone 4 can make video calls to a PC through skype. Works really well too. Im assuming that with the ipad 2 you should be able to make video calls as you can with iphone / ipod touch.

  • Screen Sharing and Talktalk UK

Apologies if this duplicates what others have said. I've spent a lot of time trawling through here but I'm wondering particularly if the problem I'm having might be related to talktalk, my dad's provider.
    1. I have an intel iMac running leopard. Comcast is my provider.
    2. I can screen share both ways with my father in law in Rochester NY. He's on Roadrunner and has a G5 tower running leopard.
    3. My Dad is in the UK with a split new macbook running leopard. He's on talktalk. I can share my screen with him but HE CANNOT SHARE WITH ME. When we attempt to do this, "screen sharing with <me>" comes up on Dad's screen, and we both get the audio connection, but at my end the small window with "connecting" just hangs on the screen. Wheel goes around endlessly, etc.
Because I can connect both ways with my father in law, I am assuming the problem is at Dad's end (although I'm not sure). Here's what I've done:
    1. Our quicktime streaming speed is set at both ends at 1.5 Mbps, although I've tried the default too.
    2. Bandwidth is 500k at both ends, although we've also tried none.
    3. Firewall -- We both added ichat as a specific app and this actually made things worse -- when I tried to screen share a "failure" message came up on screen, and we couldn't video chat either. We both then reset the firewall to Allow all and at least then we could video chat.
    4. UPnP is on at both ends.
The only thing I haven't tried at his end is the stuff I've read on here about Anonymous Pings, but it's really hard to do this when dad doesn't really know computers and when I don't know what the Huawei (this is his router) menu looks like.
Dad also has an Apple airport router which he as yet has not connected up. I'm wondering if he installs this between the Huawei and the ibook things might improve (I'm hoping against hope, really!).
Any suggestions, folks? Any ideas gratefully received.
    Thanks,
    Dr D

My guess is that your problem is not with your set-up but with TalkTalk. In my experience talking to my parents, who are also on TalkTalk, they tend to throttle their network for non-web traffic to the point where it's barely usable (if at all). For us, iChat usually exits the connection attempt with an "insufficient bandwidth" error message.
We have had more luck with Skype, but obviously that does not help with your screen-sharing question. Other than trying to change ISP, all I can think of is to try "calling" at less busy times.
    Cheers,
    --> Stephen

  • Screen Sharing Not Working

I have screen sharing turned on and it works fine when I'm in the house in front of the computer on the same network, but when I'm at the office trying to share the screen it is not working. I'm I doing anything wrong?
I have the Macbook Pro hooked up to my TV (main monitor). I have the computer screen on "never sleep" (computer screen is damaged from motorcycle accident-can't damage any more) and the keyboard lights turns off after 5 seconds of none use.

I'm leaving my personal MacBook pro at the house and using my office MacBook Pro trying to share the screen. I'm using the assigned vnc://ipaddress to login. What I mean by not working is that I get a message stating that my computer cannot be found. I drive home from the office (I don't do anything to the house computer) and sit in my yard and screen sharing works.
Most likely when you are in your yard, you are connecting to your home WiFi network and this by definition is the same as being in the living room.
If I need to configure my home router to port forwarding I'm not sure I know what to do and how to do it.
Depends on the make and model of router. A Google search for "Port Forward yourroutermake yourroutermodel" will most likely find instructions.
I'm talking my Mom, who lives in Louisiana, into buying a Mac and I told her I could help in Arkansas by screen sharing. So, is Port Forwarding a default feature on most routers?
Yes, most routers allow Port Forwarding, however, for your Mom there are other options.
    a) Get 2 Free AOL Instant Messaging (AIM) accounts. Give one to your Mom. Now use iChat and in Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) there is an iChat option where you can ask your Mother to share her screen or she can click a button to export her screen to you.
    b) If your mother is not going to be around when you work on her Mac, you could install an iChat add-on called Chax which has an option to always accept requests for screen sharing. Your Mother would have to be very careful about who she allows in your iChat "Buddy List". This is also an option for your work vs home situation.
    c) Skype has a Mac OS X beta version that includes Screen sharing. You could use this for your Mom. No home router issues.
    d) You can subscribe to Apple's MobileMe service and use the Back-to-My-Mac feature. You must make both your systems and your Mom's Mac part of your account. Is not suppose to have home router issues, but Back-to-My-Mac works best with Airport Extreme or Express routers.
    e) You can use LogMeIn.com for screen sharing. No home router issues. However, LogMeIn.com is not as fast. However, it is fairly reliable and easy to get setup.
    f) You can Port Forward the screen sharing ports in your and your Mom's home router.
I would like to have control of the mac at home and my Mom's new mac. How screen sharing works when I am at the house is exactly what I need. I see the other MacBook Pro in a window on my MacBook Pro computer and I have full control of the Mac.
You can get full control, you just need to deal with your home router.
Also note: Depending on how your Work network is setup, you may nave to deal with corporate firewalls that may not be happy passing your screen sharing requests.
So do you have a corporate firewall? Do you have to configure a Proxy server in System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> Proxy? If you do, then you may have additional hurdles connecting from work to home.
However, going from your home to your Mom's Mac only needs to deal with Port Forwarding on your Mom's home router.

  • Use FaceTime to record a video with screen sharing?

I need to record a presentation, going back and forth between me talking and demonstrating my company's new iPhone app. The app runs in the Xcode iOS simulator on my MacBook, and my MacBook has a FaceTime camera (720p!). Is there a way to use FaceTime to record a video? Skype has screen sharing. You can just click a button and the caller sees what's on your computer screen. Then you click again to return to the caller seeing you talking. Does FaceTime have a screen sharing feature? Is there another app I should be using?

I just did a little Googling and found eCamm:
    http://www.ecamm.com/mac/callrecorder/
It looks like it'll record a Skype call, and Skype has screen sharing. I'll download the demo version and try it out.

  • Slow cursor during screen sharing

    Hello,
Running Mavericks on both my 2009 MBP and 2012 2.5 it Mac Mini- I am noticing that the cursor is sluggish- up to the point where I can swirl it around on my trackpad from my MBP- and the controlled Mac Mini lags behind up to 20 seconds.  I have not seen this prior to Mavericks so I am guessing it is a bug (even running a fan control app to see if cooling the Mac Mini which is mounted in a gator rack case but with ample circulation is causing the issues).
I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this.  I am running an external Thunderboth to VGA display (and have even tried connecting via HDMI).  Normally I use the hdmi headless dongle for live music use and don't notice the issue (but am not using the trackpad much as I have MainStage controlled via my controller).
    Any other suggestions

Only the screen content is being shared during screen sharing. Audio sharing is currently not part of the functionality.
What's a use case you can see for transferring audio as well?

  • How do I switch remote desktops with lion server screen sharing?

When I sometimes use the Lion Server screen sharing feature to take over my iMac using my Macbook, I find that I'm not able to switch desktops on the remote computer, i.e. using the three finger swipe.
Both are running the latest versions of Lion Server.
Now there MUST be some way to do that right?
    Who knows?

Hi John, perhaps I did not express myself clearly.
My desktop iMac is set up with multiple desktops (desktop 1 for system stuff, desktop 2 for mail, messages, skype etc, desktop 3 for Safari and desktop 4 for text proessing, VM-Ware and other work).
When I work on that machine I'm logged in as one user and use the three finger swipe left and right or the Cmd-1 thru Cmd-4 keys to switch between those desktops.
I haven't founf how to do that from my a remotely connected MacBook Pro.
Both of which are running Mountain Lion in the mean time. The iMac runs Mountain Lion Server and the MBP has ML Server installed as well, but nut implemented. Just to be able to use the remote screen...
Hope this makes my question a bit mre clear...
