Lync virtual deployment

Dear expert,
We need your help on Lync deployment. I've already design NEW virtual environment for Microsoft Lync 2013.
Problem is our customer change the plan. They wanted to deploy the Lync 2013 on their
EXISTING virtual Environment which is Hyper-V.
Question : -
Can we deploy virtual Lync server 2013 on their existing virtual environment which already have other Virtual Machine?.
Thanks.

Yes. Providing that the host hardware has sufficient performance/specification to run Lync 2013 along with it's current workloads, this is totally fine (and is how nearly all deployments I have done are run.)
Use the Lync Capacity Planning Tool http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36828 to determine your requirements. I usually allow 7-10% extra for VM overhead.

  • Lync Hybrid Deployment and Dial-in Conferencing

I know this question could fall under community.office365.com forum, but didn't get any response there...
I'm looking at a possible Lync Hybrid deployment. All users will be hosted in the cloud, but we're looking at hybrid on-prem Lync deployment so we can connect a trunk from our IP PBX and use the on-prem server for Lync dial-in conferencing. We have a separate
phone system and users will use those phones to simply dial in to the Lync dial-in conference bridge for audio conferencing meetings.
Is this even possible with Hybrid deployment?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Skype for Business not updating icons on start menu - Using OCT for Lync 2013 deployment

We're currently deploying Lync 2013 to out fleet using the OCT to customize where the shortcuts are created.
What we are finding is that the Skype for Business Patch does not update these icons.  It only updates the icons if they are in the default location (no OCT).
Is there a standalone Installer for Skype for Business we could apply a TRANSFORM to? Or some other method of updating all icons startmenu, taskbar etc.
    Thanks

    Hi Alan Dooley,
Have you tried to create a new desktop shortcut ?
In addition, you can try to follow the FAQ below to rebuild the icon cache.

  • Lync 2013 deployment via SCCM 2007

    Hi All,
We are trying to deploy Lync 2013 to Windows 7 workstations that currently have Office 2013 professional installed on.
Unfortunately we arent have much luck at the moment..
It seems to push Office 2013 tools out but not Lync itself..
The package was created using the Office customisation tool
the sccm command is set to setup.exe /adminfile updates \name.msp and also tried msiexec command line but no joy
Please can someone advise me how to achieve this Lync rollout?
    Kind Regards, Enjoy the weekend!

Are you using Office2013Professional (the Retail edition), or are you using Office2013ProfessionalPlus (the Volume Licensing edition)?
Or are you using Office365ProPlus (the Subscription edition of 2013, which comes in a Click-to-Run format)?
The steps may vary for you, depending upon the above.
Also, which Lync are you using for the install? (there are various ways to deploy Lync, depending upon what you have)
e.g. if you have previously deployed Office2013ProfessionalPlus, and at that time, you customised the installation such that Lync would not be enabled, and now, you wish to enable Lync, you would use the tip from Daniel, via something like this:
    setup.exe /modify ProPlus /config AddLyncConfig.xml
[the AddLyncConfig.xml would be a file you create, containing the content like Daniel has suggested]
    refer: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc178956.aspx
These steps are valid for Office2013ProfessionalPlus, but aren't valid for Office2013Professional nor for Office365ProPlus.
Ultimately, it depends whether your are "adding a new product" or  are "modifying an existing product".
ConfigMgr is merely automating your instructions, it doesn't "know" if what you are telling it is "valid".
Have you tried to install/enable Lync using manual steps first as a test?

  • Understanding Lync 2013 Deployment for Single forest multiple domain Infrastructure

    Hello Everyone,
I have an issue in understanding a deployment scenario of Lync 2013 Enterprise edition.
We have a single forest multiple domain infra.
My My question here is, while AD prep, do we need to run Domainprep on every domain in the forest.
    Thanks!
    Thank You!!! BR, Ammi.

    Hi Ammi,
To prepare Active Directory Domain Services for your Lync Server 2013 deployment, you must perform three steps in a specific sequence.
    1.
Preparing the Active Directory schema in Lync Server 2013
Extends the Active Directory schema by adding new classes and attributes that are used by Lync Server.
Run once for each forest in your deployment where Lync Server will be deployed.
    2. Preparing the forest for Lync Server 2013
Creates global settings and universal groups that are used by Lync Server.
Run once for each forest in your deployment where Lync Server will be deployed.
    3. Preparing domains for Lync Server 2013
Adds permissions on objects to be used by members of universal groups.
Run once per user domain or server domain.
    Hope it can be helpful.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Lync 2013 Deployment Requirements - One Server?

I have an organization that has an offsite Exchange Server 2010, and Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain Controller (for the Exchange Server).
I am trying to figure out what we need for hardware and Windows Server software to implement Lync 2013.  I understand that Lync 2013 cannot be put on the same server as the Exchange Server.  Can Lync 2013 be put on one Windows server?
    Michael

Depends. Without knowing a lot about your environment (i.e users, HA requirements) ideally you'd have two. One as a Lync Standard Edition server (which can support up to 5000 users for Front End Services and Back-End database - but won't have HA) and one
as an Lync Edge server (for outside connectivity - also won't have HA)
Standard Edition will use SQL express as its database and automatically install it on the single server.
As for operating system Windows 2008 R2 or above.
As for hardware you can use this as a guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398835.aspx and use the Lync Capacity planning tool http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36828
How many users do you have? (for example the first link has 32GB as recommended memory for a Front End, but if you don't have many users you can use less than that - and the Cap Planner will reflect that)

  • New Lync 2010 Deployment With OWA 2010 Integration Not Working

I just installed Lync 2010 and it works fine with the Lync 2010 client.
Our Exchange Server is Exchange 2010 SP3 and I can't get the OWA integration to work.
I found various blogs with instructions, but they are all so old that I'm not sure all the prerequisite software hotfixes downloads they are pointing to install are still valid for Exchange 2010 SP3 and the Lync 2010 with all the latest updates.
For a little while I got it partially working in OWA where some of the Lync integration was showing, but it was grayed out and the contacts lists would never load.  Now that I have tried several solutions, it no longer even partially works.
I think I need to clear all the integration settings from both Exchange and Lync, so I can start over with valid instructions.
What are the current instructions and current download files needed with the most up to date versions of Lync 2010 and Exchange 2010?
I also need to make sure that the syntax of the all the server and certificate names the various commands and wizards ask for are exactly correct.  Some of it is confusing on whether it is the actual DNS name, Exchange certificate SAN name or something
    else.

  • App-V 5.0: Adding Visio 2013 and Project 2013 to a previously deployed virtual Office 2013

    Good morning.
I can successfully deploy Office 2013 via PowerShell and App-V v5.0 without difficulty.  I've read the document at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2915745/en-us and followed all instructions successfully.
My question is this:  If Office 2013 without Visio 2013 or Project 2013 is virtually deployed, how can those components be added later?
For instance, we may have 100 users that acquire a virtualized Office 2013 without Project or Visio.  We then may have 25 users that require a virtualized Office and Visio without Project and, perhaps, another 15 that require Office and Project without
    Visio.
Currently, when I attempt a second virtual deployment of one of these components, it removes Office 2013 making it inaccessible.
How can Project and/or Visio be deployed to an already existing virtually deployed Office 2013?
    Thanks very much.
    John

As a part of MDOP, you'll also have access to UE-V which will provide a mechanism of moving user preferences across the same applications from difference packages.
It will require planning, configuration and deployment, but will ensure you don't face the same issue in the future.

  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2010\Deployment\ directory missing.

    Hi Guys,
We were trying to “Install the Mobility Service and autodiscover Service” on lync 2010 frontend server, for which we have downloaded the “McxStandAlone.msi” and placed in
    “C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Lync Server\Deployment\cache\4.0.7577.0\setup” location.
As per the document, to execute this we have to run the bootstrapper.exe from the lync powershell at the following location
    “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2010\Deployment\Bootstrapper.exe”
But “Deployment folder and bootstrapper exe” are not present in mentioned location.
So is there any workaround for this ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ankit

Did you happen to install Lync on another drive? Maybe D:?
Also try to run the Lync Deployment Tool and click "Install or Update Lync Server System" and rerun "Setup or Remove Lync Server Components". This should do the same thing as running the bootstrapper.

  • Lync Deployment at DR with CAC

    Hi Experts,
Can some one please clarify below concerns, we are deploying Lync at Primary and DR site, where one Lync with standard edition is already deployed at Primary site but we are deploying Lync with high availability at Primary site and will expand to DR Site
as well. we have around 30 branches with limited bandwidth and we do not want to deploy SBA, SBS or full lync at any site except Datacenter due to company policies, at 5 sites we have Cisco CUCM deployed including DR and datacenter and we want to integrate
those CUCM servers with Lync which is deployed at datacenter,
Required Public IP Addresses in Primary and DR Site
We  are proposing Director Roles then will there be any requirement to propose additional IP Address to publish Lync web services or from same Public IP we will be able to publish Lync Front end and directory web services.
What features users will get if pool is failed over to DR Site and during resilience period until or unless users are moved to DR Site pool
Pools are failed over to DR site automatically but users’ needs to be moved to DR site Pool am I correct
Should we deploy two Central Sites one at primary site and one at DR Site or should we deploy one central site and create two pools one in Primary and one in DR Site
We already have Lync Server deployed with standard edition and there are no other servers, what would be your recommendation in order to deploy Lync server, should we deploy a new pool in the same Lync site or should we
create a separate new Lync Site and move users from old site to new site pool
Once users are moved to DR Site pool then will users get all features or still there are some features users will not get
What if we do not have resilient WAN link to DR Site the solution will work or not.
Is there any minimum or maximum bandwidth requirement for primary and DR site connection, currently we have 512MB MPLS link with 95% utilized.
Can we enable CAC if we have deployed only one Lync Central Site so that we can control the bandwidth from different branches where no Lync Servers or SBA or SBS are deployed
If question number 10 answer is yes then can we enable all users for Lync with all features from all branches and whenever the bandwidth will not allow the CAC will control it or should we enable users based on bandwidth requirements.
If WAN connection goes down between Primary and DR Site then will there be any split brain comes in to the picture and what will be the behavior.
Should we needs to publish Edge Servers in primary and DR site both at the same time.
If question number 9 answer is yes then do we need to have same FQDN names or we have to use different FQDN Names for A/V, conferencing, access edge and web urls.
What about SRV records will there be any priority in SRV records for external and internal domain pointing to both primary and DR site or should we deploy only one SRV record pointing to Primary site and once primary site is
down we will need to change SRV record to point to DR Site.
Will we require any HLB to load balance between Primary and DR Site like it was in Lync 2010 or it is not supported.
Will we require HLB in local site only or there will be a requirement for HLB to load balance DR and Primary Site.
If we will propose SQL Cluster in both primary and DR Site then will it be fine or SQL Mirroring is necessary in this scenario.
Please do not paste any TechNet articles or any blogs I require answer line by line.

  • OCS to Lync 2013, move all users over before client deployed?

Hello, quick question hoping someone can answer...
We've deployed Lync 2013 and are migrating about 2000 users from OCS across many branch offices, going branch-by-branch.
Is there any downside to moving ALL 2000 users over to the Lync pool before they have the Lync client deployed to their site? They would still be using Communicator until their site receives the Lync install. I know Communicator works when connecting to
the Lync pool so I'm guessing this should be OK.
The problem we're seeing during this transition phase is when an employee travels to a site that's had Lync client deployed but the employee is still on the Communicator pool because their primary site hasn't been upgraded yet, and are thus unable to sign-in
    to Lync.

    I would agree with Anthony,
The basic features works with the Communicator clients but when it comes to conferencing users will face a lot of problems, also  a problem as been identified during such scenario is when users homed on the lync pool and signing in using the OC client
experience a weird behavior when their contact lists disappear, then it appears again when logging using a lync client.
    as a resume.
If you are obliged to use the OC client please make sure that it is patched with the latest updated released.
as a best practice move to Lync client as soon as possible.

  • Lync deployment error

    Hi All,
I'm installing for the first time Lync 2010 Standard Server.
    Now I'm getting the error:
    Checking prerequisite SqlExpressRtc...installing...failure code -2068578304
    Prerequisite installation failed: SqlExpressRtc
I'm installing Lync on Windows Server 2008 SP2 (O.S. in italian localization).
Anyone could point me in the right direction?
    Thx

I am receiving this same exact error and none of the fixes in the replies have helped. I am running the following:
Server 2008 R2 x64 (fully updated), server is a DC
SQL Express 2008 w/SP1 (already running on machine)
Exchange 2010 (CAS, Hub Transport, Mailbox roles)
    Sharepoint 2010
I'm assuming that I'm having this issue because I had SQL Express already installed on the machine. When I run the fixes in the replies, it will run through but the Lync installer will still fail with the same error message. I can't uninstall SQL Express
because I don't want to lose the configuration database for Sharepoint as it is currently in a semi-production state. I am not able to continue with the installation since topology publishing fails due to the SQLExpressRtc error.

  • EWS not deployed anymore to Lync 2013 Desktop Clients, Mobile Clients still working fine

    Hello dear community,
the subject of EWS in conjunction with Lync 2013 has been discussed a lot here .
However, I could not find here any solution for my problem and I'm (almost) at my end.
Following scenario - 1 x Lync 2013 BE server, 1 x Lync 2013 Edge server, 1 x reverse proxy (IIS ARR). This Lync 2013 deployment
was installed about two months ago and integrated into existing IT landscape. Everything worked wonderfully - desktop and mobile clients were able to connect from inside and outside our organization, EMS was deployed to both desktop and mobile clients.
After that there are no any configuration changes made on Lync server, and yesterday, shortly before an important presentation
I've found, that EWS is not deployed anymore on all desktop clients. Mobile clients, however, continue to function smoothly.
I have tried the following: restart Lync and reverse proxy servers - without success, Lync Connectivity Analyzer shows all
green (internal and external), all relevant tests with Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer were passed, also analysis using Wireshark brought nothing.
I must to say that a week ago I installed SP3 for Exchange 2010 - can it may be because? Also appears more
times a day the following error message in Event Viewer on the back-end server (language of operation system is German):

    Hi MiF,
The issue may cause by the Network Service account that the Lync Storage Service uses does not have access to the private key in used by the oAuth certificate. Please do with the following steps:
Open MMC and add the “Certificates” Snap-in (Local Computer)
Open Personal | Certificates and find the the Certificate being used for OAuth (use the Lync “Get-CsCertificate -Type OAuthTokenIssuer” cmdlet to find the serial number of the OAuth certificate).
Right-click | “All Tasks” | “Manage Private Keys”
Add Permissions for “Network Service” account (the defaults Full control and Read).
Please also check registry key on client computer.
If the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ Office\15.0\Lync \[User SMTP Address]\Autodiscovery registry key does not exist on the user’s workstation, then it likely means that one of the following failures
    have occurred:
Lync was unable to locate a valid DNS A record or SRV record for the Autodiscover site
Certificate assigned to Autodiscover site is not trusted by the Lync workstation

  • Error while Deploying Monitoring Server Reports!

    Hi,
Trying to install the monitoring role with reporting services but must have missed one or several steps! :)
Have 1 standard edition server and 1 server running Lync monitoring and SQL (that I installed myself, hopefully correct)
Have installed SQL with instance LYNCSQL\LYNSQL (also checked the reporting services feature)
Have intalled the Standard Edition server
    Have installed the Monitoring role
Now I want to "Deploy Monitoring Server Reports" from the Lync Server Deployment Wizard.
Specifying Monitoringserver with FQDN (the same server as the acctual SQL server)
    Specifying LYNCSQL\LYNCSQL as the Instance\InstanceID
Specifying the systemaccount that I added during the SQL server installation
    Don't specifying any usergroup
    Receiving the following error:
Could not get objects from namespace root\Microsoft\SqlServer\ReportServer. The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)Cannot get the ReportServerWebService
URL. Verify that Reporting Services is deployed and configured properly on the target SQL instance:"LYNCSQL\LYNCSQL", and that WMI is included on the exception list of firewall setting on the server that is running Reporting Services.Invalid parameter
    Windows Firewall is Off!
    SQL Server 2008 x64 SP2
When looking in the Lync Server Console I see green status of Standard Edition and the Monitoring Server, but from my LYNCSQL\LYNCSQL i have status of N/A.
    Where to start? :)
    Update:
Logged on to the Reporting services configuration manager and here are the settings:
Use Built in Account: Local System -> correct or should it be sys.lyncsql as I mentioned before?
    Virtual Directory: ReportServer_LYNCSQL
    URL:  http://servername:80/ReportServer_LYNCSQL
    SSL: Not Selected

    Hi,
Firstly, you need make sure Web Service URL and Report Manager URL could be opened in both Lync FE and SQL server.
If prompt authentication chanllenges you have to change the built in account with "Network Service".
Furthermore, make sure firewall is turned off when troubleshooting to rule out ports and connection issue.
    Update let us know.

    Hi Ben,
I have a similar problem where I cant deploy reports. Also, I´m prompted when trying to access /Reports and /ReportsServer using IE on reporting services server.
What do you mean with change the built in account with "Network Service ?
