M-Audio Fast Track and Garage Band

Grettings, friends.
Does M-Audio Fast Track work well with Garage Band? I understand there may be a spread of opinions on this, but any feedback would be appreciated, particualry from those who have experience with both.
And for those who have had problems with Fast Track, can you recommend anything better in roughly the same price range?
Thanks in advance,
DPL

Hi David,
The Fastrack works fine.
More money buys better converters, preamps, etc.
There's a certain class of "competent" interfaces around the same price as the Fastrack that all offer good bang for the buck, OK audio and "work well."
Popular USB interfaces:

I've had decent results with M-Audio. Not in the same league as higher end stuff from RME or Apogee, but I use both, depending on the circumstances.

I Wanted to use avid m-audio fast track and avid m-audio fast track solo together so that I can get 4 inputs
i I tried to select it, but could enable any one only. How can I use them together??

You can use only one device at a time I Logic. However, in the Audio MIDI Setup utility (Applications>Utilities) you can create an aggregate device, which effectively combines multiple devices into one "virtual" device, which you can then choose in Logics' coreaudio device setup.
How to combine multiple audio interfaces by creating an aggregate device

  • M Audio Fast Track and Vista

How do I record with M Audio Fast Track and Adobe Audition 3 trial on Vista? I have the mic connect but the recording is really low and has alot of air noise...

At first thanks a lot for your answer and sorry for the first line of my post (buyed instead of bought)
When I say that sound is clipping it's beacause of my beat in garageband that is too strong, but with the headphone out i don't hear clips, i just see them in the track while with the fast track i hear them ...
I'm now reassured if you can tell me that the software installation in the CD doesn't touch my OSX drivers even if M-audio name this "Drivers install" on their site.
So, if i understand it's just the sys-pref button to switch 16-24 bits that is added ? nothing else.
How can i see if other drivers have been installed ?

  • M-Audio Fast Track and Drivers used

    Hi !
I recently buyed a sound card USB M-Audio Fast Track (the last one) and plugged it in my macbook late 2009 running OSX Mountain Lion.
Everything seems to be ok (sound works fine, but i prefer sound from my embedded sound card from the macbook, it doesn't clip like the fast track that i find a bit sensible) but i've installed "drivers" that was on the CD with the package of the sound card.
So my question is: what is this F****** driver ? what is installed on my mac ?  i don't want ASIO or other driver , i just want my coreAudio and i can't see what was installed except a button in system pref that allow me to select 13 or 24 bit.
Do you think installer has installed ASIO drivers on my mac ? or just the control pannel for the bit level ?
i should never put this CD in my mac ... can you help me ?

  • Can't multitrack with M-audio Fast Track and a Mac Mini

I can't consistently record the two Fast Track channels, vocal and an acoustic/electric, simultaneously. I'm always able to record the channels independently just fine and they both come through if I create a stereo track. Every so often, after a random process of GB re-starts, track record button re-selections, and cable re-insertion, I'm able to get both to record at the same time but it's not a repeatable process. I've already done a permission repair. Any help or recommendations is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jay,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
One of 2 things come to mind. I couldn't find any decent information but
    1. The Fast Track USB might only be able to record either guitar/line in or XLR one at a time. Not simultainiously. I don't know, can't really say as I don't have this box.
    2. And this would be my guess. You may need to download the latest driver from M-Audio.
It's been my experience (I had a MobilePre USB at one time) that an updated driver from M-Audio may not solve your problem. They aren't the best at supplying functioning drivers.

  • M-audio fast track and cs6

What is proplem? singnal do not find. Drivers? or Preferences?

Make sure that you have installed the M-Audio USB ASIO driver - I think it comes on a CD with the unit - if not download it from their website
Once that is done go to Audition menu and select Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware and then select the M-Audio USB ASIO driver from the drop down device list
Then it should just be a matter of creating a MultiTrack session (for example) and arming a track and selecting the appropriate input (the one you have the mic plugged into) from the M-Audio unit and then press record

  • Can I create chapters in an audio track in Garage Band?

Can I create chapters in an audio track in Garage Band? I want to be able to find sections quickly. Or is there another more podcast oriented application that will do this?
    Thanks!

    Hello Jack,
You can add chapter markers to a podcast track or a movie track, not to an audio track.
Dragging any still image to the time line in GarageBand will create a podcast track: This image will be used as icon/artwork for your poadcast: See
GarageBand '11: Add and edit marker regions

  • I updated to OS X Mavericks and now trying to run Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro mid-2009, using an M-Audio Axiom 49 and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro... Logic keeps telling me that Mac OS X MIDI Services are not available... How do I solve this problem?

I updated to OS X Mavericks and now trying to run Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro mid-2009, using an M-Audio Axiom 49 and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro... Logic keeps telling me that Mac OS X MIDI Services are not available... How do I solve this problem?

I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As".  So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail.  I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Here's what I know:
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
    The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update.  None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them.  This is maddening!  What can be done?  Apple?? Anyone???

  • M-Audio Fast Track USB and Logic Pro X

I wanted to share this tip in case anyone else has the same issue I had.
I attempted to use the Fast Track USB audio interface with Logic Pro X. It had worked in every version of Garageband since version 3, as well as older versions of Logic Express and Logic Pro, so I assumed it would work out of the box with Logic Pro X.
With it plugged in correctly, and my guitar connected to it, I added a new audio track to my project - ensuring the Fast Track was set as the input device, and input 2 was selected (input 1 is the XLR input on the device) - and enabled playback monitoring. There was no sound. Additionally, the button to enable recording was not present for the track. The same was true for every new track I added that used the Fast Track as the input device.
I tried everything: in Logic Pro X > Preferences > Audio > Devices, I toggled between the built-in input and the Fast Track; I restarted the software; I unplugged and plugged in the Fast Track, and I restarted the system. None of these worked. Then I had an idea.
In the Applications > Utilities folder on my Mac, I opened the Audio MIDI Setup app. This opened the Audio Devices window. I clicked on the plus at the bottom left and chose to Create Aggregate Device. I named this device by double-clicking the name on the left, then on the right I checked Built-in Input and Fast Track, taking note of which inputs belonged to the Fast Track in this new device (for me, inputs 3 and 4).
After restarting Logic Pro X, I chose this new aggregate device as my input device, chose input 4 for recording, and suddenly everything worked correctly.

I contacted Logic Pro X support and they said that they are working on an update.  They were very helpful, so no worries guys.  They know that there is an issue and they are working on it A.S.A.P.  They told me if I needed to continue production to use time machine and go back before the update and restore Logic Pro X (before 10.0.5).
They understand, so give them a break...    They are working as fast and hard as they can.  I talked with one of the programmers directily.   They are probably not getting any sleep over this.

  • Maverick not compatible with M-AUDIO PROFIRE 2626 and M-AUDIO Fast Track?

M-AUDIO software for my PROFIRE 2626 and my M-AUDIO FAST TRACK audio interface devices do not work with Maverick???? ANY FIXES COMING? APPLE AWARE!!??
These devices have been bought by the company AVID from M-AUDIO and they have no software updates for Maverick on the 2626 and a software update for MAVERICK that causes play back problems on INTEL 2 DUO imacs such as my 2010.
    As documented on their site:
    http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/troubleshooting/No-audio-from-USB-Interface-w ith-Mac-OS-X-Mavericks
And on several forums and community boards regarding the problem:
    http://community.m-audio.com/m-audio/topics/driver_upgrade_for_profire_2626_usin g_mac_os_x_mavericks
Apple should be aware that these vendors
M-AUDIO and AVID are labeling and claiming compatibility with MAC OS and Apple computers and then leaving them useless with no software driver upgrades or faulty ones. This problem is causing many many music makers and Apple users unrepairable problems and financial loss.
At this point I am prepared to sell my Apple computers, and their falsely advertised compatible devices and go to Windows.  This is a travesty and completely not acceptable. If I would have known of these issues with Maverick and M-AUDIO/AVID products and updates, and with Apples LOGIC 9.0 I  would have never upgraded to Maverick and saved my devices and software.
I think is a shame that Apple does not work with these companies to insure that users of a 5 year old machine and 3 year old devices, receive adequate support through updated drivers and compatibility to MAC OS compatible products.
MAVERICK OS X has caused my music, which is my life blood, on my imac to come to a halt until I can either sell my computer and my interfaces or pay for new ones and a new LOGIX X. Unreal and not in the spirit of Apple products of the past.
M-Audio, AVID, and Apple should be ashamed of this situation and they should take care of the people who helped Steve Jobs  build the company: Artists and Musicians mainly. This complete "buggy" travesty with Maverick is way more serious then I feel Apple is taking it.
I will do my best here in New York City to tell every musician and artist I know of the lack of care Apple and these two other supposedly friendly musician companies are showing in regard to their operating system upgrades and products. It is beyond a nightmare.
    ANY SOLUTION????

Apple has nothing to do with it.  Apple has no access to M-Audio's computers or the code for M-Audio's drivers.  M-Audio let their customers down and stopped supporting their devices.

  • Stereo problem using m audio fast track

I have an m audio fast track that I use in garage band all the time. I'm having trouble right now because by default it sets each input to left the left or right in the mix. In garage band I can set this to mono and then I have control over panning and such. In imovie I can't figure out how to make it so my mic isn't just in my left ear. Has anyone else tried using this? Any help would be great.

Did you ever get this to work? I just today bought a Fast Track Pro. I have it hooked to my MBP via USB. I can see in control Panel two inputs:
M-Audio Fast Track Pro UDB: Line Input
M-Audio Fast Track Pro UDB: S/PDIF
Problem is, there is no sound registering on the Input Level on either choose.
I have the Power On and have tried both Input 1 & 2, bith in stereo and mono mode.
(Just to be clear, I connect the electric guitar directly to the Fast track pro, correct?)
I have read the owners manual but it is worthless. I thought this would be easy to set up.
Also note that GarageBand preferences the Audio Output and Input are selected to Fast Track Pro.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • Recording with M-Audio Fast Track  USB Audio Interface

New Mac owner and am completely lost. I am wanting to record guitar and vocal tracks into GB and when I plugged in the M-Audio I could see a wave file when after I hit the record button but I couldn't hear anything. I selected it as the default for input and output and turned the monitor on...but am getting zero sound. HELP!

I actually just picked one up and this is what the process is...
I must reiterate the first line... Do not install any of the packaged software as it does not help, or do anything beneficial... just use Garageband.
This is to record a plug in guitar.
IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO LOAD ANY DISCS THAT COME WITH THE DEVICE
    1. Connect M-Audio Fast Track USB to appropriate USB port on computer.
ex. MacBook Pro - use forward port (port furthest away from display)
Also, see note 2 for M-Audio knowledge base, support etc...
    2. Open System Preferences and:
-Select M-Audio Fast Track USB icon
-Select "About" button and note Audio Firmware version
-Select "Updates" to open M-Audio web site
-Select: USB Audio Series<Fast Track USB< MAC OS 10.5.7 (or appropriate operating system)
-Note version number of latest drive and download if
    necessary to update your M-Audio
    - Select "Sound" in Hardware row of System Preferences
-Select "Input" button and select M-Audio Fast Track USB
    - No need to change "Output" regardless of how you want to listen to playback!
    3. Connect guitar to M-Audio box (a pre-amp will boost output, but is not necessary)
    - Make sure button on rear of M-Audio box is selected properly for guitar
    4. Open Garage Band (Do Not open Garage Band prior to connecting M-Audio)
    - Select New Project - Electric Guitar
    5. Open Garage Band Preferences
    - Select "Audio/MIDI" button
    -Audio Output select:
    - "Built-in Output" to use computer's speaker or headphones/speakers connected directly to computer OR
    - "M-Audio Fast Track USB" to listen to headphones/speakers
connected directly to M-Audio box (use Mix knob and Output knob on front of M-Audio box to control ouput if choosing this set-up)
    -Audio Input select:
    -"M-Audio Fast track USB"
    6. Choose an Amp model in Garage Band
    - Double-click picture of amp (this displays rear picture of amp and access to settings)
-Select: Input Source : Mono2(M-Audio Fast Track USB) NOT MONO 1!
of if using Mic and guitar : Stereo2 (M-Audio Fast Track USB)
    7. Record
This saved me from throwing the thing out the window... It works well now!

  • My M-Audio Fast Track stops working when switching instruments/tasks in Garageband.

I bought an M-Audio Fast Track along with a few imacs for my students to use in my classroom. I have it installed and it works sometimes.  I seem to have to have a fresh restart of osx and garageband, then it picks up the guitar and its usable with all the effects and cool stuff in garageband.  If I switch something, like add another instrument guitar track, or switch to another task like browse for a bit then come back it stops working.  I cannot get it to work again without restarting osx.  It does not pickup the fast track if I restart garage band or replug in the usb.
I bought this through apple, so I figured it was supported and would work great for my stuents.  I have found support has changed for this device.
Any tips before I look into returning it?
    Sean

I think that definitely helped.  When I switch sound devices I can get both the midi and m-audio to record at the same time without rebooting.
If your familiar with the m-audio box I still cannot get sound out of the headphone jack part of the box.  Ive chosen that as the output in both audio settings in osx and the output in garageband.  I can hit the monitor button on the box and hear a clean guitar, but no output as far as garageband effects go.

  • Can't adjust recording level with M-Audio Fast Track Pro

I downloaded the appropriate driver for my M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface & everything looks fine... BUT I can't adjust the Recording level at all. I am not sure if this is an issue with the M-audio device, or garage band??? It is driving me crazy, since I just want to make some music and can't even hear what is being recorded. ???

Thanks, .... Yes to all of the above. I am wracking my brain & will call M-Audio tomorrow. Everything looks perfect on the interface & on garage band - but, even though the Fast track Pro shows up in my sound preferences & I can select it as the input & output source, etc., when I go to its window, even hooked up, it says no "device is not connected." Then it details that there are "no input controls" under sound in system preferences. I have two working usb cords & it does the same on either. I think this is the problem & have no idea how to fix it. I just want to plug it all in and record & have lost So much time . Hmmmmm???
