M-Audio Fast Track USB detection in GB 2?

Hi Gang,
My M-Audio Fast Track USB midi device worked just great in GB1. Now I'm trying to use it with GB 2 and having a bear of a time. GB will give me an alert when I plug or unplug it from a USB port, but in the preferences I still show no MIDI devices detected.
I've downloaded the most recent M-Audio driver and still no luck. Any suggestsion? BTW: here are the specs . . .
GB 2.0 (v28)
OS X 4.3
M-Audio Fast Track guitar-mic device making a USB connection

I contacted Logic Pro X support and they said that they are working on an update.  They were very helpful, so no worries guys.  They know that there is an issue and they are working on it A.S.A.P.  They told me if I needed to continue production to use time machine and go back before the update and restore Logic Pro X (before 10.0.5).
They understand, so give them a break...    They are working as fast and hard as they can.  I talked with one of the programmers directily.   They are probably not getting any sleep over this.

  • Recording with M-Audio Fast Track  USB Audio Interface

New Mac owner and am completely lost. I am wanting to record guitar and vocal tracks into GB and when I plugged in the M-Audio I could see a wave file when after I hit the record button but I couldn't hear anything. I selected it as the default for input and output and turned the monitor on...but am getting zero sound. HELP!

I actually just picked one up and this is what the process is...
I must reiterate the first line... Do not install any of the packaged software as it does not help, or do anything beneficial... just use Garageband.
This is to record a plug in guitar.
IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO LOAD ANY DISCS THAT COME WITH THE DEVICE
    1. Connect M-Audio Fast Track USB to appropriate USB port on computer.
ex. MacBook Pro - use forward port (port furthest away from display)
Also, see note 2 for M-Audio knowledge base, support etc...
    2. Open System Preferences and:
-Select M-Audio Fast Track USB icon
-Select "About" button and note Audio Firmware version
-Select "Updates" to open M-Audio web site
-Select: USB Audio Series<Fast Track USB< MAC OS 10.5.7 (or appropriate operating system)
-Note version number of latest drive and download if
    necessary to update your M-Audio
    - Select "Sound" in Hardware row of System Preferences
-Select "Input" button and select M-Audio Fast Track USB
    - No need to change "Output" regardless of how you want to listen to playback!
    3. Connect guitar to M-Audio box (a pre-amp will boost output, but is not necessary)
    - Make sure button on rear of M-Audio box is selected properly for guitar
    4. Open Garage Band (Do Not open Garage Band prior to connecting M-Audio)
    - Select New Project - Electric Guitar
    5. Open Garage Band Preferences
    - Select "Audio/MIDI" button
    -Audio Output select:
    - "Built-in Output" to use computer's speaker or headphones/speakers connected directly to computer OR
    - "M-Audio Fast Track USB" to listen to headphones/speakers
connected directly to M-Audio box (use Mix knob and Output knob on front of M-Audio box to control ouput if choosing this set-up)
    -Audio Input select:
    -"M-Audio Fast track USB"
    6. Choose an Amp model in Garage Band
    - Double-click picture of amp (this displays rear picture of amp and access to settings)
-Select: Input Source : Mono2(M-Audio Fast Track USB) NOT MONO 1!
of if using Mic and guitar : Stereo2 (M-Audio Fast Track USB)
    7. Record
This saved me from throwing the thing out the window... It works well now!

  • Recording woes/m audio fast track usb+logic 9

I'm new to Logic (and recording in general) and I just hooked up an M-Audio Fast Track USB and a condener mic to my 13" MBP, and I'm getting a ton of hiss, low volume, and playback on only one side of my headphones. I've tried all sorts of combinations of input types (mono/stereo) and output types (mono/stereo 1-2) and still have the same problems. I think it's only on one side of my headphones because Mics record in mono if I'm not mistaken, and I have the same problem when I plug my guitar into the guitar input instead of using the mic. is there any way to split it or pan it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

and when I select stereo output it automatically switches to output 1-2. Is that normal? If not, is there a way around that?
    thank you!
Why would you want a way around it, there has to be two outputs for stereo, 1=left, 2=right.
Set the mono track's pan control to the middle position.
You're using headphones or speakers plugged into the M-Audio?
Make sure Preferences/Audio "Universal Track Mode" IS selected.
You know, the manual could help you clear up a lot of the basic operation problems you're having.
There's no way asking 1001 questions on here or any other board is going to clear all of this up. My suggestion is to start reading now, whether it be the manuals or books on DAW recording. You have to get an understanding of the basics or you will continuously butt your head against the wall. Once the basics are cleared up it's much easier to figure out problems. The manuals are 10 times better than when I learned the program and are a worthwhile read.

  • Does Logic Express work with M-Audio Fast Track USB

Hi all, just wondering if logic express 8 works with the m-audio Fast Track USB - http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrackUSB.html ?

This should probably go in the Logic Express 8 forum. Regardless, I see no reason why it wouldn't be perfectly functional using LE8. Is there a reason why you are opting for a USB device? Does your Mac not have a firewire port?

  • M-Audio Fast Track USB and Logic Pro X

I wanted to share this tip in case anyone else has the same issue I had.
I attempted to use the Fast Track USB audio interface with Logic Pro X. It had worked in every version of Garageband since version 3, as well as older versions of Logic Express and Logic Pro, so I assumed it would work out of the box with Logic Pro X.
With it plugged in correctly, and my guitar connected to it, I added a new audio track to my project - ensuring the Fast Track was set as the input device, and input 2 was selected (input 1 is the XLR input on the device) - and enabled playback monitoring. There was no sound. Additionally, the button to enable recording was not present for the track. The same was true for every new track I added that used the Fast Track as the input device.
I tried everything: in Logic Pro X > Preferences > Audio > Devices, I toggled between the built-in input and the Fast Track; I restarted the software; I unplugged and plugged in the Fast Track, and I restarted the system. None of these worked. Then I had an idea.
In the Applications > Utilities folder on my Mac, I opened the Audio MIDI Setup app. This opened the Audio Devices window. I clicked on the plus at the bottom left and chose to Create Aggregate Device. I named this device by double-clicking the name on the left, then on the right I checked Built-in Input and Fast Track, taking note of which inputs belonged to the Fast Track in this new device (for me, inputs 3 and 4).
After restarting Logic Pro X, I chose this new aggregate device as my input device, chose input 4 for recording, and suddenly everything worked correctly.

  • M-Audio Fast Track USB not working with Mountain Lion

now is working with teh 1.9.2 driver believe me work it!

  • Latency Settings of M-Audio Fast Track USB?

The Windows instructions for the Fast Track mentions buffer size settings that can be changed to find a balance between signal stability and low latency. Is there any way to adjust these settings in OS X 10.3? Currently the latency seems to be around 100ms which is useable but noticeable. It would be nice if it could go lower.
    Thanks,

    Michael,
The adjustment is made in the GarageBand preferences. In the "Audio/Midi" pane, set it to optimize for minimal delay.
    Hope that helps.

  • M-Audio Fast Track USB interface not compatible with Logic Pro X and Yosemite

    Hello All!
I've been trying to simply record some guitar and vocal tracks onto the latest version of Logic Pro X. It worked before I downloaded the update of Yosemite, however now, I can't find a solution to my problem. I've tried everything! Installed new drivers onto the M-Audio and even tried to search for a later update of Yosemite. I have read a few things online about how Yosemite doesn't accept 3rd party drivers. So any USB plugged in to the macbook/mac that isn't mac based it doesn't accept.
Please can someone help me solve his issue!
    Thankyou!
    Felix

I know many, many of us who are running things just fine.
I have to be really honest with you Ben and say... Where are you getting that idea from because it simply isn't so.....
I have a quite large client list of Logic users from all over the world... and of those that have attempted to use Logic Pro X and Yosemite together... over 80% have had to revert back to a previous configuration because of performance and/or stability related issues...
I personally, have on test here at the studios...  7 different Macs  ranging from 2010 Mac Mini i7 Servers to 2011 32GB 3.4Ghz iMacs.. to a maxed out 2013 i7 MBP to a top of the line 2014 Mac Pro and all have demonstrated issues regarding performance and stability with LPX and 10.10.x using a variety of different Audio/Midi interfaces, all of which have supposedly 10.10 compatible drivers... and all of which have no such issues running LPX under Mavericks...
Just a quick scan across the various forums.. indicates that very few people are successfully running LPX under Yosemite without performance problems.... so that's why I am asking where you are seeing 'many many people" because I am just not seeing that myself...
    Cheers..

  • Problems using M Audio Fast Track with Garageband

According to the blurb, the M Audio Fast Track (USB) 'is class compliant in Mac OSX offering true plug-and-play operation. Just plug in, and you're ready to start recording'. This is why I bought it, but I am experiencing no end of problems actually getting it to register with Garageband '08.
The problems are (a) I cannot hear any sound coming 'through' the Fast Track and Garageband (b) I can hear the guitar if I plug the headphones into the Fast Track, but nothing is recorded in Garageband (c) my mic, which is plugged into the line socket intended for guitars because I don't have the larger connection, reports no sound at all.
Any ideas, or tips to how others have managed to set up this 'plug-and-play' device would be greatly welcomed.

Did you ever get this to work? I just today bought a Fast Track Pro. I have it hooked to my MBP via USB. I can see in control Panel two inputs:
M-Audio Fast Track Pro UDB: Line Input
M-Audio Fast Track Pro UDB: S/PDIF
Problem is, there is no sound registering on the Input Level on either choose.
I have the Power On and have tried both Input 1 & 2, bith in stereo and mono mode.
(Just to be clear, I connect the electric guitar directly to the Fast track pro, correct?)
I have read the owners manual but it is worthless. I thought this would be easy to set up.
Also note that GarageBand preferences the Audio Output and Input are selected to Fast Track Pro.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • Please help- M-audio mic nova and fast track usb not working

    Hi All,
I just purchased a m-audio nova microphone and the fast track usb interface. I was hoping to use this to record overhead voice. However, it doesn't seem to work. I plugged in a regular microphone in both the mic and guitar input and it seemed to work. Am I missing something? I have set audio-in to fast track in both systems preference and garageband preference. The output remained built-in because my speakers are plugged into my desktop. I also tried output using the fasttrack and plugged my speakers into the fast track's interface and the my old microphone also worked ok. Is it my newly purchased m-audio nova microphone that is not working?
    Thanks.

Sorry about that, the regular mic is not the m-audio, it has an on/off switch. I am not familiar with audio gear terms, I apologize that. When I plug this mic in, it works in both the guitar input and the mic input on the usb interface (m-audio fast track). I can also plug this mic into a guitar amp. I hope that makes sense. Even when I plug it into my G5, it works, although I use an adaptor for the plug (same size as a headphone jack).

  • Help using Fast Track USB by M-Audio

My mic is 1/4" .. So I'm plugging it into the guitar line of my Fast Track USB .. and its SOOO quiet. Even if I turn everything volume knob up I can barely hear it (and also there's a lot of static)
Does anyone know how to fix the volume problem? Should I buy an XLR mic? Do you suggest any?
Does anyone know how to fix the static problem? All I'm getting is really quiet volume, but noisy with static..
I thought I bought a decent mic though .. Peavey PV Series for like $40-50. Do I need to invest in a better mic or are there other ways around the volume and static problems.
Is XLR the higher quality for recording with the Fast Track USB?
    Thanks!

you need an xlr connection, same reason as this:

  • No Audio when recording through M-Audio Fast Track Ultra USB interface

    Hi,
I am trying to record my drums using Logic Pro and by obtaining the audio through 4 microphones connected to an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra. Even though the interface is on, installed, registered, and configured in Logic's audio preferences, there is no sound whatsoever. The recording shows that it definitely picked up audio and that the sound levels were moving, but there is no playback. Any advice??
    Thanks.

Are you using Logic 8 or 9?
What are you trying to hear Logic's output through?
If you're expecting audio output through built-in audio, and you're using Logic 9, make sure your Fast Track is set as the input device, and built-in audio is set for the output device (both in Logic's audio preferences)
However, if you're using Logic 8 or 7, you need to create an aggregate device if you're using built-in output.
    Details here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8813763&#8813763
    OR
use the FastTrack's audio outputs to drive your monitoring, NOT your built-in audio.

  • M-Audio Fast Track and Drivers used

    Hi !
I recently buyed a sound card USB M-Audio Fast Track (the last one) and plugged it in my macbook late 2009 running OSX Mountain Lion.
Everything seems to be ok (sound works fine, but i prefer sound from my embedded sound card from the macbook, it doesn't clip like the fast track that i find a bit sensible) but i've installed "drivers" that was on the CD with the package of the sound card.
So my question is: what is this F****** driver ? what is installed on my mac ?  i don't want ASIO or other driver , i just want my coreAudio and i can't see what was installed except a button in system pref that allow me to select 13 or 24 bit.
Do you think installer has installed ASIO drivers on my mac ? or just the control pannel for the bit level ?
i should never put this CD in my mac ... can you help me ?

At first thanks a lot for your answer and sorry for the first line of my post (buyed instead of bought)
When I say that sound is clipping it's beacause of my beat in garageband that is too strong, but with the headphone out i don't hear clips, i just see them in the track while with the fast track i hear them ...
I'm now reassured if you can tell me that the software installation in the CD doesn't touch my OSX drivers even if M-audio name this "Drivers install" on their site.
So, if i understand it's just the sys-pref button to switch 16-24 bits that is added ? nothing else.
How can i see if other drivers have been installed ?

  • Stereo problem using m audio fast track

I have an m audio fast track that I use in garage band all the time. I'm having trouble right now because by default it sets each input to left the left or right in the mix. In garage band I can set this to mono and then I have control over panning and such. In imovie I can't figure out how to make it so my mic isn't just in my left ear. Has anyone else tried using this? Any help would be great.

  • Adobe Audition with M-Audio Fast Track Pro mic input

I must be missing a setting somewhere.  I have two mics going into the M-Audio Fast Track Pro (XLR inputs).  Mic 1 works fine but no input from Mic 2 although I have audio coming through my headsets when speaking into Mic 2 - it just doesn't register in Adobe Audition.  I have switched mics and cables and all are fine.  The issue is with Mic 2.
Again, Mic 1 is working fine and Mic 2 is picking up audio and feeding to my headphones but not to Adobe Audition.  I have all the latest drivers installed.
I am on a Win7 (32bit) system.  Microphones are Shure PG-42's (phantom powered condenser microphones).
I contacted M-Audio support and phone-verified that all Fast Track Pro settings were proper.  Seems to be a setting or driver issue in Audition.  I've spent hours trouble-shooting to no avail.  In the meantime, I'm using a Y-splitter running both mics into Mic Input 1 on the Fast Track Pro which works fine but I really need seperate control over each microphone.  I have interviews coming up soon and would like to find a resolution quickly.  Can anyone help?  Thanks!

Archie!  Good stuff!  I'm almost there...
I've got my Adobe Audition set up with the settings you gave me - everything is armed and good-to-go... but then...
When I hit record Tracks one and two look like they're recording but there is no level (no audio) going into the tracks.
If I go back to the Edit view and try to record the entire fills with green as if I'm filling it 100% with sound.  This has never happened before.
I suspect I've got something hosed-up in my "Audio Hardware Setup" under the Edit section.
My selections for Audio Driver Setup are:
    1)  M-Audio USB ASIO
    2)  ASIOforALLv2
    3)  Audition 3.0 Windows Sound
If you could give me some direction as to the settings in "Audio Harware Setup" I feel I've almost got it.
    Thanks!
